This one is my very first Fujifilm camera! Have been heavily used it for 8 days. Man, I feel like a 6 years old me when my Dad bought me a small Pentax point-and-shoot: never thought that feeling would find me ever again. This camera is so much fun to use, and it is a beast! I also love the ergonomics, normally you would need 2 steps to set the exposure (choose a pasm mode and adjust), here all the settings are done with one step. Ergonomically the classic dials, function buttons and horizontal wheels make this camera a perfect tool for any slow or fast scenario. When I decided to switch to a Fujifilm camera from my old Ricoh GR II, I thought about an X-S10. The grip, the weight, the ibis are great. The X-T4 seemed a bit bulky for me. However, I decided to spend more money on an X-T5, since it is a camera almost as compact as an X-S10, but you get the X-T ergonomics and all the latest technologies. After getting the camera I realize the 40 mp sensor does matter (especially if you go with a prime lens like I normally do), since it's so great for cropping or even for zooming digitally. The tilt screen is great for getting perfect angles. The ibis helps to take some great pictures with slow shutter speed. And most importantly, the size and weight make it a toy-looking thing you love to carry around and people on streets don't think it's a professional camera. Just like the Ricoh GR. I also love the AF, maybe for a Sony user it sucks, but for street photography I didn't have any issues so far. I personally don't think the camera is overpriced. However, for a personal budget it is expensive. So if you go with less expensive fujifilm cameras, you can't go wrong.
Omar, I love your content it’s super informative AND entertaining. However, for those of us that are not upgrading but coming in as new hobbyists, I think the XT5 is a fantastic option. I want to prioritize photography over video, so not concerned or feel the need to move to the XH2. The portable size and weight for me with the high quality 40mb, IBIS, beautiful retro silver model appearance and dials on top make this camera such a great choice. I bought this in a kit so got the lens, extra battery, tripod, memory card and more for less than the H2 which is also obviously a wonderful camera as well. I’m just getting started so excited to make great use of my XT5. I’d love to see more great content from you on how to help those of us XT5 newbies how to get the most of our setup. Gracias! 🙏🏼
Lol 😆 love the theme! I waited to upgrade to the 40Mp X-H2 for over a year…then decided to wait longer to checkout the X-T5 first…and today I’m still finding it hard to justify to my wife upgrading to either from my X-T2 😂 Meanwhile she spent my budget on patio furniture and daughter’s clothing 😢 Folks do not hesitate!😅
The difficult thing is deleting the confirmation emails quick enough the shop sends when you purchase your well deserved item! We need a tutorial on this!
My XT-2 is a pile of unreliable crap. First was the battery grip. It wouldn't work properly with third party batteries. With fully charged batteries the camera kept saying they needed to be charged. Then the EVF starting playing up, going into the auto setting for no reason. Fuji replaced the entire top plate which, to be fair, cured the problem. Next the autofocus became intermittent at best. It would mis-focus regularly even in single point mode. I cleaned the contacts and updated the firmware in all the lenses and camera body. It made no difference. Then it would only work at F11 on all my lenses. I reloaded the firmware update but again made no difference. I don't know whether to get it repaired or throw it away. Utter rubbish. Do yourself a favour and buy anything Nikon or Canon makes. Fuji is junk.
I really didn’t want to buy this camera. But when Fuji asked me what I wanted in a camera I did not think that they would listen. Then boom out came the X-T5 so I felt obligated to buy it. This is pretty much more than what I had asked for. Shot a parade using the 50mm cron and was delighted with the photos that I had got. There are so many features on this camera that it will take me a very long time to use them. For myself this is the camera for me.
I have an X-T2 and bought it just as the X-T3 was launched. It was heavily discounted because of this and came with the XF 18-55 lens for £900. My T2 could now be considered old and a good few generations on I could realistically justify treating myself to the X-T5. Except of course for the considerable financial outlay which, for me would be excessive especially in these times of financial crisis considering that the T2 is still an excellent camera and I love it. IBIS would be nice though 🤔
I bought one, I love it. Moved from an XT3 which served me well, I never bothered with the XT4 as it was bigger and had a flippy screen yuk. So the XT5 is smaller and gives more shots than the XT4, it has ibis which is good indeed, the AF is faster and I found the eye detection works very well indeed, and tracking is better. the old kit lens and the 14mm prime seem to work very well, the 70/300 is awesome. I don't have a problem with LR as I use Adobe RAW. As for video, I don't use it, as for a battery grip? Why make a beautifully aesthetic camera bigger?
