I can imagine Chris' money-is-no-object pick of being the Hubble space telescope. I hear it takes pretty decent low light photos.
But can it do puddleshots? I think not 😂
I do like telephoto photography more and more.
$400 billion kit lens- space telescope ?
But the Eye-AF on the Hubble is not the best actually
Why buy the Hubble when you can buy the James-Webb with 100x more light gathering capability?… oh right, it’s a better value when buying used old gear…
You guys missed the opportunity to make the skit even more convincing by filming the entire thing back on the now-legendary Pentax K-01
Or the just released Pentax K3 III. Jordan can't claim he's not familiar with them anymore! Feel The Joy, Jordan! 🤣
@@WildBikerBill I dont know how Pentax is still existing in 2021 and why they are not going into mirrorless even in 2021
"They stole everything. Oh no!"
"No, they left the K-01. OH NO!"
@@adityaarayan2340 They'd rather use their existing technology to be a specialized fish in a small pond than attempt to slug it out with industry heavyweights.
@@adityaarayan2340 because of people like me who aren't interested in mirrorless lol.
(no seriously, back in ~2000 I was worried that the big switchover to digital was going to kill off real cameras i.e. SLRs... I was relieved when a whole bunch of DSLRs hit the market in the following years. Seems my fears were justified, just 20 years off. *sigh*)
I f***in’ love your intros. Seriously, even if im not interested in a specific review I click to watch the intro!
Yeah maybe that intro can explain their Sony option consideration! A sony fanboy stolen their stuff so Chris even didn't consider any Sony option!
Ditto!
perhaps instead of an infinite budget maybe do a full pro two body kit you would use for pro photogrpahy work like events, sports or weddings.
second that...
Personally I go with one generation older camera bodies to splurge on lenses. My $3000 on eBay got me a Fuji xt3, 10-24, 23f2, 56 f1.2 and 55-200.
Agreed. I would spend ~$1,000 on the body and throw the rest at lenses.
Do you guys think an A7ii is still a good buy or an A7Rii ?
@@Harvester88 good cameras but the only thing is you are going to run into issues with newer accessories possibly not working well with those cameras because of the older tech
@@Harvester88 having used both, the autofocus, image quality and 4K recording puts the A7Rii miles ahead of the A7ii. The Rii feels a touch more sluggish when writing images to the card, the buffer fills faster, but in every other way it's a much, much better camera.
Loved this...now how about mid range...say $2,500. Seriously, such a great blend of entertainment and helpful information and reviews! Be safe and be well!
Yes, yes and YES! Exactly what I was thinking. My budget is usually around that mark. The other videos were great fun, but $1,000 is too low and $4,000 too high. A $2,500 video would really hit the sweet spot for me.
$2500-3000 on eBay with one generation older camera can get you a dream setup for sure. As much as all brand new is tempting you’d be paying twice as much for a marginally better kit. More lenses is way more fun to have than a slightly newer body.
So how many fake accounts does DP review have?
Don't forget that adapting DSLR lenses is still a great option when you are on a tight budget and lots of these lenses are selling for really low prices on the used market right now. I would get the Z5 or R6 with the adapter and could probably even fit the whole trinity of used (third party) lenses into the budget.
im actually in the market for a tamron g2 70-200 for my z6. I did find one on my local fb marketplace/craigslist, but I need to get a tapin console to make it work with the z6 which pushes the price up. I'm tempted to spend 800CAD more and just buy a used FL/vr3 nikon.
That's actually exactly how I did my "under $4000" kit switching to a new mount system with the Z6. There are still a few gaps in Nikon's native Z mount lenses that are missing or are a bit out of my price range, but I can just get a tried and true F mount lens if I want something to tide me over as new native lenses are created. And the used market for those F mount lenses is huge; from good 2-3 year old lenses on used sites and auctions; to finding decades old manual lenses at garage sales and estate sales for under $50. I got a 50mm 1.4 for $20; it's fun to play with and the smallest lens I got, I can fit it in a pants pocket.
@@exploresouthwest Nikon used resources are plentiful and to some extent, more versatile than Canon EF. But for most people wanting modern features and reliable autofocus, EF platform has more great glasses.
Your intros are always a highlight I look forward to 😊
For me, as someone who wants as much versatility with quality as possible, I'd go for the Olympus Em1ii with the 12-100, 7-14 and the 30mm macro lens
I think it would have been funnier if you both showed up with X-T4s xD
I love my XT-4 for being hybrid, it would make sense if you need both.
i’m kinda dumb, but isn’t that way under 4k?
