The flip screen is the MAJOR perhaps only reason why i didnt and wouldnt consider XT5. I like to close the DOOR and protect the screen. I am no vlogger, but dont want to keep worrying about the screen getting damaged with my handling of the camera while I am out and about. :D :D
haha - goes to show. The lack of floppy screen was actually the first thing that made me to switch to an X-T5. And I am a videographer! Goes to show everyone is different :)
Thanks Pete. The XT3 got me back into photography as a retired senior. Things went well , sold the XT3, bought the XT4 , zero issues, use it a lot . Also bought ,for reasons unknown , an XS20 which has become my travel camera. Just getting the hang of using primes , although I own a rarely used 23 f1.4 WR LM R & a 35 mm f2. Enjoying the 27mm f2.8 on both cameras. Great hobby, enjoying it.
I have an XT4 since 2022 and love it ! Been contemplating upgrading to XT5 and lucky this video popped up first, really helped me to “get a grip”😂 Curious to hear your take on the value proposition of upgrading to an xh2s !
Funny you should mention that - I have an XH2s right now for testing so I will most likely drop a vid on it soon. In general it depends on what you like to shoot and how large of a camera you want to carry around.
Agree with all of your points on this. For the beginner or even the advanced enthusiast and some pro's too, we really don't NEED a 40mp camera. I thought the megapixel war was over, but apparently it's still one of those shiny baubels that some folks can be easily impressed with. I mean hey, if you have the dough and you're a total gear nerd (I think we all our to an extent), then get out there and buy the XT-5! Otherwise, the XT-4 is probably the last camera that many of us will ever need. I still use my X100S as the go to walkaround camera, and while I lust over the newer X100 models that have been released since the X100S was birthed, there's really no need for me to upgrade. I'd rather buy more glass, or spend some cash on chemistry and film, to continue my analog journey. I've been shooting film since 1985, and still love it. As usual, I guess it all boils down to what our individual pursuits are with photography. But you've certainly given some sound advice here. Something I wish to do with my own channel as I grow it. You've got a new subscriber! Got to support and rep the east coast photographers too! Open invite to come down to Jersey and go walkabout!
I've been wondering about this very issue for a bit. I've been thinking that the X-T4 might be a better move up from my X-T3 because of price. And, I really don't "need" the 40 mp sensor and it's bigger files. And, I know from using the X-T3 for a few years now that I get great images from that sensor. I've always wondered about durability of flippy screens. I haven't heard anything negative, just wonder about that because of all that movement in one spot. I also was a bit worried because I thought a lot of the used copies of the X-T4 may have gotten hard use. The other problem is that I have also be eyeing up a few long lenses. That 50-140 is so tempting, but expensive. I'd like it for event, sports and wildlife photography though. Thanks for the overview. Have a great week!
Hi, i looking mi first fuji camera!! What you recommend xt4 ore xt5? I look camera for family travelling and a lot of soccer pictures with my son!!! I fink to by 23mm 1.4 and 50-140 f2.8 , the problema is the body !! Make sens xt5 o better its xt4? Thx
Thanks for the comparison, Pete. I am seriously considering adding a Fujifilm XT camera for a new experience from what my Canon R5 and RF/EF lenses offer. The X-T4 may be a better option for me. I am already used to a flip screen and definitely look forward to exploring a larger variety of "affordable" X mount Fujifilm and third-party lenses.
Thanks for this video Pete. I'm using the X-T4 semi-professionally for sports video and photography and it's fun to shoot with for many different genres. It definitely has a great balance between being a workhorse and an absolute pleasure to use. Don't think I'll ever sell it. It's truly an amazing all-rounder.
Great video Pete. The megapixel count is what I really dislike about the x-t5. I personally don't need 40 megapixels and I do miss the flippy screen. I like being able to fold the screen up for protection. For as much as fujifilm costs now, I would love the next iteration to give us options, almost like build a bear, but with the camera lol. I don't ever see that happening, but a guy can dream right?