Omar, Thank you for being one of the few to try and talk a little sanity to this 40 mega pixel madness. I wish they’d gone with the previous 26 mp sensor.

Buying camera equipment is always about compromises.. the X-T5 is a beautiful camera and I'm sure it's wonderful to shoot.. the 3 positives you point out, don't really affect me.. My X-T2 has the tilty screen, I rarely need IBIS (and have the stabilized 18-55 for those rare video needs), and I always shoot with a battery grip.. I also shoot an X-E3 with smaller lenses/walk around.. 2 of the negatives are big negatives for me.. no optional battery grip is a no go.. the 90mm lives on my T2 and I shoot it 98% of the time in portrait mode. I took 3,000 shots at a fashion show the other day and it would have been really uncomfortable without the grip. The same show was scheduled to be an outdoor event, but rain pushed it to a poorly lit restaurant and I spent the day forced to shoot at ISOs as high as 12,800, I usually don't like to go above 6400, but the T2 handled it pretty well. Would I like better battery life and AF, heck yea, but the T2 has been a workhorse, never freezes, never overheats, never gives me any problems. I've got to have around 200,000 shots on it. When it finally gives up the ghost, I will go for a later model, but til then, I have no reason to change.
I am pretty happy that X-T line is back to photography first, and X-H is now the Hybrid. I got my X-T5 on release date and have been enjoying it so much. Love everything about it. I will be curious about future firmware updates they may make, I think some of the hybrid control items could be added to allow shutter speed and such to be saved to custom mode if you are using touch controls for video. But yeah, love the new viewfinder, having IBIS, the new custom mode settings, 3 way tilt screen, etc. Having an X-T3 (now a second body), i was always frustrated they never gave the X-T3 the custom mode features that the X-T4 had (white balance and clarity, etc). But I have them now! I am finding myself using JPG more than RAW, as those are coming out cleaner than RAW at higher ISO, and I always do appreciate not sitting at the computer. My X-T3 is now a backup body, and really loving where the X-T line is going…back to it’s roots.
Happily sold my XT 4 which I rarely used. Still favored my X T 2. Got the X T 5 immediately and so glad Fuji came back to making a camera for photographers. And my X T 2 I carry as a backup body when I am out in the back country
Still have my X-T2 and love it. You're right regarding the Fuji line-up. Marketing strategy has to be very carefully considered by Fuji and in order not to negatively affect sales of other (more video centric) models like the X-H2 they have given us appropriate choices I feel?
Nice video, Omar! I am still going to keep rocking my X-T3 camera bodies with battery grips. No interest at this time in the X-T5 or X-H2, or X-H2S. I agree with all of your points or concerns regarding the X-T5.😊
Honestly the file size is a great reason to stay away glad you mentioned that! Larger cards can be justified, as can more hard drives, but the backup crisis is real 40mp accelerates that. Best choice I made was to focus on getting better lenses - the 26mp sensor really can look amazing with the right lens and good light. I would rather invest in, say, a strobe this year, and an XT6 in 2 years if it has a battery GRIP (or perhaps a used XH2S down the road if they fix it). Frankly Fuji should bring the STACKED sensor to another body - god-mode autofocus would be way more useful to me than more megapixels so far since missed focus on easy shots is one of my biggest aggravations.
At this point- Fujifilm has nearly reached the absolute limit of an APSC sensor's capability. Their next big leaps will likely be to combine the qualities of their current 40mp and stacked 24mp sensors. After that? Idk. If they could apply all this to their GFX sensors. Increase the read/write speed, optimize the files a bit to cut down on size, and maybe cut the price down a tiny bit? Fuji may actually succeed at leapfrogging full frame. Making medium format a viable option next to their full frame competition.
