Yes, everyone, you saw correctly. I am an arrow key user, and not WASD. Maybe it's from gaming way back in the days when keyboard keys were 3 inches tall, and your wrist would push every key below or be propped in an incredibly uncomfortable position. Or maybe it's because arrow keys give you perfect symmetry, with plenty of larger and easier buttons around them to press. Or maybe it's because I am a pioneer, and you all are doing it wrong.
Sooooo you gamed on a typewriter? Fascinating.
@@danielschmaderer Hey in junior high school that was a class. And the game was could you type ADDA ABBA LADS LADA LLDD JKL; Thousands of times, over and over, without having your brain shut down. It was a fun game.
@@niccollsvideo fascinating how far games have evolved. Doom is as far back as I can go on a computer during my middle school years. So my question to you is, do you still play ADDA ABBA LADS LADA LLDD JKL; and how do the graphics hold up compared to Metro?
I play using arrows too... it's easier always. everyone else is definitely doing it wrong .... rofl
That laugh though...
The most controversial part of this video is Chris not using WASD while gaming.
This.
Sickening. Repulsive.
his laptop transformed into a furnace, maybe the bottom right corner is colder :D
That's not controversial. Elite gamers all use NUM keys. Everybody knows that!
Just two guys, drinking rosé, shooting the shit… 😂
Lol
Jordan refuses to play modern games. His dad transformation is complete
Bwahahahahaha!! As a Dad whose last video game contribution to his kids was a Commodore Amiga CDTV running a shareware Pipes game, I resemble this remark.
😂
"Quake or forsaken?" Oof Jordan, way to hit me in the nostalgia.
To me those are 'modern' games..... feeling VERY old right now!
I played both games when they were released. Now I'm feeling old 😅
Damn Jordan, could you check if we can play quake and forsaken on the M1? We should start the club of FCPOldSchool Gamerz. I upgraded my PC/old Hackintosh last winter. Thought I could start playing games again and almost has to 🤮 after just a few minutes. I guess I can only game on 19" heavy duty CRT monitors ;)
The first release of Descent for me.
At least he didn't say doom :-)
Commenting only to draw attention to Jordan's fantastic Amadeus shirt!

Try buying anything at a retailer like Best Buy..
@@cars291 At least at Best Buy, I know I'm getting maybe not the sharpest tool in the shed. As opposed to the Apple store where it's the same deal except that they're Apple nerds so they think that they invented modern day computing.

They are so dumb they can't say even say ""Here's a few thousand dollars, turn it into an AMD Threadripper PC desktop computer for me?"
I have to say, I love the banter from you two! You guys spark so much joy in my life.
My takeaway is buy the iMac and spend the saved $1750 on camera gear. OK I'll go do that right now, thanks guys another great vid.
I bought MacBook Air and bought wife Mac mini and a new lens. Lol blew the rest of money on bourbon and cigars.
The real takeaway is buy a purely AMD laptop and get more performance than both with better efficiency than the Intel system and save money. If you can tolerate the looks, the Asus ROG Strix G15 AMD Advantage Edition will run with Chris' laptop for a fraction of the price.
😂
Chris has tiny little legs 00:26
Hahahahahaha
Can't unsee that now.
forearms or four arms XD
good spot! totally didnt see that myself :(
hahahaha
LOL. I would never have noticed that.
Aside from this Mac x Pc discussion, what a cool Amadeus t-shirt. Best movie ever.
Thanks! It's one of my favourite films.
That’s because you know nothing about music. I enjoyed the movie the first time. After that the nonsense got sickening.
It's not about music, it's about cinema. The photography, costumes, direction, storyline, actors' performance and many other aspects are outstanding. If you are saying that because of the lack of historical accuracy, this movie doesn't mean to be accurate once it's based on a stage play. So, if you say I know nothing about music (even not knowing me), I can say you know nothing about cinema and photography. Maybe you should be commenting on Rick Beato's channel instead. Peace.
@@LucianoStabel And that unforgettable laugh too! 👍

Thank you for the nice comparison.
Very nicely done!
I like how simple, straightforward and fun this video is. No fancy b-rolls or whatsoever, just plain facts and real life test/scenarios. It's interesting to see that Macs are now 'cheaper' than PCs. Apple's chip has tons of potential, to think we are just seeing the 1st generation. Can't wait to see 'gaming' Macs and more apps being optimized for the M chip.

my wife is all Apple (literally, you name it, she's got it), I'm all PC and Android... and we get along just fine
Android was created with the Linux kernel, so one could argue that most the computers in the world actually run on Linux.

