Can't we just appreciate the fact that while Canon and Nikon were trying to anticipate and one-up eachother *just enough* to beat the other but *not enough* to give people what they wanted, Fujifilm and Sony just swallowed the market from under both of them? To each their own, but I have to disagree there. I carried around the monster Nikon with a huge heavy glob of wide angle glass on the front for years and it was tiring and not fun to use. The autofocus also was horrible compared to nearly everything else out there. Replaced it with a Sony mirrorless setup that is a fraction of the size and weight and does a phenomenal job. Autofocus is worlds better as well.
Have also used Fuji and loved it by comparison too. Just ended up with Sony for the FF sensor. ;)

      @@viketsomeyase2004 Def don't feel jealous.
What if they get the system and they find that it doesn't suit their shooting needs/wants/style. Well now they have to sell a very expensive system and buy into a new system that will fit their life better.
This is why I always tell beginners to go with the cheapest system (within reason) that they can find.
Because reviews can only tell you so much about what you need in a camera system. You won't know for sure if it's for you until you get shooting. No shade if you can afford the time/money/effort to swap camera systems easily should you not enjoy what you bought initially.
I started on Fuji and my needs/wants were drastically different to what Fuji offered. So it was a lot of time and energy spent selling and buying new systems after shooting for a while and determining through experience what my needs were. But if I wasn't able to afford that, I would have been stuck with a camera I didn't like, and I may have even given up photography altogether if it was too difficult to change systems for me.(or worse I could have ended up on Sony) :D
Most flagships are more than the majority of shooters will ever need anyways. By starting on a system without all the bells and whistles to distract you, you have the potential to learn your fundamentals and build your foundations a lot quicker than someone like me who started with a really fancy system and spent half my time googling what the menu settings were and why my camera was doing something I didn't mean to make it do.
The main takeaway here is that your first camera gets you shooting. And if you are doing that then you are on the right path.

    • @bluecollar8525
      @bluecollar8525 2 года назад +4

Honestly, I have an x-t4 and I'm thinking of going the other way. Ya, I might save 1.5-2k on a camera body, but 1.5 stops of extra light on the sensor is a big deal. To make up for that with the lens is just plain expensive. To get an f/1.2 or f/1.4 lens in the Fuji APS-c ecosystem is pricey, but there are plenty of f/1.4 or f/1.8 options in the full frame ecosystems. Even if they're 2/3 of a stop slower, the bigger sensor more than makes up for it, and those lenses are more affordable. Plus adapting vintage lenses doesn't need an expensive adapter that, more often than not, degrades the IQ. I love the tactile feeling of my x-t4. It's a huge pleasure to use, but I don't think it's a good long-term choice.

I'm a Sony Sales Representative that shoots Fuji. I love my Fuji system and use it professionally. The sensor DR is so good these days that FF is pretty much losing its grip in terms of advantageous. Does that mean there is no market for a FF system? Not at all. It's still there! But for many shooters who bite the marketing they don't understand what they want to do and how to do it. Can I shoot great portraits with an APSC? Yes, with a FF obviously, at what cost though? The difference is just some setting changes and that changes depending on lighting situation. I'm a big APSC advocate. I don't see myself needing FF but if I did it would be Sony. Sony dominates with reason but I don't agree with the "If you get into FF you'll easily get into the S and R" reasoning because R series requires a HEAVY investment in glass and post power. The S? It's not as practical as it's said. To sum, If Sony would take APSC seriously they would easily give Fuji a scare. But FF is something that more and more is sold as a all in one system and as I said before that's quickly closing with the advancements in technology. I Still sell shit tons of Sony gear and that mainly has to do with how Fuji is perceived and not actual value.