I have 5 Fujifilm X cameras. My last purchase was the X-T4 with a battery grip. The unit drains all 3 batteries in a couple of days even when turned off ? It's the only camera that does this. Have made sure all Bluetooth etc connection are turned off...... makes no difference ? My spare backup batteries hold power for months. Can anyone suggest what else I can check? Thanks.
My biggest gripe with the ‘5’ is the lack of a substantial grip, as you touched on. I shoot with some of Fuji’s “Big Glass”, specifically the 150-600 and the 50-140, and the experience of shooting with the ‘5’ + the 150-600 is as you mentioned, unwieldy, so much so that I will often use that lens on my X-T3 with the Battery Grip. Granted it is only a partial solution as I am not able to make use of the 40MP sensor of the ‘5’ and as I do a lot of cropping in the post (even a 600mm+ will struggle to get an F-16 on full afterburner to fill the frame). If there is to be an X-T6, I would hope that Fuji will consider bringing back the grip, hell even a non-battery grip that has the size and weight of a standard battery grip would be nice. As for the Flippy-screen controversy, it never really affected me as I never purchased the ‘4’. However, I rented it for a week, but decided to pass. That said, I did like the screen cover of the ‘4’. As I also shoot with an X-Pro 3, reviewing my images through the EVF is not a problem for me, actually that controversial screen on the X-Pro 3 was a big selling point for me.
Im an aspiring photographer (still around begginner level) and i wanna shoot portraits and weddings but I'm split between the fuji xt5 and the nikon Zf. Which one should I get?
@PeteCocoPhoto True. I love the colors on the Fuji but I've been hearing everyone and their mother talking about the auto focus. So the Zf is so tempting. But I love the colors on Fuji
@@fromfiji679 Welcome to the club haha! This is the big debate always with Fuji. You might want to wait a few weeks to see how the firmware update does but in general you're better with Nikon, Canon, Sony for AF. Fuji is the best color IMO
Much appreciate your accurate and decent perspective . That will help me make a choice to decide purchasing a twin brother for my h1 I absolute love for all sort of action situations I handle on the go, as my x t20 is no longer repaired my FUJIFILM . It’s a pity that being my favourite player , they have a disappointing support service , at least in Spain, being the support service attended in Portugal for whole Iberia . I sent it one week ago , and I have been replied that they do not have pieces for this camera anymore , can’t be repaired 😢. What failed was the automatic connection to my Fuji lenses . It works however in “no lens” position with manual lenses as I have checked with mi sigma 10-20 wide angle lens with just a plastic adapter. Anyway I try to have an option at a decent price that gives me great quality in portraits … thanks so much for your input and if you have further advice , you are most than welcome and I “spend not invert in my passion” though I “work” as if I was paid … 🤦♀️😂
Thank you! Have you checked out the X-T50? Some compromises there but if you're looking for a small backup it might be the right fit. Check out my review here if you get a chance you might find it helpful: ruclips.net/video/9YHQhqd76dE/видео.html
This highly detailed and well described comparison points to the NEED for the release of an X-T6 that culls the best features from both of these cameras.
I agree on all points I bought the xt4 at a great price very happy with it couldn't see the point in updating to 40mp quality on the 4 beats every other Fuji camera it does everything I want it to well done Fuji
I love ❤️ my XT 4, yes even the flip screen following my XH 1. Images are superb, AF is good but not prefect and it feels great in the hand. Looking forward to buying another XT 4 as the price drops 😎👍
I agree on the build quality, although it is weather sealed it feels less robust than the previous generations, as far as the sensor I think fuji made a good decision with the 40mp sensor , coupled with a fast prime lens , the results are just astonishing. I think the crown is being passed to the XH series as being the flagship. Compared to my XH2s they totally have different experience, I like the manual dials and find them very useful but the stacked sensor on the XH2s is very capable especially for video
Yes, they made a conscious effort to make the X-T line not the flagship, instead of a combined X-H with dials like the previous models. Not sure if it was good or bad, but it would seem like a smart move based on their sales.