Not to mention the power consumption difference and the fact that the M1 iMac isn’t a professional unit. I’de like to see them do this same test when the M1X/M2 iMac is released.
It is the GFX card.

I'm an intel person, I"ve built all my computers myself, to edit video, and frankly the $2000 extra you pay for that laptop Chris is using are not justified to gain a few seconds. I think I'm going to seriously, for the first time in my life, at Apple computers.
The price difference is also because of the GFX card which is 400% faster.
AMD have some serious computing stuff as well. Keep your freedom?
Don't forget that one of the reasons laptops are more expensive is because of the battery component inside does cost money

Nice and fun video to watch 😄
The price and performance if the M1s is quite impressive, however their low amount of RAM and storage as well as lack of support for virtual machines currently prevents me from truly considering them for work.
M2 pro systems are on the way
As a « hardcore gamer » I decided to keep my old desktop PC (i7 2600 / GTX 970) and skip the upgrade for a few more months or years, and instead invested in a M1 MacBook Air.
It can’t do gaming, yes, but the complete silence yet power of this thing is amazing.
I just hope I won’t regret its unrepairability in a few years though (I probably will...).
Good video!
As a PC user I've found that using macs can be quite challenging, just the other day I was showing my friend how to use torrents on her macbook and the whole experience was just weird. Are there any hangups that you've experienced going from a PC to mac? What are the most frustrating ones?
Try Apple Arcade. No, seriously. Mobile games can actually be fun when every last bit of scamware, DLC-BS and other monetization crap has been filtered out.
Your M1 MacAir is silent because there nothing you can do on it. My friend just bought AMD 4800H laptop doing VFX , not silent, but not loud machine. But who needs intel these days?

Great video Guy's. Informative and entertaining as always. 🔥💯
Great video, loved it!
Loved it. Great Video.
Loved the banter! 😄 Pretty impressive when you consider the M1 is using a fraction of the power and evolved from phone / tablet processors. I think when Apple starts pushing the higher wattages that have traditionally been in the larger 27” models, things are going to really heat up in these types of comparisons… no pun intended, lol.
yeah they forgot to include power usage and noise levels ;-)
The M1 is not using less power - its incredible the ignorance in the comments! Its a DESKTOP iMAC!
@@leticiali So... the entire M1 iMac computer consumes between 43-84W ...and the laptop's i9 processor alone (just the chip by itself) consumes between 65-110W, lol. But I think you missed the point I was trying to make - my 2020 27' 10-core Intel i9 iMac consumes between 74-295W... so when Apple decides to start pushing higher wattages in their chips, in larger form factors like the 27' (which have traditionally had higher TDP's and more cooling than the 24'), the performance is going to be exciting to watch!
@@ChrisProuse I think you missed all my points. Read my point by point summation. If they want to compare, do an apple to apple, orange to orange test! You're all still talking about lousy Intel chips & nonsensical assumptions of iMac power draws. Why not try comparing my late 2020 Lenovo Yoga AMD 4800H 8 CPU core 16 laptop costing less than US$1000 against ANY iMac for example? I bet it will still beat any iMac hands down!
@@leticiali - Lol, that wasn’t my point at all, and you (who replied to my comment), completely missed it again. So I’ll make it super easy for you to understand - Apple’s cranking out more performance per watt… and I’m excited for when Apple pushes the wattages higher in their larger form factors like the 27’.
I very like this format; a fair, real-world comparison with some fun. I like the way you guys discuss together.

Just remember that the M1 Mac is the entry level model and half the price of the PC laptop. Wait for the new macbook pro and iMacs with the M1X or whatever the new chip will be called coming out in the fall.

Was Chris's Intel laptop plugged in during all the tests? That would also effect the results. Supposedly the RTX cards cut down their performance when not plugged in to be more efficient.
Definitely plugged in. And it does make a big difference.
Jordan's computer is also plugged in 😂
You can see the power cord to the right of his laptop in a lot of the wide shots where you see both systems.

No bias here. I use a Windows computer for editing on a daily basis and I am now considering an M1 for travel purposes.

