Can't we just appreciate the fact that while Canon and Nikon were trying to anticipate and one-up eachother *just enough* to beat the other but *not enough* to give people what they wanted, Fujifilm and Sony just swallowed the market from under both of them? I respect both Fujifilm and Sony for giving the market what it wants, properly. (Disclosure: I use Fuji)
@@ryankwan1934 In USA Canon still has majority mirrorless market share for full frame. Sony seems to have conquered Europe though. And Fujifilm absolutely gutted Nikon's APS-C market share (Nikon used to be #1 in APS-C)
@@Vinterloft To be fair, I honestly don't see why one would choose Fuji over a Nikon D500, except if you care about the mirrorless part. Image Quality of the D500 and the autofocus are still superior to the XT4
@@Eikenhorst Nikon doesn't have good lineup of dx lenses, and using full frame glass on a crop sensor usually means you're paying more money or carrying a lot of extra weight. Plus, the nikon non-telephoto professional full frame zoom lenses end up being an awkward range on a crop sensor But yeah, a d500 is probably better if you're a professional wildlife or sports photographer.
@@Eikenhorst To each their own, but I have to disagree there. I carried around the monster Nikon with a huge heavy glob of wide angle glass on the front for years and it was tiring and not fun to use. The autofocus also was horrible compared to nearly everything else out there. Replaced it with a Sony mirrorless setup that is a fraction of the size and weight and does a phenomenal job. Autofocus is worlds better as well. Have also used Fuji and loved it by comparison too. Just ended up with Sony for the FF sensor. ;)
@@viketsomeyase2004 Def don't feel jealous. What if they get the system and they find that it doesn't suit their shooting needs/wants/style. Well now they have to sell a very expensive system and buy into a new system that will fit their life better. This is why I always tell beginners to go with the cheapest system (within reason) that they can find. Because reviews can only tell you so much about what you need in a camera system. You won't know for sure if it's for you until you get shooting. No shade if you can afford the time/money/effort to swap camera systems easily should you not enjoy what you bought initially. I started on Fuji and my needs/wants were drastically different to what Fuji offered. So it was a lot of time and energy spent selling and buying new systems after shooting for a while and determining through experience what my needs were. But if I wasn't able to afford that, I would have been stuck with a camera I didn't like, and I may have even given up photography altogether if it was too difficult to change systems for me.(or worse I could have ended up on Sony) :D Most flagships are more than the majority of shooters will ever need anyways. By starting on a system without all the bells and whistles to distract you, you have the potential to learn your fundamentals and build your foundations a lot quicker than someone like me who started with a really fancy system and spent half my time googling what the menu settings were and why my camera was doing something I didn't mean to make it do. The main takeaway here is that your first camera gets you shooting. And if you are doing that then you are on the right path.
My first camera was a crappy canon t3i, I went and got the fuji xt-2 when it came out and I still cant put it down. Like he said in the review, it just feels and looks so good its almost addicting. I'm a little torn at this point because I do want to start getting more professional and i've really been thinking about a full frame system. It's so hard to decide on which route to take.
I'm a Sony Sales Representative that shoots Fuji. I love my Fuji system and use it professionally. The sensor DR is so good these days that FF is pretty much losing its grip in terms of advantageous. Does that mean there is no market for a FF system? Not at all. It's still there! But for many shooters who bite the marketing they don't understand what they want to do and how to do it. Can I shoot great portraits with an APSC? Yes, with a FF obviously, at what cost though? The difference is just some setting changes and that changes depending on lighting situation. I'm a big APSC advocate. I don't see myself needing FF but if I did it would be Sony. Sony dominates with reason but I don't agree with the "If you get into FF you'll easily get into the S and R" reasoning because R series requires a HEAVY investment in glass and post power. The S? It's not as practical as it's said. To sum, If Sony would take APSC seriously they would easily give Fuji a scare. But FF is something that more and more is sold as a all in one system and as I said before that's quickly closing with the advancements in technology. I Still sell shit tons of Sony gear and that mainly has to do with how Fuji is perceived and not actual value.
That is funny. I am also a Sony sales representative at the camera department. I sold a lot of Sony and I recommend it to many people, I also got my self a Sony A6000. But I switched to FujiFilm, because I think it is the btter APSC option and I want my kit as small as possible. Fujifilm X-T3 with the 18MM F2/35MM F1.4 fits nicely in my every day carry bag.
Hear hear! I shoot awesome portraits with my x-t3 and the 90f2 and the 50f1. The color rendering and the sharpness is great! And the funny or sad thing is that i see lots of photographers with expensive body’s and ass cheap ass possible wide diafragma lenses because of bokeh…..
When he was a lawyer, Lincoln won a lot of cases by "granting" the opposition their point. It gained him credibility in the eyes of the jury and made them more receptive to the points he did not concede.
As an A7iii owner, if for some reason all of my gear disappeared overnight I'd switch to Fuji I think. However once you're invested in a system it's hard to change - and as Jordan said there's still lots of room to grow with Sony!
@@acidtears That's a completely different platform. You can't "grow" into a GFX camera from an X series camera, as they use completely different lens systems.
Honestly, I have an x-t4 and I'm thinking of going the other way. Ya, I might save 1.5-2k on a camera body, but 1.5 stops of extra light on the sensor is a big deal. To make up for that with the lens is just plain expensive. To get an f/1.2 or f/1.4 lens in the Fuji APS-c ecosystem is pricey, but there are plenty of f/1.4 or f/1.8 options in the full frame ecosystems. Even if they're 2/3 of a stop slower, the bigger sensor more than makes up for it, and those lenses are more affordable. Plus adapting vintage lenses doesn't need an expensive adapter that, more often than not, degrades the IQ. I love the tactile feeling of my x-t4. It's a huge pleasure to use, but I don't think it's a good long-term choice.
@@ceejaicuenza That's no longer true. At launch the R5 appears to have been measuring temperature to detect overheating then used a timer to define the 'recovery' time. With the more recent firmware, it's taking ambient temperature into account for the recovery time to a greater degree.
I now shoot exclusively with x-t4, switched from Nikon full frame after years because i really liked the smaller form factor for travelling. There is a slight image quality loss going to aps-c and the fuji files are a bit harder to work with in lightroom. That being said, I wouldn’t go back. They nailed it with the x-t4, it is in my opinion the best all around camera, especially for travel.
@@BeachVolleyB Yeah, it would depend on the lens, and what you value, but perhaps you're right. Though, the Sony A7C comes with a great kit lens, the 28-60mm, which weighs just 167g. For a nifty 50, the Samyang f1.8 45mm is 162g, and the Sony Zeiss f2.8 35mm is 120g. If you wanted to go as small as possible, the Samyang 35mm f2.8 is 85g. The zooms are heavier but i wouldn't say crazily so considering the apature. the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 zoom is 550g, (which is less than the fujifilm equivalent 16-55mm f/2.8 at 655g) The Tamron 28-200mm 2.8-5.6 superzoom is 575g. So, depends what you want and value, but there are some relatively light small lenses for the sony ef mount.
I’d go for the X-t4, most people won’t notice or even understand the difference between a full frame and crop sensor, most won’t care either. You can get great photos with both these cameras as well as the majority of cameras on the market at this time, but the way the Fuji operates and it’s looks make it stand out between the two in this comparison.
If the most of the people don’t understand the difference, then they these people will be happy with an iPhone 12 pro as well. Honestly the latest Iphones are fantastic
Just youtube search you can get different Fullfame vs crop easyly. If pp love about fuji camera look, fujj simulation just buy fuji. Buy a73 if you care bokeh, lowlight , rawfile. A73+tamron 28-75 F2.8 is very good deal. You cant get anything like this. There is no 16-50 f 1.8 on any crop system.
@illusioner. _ i think you misunderstood me, i commented to the original comment, which was arguing that there ist not much difference between full frame and APSC. I have already a A7III
@@richrollin4867 significant seems like an overstatement. Yes sure it does offer some advantages, but especially with landscape where you shoot at like f5.6/f8 you will only really see the difference when you max out the dynamic range. And in these situations, even the A7 might not be enough so you have to stack frames anyway.
Both are fantastic cameras! I have X-T4 and I love it, but the a7III would have been a great choice, too. It is the photos and videos we shoot with these great cameras that really matter.
Imagine if the X-T4 had Sony's autofocus system. Would be an absolute beast. My one gripe about it is how unreliable the autofocus is for video. I stupidly shot a music video all in af and at least half the clips were ruined by it going out of focus or hunting.
@@janolovec988 yeah I do that stuff now, but I still don't feel comfortable risking it for a music video. I used mf for the last one I shot and it turned out way better since I didn't have to throw anything out. It would be nice to not have to do zone locking and stuff like that just to get it to where you can trust it, though.
I own both systems. For general shooting and experience..XT-4. For action eye autofocus and landscape A7RIV. I took the XT-4 with 16-55 f 2.8 and A7RIV with 24-70GM to my grandson’s first birthday. The eye autofocus on the XT-4 was not even close. I quickly switched to the A7RIV and 24-70 gm. The advantage of the Fuji is user experience and the great IBIS. If the eye autofocus ever comes even close, I could go to one system. The autofocus is the rate limiting step on this system for me.
Wouldn't the frustration of missing easy shots be included in "user experience"? That would be a huge negative experience in my book, enough for me to skip the camera entirely.
@@BlueBomberTurbo I've tried to like Sony cameras and I simply can't get along with them. Every time I've tried to use one I have been frustrated to the point of walking away. They have a serious UI problem. Fujifilm has a much more intuitive UI in general. So for me, despite the inferior eye/face tracking on the Fuji bodies I'm still much happier with my X-T3 than any Sony camera that I've ever tried to use... and I've tried several times. If I find the basic functions difficult to use, I will be missing more shots. This is just my experience. I'm sure there are many Sony shooters who have their cameras figured out and they work great.