@@natesenft5376 Not with a 50mm F1 or the 8-16mm, or the 16-80mm plus 70-300 plus Samyang 12mm, they have to buy optics too.
definitly hahahaa
I thought the XT4 was going to win... at least they didn't pick the Panasonic GH5 II 😅🤣😅🤣😂🤣😅😂
You know we want to see that kit… along with a battle. Best shot? 5 second clip or one hell of a photo?
Thanks for the great content guys. Always stoked to see a notification from you!
Loved this episode, so funny and agree with both your choices. Would love to see your guys dream set ups!
That intro is brilliant. Subscribed.
This was one of the best videos on DP Review!
So how many fake accounts does DP review have?
Two years ago, I buyed a full MFT System for my world trip. Also around 4000$ now.
Panasonic G9 2200€
PanaLeica 8-18mm F2.8-4 1000€
PanaLeica 12-60mm F2.8-4 Kit
Panasonic 100-300mm F4-5.6 500€
Panasonic 20mm F1.7 250€
Much more versatile lens setup.
About same time, I bought my MFT world travel kit. Your choices look good, but it's too much gear for the type of traveling we do. We do a lot of walking with our luggage. Thinking about traveling with two lens kit: 25mm F1.8 primary and Zuiko 12-40mm F2.8 PRO or Leica 8-18mm for bad weather days.
@@bradleyeid9260 I walked every day over 20km and also up the Table mountain. It's perfect match inside my backpack. If you don't want chase birds no need for the tele. Save 500g, but better have them miss a shot.
@@Titanpharao Great that you can carry all that gear on extended trips. I love the Lumix 100-300 F4.0-5.6. It's great for birding and wildlife. However it probably won't travel overseas with me. My travel day pack includes water bottles, usb power packs, rain gear, snacks, etc, which limits the amount of photo gear. Also some of the tours on my wish list limit total baggage to 10KG. I wish more reviewers would factor size into the discussion.
The kitzooms are good compared to the more expensive MFT lenses at smaller apertures, so for daylight shooting and portability, I choose two or three lightweight kitzooms to cover a wide range. I usually stop down for landscape stuff anyway. The Lumix 14-140mm is the core of my vacation setup, the Lumix 100-300mm for telezoom and the Olympus 9-18mm for wide. But I can be happy and enjoy myself with just the 14-140mm.
If all my gear werd stolen, I'd probably get MFT again and look for a deal with a body and a 14-140mm lens together. And build on that again.
Absolutely love these videos, so glad you made one for a bigger budget! Please keep making things like this

A big yes for a unlimited budget kit ! I would also enjoy seeing a video about the best USED kit for 3000$. Thanks for your excellent videos, look forward to seeing more of them. cheers
My main consideration would be to choose a system that I could expand into later by upgrading bodies or adding lenses.
A clever concept. This keeps it fresh and entertaining. BTW, we used to say the same thing about being from Calgary (up in Edmonton, that is).
Great stuff guys and well done with the intro :-) +1 for money-is-no-object episode!
Lol great cameo from Dunna! And the video was top notch as usual
Brilliant as always chaps 👍
Thanks a lot. Yesterday i sold my nikon z6 .and bought panasonic s5. Because of both of you.
Can’t wait to see unlimited thing! Go for it!!!
Loving this series guys, so HEEELL yeah wanna see a no-limit version. Although probably more interesting if it were still in the prosumer DSLR/mirrorless style bodies category, no?
Thanks again...great video. Yes to the unlimited gear video please. Clever Chris keeping the Nikon fans happy with his over budget choice.
Great video! I am looking forward to another video like this. Also, an idea: with COVID on the decline a lot of people are coming out of a cocoon and are maybe are ready to spend time (and money) on a hobby outside of their house... so maybe a video about how photography is a cool hobby? And, more gear guides for modest investments / people who are upgrading from a cellphone. For example, I loved Jordan's idea of a S5 in this video but he quickly admitted that he has no problem wrangling focus. What would his CA$ 5,000 kit be if he *needed* good autofocus?
I agree with Jordan's choice. I would put in a Rode Micro instead of one the Go mics and I use the Panasonic 24-105. Great kit!
