- Fuel tank removal for a 2004 through 2008 Ford F150 Crew Cab all Crew Cabs have to have the fuel tank removed because you cannot access the fuel pump by removing the bed and I would remove the tank on all extended cab or regular cab trucks instead of taking the bed off especially if you're working by yourself
My husband has a 2004 F150 and I showed him your video and he followed your instructions to the letter and he had the fuel tank out in a hour and 20 minutes thanks for the video very informative..
He say’s “fairly easy job…..” MUCK FE!!!! Damn I must be a buffoon! This has kicked my butt! With that being said your video was spot on with everything I needed to be prepared for. Great video!
I used this video for a 2008 F250 Super Duty 5.4 a couple of differences. I did not have to remove any of the drive line. The rear strap flexed enough to go past the driveline and the front strap was easy to unbolt from both sides. Because I used ratchet straps to let it down a few inches after I removed the steel straps I was able to push the tank to the side enough to get to the hose attachments on the top of the tank. Mine had yellow tab push release hoses on the front and rear of the tank, and the big hose on the sending unit was push tab but the blue tab fuel line needed the fuel line disconnector tool. Also, used a coal chisel and hammer to knock the keeper ring counter clockwise to remove it. Cheers, great video.
Really fantastic video, shows lots of details & what to expect once you get in to it. Thanks for taking the time to make such a detailed video. It's a little less intimidating now.

Thank you soo much. Thanks to you i just replaced my fuel pump and saved 350$. I also feel accomplished. I could not have done it without you. Keep up these types of videos you are amazing at explaining. Tomorrow im changing the catalik converters too.
How did that go
I have the same truck even the color. So i just followed his lead how he explains it and wallah! Like magic. And the catalic i had to cut it before taking it off, the new one came in 2 parts. But still took all day to replace.
Glad I could help
Hey people don't forget to do the fuel filter, that is more than likely a good reason why the pump burned up. I replaced my filter first and I can tell you that it was so plugged I could not even blow through it, Nothing but sludge and black fuel came out of it when I tapped it on the ground. Good luck and great video!! Thank you!
Excellent video Sir….I want to thank you very much for taking the time for making it 🙏
Thank you for taking the time to video this process. I'm about to spend Memorial Day replacing my fuel pump.
Went in confident after watching this video. Knowing how to undo all the different clips really helped out a lot rather than figuring it out underneath the truck.
Thats cell phone , was good for me . Well explained .. gave me an idea of what i facing .
Its plow season here in jersey . Found a 2004 ford pick f250 , with 74,000 on the clock . Seller said he had to replace the fuel pump . So i was curious what the job entailed. Very well explained ...good luck on the installation.
Thanks again
Hey buddy. I wanted to thank you for your video. It really helped make my fuel pump replacement easier!
Excellent presentation. Very knowledgeable. Thank you for sharing.
God bless you. I have an extended cab and moved that back enough to squeeze my body in there and still broke a line
Damn cell phones…legend has it he is still working on the reinstallation part of the video 😂 jkjk this tutorial is great! Thank you so much 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Great video! Very detailed. Just what I was looking for.
Thank you for posting!
Nice to hear some safety tips
Thanks - saved me fighting clips i can hardly see’ hope your well n truck is running!
Great video, have to do this job in a couple days. Thank you for the tips!!
See me and you are very different, you're looking ahead at videos so you know what to do, I have the bed pulled off looking at the fuel pump and then decided to RUclips a video
I found this to be an excellent source of information to repair my truck
Short bolt goes to the front side of tank. Longer bolt goes to the back
THANK YOU!!!!! Great vid with all the info I needed!! Well done!!
Awesome video! Thanks for u taking the time out of ur day to try and help others!!
This was a life saver thank you
Great Description, both audio and visual Thanks
Nice job grampa. Love you
Good job, great insight and tips.
Thanks good buddy, you'd think they'd put a small door in the truck bed to eliminate the hassle.
Hey, guys, anybody, am getting ready to replace my fuel pump following the instructions in this great video. Just one question, I belive still have half tank gas, Do I need to empty it or just be careful??
Good info. But I gotta say that mine is anything but EASY! A bit more close-up/detail about the electrical connections would sure be helpful! Doing this on a reg cab long bed and even with drive shaft removed takes a contortionist to get between exhaust and tank! And even then it's impossible to get both hands in there! BTW longer tank strap bolt is in the front .Your vid was helpful though. Thanks for posting!