@@domlabr Hmmm, never had an issue, and I have a history of Sony cameras going back to the NEX-6, with the terrible NEX interface. But for me, the performance of the camera in use rose well above the interface. If you think Sony's Alpha interface is bad, try an NEX camera. Or worse yet, an Olympus! 0.o
I had the A7iii and while it is a fantastic camera, there was always something missing when I used it. I am not going to talk about glass, because good glass is always expensive, no matter the brand or size. I now have an XT-4, paired it with the 16-55mm f2.8 Fuji lens. This is an amazing kit. One thing I have to say - Fuji has style and character!
I have considered Fuji, but their modern design prime lenses (weathersealed and quick focus) are only f2.0. the faster 1.4 lenses are generally quite old school slow focusing. I went the Sony route because I could get cheap 1.8 third party lenses that are excellent, and I get superb autofocus and they are still cheaper than the Fuji 1.4 options.
Coming from a Nikon full frame system, now Fuji has get I’m falling again in love with photography, using the xt-4. And yes, the results from camera jpeg are really amazing.
It really is telling how many Fuji users are former Nikon users. Doesn't take much to identify why, they used to make the best APS-C cameras, now they don't, Fuji does.
I currently have a full frame Nikon and I'm trying to decide which of these two cameras to choose, does going back to a crop sensor hurt as much as I think it will? I'm struggling to let go of my full frame dependency
Well, i tested canon, sony and nikon and went with the Fuji😂😂😂. Love it and I don’t miss full frame one bit. As long as people enjoy their cameras, they could be potato cams and still crate astounding photos. It’s about passion and composition, more than it’s about gear.
But then you will have people argue their Potato cam is better than the other guy’s Yam Cam. Then the Carrot Cam fans get in on it, and we all end up with a nice roast dinner with veg.
After doing a lot of research for my next camera, my options came for these two. I went with Fuji X-T4. There are better cameras in the market, but this was the best for my requirements.
@@raczyk I use for videography. You are right, compared to Sony and Canon, X-T4 sometimes have auto focus issues. Sony a7iv is out. If it's within your budget, I recommend you buy that.
Returned my Z5 and tryed xt4. Unbelievable performence from a apsc sensor. It clearly beats Z5 in all situations. Xt4 has superior autofocusing performence low light and high iso performence than Z5. Really enjoy the XT4.
Uh, yeah, Fujifilm 100%. I have the XT-4 and use it 90% for video on a daily basis. Run a whole production company off this bad boy. It's never done me wrong.
You guys! I had so much fun watching you "battle" over the two cameras! I'm a Fuji guy (having migrated almost 10 years ago from Canon), but that's not important. How you handled this battle is! Congrats, super fun and funny! Cheers from Rio!
I was choosing between the X-T3 and A7 III for my first "real" camera back in 2018 and the price of the lens ecosystem across the board won me over. The fact that they regularly do firmware updates for the latest and greatest features counts for something too. That being said, I feel like even Sony's old autofocus algorithms on the RX100 are better than they are on the Fuji (at least the X-T3), as I shoot a ton of multicam content for work and use a mix of RX100 and Z-V1 cameras. I've thankfully never really missed important shots, but when I was filming social content for a brand at World's Strongest Man a few months back, there were a few scenes that were just too complex for the X-T3 that I know even the RX-100 VII would've had no issues with. Switched to manual focus on the fly and got what I needed, but not ideal. Never really saw a difference with similar lenses for photography between (good) APSC and full-frame, just usability and features between bodies. I shoot video for sports, food, and products for a living and do a ton of portraits on my own time and my only real request on something like the X-H2 is better AF. (Aside from a better codec, 4k120, blah blah. 12mp sensor if we're making wishlists.) If not...I hope Sony decides to ship Jordan an FX3 ASAP. Love your stuff guys. Been following you since the other channel and the dynamic works incredibly well, pandemic or not.
As far as weather sealing, I can confirm Fuji has the lead. I had my XT2 during a hard mountain rain storm in Colorado and shot through all of it with zero issues and zero protection for it. Later I switched to a Sony A7iii for the full frame look, and took on a hiking trip during the winter where it was dropped in snow. After that it gave me an error message the rest of the day and sometimes it comes on in light rain. The Fujifilm is incredible in terms of weather sealing. I wish Sony would have added more into the a7iii body, for a semi pro body it is disappointing that I have to worry about it if the clouds go dark.
Started my journey in photography with the Sony A7III...switched off to the XT-4. Never looked back. Just a more complete package for me. I totally understand the hype with the full frame, and I do miss it sometimes. But the XT-4 can use all of the features of the APS-C to its full potential. I'm in love with the small beast.
I've run Sony and Fuji with full complement of lenses for about 3 years. Before that, I was unreformed Fuji fan since X-E1 (2013?). And yet, I sold my last Fuji lens last week(from 11), continuing with Sony. That tells you which system I think is better. Yet, a day after I sold last Fuji lens, I ordered X100V, to warm up my heart when I want those colours! :)
@@MercUndGut Exactly this was the reason why I choose the a6400, The 70-350 mm is a brilliant lens was a brilliant focal lengths. On Fuji there is only 100-400 which is too expansive and heavy
Jordan, Chris is obviously feeling better after this video, and all kidding aside that's a good thing. I am a Fuji shooter and love the cameras and glass but honestly wasn't sure which camera was better at the end of the video. I guess it comes down to what specific needs you have. Both are excellent in different ways.
It is very hard to pick which camera is "the best". Many offerings are excellent in many areas. It comes down to personal preference and if one of them has that one feature you need.
I'm deeply invested into and very happy with my XF mount cameras & lenses for every reason Chris gives. However, Jordan is right about the quality of the Sony a7 III sensor. I know how to make my Fuji's turn out good results, but once I figured out how to use the Sony (and maybe upgraded my computer to accommodate the Sony's larger file size?), I bet I'd be happy with the Sony a7 III too. However, if I make a format move, it will be to the GFX 100S.
I have loved my Fuji XT-1 for so many years now and I ALMOST switched to the Sony A7iii - so glad I found this first. I'll be buying the XT-4 and continuing on my love affair with Fuji. It's funny to me that so many photographers totally overlook Fuji because of the crop sensor - for intimate portraits (what I do), it's fucking brilliant. I only ever want a full frame because of FOMO...otherwise, it's not that intriguing.
I own a sony a7iii and i loved this video, i agree with both of them. But since i own a7iii so let me be a bit biased and point out the most important factor for me which is the "image quality". Because that's what matters the most to me. The xt-4 was an option for me while buying because its a great camera but full frame was the priority for me for obvious reasons.
The Sony cameras are amazing, and they're perfect for pro work. However, I appreciate how Fuji can do pro, but also you can throw a film simulation and shoot in jpeg when you're out for fun and upload them, or send it to their instant printer. Fuji XF Lenses are expensive, but they're also so far Made in Japan which is probably why
As someone that went from an xt-3 to currently a sony a7iii, I can confidently say that the sony is much better for me in regards of photography AND video, image quality is just amazing and the built quality too, I haven't missed a bit the so called "fuji colors" if any, i would say i find myself in a much easier editing process with the sony raw pictures, i think is a matter of preference, and whether or not you want full frame
This is unfortunately what I hear from users as well. The sentiment shared with the guys in the video isn't really what's reflected in real world use. Sony is still king, there's a reason everyone uses it over Fuji.
Ha ha: Nice! Great fun review! When I wanted to upgrade my Canon 70D, both the X-t3 and A7iii where on my radar. Having big hands, the ergonomics of the Sony where already a dealkiller for me. And for casual use I really like the jpegs of fuji for quickly sharing things without editing. And you can go from a very small set with the 27mm for casual use, to a more professional setup with the bigger lenses. I really like that! But yeah: The tamron zooms are awesome, and low light performance of the Sony is still better. Both are great camera's
I made the switch from Fuji (to Nikon) to Sony a couple of years ago. No regrets. Lovin me that full-frame sensor, lenses and eye-autofocus. Plus, if you need to depend on IBIS for great stills photos, then you need to go back and learn proper camera technique. IMO can't beat a Sony.
Hi Brian. I shoot wildlife handheld at times (not the stuff that flies). With longer lenses in an environment where a tripod isn't an option IBIS + lens stabilisation makes a big difference. Other genres not so much if at all. I'd be interested to know what you shoot.
@@kaneclements7761 Hi. I shoot a variety of things. Not so much wildlife (unless you consider wedding parties wildlife). My main emphasis is street art/urban photography. Jordon and the a7III won because of his last statement. XT4 is the top of the line and is pretty much the end of the road when it comes to apsc before upgrading to Full Frame whereas the a7III is just the beginning of the path to full frame and with Sony having one mount, you can even reverse back to apsc if you want to travel as light as possible but having full frame glass. lol Either way though both cameras look great but if you want to grow, go with Full Frame.
Autofocus and one mount for both full frame and cropped systems. That's why I moved to Sony A7 III and A6400. Fuji has beautiful colors and great 4K 60, but on my Wedding work, autofocus is vital.
Just to throw a spanner into the works. Fuji has, I gather, opened up their lens technology to other companies. Viltrox which makes great trio of primes reverse engineered. Rumour has it that Sigma and or Tampon are working on converting some of their glass to Fuji. That will make life really interesting. I'm not a Sony fan, not because their cameras don't have merit. Rather over many decades I've bough a variety of Sony gear not just cameras and I've never had one that I enjoyed using or fulfilled the promise of the specs. If all my Fuji gear got stolen and my needs changed I'd happily look at other systems. In photography on digital over twenty odd years I'm on my fourth brand so I'd say I'm brand agnostic rather than a fanboy. Really pleased with my kit, though if it could speak it would probably prefer a more skilled owner. Anyway a great episode. Good to see Chris is getting back on form. I particularly like the way two friends can joust in an informed and very amusing way. Nothing puts me off like YTer's who are too shout or up themselves. Which obviously doesn't apply two guys.