Hey Pete, thx for this interesting video! I agree with most of what you've said. As a wedding photographer the xt5 has one thing i cannot live without and thats battery life! And I guess we wouldnt have this conversation if the af were on par with sony, canon etc. But its not, so yeah i guess for many people the xt4 is a really god option! By the way: i droped my xt5 this year on concrete, lens and the aditional grip fell off but other than that the body (and lens!) had no issues afterwards. Was pretty impressed and relivied that a fuji can do this😅
Have the X-T4 (with the SmallRig grip) and I overall love it, but I hate the flip out screen (I only use my camera for photography) I so prefer the screen on my X-T10. For that reason alone I will upgrade to the X-T5 at some point (when the X-T6 have been out for awhile)
Please clarify your phrasing. FLIPPY SCREEN is a very inaccurate term for describing the LCD function because it can apply to both kinds, on the X-T4 and X-T5. FULLY ARTICULATED is more accurate and easily distinguished from the TWO-WAY TILT (or THREE-WAY TILT for the X-T5). Precise language is very helpful.
The X-T4 was designed to be both a traditional camera and a hybrid camera so I can imagine it suiting some people really well. It certainly represents a great value proposition now. Personally, I think Fujifilm made a really smart choice with more clearly separating the T ‘traditional’ and the H ‘hybrid’ lines. I love X-T5 for family, street and travel photography (sensor, dials and screen). But for wildlife photography, macro and video work the X-H2s is superb (fps, af speed, custom settings, grip). If I was on a budget the X-T4 could be a valuable middle ground between these two cameras.
I agree. I think separating the two lines was wise, but of course whatever you do someone is not going to be thrilled. If you’re a pro, having an xh2 as your main camera and an xt5 as a backup/all around camera could work well.
That's why I bought it. In reality, the XH series is probably better, but I couldn't justify a full professional body. X-T4 fit my bill since released.
@@PeteCocoPhotoSome people would say that a camera without a portrait grip of substantial size and portrait controls is not a camera for professional use.
@@PeteCocoPhoto Shooting portraits is too much stress on the hand. You can do the job with the wrong tool for a while, but it will not be as good and you might get hurt. And even with primes, the grip of Fujifilm aps cameras is useless, inferior to any old cheap dslr. You can hold a Nikon d5200 with a relaxed hand and the camera holds and balances itself fine on a single finger.
Since I enjoy post processing I will not upgrade to the 5 soon. I experience interactive reponse time degradation on my 26 mp files versus my 16 mp files. Hence my budget for a 5 needs to include a faster computer probably at a price more relevant than the price of a 5.
The XT4 could have been the camera to get . Good built quality , IBIS, good video settings, good battery but they had to put a flip out screen ... 🙄Went to buy the XT5 put it back shelves... XH series ? flip out screen. I think i dont like flip out screen 🤭
Awesome! I like the grip, I have one. it makes the camera substantially bigger and gives you 2 extra battery ports for a total of 3. You can leave the battery in the grip, which is very cool.
Looking at the XT-4 for a while. I did never shoot with Fujifilm, but it seems so much fun for daily photography, traveling, family photography and nature. Also looking for the XT30-II. It's a lot smaller and seems to be the perfect all day camera, but I don't know if I'm gonna miss the two extra card slots, weather sealing and IBIS, which the XT-4 does have it all. Which one would you recommend? Getting a cheaper XT30-II and spend some money on lenses or go for a little bigger and maybe better and get the XT-4? Or an another option, what do you think about the XS-20?
I love the X-T4 but if you want more compact the other two you mentioned would be preferred. It's not big but it's not tiny either. I've heard great things about the XS20 but have not tried one to date
I feel like i never hear people pointing out the pixel density on a 26 megapixel crop sensor is equivalent to like a 60 megapixel fullframe sensor. A 40 megapixel crop sensor is insane. Id rather have the better iso performance from the 26 megapixel sensor
Having used the XT4 and 5 together for low light concert photography, I haven't noticed a huge difference. I've never done a proper test on it, but just going by the images I create.