As a street camera, the X-T5 could easily be a forever camera for me with its 500,000 shutter count rating, high resolution sensor, light weight overall system, IBIS, and weather sealing for use in the PacNW. Even the so called lesser glass has a noticeable uptick in quality even if a bit soft in the edges on occasion. Some of us are waiting to see what vintage adapted glass performs like at ISO 4000, monochrome+ye jpeg, *and* printed as it seems like the X-T2/X-Pro2/X-E3 have a special sauce there that the 26mp camera’s do not.
I love how the flip screen is moved out just a bit to clear the viewfinder cover, it drove me bonkers on the X-T3 being so close to the body and being blocked by the view finder.
Thanks. I'm still hanging with my X-T2/X-T20. BTW, I have had trouble with slightly out of focus portraits, even when the face or eye is detected, and not at max apertures either(f5.6).
Set spot focusing, make the box really small and put it right in the eye, but Michael the lens used seems to make a difference to the eye focusing at least on the X-T3 On the XF 35 F/1.4 even @ F/1.4 eye focus works 90% of the time, but if i use a zoom lens e.g. 16-80 F/4 it seems to not hit the eye as well as the 35 does
The issue is known, just nobody is talking about it. Not just portraits. Even in normal AF-S focusing on a static subject multiple times will lead to different focus points and therefore inconsistent results. It has been an issue since the X-T2 generation.
Good points, except for 2 things: the noise issue pretty much depends on the software you're using and prices for Fuji cameras on the used market are skyrocketing (the X-Pro3 and the X100V are more expensive now than when I bought them, brand new, a couple of years ago). Anyway thanks for sharing your thoughts on this and have fun!
I think the real crime are the models such as the X-T3 second hand going for more than a year ago. X100V and X-Pro3 are unique models which are in high demand due to TikTok, instagram, youtube, etc.
the X100 series are skyrocketing in pirce due to the retro trend on TikTok lately. They have become the GoTo hip camera to carry around your neck and are driving the price increase.
I wanted to buy a X-T3 last year but it was to expensive to me. I got a X-T2 in best conditions and i am very happy with it! I love the monitor, it´s genius for me ans portrait shootings an the AF is fast enough! I think with € 500.- it was the best buy for me an my photography! Thanks for your videos! I love them very much! 🙏👍😉Wolf
Since I now have an X-T5, needlessly upgrading from a perfectly adequate X-T4, I have resolved the file size issues of moving from a 26mp sensor to 40mp in two ways (1) by buying an old 16mp X-T1 at the same time. 1x 16mp shot + 1x 40mp shot roughly equals 2x26mp shots (in my head at least) so as long as I alternate shots between the X-T1 and the X-T5, I shouldn’t need any more disk space than I used for the X-T4 (whilst also saving shutter count for the X-T5 at the same time), and (2) I shall only use low resolution older lenses on the X-T5, so won’t be getting the full 40mp resolution anyway (because if I can’t see the difference in resolution, neither can my Mac, right?). And if the above logic is technically flawed 😉I will keep all three cameras but not shoot with any of them, thus avoiding the storage and processing issues completely. See, any gear acquisition can be justified if you just try hard enough.
The upgrade was the right choice for me from the X-T2. Plus as you get older, your hands are not as rock-steady as they used to be, so going from a camera with zero image stabilization to one that has it is awesome! Plus, I had no problem finding a buyer for my X-T2. My rule-of-thumb is the old camera needs to finance the purchase of the new camera. Nice video Omar.
Great video Omar, thanks. As an X-T3 hobby shooter , I know the X-T5 is out of my league & more camera than I'll ever need or use. Looking for a lightly used X-T4 for the IBIs & my recently acquired X-T5. There again, 16-55, better light, higher shutter speed/Iso & it's all good. For me X-T5 = shopping for a pick-up truck & coming home with a 3 ton stake truck IMHO. Keep the videos coming Omar !
Thanks for this. It helped me hold off. Just bought it and it’s now 200 off in Black Friday plus 100 back from Fuji so that’s £300 off. It’s cheaper than used. Thanks Omar.