Sony was waiting for their new processor architecture (1st new one in 8 years), which launched in the A7S III, giving it its superior video performance, and continues in the A1, adding exceptional video AND photo performance due to the stacked sensor. Stated to be 8x faster than the previous processor. Expect to see it across the board in new launches, along with significantly upgraded video specs, AF performance, and burst speeds/buffer lengths.
@@bachaabdou4433 Sony did what I was asking, it just took a little longer than I expected. Now, let's put an X-T4 up against an a7 IV. The X-T4 may be better than the a7 III for video, but the a7 III is still an impressive video camera in its own right.
great review. i had both bodies and just sold my entire Sony kit as i hated color science on A7III. Im much happier with my silver X-T3 and X-T4 bodies. Also fuji...it just looks great especially in silver.
I'm glad I switched from Nikon to Fuji, loving my XT3. Probably not going to wait out to upgrade till the XT5 comes out though I really want that proper tilt-y screen. For me travel size is also a benefit and smaller sensors come with smaller lenses too (I know, I know aperture is also effected by crop factor, not only the focal length)!
3:47 Maybe they have done a lot to update their autofocus, but one of the reasons I returned my X-T4 (there were others like a won't power on problem and ongoing mediocre raw file support in Adobe LR) was also because of the lackluster single point AF accuracy (compared to the king of single point AF-S auto focus accuracy, my Z5 and Z7). I'm not a Nikon fanboy and I've owned and enjoyed several Fuji cameras as well as Panasonic, Olympus and Sony but I have to say, out of all the cameras I've owned the Nikon Z7 (and now a Z5) have been the cameras that made me the most content overall. Nikon doesn't get enough credit. I think Sony deserves a lot of credit for all the improvements they've been making. 5:49 I agree with that. It's an outstanding image sensor.
I had both and stuck with the Fuji. Much better video quality with the 10 bit and DCI 4k. Drawbacks to both, and both fantastic cameras, but I'm happy with the Fuji. Love Fuji lenses, colors, and operation. And the switch between photo video is *fantastic*.
If they were both sitting on a table and you had to grab one to use for the rest of your life, to shoot everything, would you still choose the Fuji? I’m considering going back to Fuji but I love the Sony ecosystem and can’t make up my mind between the a7iii or the xt4