I'll address the ponts before I smash the unsubscribe button 😮😂😂... just jokes. I AGREE. I think there 🤔 were two batches of the the XT5 wheh it was released. The first batch had issues with paint and the viewfinder peeling off too. My dials are stiffer because I think there is sand in them ..oops. The dials are lockable though. The xt4 is a better video camera hands down. I jabra only held the XT4 in my hands and agree the build quality is better. I do feel.as tome moves along camera companies are skimping on costs ...save dollars here and there. Honestly I've based my xt5 on the wild coast of Australia and it looks new ....I urge people to put and L bracket on it and a strap. If you are just a family casual photographer then the XT4 is probably the better buy. Great video and Nah I didn't hit the unsubscribe button 😅thanks for a great video
Haha I’m with you dude. I’ve been pretty rough w my xt5 and have had zero issues with it. It’s been super reliable. L bracket helps if you are worried about scratches
If you look at all the reviews on RUclips, you start to go crazy... some will tell you that the xt5 is the best camera and others that the xt4 is much better than the xt5... what should I do...sell the xt5 that I just bought and get the xt4?:))))
haha I know it's ridiculous. I try to just present facts but we are all biased and it also depends on the exact subject you are shooting. But for those who want to save money, want a flip screen, and like a little heavier build quality, I think the 4 is just fine.
@@PeteCocoPhoto Yes, but it is not "healthy"to say that the XT-5 is more performant and has a better image quality than the xt-5... because we all work and act according to your reviews.. .it is my first flagship and I made a substantial effort to purchase this camera so now I have doubts fueled by you regarding the choice made:))))))))
@@dandanu2526 you should have no doubts! The 5 is amazing. You will love it. Every camera is a compromise in one way or another so it’s about finding what works best for you. I use my 5 everyday and love it more and more. It performs awesome and as I mentioned I’ve had no issues w the build whatsoever.
@@PeteCocoPhoto I already love this camera...the extra-resolution is fabulous...the only cons is overheating... at +35 C I had to stop working ant take a break
Yeah I feel that. I think they have been all over the place recently with marketing and with some of their releases... are they catering towards the tiktok generation at the expense of the pros who helped define the brand for the last 10 plus years? Perhaps but I don't know.
Agreed wholeheartedly, when new CEOs or investors come in, they often want to make their mark and that frequently comes at a cost to the brand and the long-time user base all for a few 💵💵💵 more on the spreadsheet. I have a lot of money invested into Fuji’s product line and I was hoping to stick with Fuji until I can no longer shoot. I spent 43 years with Canon going back to 1981, by the time leaving the news field. I was ready for a change in 2017, as I no longer needed those heavy 1Ds and 5Ds right about the time that Fuji was making a splash. Honestly, I certainly hope that Fuji will reconsider this move and listen to the grumblings of those who helped to put Fuji on the camera ‘map’.
Went from the XT3 to the XT5, the 4 was bigger and had that car door mirror for a rear screen. When you put the Battery grip on the XT4 and that lump of glass, it is all weight and the reason I switched to Fuji was to get rid of big heavy cameras. As you said 40mp is great if you want to crop in. But as always it's horses for courses. The XT5 suits me because of the points I made.
I don't think your Image Quality argument made sense. You made arguments for why you understand 40MP was advantageous, and then just say "but the X-T4's image quality is great so I think it wins"?? You mentioned file size but didn't specify that was the reason for.. image quality?
I think you misunderstood or maybe I wasn't clear. For most users, the 26mp is plenty of resolution. If you are doing a lot of cropping, or enlarging/printing, the 40mp would be my choice.
Wouldn’t be nice if your video camera is focusing also in both cameras and also your face in the same time rather just your face. This video should be called Focusing only on me and not the cameras because my face is the subject of the review. I like your channel because you do explain things better than other RUclipsrs but you should know better when it comes focusing subjects. It should be all in focus everything in front or centre. 👍
Ok so this is a very fair criticism and I’ve been thinking about it tbh. I’m gonna change that going forward - thanks for the kind critique. People usually just leave me a nasty comment but I appreciate it when someone gives me constructive criticism! 🙏

Love your videos.. liked and subscribed here 💯
Thank you!