Funny intro. The stills-video switch on top of the XT4 is so handy; I would go with a combination of your XT4 packages with a slight modification... XT4 + 16-80mm bundle, 70-300mm, rode wireless Go ii, K&F variable ND2-ND400, B&W CPL, Fuji battery charger, 3 Fuji batteries, Think Tank Mover 20 bag ...which adds up to $3956.80 USD ...so under the $4000 limit. Could probably add an inexpensive lavaliere mic. 🙃
How about a follow up video from this one or the low budget one ? Along the lines of ‘what to by next to expand the kit’ maybe more from the low budget kit. Great work as always guys !
would love to see the ultimate run and gun kit, especially from jordan from the video perspective, but also chris' insight since a souly videocentric camera wouldnt make sense either. love the work guys keep it up!
Love the "dpreviews". Love the humor. I got the feeling, that with most kits, they are considered a nice starting point with future purchases in mind. I went to the camerastore website and put together a kit for 4995.23 Canadian Dollars. Backpack, SD card, 1 body, 3 zooms, 3 primes, 14 to 600 mm reach, that I would be happy with .... ;-)
As I recently had about $4k USD to spend on some new kit primarily for landscape work, I picked up an open box S1 with the 24-105mm f/4 and a 16-35mm f/4 for about $3700 and had some funds left over for accessories. I simply love it and moving over from my G7, even though the weight it up there, I can't imagine going with anything else.
A lot of great choices and combos you all have there. For me, Lumix G9, 100-400 ELMAR, Two UHS-II V60 cards, USB battery pack for recharging, a BLF19.
Literally just purchased an X-T4, 16-55 f2.8, and a 70-300. Jumped ship from Nikon DSLRs that I used to own.
Enjoy! The 16-55mm f/2.8 is the best 'f/2.8 standard zoom lens' I have ever tried. It simply produces contrasty sharp images.
I love how they split it between photo and video. Well done!! I’m horrible sticking with a budget. I would have spent $6k US on a $4k budget.
You two are the best!!
I am going with the xt-4 it does both video and photo... Its great in using too... Love fuji
I'd rebuy my current setup: Z6 with 14-30 f/4 and 50mm 1.8. Rugged. Amazing ergonomics. Amazing setup for my needs.
Jordan is wearing the Amadeus T-Shirt! That’s one of my most favourite movies of all time! Nice one Jordan!
Nice video. It was fun. Thanks.
Great video, as usual, from you guys. Yes, i agree. You also agree as well. Panasonic is the most serious company out there as far as video quality matters. I LOVE my S5.
this video is so much fun !!
Thank you for the great video! Would love to see your thoughts with a 3k budget
Agree with the stills photography choice. I used to own the R6 (used to, because I upgraded to the R5 and blame the Ordinary Filmmaker for that!) and absolutely loved it for its image quality and ergonomics. The XT-4 is a good solid choice as well and was actually my third choice before I purchased the R6 back in September 2020.
You guys are the best!
The Z5 kit plus the Tamron 17-28 & 70-180 when they eventually makes it to the Z mount.
Would love to see the dream camera setup video, no budget.
Used Sony A7rii or A7riii, Tamron 28-200, Tamron 17-28 f/2.8 and a used fast prime like a 50mm 1.4 or 85mm 1.8. For way under budget get a used A7ii, Tamron 28-200, Samyang 18mm f/2.8 and used 50mm 1.8.
My personal budget kit is a Sony A99ii, Sigma EX 17-35 f/2.8-4, Sony 28-75 f/2.8, Sony 70-300 G, Sony 50mm f/1.4 and a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro. I also bought a Minolta 28-105 for about $100 for when I want to lighten my bag. This whole setup cost me around $2500usd.
You guys , how is this channel not bigger than it is ?! 👌
Spread the word!
Great vid guys! Jordan, are you not a fan of the 24-105 for the Panasonic?
Good choices, gentlemen.
As for me, I would go with the Sony A7 III. Even though the video is only 8 bit, it still looks fantastic being supersampled from a 6K sensor.
And, of course, I would buy everything used.
I did this over the last year and a half. With EDU discounts on top of sales, I was able to get a Sony a7iii + Sony 35 1.8 + Sony 20 1.8 + Sigma MC11 for less than $3000 USD. I'm using my old Canon 85 1.8 and 70-200 f/4. With that theoretical $1000, I'd probably try to get the Tamron 70-180 on sale too 😄
To be honest this video was only another promo for Canon while Chris has omitted Sony totally!
Picking the S5 made me pretty happy that I have my own. Still need a lens that's not a vintage lens that can autofocus for it, but all the footage with my ol' FD and MD lenses has been so beautiful
I'm actually going to buy it 5 days from now, can you give some real life experiences? I would have also liked to hear about the autofocus but you said you only had vintage lenses soo yea. I've handled one in Best Buy once and at least for photos, it is basically on par with my Canon 250D dual pixel af. I bet the video af is pretty solid too. Imagine Panasonic replacing dfd for phase det or something similar!!