Man I love your videos and sense of humor! YOU ROCK ! Also thanks for this video man I needed to hear this. I'm more Lens hungry than upgrade hungry but I still have that twitch... I'm on my X-T3 and S10 so... yeah...
Thanks for the video! The autofocus is 100% an issue. I just got back from my first trip with the X-T5 and there are way too many photos where the focus is off and the camera had indicated (green square) the image was focused. For me Fuji has a short window to correct this issue or there will be a like new X-T5 for sale........
It‘s been an issue even with AF-S since the X-T2 generation. You can focus on a static subject multiple times and each time the focus point will be different resulting in muddy images. Just nobody is talking about it.
I have the Xt3 and just purchased the Xt5 and love it. I don"t care about the 40MP, but like the IBIS. I also don"t care about the battery grip, but like the better battery compared to the xt3. I also don"t care about video capabilities. In summary, I lam glad I purchased the Xt5. There are no dealbreakers for me just dealmakers.
The WR version of the 27mm is in the list. The vintage version is not. They are supposed to have the same optical formula so I think they left out all lenses that are no longer in the current catalogue. My vintage 27mm performs as well pixel peeping as my 35mm F2, which is on the list. All of my lenses perform well even the cheap manual focus ones, which are even more fun with IBIS. My 16-80 is not on the list but it seems like it has a new life on the X-T5. My 70-300 autofocus on the X-T5 is much better than on my X-T3. I love the shutter release. Its more like the X-T1.
Thank you! I needed that :-) I have an X-T3 today (and two X-E2) and I do lust for IBIS and larger battery (and new gear) but not for 40 MP. Main reason for not upgrading at the moment is however personal: money. I won't be able to contain myself forever though, but I'll keep cool a little longer... And I do enjoy the screen debacle! :-) I'm on team tilt screen.
Great video, Omar. I never gave the "5" a second thought. I have two X-T3 bodies (plus several previous generation models) and never felt as a stills only shooter that I couldn't get the images that I want from my current gear. Additionally, as a Nikon shooter in the past, I remember when Nikon brought out the D800 and immediately rendered terrific favorite lenses as not good enough anymore due to the 36mp capture. I have a dozen XF lenses, most great at 16 to 26mp, so I don't want to find that 40mp is too much a leap out resolving the glass. Again, thanks for your honesty.
I feel like a lot of people do not choose their focus priorities or tune them to what they want. By default I think the first shot is focused priority but then the follow-up shots, focus is not the number one priority. If you change them to all shots as Focus priority then that's what the camera will do
I prefer the XE & XPro lines & since I didn't like certain aspects of the XE4 & XPro3 I'm still firmly with the 24mp & older 16mp models without any issues. I will of course look critically at the next iterations of those lines that will likely embody some XT5 features, but it's all the other add-ons that factor into the buying decision like increased computer storage, computer power and required software updates. For the time being I'll be concentrating on the best lens range for my existing cameras. A new model will have of offer exceptional improvements for me to buy.
Today a video from Pal2Tech released with him showing a difference in Fuji Film Simulations colors between the generations. Since you've done a similar video before, I'd love to see an update with the X-T5 now to confirm / challenge Pal2Tech's findings.
The X-T5 is excellent for sunny outdoor photos like landscape and street but once you are facing low light where you need to use iso 1600+ it's too noisy. I am seriously thinking of switching to A7cii or A7iv. I will miss classic chrome film simulation though
Omar! This is a great video. I have an X-T4 and like that camera very much. I really don't need the X-T5. I ended up investing in the new Sigma 18-50 F2.8 which is a solid addition and cost me a lot less.
I love my XH1 and was seriously disappointed when the XH2 removed several of XH1 features (tilt screen, focus mode lever, clickable back dial). So I waited for the XT5 but despite the increased resolution, several youtube videos put photos side by side (the XT5 40 mp sensor and XT 24 mp) showing no significant difference. Perhaps it is because it is on youtube, perhaps it wasn't cropped in, but if there is no difference at all in effective real life resolution, then maybe I should stay with the XH1.