I dont have XT-4 but using XT-3. My friend has a A7 III so I got the chance to experienced it. The Sony's AF is crazy, the sharpness, especially from a mirrorless user is more than crisp, amazing camera. But I'm still all in my Fuji. It has always been fun to shoot fuji and the A7 III did not give me such joy feeling that day I tried it. My photos mainly go to website, Facebook and Instagram so the extra sharpness doesn't really matter to me. Also I love Fuji's chrome look. So I think the choice between these 2 also depend on what you would use your photos for. If my work involves printing my photos on canvas or such, I would definitely go full-frame, go Sony.
I don’t always agree with you guys....but I always think you information is very relevant accurate and presented with charm and humor. As a Fuji shooter for several years now I am biased. I mostly use the GFX for landscape and travel but I love to carry the XT4 as back up and for longer reach. Also perfect around town. I have been toying with the idea of deeping back into FF and the A7III is attractive as a reliable workhorse and very good price point. Wish Sony had an upgraded version with better menus and better ease of use overall
Great video! I am with Jordan on this one. I absolutely love my XT-3. And invested into Fuji lenses over time. After doing my first professional video shoot indoors a few days back, I realized the APS-C sensor just isn't up for the job. At F8 the noise level gets too high in dimly lit indoor spaces. And at this point all of the slick features of XT4 become completely irrelevant. Chris, What good is the 30 FPS shutter on an XT-4, if the camera is starving for light?! I guess comparing full frame cameras to cropped, is apples to oranges, and isn’t really fair. I am planning to sell all of my Fuji gear and invest into full frame ecosystem. I am planning to upgrade to A7Siii down the line when I can afford it. But can still use the same lenses. For people shooting outside, in well lit environments - Fuji is a fantastic camera. I wish they made a FF camera as well
This is really tough for the A7iii to compete. If you treat all the sections they compare with the same weight, xt4 definitely blows A7iii out of the water. But if you prefer to have shallower depth of field while not care about the look of the body too much, you weigh and choose differently. The A7iii was too old to compete against the EOS R and Z6 two years ago in the functions and user friendliness, as their previous video shows
I considered all of these options including XT4, A7III and finally invested into Sony A7RIII for its megapixels, small weight body for easy portability, Autofocus & Lowlight capabilities but most importantly Lens options. Also while I have seen many comments on Sony's interface... I find it extremely customizable & user friendly...coming from a DSLR I like using EVF & frankly it's so intuitive that all the adjustments are possible without lowering the camera...all this within a month of usage...Of course I am mostly into still photography.
I use primarily Fuji cameras, but one thing you seem to have forgotten that Sony does better guys: it keeps a natural angle of view of various old manual lenses. This is one of the reasons I am considering getting either a Sony body or a Nikon Z one.
When I have thought about jumping from Nikon, I have always considered Fuji and not Sony. Fuji's cameras are designed beautifully and differently from Sony and Nikon. If I want to move to another system or add a second one, why not change things up?
Fujifilm is the king of APS-C with a fantastic lineup of APS-C lenses. Sony started strongly with APS-C lenses for mirrorless cameras in 2010 but after the unpredicted great success of the first generation of a7 series of cameras in 2013, Sony was rightly focused more on full frame lenses and put an end to the full frame dSLR cameras market. The full frame cameras is maybe the only sector of Sony that is very successful and very profitable. Fujifilm instead of competing to the very popular but somehow saturated full frame market, preferred the medium format market and succeeded to drop the price of medium format cameras close to that of best full frame cameras.
Fuji person here testing an A7iii for the AF & family shots. I’ve owned a lot of Fuji bodies (own 3 currently) and think the A7iii feels as, or more, robust than all of them. A7iii also smaller than I expected. I haven’t compared specs but it feels smaller than my X-H1. The sticky Sony AF is awesome.. but..but.. I am spending a LOT more time editing images to taste with the Sony. This may be a reason it goes back. I have slightly less sharp images from my X100V (still sharp) that look WAY better than Sony images SOOC or where I can get them to w/ LR.
@@Archonsx they look like great cameras but nobody needs 4k video for RUclips or 10+ fps burst for for most genres of photography. Most people should just use their phone and photography enthusiasts/professionals not selling giant prints should save money and just buy older Canon and Nikon systems that all the rich people are selling off to upgrade go mirrorless
@@jillianangell2570 indeed 4k is overrated. Also it depends on what you shoot. I shoot very much fast moving stuff like friends on bikes, skateboards and all that action stuff. So 15fps is really helpful on the xt4. But its just extra luxurious no neccesarity. I bet if i had 5fps i could do it to.. But it just maybe needs more takes. Sometimes this is possible but sometimes a trick is so hard and its not always an option to try it more times. So yes if you don't do that kind of stuff its pretty much useless lol
Currently thinking of switching to Mirrorless from my DSLR and all signs point to the XT4, and another big one that I wished you would have discussed is the overall size and compactness of the lenses. Outdoor shooting is all fun and games, until you have to hike with heavy full frame glass ;)
For me the biggest problem with Fuji (after almost 2 years with it) is that their lenses are always great at something and bad at something else. You can either have small, WR and fast autofocus, OR you can have great image quality and f1.4 old lenses. Their pro zooms are good but not exceptional, while FE gets lenses which are about the same size, weight and price. Sony FE 20/1.8 or 35/1.8 also have compromises, but they are much less apparent and seem to be pretty close to perfect compromises. Another thing is the X-Trans sensor. There are ways and software to handle it properly, but none of that has all the functionality of lightroom yet (and C1 is even much more expensive). As much as Fuji makes JPG shooting easier, it makes RAW shooting more cumbersome as it limits software and/or requires extra steps to get the best out of them. The ISO comparison is also tricky. Fact is, with most (all?) lenses at the same aperture and shutter speed (which is what I choose in practice) the Fuji picks and needs a higher ISO for the same exposure. It's not cheating as ISO is not one standard, but the difference between Sony FE and Fuji X is MORE than 1 stop, not less than 1 stop which is said and shown pretty much everywhere by just comparing at same ISO settings. The ergonomics are a very personal thing. I never really got into the manual dials on Fuji, most of the time preferring auto ISO with minimum SS. Love aperture on the lens, but more and more FE lenses get that too. Sony FE is far from perfect of course, but I don't have long time experience with it to talk about yet.
Regardless of outcome, great video idea! Looking forward to the XH2 and A7IV, those will be the real contenders. My main reason for going Sony is truly the Tamron 2.8's price-points.
The XT4 rocks but sometimes I love the look of a full frame sensor, especially on long prime lens such as a 135mm F2, u just can’t get that some look an APSc, I think both systems have there place though. The Fuji 56mm f1.2 is gorgeous and easily a great alternate to the full frame 85mm f1.8, so it all really depends on how you shoot.
I shoot both Sony and Fuji, the user experience with Sony is very dispassionate and is more of a result specific cameras, Fuji makes me shoot way more due to the enjoyment of the experience and the colours of the pictures.
I would gladly take either of the two. Both are great cameras. If I had to buy one, it would be the X-T4 because I already own Fujifilm lenses. I wish I had the budget to upgrade.
I had the Fuji system for 4 years and loved it, however I moved to Sony A7R3 as I wanted full frame, more Megapixels and better autofocus. I do wish the Fuji X series had been based on full frame as you can’t beat the usability and tactile experience from Fuji.
@@tpiorkowski it's not actually a problem with the sensor it's more a problem with processing the sensor. Since the sensor contains even more green cells it has to guess more to fill in the gaps. This requires a lot of processing and is the reason fuji medium format camery use traditional bayer sensors instead of x trans. Fuji is probably focusing on making medium format more affordable instead of full frame as to not cannibalise their lineup.
@illusioner. _ Fuji is now demonstrating how a medium format sensor can fit into the body of a full frame camera with the GFX 100S (although still consderably more expensive than full frame) but Sony is actually demonstrating that you can fit a full frame sensor into the body of an APS-C camera, with the Sony a7C and it is doing it at a competitive price with the APS-C cameras. In my point of view, if you can have a small and light camera with a full frame sensor in it, the APS-C format is compromised and should go down in price into the realm of the micro 4/3 old territory (that territory is now going down with Olympus). The same will happen with medium format sensors in full frame bodies and the full frame cameras will have to go down to the price range of many of the current APS-C cameras.
Have to do this again!!! I would say, despite the highly technical knowledge, it was entertaining! XT3 shooter and the XT4 is being seen as my second body in a very near future...check that price!!! Well done, brilliant presentation and production as well. Cheers