@@sinanaydn7907 I've been using it to film me talking to the camera and it's been great, but I've been bringing it a bunch of places. It's bigger than any of my other cameras, heavier than my other cameras (except my Sony A55) and it takes some getting used to from them. At least for me. I ended up using my GX85 more until I can afford that Lumix 50mm f1 8. I've got a paid shoot to bring it to soon though, I've taken a bunch of portraits already and it's wonderful. Raw image files are about 30MB eith decent edit ability.
@@briandipierro8865 Thank you for the info! I'm planing to buy 24-70 for mostly photos and 16 f1.4 for video from Sigma, I actually want that hefty feel rather than my current very light 250D. Also, can you please explain how you got to shoot for money?? How were you able to stand out from the commercial photo/videographers? I also want to make money and possibly amortise the gear I bought while doing something I love. I'd love to hear tips and tricks from you 😁
@@sinanaydn7907 I don't actually have a lot of knowledge on that! I just have friends that are giving me money to shoot things for them. One needs video of him trying to fundraise for his film, so he's paying me for that. A bunch of others are for graduation photos for a couple people that like the portraits I've taken at my job. This all started because I brought my camera to my work holiday party and got pictures people loved. Isn't that 16mm f1.4 a crop lens? I've been wanting something more than my vintage lenses so bad.
@@briandipierro8865 thank you! Yes the 16mm turns out to be an APSC lens 😅, can you recommend and fast contemporary lenses for the S5 with silent af? I'm going with the 24-70 but I don't think that it's the fastest and the best for video purposes. I already do photography work at school but I think I'm going to charge now 😅; I've shot the graduation photos of 3 classes, I've shot dozens of events both videos and photos, even short films! Thank you for telling your experience!
Would love to see the money-no-object kits.
Would love to see this exact video, but including gear on the used market
Fun video with a great intro. I would like to see the kit with unlimited budget! Maybe also 8k (10k Canadian)?
Dream kit, yes please! Also, how about you guys talk about a design for a dream camera. Meld features from other cameras, how many dials and custom buttons, specs and such. Fun.
I would totally watch a money-no-object episode. This series could even be expanded: $3000 limit (in between your last two), sports/wildlife kit, landscape kit, etc.
Video budget should have been $5000! Great job guys.
Sony a7iii + tamron 28-75 f2.8 + tamron 70-300 + Sony fe 85/1.8 = 4K usd
My 4th grade Teacher Mr.Beattie was from Edmonton, he was a pretty cool guy I’ll never forget him aha
Kieślowski's poster - nice touch!
I liked it. The Z5 and R6 are both so good.
I’m a bit biased due to what I currently use and lack of experience in other systems, but I’d likely go for a Sony a6600, the Sony 16-55mm f2.8, 70-350mm f4.5-6.3, and then maybe the upcoming tamron 11-20mm f2.8, or the Sony FE 35mm f1.8.
The Z5 is a great starting point: full frame, 2 card slots, and IBIS. Can also get the cheaper f/4 zooms and a prime to fill out the kit
Fujifilm TX-1 (Xpan) + 45mm lens - that is so beautiful
Really fun video.
Using ebay prices, other kits are possible.
If g9 or em1 mk2 is 800 usd
8-18 is 800
40-150 2.8 olympus or 50-200 panasonic for 1000
17mm 1.2 pro for 800
Sigma 30mm 1.4 or 42.5 1.7
You're still under budget! The Leica ultrawide and standard prime could be replaced with the 10-25 1.7 if one prefers.

Would love see you Dream Kit for Camera Gears
A very important mindset I'd have when building out a new kit is expandability. Skimping on a body or lens with the idea of "I'll just replace it later" is just shooting yourself in the foot later down the road. I'd build a kit that has gear you'll be using for 2-3 years that covers as many bases as you can out the gate and add lenses you use less often as you get money later. So it's super important to be choosing a mount ecosystem you'll be happy with for a while.
I'm with Chris on the Z5 for photography on a budget. Picked one up recently after the price drop. It's really enjoyable to use with old film era glass. The R6 is great too, though a lot pricier. Hopefully both companies fill out their mirrorless lens lineup at the entry level. It would be nice if Nikon had a lower cost 50mm f/2 or similar.