Yeah but I did have the tank hanging on straps and lowered about 4 in before I sat up between the fuel tank and the exhaust and I was able to get both hands up there
Good video 👍👍👍
Thanks dude helped me out
Great video thank you for putting this up. It helps out.
Thanks for making this.
Great video just watched it too late after I snapped each of the clips on the fuel line to the pump
Thanks for the video. I'm about to do this on my truck. Could you have removed fuel filler hose from the tank instead of disconnecting from filler neck? Looks like it would be easier, but don't know if it is accessible with tank still on the truck.
Too hard to get to, it was easier to disconnect the hose from the filler neck
@@skidoorider5856 Just replaced fuel pump today. I was able to just pull hose from fuel tank instead of filler neck. Once I lowered fuel tank a little, there was just enough room to loosen the clamp. Then, I was able to push hose off from the space between frame rail and fuel tank. Applying some oil inside of the hose before assembling made it easy to put hose back on. Took me about 3 hours. Now the problem is... My issue was not the fuel pump after all. Wasted money and time. :( I have intermittent fuel pressure issue at idle and I have replaced FPDM, fuel filter, fuel pump, checked grounds, now only remaining problem is fuel pressure sensor.
And an advise to those who cannot get quick disconnects with pull tab disconnected. Make sure pull tab is fully out. I couldn't get mine off and it turns out pull tab was not fully out. Pulled it just little bit more and came right off.
Thanks! I need to replace the fuel pump and was wondering how to lower the tank.
Excellent sir
2008 Ford F150 V 8, 5.4 litter. Hary David son edition . what is the best fuel pump to buy for replace OEM unit??? thanks so much !!!
You didn't mention how hard it is to get the metal ring off. I used a 1/8 x 6" brass nipple. After smacking my hand a few times I decided to hold the nipple with Vise Grips. 3 good wacks and I had it off. The lines were very hard to get off of the pump. I broke the nipples off. Get the clips off Amazon. You will not be left standing there thinking of using hose clamps on the pump nipples.
No bad mouthing your video on this end
I was able to get the clamp off with a 1/4 ratchet and socket
Awesome, does this appy to an extended cab as well?
Thank you.
Is it possible to just cut a hole in the bed, replace pump, and then fashion water tight access door, or seal it back completely?
It depends which cab you have and where the pump is located in relationship to any braces that may be on the truck bed
Why didn’t you show us how to take it out
REALITY SETS IN: I have dropped at least 100 fuel tanks with some being very difficult and some being very easy. Most people would agree with me when i say If you have to remove the driveshaft it is NOT an "easy" fuel tank removal. If you have to remove the pencil brace and work through a tiny hole to reach hose clamps and cut vent lines it is NOT an easy removal. You are a glass half full optimistic person! I watched this video hoping this was an easy job and i was exuberant at your early claim of "easy job". But, as i watched the video i became deflated seeing this is most definitely NOT an easy job...
This must be a Florida or California truck, No rust!
Nope it is a pure Michigan truck just well taken care of
This is the video you want to study.
Get your parts on line like the man says or you may 😢$$$
Those hoses are a s.o.a.b how bout that ftp sensor
The electrical connections on top of the pump how does the big white connector lock? And the transducer... is there a lock on that clip?
Go to the 7: 25 Mark in the video and play from there it explains it
I'm having trouble sliding the red tab sideways so I can unplug the pump ... I don't want to break it...
Not sure what tab to push down to release the red slide lock?.. I'm not seeing it...
Your Design might be different Try pushing the plug-inward first and then try to slide the Red locking tab over Or there could be a lot of dirt and grime in their spray some WD-40 around that plug First
I Know This A Crazy Question But Did you remove the gas from your tank ?
Yes I removed the fuel from the tank it made it a lot easier to put the fuel tank back in... I had little over quarter tank when I lowered it I siphoned out the fuel into 5 gallon buckets
@@skidoorider5856 How did you go about siphoning the tank? I tried the obvious way, but there has to be an anti-siphon check on the tank.
Anyone know the part number for the two vapor lines that come out of the top
Of the fuel pump and join back together after a few inches??
i got a question for anyone//// can a fuel pump still not work even though it buzzes loudly... cause my truck wont start but the fuel pump buzzes louder then usaul
Definitely, the most distinctive signal is a whining noise. That’s how a worn out or old pump sounds like.
A well-working fuel pump usually produces a quiet humming, so once you hear the excessively loud whining, buzzing, or grinding noise be sure that it’s time for the pump to be replaced. But before you pull the tank check the fuel pump driver module housing for corrosion it is located on the frame behind the spare tire
Thanks for the reply
skidoo rider my truck is running now,,, thanks to your video!!