Glad to see Chris feeling better. I myself went from FF to APSC (Sony a7s to FUJIFILM X-H1). Thanks for the video, you guys know how to give us a good laugh 😆
@@yoginwidhi6676 3 words: 4k, IBIS, CHEAP 😜 Seriously I got tired of throwing away so much shaky footage. 1080p was showing its age when I shot from far. Up close the clean 1080p read out from the a7s it's still amazing and useable even in 2021. But anything away from 3 meters looked pixelated and blurred. Mind you I sometimes pixel peep in videos. Another added reason; Fuji vs Sony Colors = yes there is a huge difference. There are other reasons here and there (focusing, cheap lens with Weather Resistance, Build quality), but just for the 4k Video upgrade, IBIS and particularly the old X-H1 can be found for cheap used. It was a NO Brainer.
Who else the Proud owners of xt series.... this content makes us feel good 😀🙌🏻📸 happy shooting. The major factor for purchasing apsc are its size (lenses) & price wise. Way affordable
Haha just when I got my a7iii yesterday. Coming from a sony a6000, this is an amazing upgrade. I ain't fazed by the outcome. Both cams are great rn but I still feel like Sony is ahead in terms of innovating. Makes more sense to invest in sony for the future.
@@mintymus buddy relax. I just got both an a6600 and a7iii. Full frame, Autofocus, battery life, reliability, future proofing, so many reasons as to why sony is best selling in a lot of different camera price points. Ease of use is irrelevant since everyone has to start somewhere. I just happen to start with Sony so menus and operating the camera is easy to me now. And the color science argument is irrelevant as well for someone like me who edits raw pictures and color grades my own videos. Also, can't deny that the used market for sony lenses and accessories is a lot better (in my city at least) since more people own sony cameras. I'm not saying that fuji is bad. Just saying that I see more innovations with sony so I feel confident in my investment. Crazy to think though that fuji's xt4 finally competes with a 3yr old camera from sony lol.