The $200 Canon RF 50mm is extremely tempting
I love these videos and appreciate the humor that you put into them, but I question the call Chris made. I would argue that if you're primarily a stills shooter AND are looking for value AND you have to buy new, I would suggest looking at the tried and true DSLR. Nikon D750, Nikon D610, Canon 6D mark ii and the Pentax K1 have kits that come with lenses. If you're willing to consider aps-c sensors, then you get even more value options. Still, these are fun to watch. Great job, guys.
In the short term maybe, but in the longer term would you want to keep adding to an old lens mount?
I appreciate the love for panasonic!

Just recently picked up a 2-camera system and for $4000 budget, I wouldn't change anything about what I bought. But I probably would add another camera (that's a maybe). For sure, I would add more accessories like lenses, tripods, sliders, lav mics.
This was a fun watch, guys. Always enjoy your videos. Keep it up.
Which one did you get? 4k isn't really a big budget for 2 cameras and lenses
@@RobinHood948 My budget was way below $4000. I just thought I should explain that ahead.
Anyway, I bought the Lumix GX85 and the Lumix G85 (both with their kit lenses) with the cheap entry-level Olympus 40-150mm lens. I'm hoping to add the 25mm f1.7 soon and the Meike Cine lenses.
Dream kit episode would be great!
I got an R6 with the 24-105 f4/L last fall and really enjoy the setup. I do use it with the grip as to balance it out. Recently also got the 50mm f/1.8. Great for when you're going somewhere and just want to shoot some casual photo's with the camera suddenly becoming quite nimble without the grip attached. It also makes putting the camera in the hands of people less familiar with photographing a much nicer experience if you'd like to sometimes also want appear in photos with that expensive camera you bought :-D. No zooming in-and-out to confuse things as the 50mm focal length speaks for itself :-)
...And, since not all scenes involve moving subjects, let's throw in in-body stabilization... And let's not forget about the elements. I bet it will be a real hit. Thank you very much, guys, I feel very patriotic every time I see how you show-case our crappy weather.

I think you should do a hybrid kit next. At similar price point. Looking for something similar for myself as an upgrade form the a6300. Will probably end up with the a7c (with the crappy viewfinder) but unlimited video recording + decent resolution photos + lots of lenses with great AF to choose from.
HAHAHA I FREAKING LOVE THE INTROS
Do two more! One more practical best kit. One dream no limits kit.
Looking forward to the next one.
Agreeing with Jordan: S1 + S Pro 24-70mm (not biased at all as a S1 owner). Not for photography though. Photography has no budget!
Do the money no object. Always a fun topic. 👍🏾👍🏾
Nice video! As a long time Nikon shooter, for the equivalent of $4000 in the UK based on current Nikon promotion pricing for the Z series, my shortlist would be (A) Nikon Z5 + 24-200mm kit, 14-30mm, 50mm 1.8S, or (B) Nikon Z7 + 24-70 f/4 + FTZ kit, 50mm 1.8S, or (C) Nikon D780 + 24-120mm kit, Tamron 35mm VC, Tamron 85mm VC. Option A would be the most versatile small travel photography package, option B would provide the best image quality and allow for affordable expansion with used F-mount glass and option B would be a great DSLR hybrid package for travel and portrait work.
Hasselblad Xpan + 45mm lens or Fuji TX-1 with this lens - that all what I need in this budget.
A7rIII + Sigma 24-70 + Tamron 70-180
Yo the “Donna did it” plug midway is worth watching again 🤣…”Got it for a steal of a price” 🤣
Both seem like great kits
Yes please on the money no object vid!

Hey Chris, absolutely love the video!!!What do you think about this combination for photography: Canon Rp + Canon rf 85 2 + Canon 35 1.8 and Canon Rf 25-105 4.0 = 999 + 599 + 499 + 1099 = 3200 Usd approx
Loved the video! Would also like to see a mid-range camera kit ~$2500
In this price range buy the last generation camera and splurge on lightly used lenses. I got an xt3 and 4 great lenses for around that price.
Z5 (1000) + 24-200 (800) + 85 (700)
This is super fun
Would love to see the dream kit video
I think that needs to have rules too - maybe no more than 2 bodies and no more than 3 lenses per body
Rules are meant to be broken, but the other side of rules is that they allow space for creativity. Without boundaries, we can’t find new ways to solve problems
As a photographer I choose the s5 for stills or the g9 with a couple of lenses and you have with both good video to.
I think Panasonic S5 kit is a way better choice for both photos and video! Good choice!!