The resolution advantage in LPH is quite small and rarely a visible advantage, only in very low iso, and with a hit in noise, and slower workflow. A good lens can double the corner resolution of the older models and improve aberrations, which is a massive improvement in some applications and the real problem of imaging. Good lenses cost a lot more money though, while a megapixel increase is easy to sell to amateurs.
@@globalpostureinstitute Could this be a focussing problem, as I've read that the new cameras do have tracking issues. Or does this mean that the added resolution of XT5 has exceeded the limits of the lens? And how long ago did you get the XT5, my order has been pending for about a month.
A great PSA! Also consider this: the RAW files from the XT-5 ( uncompressed ) are 87.3 MB!, In Nikon you can opt for smaller sized RAW files without cropping the sensor. Of course the compressed files are smaller. Omar, regarding the slow preview handling, it is possible to opt out of preview building completely on import, and just use the embedded previews. Later when you are not busy you can put set the task going to build other previews ( smart previews for example). These options are in the File handling menu on the right once you've initiated import. You may already know this.
A refreshing point of view, sure many will still upgrade. I’m really happy with my XT-3, more than good enough and can save £1K if you get a good used body (just don’t mention the battery life 😉)
Thanks for solving my upgrade urge. I think I’ll stick with my XT-2 for now. Sounds like I would have to invest in new lenses - yikes, the additional megapixels will largely just chew through SD cards more quickly with little benefit, and the autofocus still needs work. Let me know when the XT-6 is announced.
When the new 40-MPixel Fujis came out I decided to buy a X-Pro3 (and sold X-E3). I think 40 MPixel is great to have in one of 100 shoots. In the other 99 it's annoying.
I just realized my xh1 is still worthy keeping it and knowing all the photos now days 90% will be displayed on mobile devices anyway Plus Fuji won't make another xh with the nobs on top as XT series so yeh it's a special camera
I just bought a second X-T3 instead. I already have six batteries for my first X-T3 so I can share them now. Yes I do wish I had the bigger battery in the XT-3 but I can live with it and I am happy. Oh, and I can use the battery grip on both of the cameras. 🎉 P.S. love your honest reviews!
Thank Omar, a great insight. As an XT3 shooter I got very excited at the thought of more megapixels, ( cropping, zoom reach etc etc ) . I am glad I waited as the prevailing view now seems to be that its not the big step we thought from Xt3 or 4. I think my head is now moving in the direction of another lens, maybe 100 to 400 and then later a significant upgrade up to GFX for landscape photography as I ( hopefully ) progress.
Bought the X-T3 the day it came out a few years ago...and did the same with X-T5. Wonderful camera body with no regrets on purchase. Better screen, bigger battery, more pixels to help with cropping, better autofocus, more features to tweak for fujixweekly film sims, just a pleasure to shoot.
I’m not going to say the X-T5 is perfect (no grip, tiny HDMI) but to put it in context it blows the X-T3 away. Just the autofocus by itself is a massive upgrade, the fact that it has IBIS is a low light game changer and you can now use your smaller lenses without hesitation, and many other improvements - more megapixels for wildlife cropping and also pixel shift. Just even the larger battery alone makes a substantial difference. Since you are going to get more shots in focus with this camera, coupled with the other workflow advantages, it really makes for a practical upgrade. For me there is no question that this is a worthy upgrade over the X-T3 which I loved and used all the time. It is only a debatable question of whether the X-H2 with its even better specs, ergonomics and handling would have been a better alternative. Overall, I am really happy with the X-T5, absolutely no regrets or doubts on upgrading from the X-T3.
@@WatchmanNiel fully agree with you. Bought the X-H2 instead of the X-T5, stepping up from the X-T3 which I still own. The autofocus is a very big upgrade even over the X-T4 which I tried out before purchasing the X-H2. I finally use the eye autofocus more often and dare to trust it even though its not 100% its very usable for my needs. The reason I chose the X-H2 over the X-T5 because the X-H2 solved a problem with its 7 custom modes that the X-T series could not. Namely easily switch from genre eg landscape to bird in flight. Also the decrease in low light is very minor. You see more noise because you have more detail with 40mp, but printing it I didnt notice any difference with my X-T3. For me low light abilities are the same with an extra benefit of ibis in the newer models.