Check your fuel filter
Is there a trick to removing the pump? It appears the pump platic housing is larger then the hole????? Is the a certain way the pump comes out and goes in?
No when you undo that locking ring the pump should spring upward about an inch then there is a line that connects on the inside of the pump after you remove that you slowly pull it upward and out you may have to angle it a little bit to get the float past the opening as you are removing it
No Part 2 yet?
Did u ever make a video of u putting it back together I'm having an issue with 1 electrical connection. The one that attaches to the tank
No I never did get an opportunity to do that video
💪🔝
I had my fuel pump replaced twice now about 2 weeks apart. Before the pump was replaced, the fuel gauge was fine. Now after both, the gause only reads just over half tank when it is full. Did you have this problem? Or have any clues what it may be
No .. I did not have this problem my truck has 139 inch wheelbase and I ordered the pump accordingly to the wheelbase you have to know your truck's wheelbase when you order the fuel pump.. and it doesn't hurt to do a side-by-side comparison to your old one and make sure the bend angles for the float rod are the same
the part that's troubling me is the actual pump removal as there is an internal line connected to the underside of the pump that I couldn't get off. Any advice?
On my pump it was the same clip as the fuel filter clip .what I did to get it off was, I pushed the line towards the bottom of the pump . and then I pulled back the center tab and then pushed the other part of the tab against the line and it came right off
How high did you have to jack up the truck? I have a 2013 5.0 and need to replace the sending unit in the fuel pump assembly. Fuel gauge something works and something don’t.
I raised the back So that the tires were 4 to 6 in off the ground.
How many gallon is your gas tank?
My truck has a 27.5 gallon fuel tank and a 139 inch wheelbase when buying a fuel pump you have to use your wheelbase size for the pump to get the right float you can find a wheelbase size in the door jamb on the VIN sticker
The green clip is stuck how can I remove with out damaging the clip
Push down on the fitting and then push the tab inward and then pull-up on it and it should come off that's what I had to do
What do you do when bolts turn with the screw on the tank
Not sure what you're talking about are you talking about the tank strap bolts
@@skidoorider5856 he got it thanks for replying
how did you remove the plastic hoses from the actual clamps off of the hoses that connect to the pump? mine seem theyre shrink wrapped on there extremely tightly.
There are locking tabs on the lines that connect to the fuel pump, I did not put that in the video on how I disconnected the pump. but you do not cut that plastic on those lines or you will be going to the dealer to replace them you have to look at it closely and you can remove them by looking at a how I removed the EVAP line , and how I disconnected the fuel filter line, the Locking Tabs are very similar to those just a different color
@@skidoorider5856 i realize the blue/yellow clips that keep the hose clips in place.I was talking about the actual hoses that connect to the elbow shaped hoses.you have yours disconnected.thats what I need to do.
How much dose the tank weigh
The weight of the tank is not that much, it is the weight of the gasoline inside the tank ,, a gallon of gasoline weighs 6.3 pounds, just do the math how many gallons do you think you have in there
Have u had any issues with the new pump?
No issues whatsoever everything is working fine... knock on wood
What's the wheelbase for your truck? Thanks
139 inches
Do you think 139 wheelebase is the same for a 04
Was it throwing codes for this issue?
There were no codes ..if yours is throwing codes whatever they may be , check the fuel pump driver module first behind the spare tire on the frame
@@skidoorider5856 already replaced that
Any chance u have that pump part number
No I don't have the part number but if you look on the tag inside your door jamb it will show you on the bottom left it will say WB and under that will be a number which indicates your wheelbase that's how you make sure you get the right pump for your truck
Fuck those fuel line tabs are a bitch... esp the blue tab that goes from fuel pump too fuel filter,.. and everything is filled with dirt and mud. Cause im from a Reservation. So everything underneath is rusty dirty muddy. No pavement just dirt roads
Did you also used a floor jack to lowered it? or just the straps? Thanks
Yes I used the floor jack to help lower it I loosen the straps up just to keep it from falling off the floor jack
Don’t look easy to me
Is the pump under the cab or bed
The pump is under the cab on a four-door and a extended cab
Would it be possible to check the connector for the fuel tank pressor sensor without completely dropping the tank after moving the driveshaft?
There's not much room up in between the tank and the bottom of the cab you will have to lower the tank at least three or four inches to access those connectors