Sony took a6500 and rename it to a6600 by changing the battery with a better one, putting a plastic flip mechanism to the same LCD, and made some improvements to AF.... NOTHING more than this... at the year of 2019... On the contrary, FUJI, 1 year earlier, at 2018, released the XT-3 with great quality both in 4K and HD, new color tech, new sensor (from Sony by the way), 4k 60p, 10bit video.... Just to throw a spanner into the works. Fuji has, I gather, opened up their lens technology to other companies. Viltrox which makes great trio of primes reverse engineered. Rumour has it that Sigma and or Tampon are working on converting some of their glass to Fuji. That will make life really interesting.
I'm not a Sony fan, not because their cameras don't have merit. Rather over many decades I've bough a variety of Sony gear not just cameras and I've never had one that I enjoyed using or fulfilled the promise of the specs.
If all my Fuji gear got stolen and my needs changed I'd happily look at other systems. In photography on digital over twenty odd years I'm on my fourth brand so I'd say I'm brand agnostic rather than a fanboy. Really pleased with my kit, though if it could speak it would probably prefer a more skilled owner.
Anyway a great episode. Good to see Chris is getting back on form. I particularly like the way two friends can joust in an informed and very amusing way. Nothing puts me off like YTer's who are too shout or up themselves. Which obviously doesn't apply two guys.

I was choosing between the X-T3 and A7 III for my first "real" camera back in 2018 and the price of the lens ecosystem across the board won me over. The fact that they regularly do firmware updates for the latest and greatest features counts for something too. That being said, I feel like even Sony's old autofocus algorithms on the RX100 are better than they are on the Fuji (at least the X-T3), as I shoot a ton of multicam content for work and use a mix of RX100 and Z-V1 cameras. I've thankfully never really missed important shots, but when I was filming social content for a brand at World's Strongest Man a few months back, there were a few scenes that were just too complex for the X-T3 that I know even the RX-100 VII would've had no issues with. Switched to manual focus on the fly and got what I needed, but not ideal.
Never really saw a difference with similar lenses for photography between (good) APSC and full-frame, just usability and features between bodies. I shoot video for sports, food, and products for a living and do a ton of portraits on my own time and my only real request on something like the X-H2 is better AF. (Aside from a better codec, 4k120, blah blah. 12mp sensor if we're making wishlists.) If not...I hope Sony decides to ship Jordan an FX3 ASAP.
Love your stuff guys. Been following you since the other channel and the dynamic works incredibly well, pandemic or not.

I've run Sony and Fuji with full complement of lenses for about 3 years. Before that, I was unreformed Fuji fan since X-E1 (2013?).
And yet, I sold my last Fuji lens last week(from 11), continuing with Sony. That tells you which system I think is better.
Yet, a day after I sold last Fuji lens, I ordered X100V, to warm up my heart when I want those colours! :)

Funny time to post this video. Just sold my XT4 with the 16-55mm, 50-140mm, 56mm f 1.2 lens. It was a great camera, however for the same money I got the Sony 7RIV, with Tamron 28-70 and 70-180 lens, MUCH better picture quality, way better autofocus, and importantly lighter. Now, Fujis lens and camera build quality is quite a bit better, and yes it's better looking but for me the "fun" to use camera is the one that gives me the best picture quality. Also while, Fujis lens lineup is impressive, most of their lenses are outdated, slow to focus and the ones that are updated are mostly f/2 primes.

When I have thought about jumping from Nikon, I have always considered Fuji and not Sony. Fuji's cameras are designed beautifully and differently from Sony and Nikon. If I want to move to another system or add a second one, why not change things up?

As far as weather sealing, I can confirm Fuji has the lead. I had my XT2 during a hard mountain rain storm in Colorado and shot through all of it with zero issues and zero protection for it.
Later I switched to a Sony A7iii for the full frame look, and took on a hiking trip during the winter where it was dropped in snow. After that it gave me an error message the rest of the day and sometimes it comes on in light rain.
The Fujifilm is incredible in terms of weather sealing. I wish Sony would have added more into the a7iii body, for a semi pro body it is disappointing that I have to worry about it if the clouds go dark.

The XT4 rocks but sometimes I love the look of a full frame sensor, especially on long prime lens such as a 135mm F2, u just can’t get that some look an APSc,
I think both systems have there place though. The Fuji 56mm f1.2 is gorgeous and easily a great alternate to the full frame 85mm f1.8, so it all really depends on how you shoot.