Thank you Chris and Jordan for the good laugh. I like this format. You have just demonstrated that a camera review doesn't have to be boring. Great job !
What about customizable buttons? I absolutely love my a7 III for having so many buttons, and 90% of them customizable, also i can save 10 picture profiles which can be modified just like any fuji film simulation a7 III has 2 memory recalls for fast switching between modes/slow motion/profiles/anything really, which gives a lot of speed to this camera. Let's not forget that the a7 III is a 3-4 years old camera AND people still buy it, because it's sooooo good. What about battery life? It's super important Fuji batteries cost more than sony's and last half as much. Fuji lenses have a nice build but they cost much much more with worse autofocus. Fuji xt4 is a great camera, with awesome specs and lenses Tested fuji, and even tho it's better in some areas than the a7 III, i think overall, the sony is a more reliable camera, with better features, and for me personally works better. Both companies are doing a great job at delivering beatiful cameras, ans you cannot go wrong choosing either.
I just bought a XT4. Very happy with both still and video performance. Eye AF is fine. The only issue I have is with IBIS. When I put on any unstablized prime lens on XT4, with IBIS and DIS on, I got jerky images when I panned slowly. I guess it's IBIS trying to compensate for camera movement. However, when I put on the 18-55 OIS lens, I got gimbal-like smoothnes in the footage. So I now only use OIS lenses for shooting handheld video.
Didn't CIPA have Canon as the largest share of the mirrorless market by a large margin in 2021?
@@ryankwan1934 In USA Canon still has majority mirrorless market share for full frame. Sony seems to have conquered Europe though. And Fujifilm absolutely gutted Nikon's APS-C market share (Nikon used to be #1 in APS-C)