Mmm - a little unfair on this excellent new camera Omar!! Yes, if hybrid lovers are thinking of getting this and they are not aware that this is a stills centric camera, then they need steering elsewhere. I love mine and it is everything most of us stills shooters were hoping for!! I do love your vids though and your personality and witty way of explaining things is a joy to watch!!!
Agree with you on the megapixel madness. Fix the auto focus tracking glitches first Fuji! Seems nothing has improved since I discovered this issue with the XH1. I'm happy to wait to see whether there's a fix for it.
Thank you Omar. All very good points! In my case, even though this seemed to be an amazing upgrade for me and appeared to hit all the good spots, I decided early on not to buy the x-t5. I actually was pleased with the introduction of the XH2/S because I wanted something to replace my Nikon for workhorse use. I'm not a video shooter but wanted to combine my event photography with wildlife and occasional street (though I always use WAY more discreet cameras for my SP). Even though I shoot wildlife/birds, I did NOT want to deal with huge files and the 40 mp sensor. That would eventually force me to compensate on the computer/storage side. So, I got the XH2s and am extremely pleased! I still have my x-t30 ii for travel and my x-e2 for street. Happy camper!!
You know what's a really weird deal breaker? The hand grip. I was thrilled when I heard that they went back to the dimensions of the X-T1, roughly. But as a full on fanboy of the Fuji cameras' old timey, boxy look, I was disappointed that the new one has that massive modern hand grip. What's this supposed to be, a Sony??? So now I'm saving up for an X-E4!
Just about to take up photography, mainly want to shoot stills and already divorced 🤣 I might be the xt5s perfect customer. I would have been happy with the 26mp stacked of the h2s but the screen and dials of the XT look like they may have won
For me, the lack of a battery grip option is a dealbreaker, not just because of battery life, but for the lack of a vertical trigger. Yes, I can put the metal battery grip on it and for my personal shooting I actually shoot with an Xpro 2 with the metal grip. But if I’m shooting a wedding or portrait session with a lot of vertical work, I just love the vertical trigger and of course the extra battery life for the wedding is great. This is the first XT single digit camera that doesn’t have a battery grip. WHY FUJI???
like you say the image stabilisation is a big + compare to the Xt3 for birds because i dont like the ergonomic of the H2 and H2s and they are bigger. Especially when you put the 150-600mm there is a big problem to find a good bag to fit in it.
My XH-1 does great for me but the downfall is the rapidly dying batteries. I have the grip with 2 extra batteries on board but too much bulk for me. My XE-3 is a great camera also. 40MP, card prices and my older iMac is not in the near future. When the XH-1 takes the dirt nap, XT-4 will fill the bill! 24-26MP is more than enough for most hobby photographers in my opinion. The thought of buying or in my case financing new lenses for max performance with the XT-5 would cause too much of a strain on my situation. Great video and very nicely presented! Tks!!
Great again Omar! I use the Nikon 6ii and Nikon Zfc so I dont even have any Fujifilm equipment but your videos are always very informative and fun to watch!!
Exchange rates hurt my soul. I just spent $1600 CDN on a used X-T4. It will accompany my X-T2 on a great adventure to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, to photograph the northern lights in January.
Also got it and I'm returning it. The reason being built quality. Just getting out of the box it felt like a toy out of a piñata. I'm disappointed to say at least, compared to the solid built of the X-T2 the X-T5 has no heft, the buttons are like bubbling wiggles, the doors sound terribly plastiky and feel awful, fake. The screen has no resistance and also wiggles. The compensation dial turns smoothly and have no clicking whatsoever. The bigger lens have terrible front balance more so than the X-T2. And this is only with it a few minutes.
Omar, you're like the devil of photography, teasing us in your previous video with your brand new X-T5... And now, this!!! Anyway, you kind of convinced me to choose an X-T5 to replace my beloved X-T2... Thanks to your video on the X-T5!!!
Hi Omar from Japan. Here in Japan, some strange things are happening to the X-T5 and X-H2 (not X-H2s). The X-H2 is slightly cheaper than the X-T 5 like 50 US dollars cheaper! Many Japanese photography enthusiasts are getting baffled and understandably going for the XH-2. Anyway, love your show and keep up the excellent work!