Without even bothering to watch from experience Fuji 100% as Sony has zero customer support and will always try and back out of a repair or replacement that has happened to me once when I trusted Sony and will not happen again. Fuji on the other hand listens to their customers PLUS continues to offer support in regards to firmware even for older models, unlike Sony who simply stops all support and even going as far as removing old drivers from their website after a set time. Fuji if you are reading Don't become like Sony.

As Jordan said, Sony gives you the option to spend even more money. What Chris didn't mention is Fuji gives you the option to spend less. You could get an X-T30 with the same image quality except ibis for $600, all the way down to an X-E1 for $100, and use these with the same Fuji lenses giving you beautiful images. You can also get a Fringer adapter to mount cheap Canon autofocus lenses and of course adapt any number of vintage manual focus lenses or get cheap contemporary manual focus lenses or Viltrox autofocus lenses. It's a great time to be a photographer on a budget.

@@problemat1queThank you😁 At the moment I use an old Olympus em10 ii Igot 3 years ago (used) and I am not satisfied with the video quality and the af but the ibis is amazing. That’s why I don’t know which camera tu buy. I looked into Panasonic’s g81 but the af isn’t really good. Maybe I should get a xt-20 with a gimbal but I don’t now if the setup would be too big for me.

@@creativework2506 I found a used X-H1 (has IBIS) in a bundle with lenses which put the camera body at around $500, great deal and the AF is a little snappier than my old X-T20 which I sold. At the price of sucking up batteries like toddlers drink orange juice, but nothing a few $10 off brand spares can't fix. The Fuji 18-55 is an amazing lens between 18 and 40mm, definitely worth looking for a kit (pricing a used 18-55 around $350), so if you can find an X-H1 with 18-55 around $850 you're doing great. From Canon I got 10-18, 17-55 F2.8, 55-250 STM, 60 macro, 85 F1.8, 200 F2.8, which made the $250 for the Fringer adapter well worth my while, I've saved thousands of $$$ vs the Fuji equivalents. From Fuji, I use 18-55 for portability, 23 F1.4, 35 F1.4 (beautiful look on both, and very portable).

Fuji person here testing an A7iii for the AF & family shots. I’ve owned a lot of Fuji bodies (own 3 currently) and think the A7iii feels as, or more, robust than all of them. A7iii also smaller than I expected. I haven’t compared specs but it feels smaller than my X-H1. The sticky Sony AF is awesome.. but..but.. I am spending a LOT more time editing images to taste with the Sony. This may be a reason it goes back. I have slightly less sharp images from my X100V (still sharp) that look WAY better than Sony images SOOC or where I can get them to w/ LR.

Sony cameras can't do simple things like exposures over 30s, focus bracketing or switch the displays into night mode so all(!) Sony products are pretty unusable for my kind of photography. Fine, you can add all these missing features with external hardware like focus rails, external bulb timers or by taping gels over the display but at this kind of money I shouldn't. If I have to haul around a container of external gear around for things that all other manufactures can do in camera for much less money then these are just inferior products in my book.

Started my journey in photography with the Sony A7III...switched off to the XT-4. Never looked back. Just a more complete package for me. I totally understand the hype with the full frame, and I do miss it sometimes. But the XT-4 can use all of the features of the APS-C to its full potential. I'm in love with the small beast.

    What about customizable buttons?
I absolutely love my a7 III for having so many buttons, and 90% of them customizable, also i can save 10 picture profiles which can be modified just like any fuji film simulation
a7 III has 2 memory recalls for fast switching between modes/slow motion/profiles/anything really, which gives a lot of speed to this camera.
Let's not forget that the a7 III is a 3-4 years old camera AND people still buy it, because it's sooooo good.
What about battery life? It's super important
Fuji batteries cost more than sony's and last half as much.
Fuji lenses have a nice build but they cost much much more with worse autofocus.
Fuji xt4 is a great camera, with awesome specs and lenses
Tested fuji, and even tho it's better in some areas than the a7 III, i think overall, the sony is a more reliable camera, with better features, and for me personally works better.
Both companies are doing a great job at delivering beatiful cameras, ans you cannot go wrong choosing either.