To each their own, but I have to disagree there.
Just ended up with Sony for the FF sensor. ;)

Sheesh .. i feel so jealous. Got a nikon d3500 for my first.. fuji system was out of my budget.
Do you use it?
But if I wasn't able to afford that, I would have been stuck with a camera I didn't like, and I may have even given up photography altogether if it was too difficult to change systems for me.(or worse I could have ended up on Sony) :D
Most flagships are more than the majority of shooters will ever need anyways.
It's so hard to decide on which route to take.
x-t4 at first? a bit expensive dont u think?
This review format is ultra Innovative!, Never seen this back and forth to review a product!. Great format!
Underrated comment, thanks for sharing your thoughts

Out of interest, which lenses did you go for and how do they compare to your Nikon fx glass?
The Sony A7C is the same price, yet both smaller than the x-t4 and full frame, so i'd argue its a better travel camera due to being a smaller size.

@@BeachVolleyB Yeah, it would depend on the lens, and what you value, but perhaps you're right.
Though, the Sony A7C comes with a great kit lens, the 28-60mm, which weighs just 167g.

You can get great photos with both these cameras as well as the majority of cameras on the market at this time, but the way the Fuji operates and it’s looks make it stand out between the two in this comparison.

Love the chemistry fellas. You two could have a water vs ice comparison and make it entertaining to watch.

My 2 favorite camera 😊 but i sold my A7iii recently and save the XT4 😊
I can confirm too, I have a xpro3 used the whole year on my side not in the bag. In every rain and snow
When the XT5 and a7iv come out this needs to be done again
I've run Sony and Fuji with full complement of lenses for about 3 years. Before that, I was unreformed Fuji fan since X-E1 (2013?).
And yet, I sold my last Fuji lens last week(from 11), continuing with Sony. That tells you which system I think is better.
Yet, a day after I sold last Fuji lens, I ordered X100V, to warm up my heart when I want those colours! :)
-30°C is a great temperature for some Pentax shooting!
I shoot with an A7III and a XT-3 so apparently I’m partial to numbers rather than brands.
I have an A7III and I almost bought an XT3, but decided in the last second for a A6400. Swapping lenses is also really helpful.
@@turgayak2047 I think that's the way to go. You get the extra distance on your tele lenses, too.
@@MercUndGut Exactly this was the reason why I choose the a6400, The 70-350 mm is a brilliant lens was a brilliant focal lengths. On Fuji there is only 100-400 which is too expansive and heavy
@Turgay Now Fuji has a compact 70-300 for the crop sensor.
@@ridgefield Not yet, it will come at some time soonish, but so far it only has a 55-200.
I find Fuji give a warmer tone over a cooler tone in Sony, is this also your reason?
I am genuinely waiting for this.
I own a sony a7iii and i loved this video, i agree with both of them. But since i own a7iii so let me be a bit biased and point out the most important factor for me which is the "image quality". Because that's what matters the most to me.
The xt-4 was an option for me while buying because its a great camera but full frame was the priority for me for obvious reasons.
i am not interested in those cameras, but i like hearing them talk about them.
haha
Same!
Not to mention the lenses can withstand a bomb and still function
As someone that went from an xt-3 to currently a sony a7iii, I can confidently say that the sony is much better for me in regards of photography AND video, image quality is just amazing and the built quality too, I haven't missed a bit the so called "fuji colors" if any, i would say i find myself in a much easier editing process with the sony raw pictures, i think is a matter of preference, and whether or not you want full frame
This is unfortunately what I hear from users as well. The sentiment shared with the guys in the video isn't really what's reflected in real world use. Sony is still king, there's a reason everyone uses it over Fuji.
I’m deciding if I should swap from my xt3 to an a7iii atm :/
I shoot quite a few artists and a few festivals. But I also shoot weddings, engagements, and some family and confirmation stuff. Basically anyone that will pay me.
I don't understand why your channel has so few subscribers. I love the self irony and humor you put into these videos. I think it must be a reflection of the joy you two have together during the recordings.