I got the X-T4 with a battery-grip and love it, i also love the flipscreen(dont want anything else)
Yeah I have the grip too, it's a nice setup
@@PeteCocoPhotoSome people would say that a camera without a portrait grip of substantial size and portrait controls is not a camera for professional use.
@@aristotle_4532 some would, I wouldn’t. I have ton tons of professional shoots w my xt5 no problem. Depends on the shooter and genre of course
@@aristotle_4532 variety is the spice of life. Every portrait photog I know uses their own version of the "ideal setup"
As an X-T4 owner I love this video 😊
🙌🙌🙌
Had an XT3 skipped the XT4 because of that flip out screen got an XT5 now
Is it possible to shoot 4x5 and 4x3 picture directly from the camera with the XT4 ?
I think it is possible with the XT5 ? Right ?
If you shoot in raw + jpeg, the raw file will be the entire frame and the jpg whichever crop setting you choose
@@PeteCocoPhoto thanks
Since I enjoy post processing I will not upgrade to the 5 soon. I experience interactive reponse time degradation on my 26 mp files versus my 16 mp files. Hence my budget for a 5 needs to include a faster computer probably at a price more relevant than the price of a 5.
The larger files definitely require the faster processor.
The XT4 could have been the camera to get . Good built quality , IBIS, good video settings, good battery but they had to put a flip out screen ... 🙄Went to buy the XT5 put it back shelves... XH series ? flip out screen. I think i dont like flip out screen 🤭
Me too. I much prefer the tilting screen
You would be suprised how fun and comfortable is X-H1, the OG. Still so good, that i have no need to replace it.
I still want one but can't justify the expense LOL
@@PeteCocoPhoto they are quite cheap now. But You must try it. :) Its like X-T4 with better grip, build quality and slower AF😅
@@jakubstrumillo darn you. I might get one now haha
Before seeing these comments I was wondering “ oh how I miss my XH1 “, that sensor ,unlike any other fuji sensor.
@@MoTecZA yep, with XF 33mm f/1.4 is stunning.
i have 2 xt4,and one XH2s,and extrimely happy with it
Xh2s is such a great camera too
I have just been gifted a pretty much new X-T4, its beautiful but I think I need a grip for it...
I do concert photography and the 40mpx bring more noise on a small apsc sensor so I’ll not “upgrade” from the 4 to the 5
Using a 1.2 lens I'm still able to get a pretty low aperture value so I don't need to pump the ISO up too much.
@@PeteCocoPhoto that’s true I mainly use the 16-55 2.8 in the pit
I feel like i never hear people pointing out the pixel density on a 26 megapixel crop sensor is equivalent to like a 60 megapixel fullframe sensor. A 40 megapixel crop sensor is insane. Id rather have the better iso performance from the 26 megapixel sensor
Having used the XT4 and 5 together for low light concert photography, I haven't noticed a huge difference. I've never done a proper test on it, but just going by the images I create.
@PeteCocoPhoto wow that's an impressive feat then
I have the xt5 and I'm still impressed with xt1 with only 16mp
And since Fuji destroyed AF on xt5 with fws over the time, xt4 is now more reliable af camera 😅😅😅
hahaha
LOL Pete...Put the XT4 back on the shelf and stop feeling guilty...
Hahahaha
The XT-3 beats both!!
But it has a shitty battery 😔
Haven't tried a 3. I go back and forth with buying one. I'm sure it's just a matter of time haha
I’m still on my X-T4 and it works great for my iguana and alligator photography :-)
Cool
I'm disappointed by Fuji since the new CEO appointment in 2021. Sure they' re making money like never before but at what cost ?
Yep I agree usually I like the smaller and lighter stuff as well. That’s the beauty of the system for sure.
I didn’t like XT4 because of the size of the camera.
The 5 is nice and compact
xt2 beats xt3 as photocamera
Haven't tried it so I can't comment but I will take your word for it! I still use my XPro1 and love it