One thing I find really useful in speeding up large exports in Capture one is removing the previews from the ram, once you’ve got the export going (you usually have a lot of files selected and a folder with a lot of previews open at this stage) go back into the folder tab, click on an empty folder such as the selects shortcut and then go back into the output tab, taking the previews out of the equation especially with a lot of adjustments and a stack of files really helps speed things up, have done this since my early digitech days and haven’t looked back. Could be psychological when you are at the end of a shoot staring at the output queue but it feels at least 25% quicker.
haha, the intro was brilliant :)

Where's a Ryzen PC? :'( Intel is soooooo last year.
Yeah Intel is pretty slow for this type of workload
Definitely agree with you !. i had edited 4k dci fuji on premier pro with just a ryzen 3 laptop which cost less than many mid range phones...... it will be pretty interesting to compare m1 or the next version of it with a top end ryzen/threadripper laptop/pc.... i am sure there will be a big performance jump.. even only factoring the number of cores and threads on a top end amd cpu... but apple products are aimed for people who don't want to spend time trying to solve issues and customize things, thus letting them spend their time on getting the actual work done without distractions... also mac is designed pretty simple and less settings to tweak etc.. just straight forward to use etc.... so i guess it depends on the type of work and the time they have etc... but haven't tried a pc/laptop with windows 11.. heard it will be a bit more optimized like mac os... also final cut pro is a major factor which steer the content creators to choose mac...
@@xWood4000 On the laptop side of thing, AMD is not that much better than Intel's 11th gen CPU, it's really similar performance but on a desktop, that's a much different story. When it come to video editing, the GPU matter a lot more on WIndows because Davinci and Premiere mostly use the decoder inside the GPU... CPU performance only matter for exporting.

One things is for certain, the Mac was prettier to look at than the laptop 😁
How has Apple gone from twice the price to half the price in one generation?
ARM system on a chip (SOC) technology. Within 3 years x86 will be so far behind and so much more expensive it will be a joke to try and compare these two systems
@@PeterbFree TSMC makes both Apple and AMD chips-and Apple monopolized the new fab on purpose to cut other vendors out. Even so, AMD is currently ahead of Intel-however, neither of those companies are going to take this lying down. The chip wars are anything but over!
@@PeterbFree Intel and AMD will have to start producing SOCs for laptops. The performance gains and lack of throttling due to overheating means it’s the only way forward. As for Apple all their current Intel Macs are based on laptop technology. The M1 chipset is also targeting laptops. I can’t see that changing for the higher end chips.
Intel and AMD will continue to rule the high end desktop market where heat can be dissipated using more efficient water cooling.

Wait 18 months and everything will start getting optimized for m1 type chips/devices. I dont have a cat in this fight but i feel like things are about to get faster.
Yes it was
What runs on m1 are already optimized while windows sw has to be compatible on a lot of older hw and different brands.
imho, the real thing that wasn't took into account here was the fact teh Chris have a laptop. Getting such power hungry components into a relatively small package that needs to look cool, have a screen and a keyboard and a big chungus battery (like it's just below the maximum amount of Wh that you can carry in a plane without it being considered as a potential explosive weapon)
All of this cost money, and you pay full price for what is effectively cut down versions of the desktop parts (the i9 is a laptop chip, and has a smaller power enveloppe, and the RTX 3080 mobile is based off the chip of the RTX 3070 for desktops (GA 104). The real desktop version of the RTX 3080 is based on the same chip as the 3090 (the GA 102) and is much, much more powerful than the 3070, especially when it comes to 4K.
If you would compare a 1600$ desktop PC with the M1 imac, I'm quite sure that the results would not be as close. Even more if you include AMD into the picture, where they've been killing Intel when it comes to productivity since 2019, when Ryzen 3000 came out. Not mentionning there is some powerful AMD laptops as well that just kicks ass thanks to the 7nm process being more power efficient.
Otherwise, really nice video
(can't wait to see a 1v1 Chris vs Jordan in Quake tho)
The iMac is a laptop attached to monitor. The performance will be very close to a macbook. I agree they should be comparing like for like, but it will hurt intel even more. The macbook air has much better performance, battery life and less throttling on battery compared to anything in its price range. You can also compare the iMac to all in ones in the price range but it will also be much faster and have a better monitor, speakers, build etc. Apple does have a real desktop competitor yet but I assume the higher end 27+ iMac will hold their own dollar for dollar when you consider the cost for the monitor.

@@andrescarrasco1248 No Apple left Intel because it was easy to do direct comparisons of Apple v Wintel. Then factor in that Apple doesn't do hardware updates often and you end up with comparisons that have Apple a couple generations behind for the same price.

In 2 or 3 years they will all follow apples lead, using mobile tech and more and more integration into 1 SoC packege will take over the lowend, then middle and then even highend systems. upgradable machines will become the exception not the rule moore-law kind of demands things becoming smaller and closer together both on these chips but also for example on camera sensors with stacked designs it just makes design sense.