This was really fun to watch. You‘ve been my go to camera channel for a while and this video shows why. The chemistry in your videos is so nice and the information is presented very well.
Kudos for this line, perfect for Valentines Day: The beauty of mine

transcendent beauty of all.
Autofocus and one mount for both full frame and cropped systems. That's why I moved to Sony A7 III and A6400. Fuji has beautiful colors and great 4K 60, but on my Wedding work, autofocus is vital.
"Your battery is just square and boring" 😂😂😂😂 The ultimate insult 👌
Lol yes that got me too!
An Ibis is also a type of bird, if anyone cares to know... Really enjoyed this video!
I shoot with my A7III and X-Pro3. And man do I really wish Fuji had more lens options (and would also update their primes)
Samyang/ Rokinon has some good ones. Namely the 135mm F2 is second to none, not even the Zeiss.

As a person with Olympus and Lumix cameras, I don't really have a dog in this fight.
So, the fact that this is even close really should light a fire under Sony to put out an a7 IV soon with video specs more equivalent to the X-T4.
Which you think should happen but simply won't. The japanese won't compete amongst themselves for the benefit of the rest of the world. It's abvious by this point they have a secret agreement.
@@bachaabdou4433 I don't think that's true. Sony will catch up on video.
I think the recent chip shortage has also delayed the a7 IV launch.
Sony 24-70mm f2.8 G master costs well over $2000 while fuji 16-55 can be purchased for $900 quite often. even at full retail Fuji is half of the price of Sony version.
Also fuji...it just looks great especially in silver.
Thank you I was coming in here to actually look for color science and shit that actually matters
I got this camera due to the video quality! I love fuji for video
If they were both sitting on a table and you had to grab one to use for the rest of your life, to shoot everything, would you still choose the Fuji? I’m considering going back to Fuji but I love the Sony ecosystem and can’t make up my mind between the a7iii or the xt4
This is the best review channel on her by far. Love the fun and camaraderie you guys bring to your videos. 👍🏼
Wish fujifilm had more lens selection/ refreshed there lenses.
The af in the f1.4 glass is needing it.
I definitely agree. The prices they ask for those lenses are definitely too high especially compared to Sony. The f2’s are excellent at least.
@@tonymontiel3274 more then excellent and well priced. And if you really need bokeh take al longer lens! In the studio i never shoot at full open diafragma.

Sony lenses are way more expensive and ridiculously overprized.
That's the main reason i switched from Sony to Fuji. And the size + weight.
more yes..better..NO
@@topperharley7142 That depends alot on what you want. Fuji 23/1.4 is more expensive than FE 35/1.8. Fuji 50-140/2.8 is more expensive than Tamron 70-180/2.8. Fuji has better build but worse technicals in those examples.
Glad you're doing better, Chris!
I wish they made a FF camera as well
Why not go with Fuji’s medium format line
If I want to move to another system or add a second one, why not change things up?
also went from Nikon DSLR to Fuji mirrorless. The JPEGS sold me on the Fuji.
Very nice and entertaining format!
Definitely waiting that on the rumored FX3 vs A7SIII... I'll have to decide weather to quickly resell mine
Well both great cameras that I can’t afford......
Honestly camera capabilities (and prices) have ballooned. These cameras are probably overkill for most people
@@jillianangell2570 those camera are overvalued and offer very little value
This is the true photographer's tale... No money to buy exactly what you want exactly when you want it.
I absolutely loved loved loved this video! We need a new XT5 verse a 7iv!!!❤🔥
Hey! How about A7C vs XT-4?
Fuji X-T4 all the way, what’s not to like and don’t forget the X-H2s will be with us soon and that’s an even better specification
Currently thinking of switching to Mirrorless from my DSLR and all signs point to the XT4, and another big one that I wished you would have discussed is the overall size and compactness of the lenses. Outdoor shooting is all fun and games, until you have to hike with heavy full frame glass ;)
X-T5 is out now 😁
F4 lens exist you know? Or even 5.6 lens. People who go hiking with 2.8, 1.8 lens are stupid.
And which one you ended with?
I'm dying to looking this topic every single time in dpreview forum. Thanks you!
The XT4 rocks but sometimes I love the look of a full frame sensor, especially on long prime lens such as a 135mm F2, u just can’t get that some look an APSc,
I think both systems have there place though. The Fuji 56mm f1.2 is gorgeous and easily a great alternate to the full frame 85mm f1.8, so it all really depends on how you shoot.
Agreed. The XF 56 is the best lens I have used.
I shoot both Sony and Fuji, the user experience with Sony is very dispassionate and is more of a result specific cameras, Fuji makes me shoot way more due to the enjoyment of the experience and the colours of the pictures.
GFX 100 in combination with the XT-4 that’s my go to..
I switched from xt4 to a7siii for video. I'm thinking now to get both because I just missed it :)
It's the x trans sensor that's the problem.
@@digitalartphotographynk2447 what’s wrong with the trans processor, it captures excellent dynamic range, detail, and colors. I have no issue with it.
Cheers
I have had both cameras and the a73 is in a league of its own in terms of image quality. The price tag on the Fuji 50mm f1 is outrageous

@@yoginwidhi6676 3 words: 4k, IBIS, CHEAP 😜

Up close the clean 1080p read out from the a7s it's still amazing and useable even in 2021. But anything away from 3 meters looked pixelated and blurred. Mind you I sometimes pixel peep in videos.
Another added reason; Fuji vs Sony Colors = yes there is a huge difference.
There are other reasons here and there (focusing, cheap lens with Weather Resistance, Build quality), but just for the 4k Video upgrade, IBIS and particularly the old X-H1 can be found for cheap used. It was a NO Brainer.