Just like the X-T3, X-T4 and X-T5... for me those cameras are just way too expensive to play outside with and for that reason I got the X-T30 mk. II instead. I'm a hobby photographer, I don't need ''the best gear''. Also, the X-T30 mk. II does exactly the same still images as any other X-Trans IV/III camera; I don't do video. Sure, IBIS would be nice, weather sealing would be nice... but so far I can still enjoy and do photography without those features. I fully agree with Omar, don't pay for what you do not need. In other words, don't spend money unless the new camera/gear will improve your work/hobby.
Too late, I just sold my XT-3 to a mate who was looking to upgrade his XT-20 and I know will make better use of it than I. I’m in no rush to upgrade and will wait for one of Fuji’s famous cash back deals later in the new year (unless they announce a new X-Pro4 🤔). In the mean time I can use my X-Pro2 (might sell that too) or go back to my X-E3 (which I’ll never sell…he says…although I did say that about the X-T3 🤦🏻).
Still waiting on AF to be level of canon/Sony. If it still misses then i feel its not solving the problem. A missed shot is a missed shot, doesn’t matter how much MP u got just makes the problem look worse.
Oh no, Omar...You're two weeks to late with this video 😅 But.. I don't regret I bought the X-T5 ☺️ I tried the camera last weekend at a birthday event and for me(!) it's fine with ISO 3200 and 6400. Noise looks more fine. I tried the XF35 1.4 and it feels a bit snappier at the X-T5. And I am also happy with the results of this combination. Nice video like always. 👏 Have a nice weekend 😀
Coming from an XT3 thought it would be an upgrade. Did 3 sessions with the XT5 and yes, image quality is superior but focus is a really turn off, unless I'm doing something wrong. Noise is bad! and well, I'm returning it and now thinking of making the jump to GFX or maybe going Canon R6MII, if my wife lets me maybe R5 haha
I feel like Fuji may have messed it up with this. It has all the right features, but they're put together without thinking how they should function. For example, more pixels are great, but does it actually help when you cram them onto the same sensor size? It could, I feel, have been done better if more time was given to algorithms to reduce noise. Same story with the AF. It feels like nobody in the company actually did the "live with it" test to actually see if things worked out. The video-unable-to-save-settings is another one. It reminds me of this computer case that came out few months ago that has like 12 or 18 fans on it ... but the whole case is blocked off with no way for air to enter. It's also frustrating that features that immediately come to mind are completely missing (as far as I know). For example - maybe someone wants to shoot RAW but at 24 MP instead of full 40? Why can you shoot JPEG at smaller MP, but you can't with RAW? Stuff like that, as I said - nobody seems to have done the live with it test and just rushed it out.
agree 200%. There still is so much that Fujifilm could do to optimise, only through firmware updates. The easy choice of RAW resolution through the touch of a customised button is one of them. Besides, would't it be great to have a digital zoom on our primes, just like the Leica Q3 offers? Also at the touch of a button? With 40 MB under the hood, this is the way to go!
I can afford a 2nd hand XT-2 / XT-3 or splurge on XT-5 . Weirdly the 2 is more expensive than the 3. I currently have el-cheapo XT-100 so I assume anything will be an upgrade
For xh2s im gonna give you A TIP When using flog2 The xh2s has a dual gain iso feature Meaning yes the native iso is 1200 But whats intresting here that you can bump to 3200 iso where the second gain kicks in and cleans up the captured up to 50% of the noise This is only noticible after applying the grade in post Youd still get some noise but its alot cleaner than iso 2500 Do this and also use a higher rsolution than 1080p Do keep in mind that this system isnt a dual base iso camera unlike a canon c400 or a redkomodo Your low light footage will look really nice as the noise generated is organic and has a filmic look to it unlike other brands that have a chroma noise pattern that ruins skin tones As for the xh2 and xt5 the dual gain iso kicks in at flog2 iso 2500 The xt5 and xh2 are a higher res sensor and thus prone to more noise in lowlight The xt4 when using flog1 kicks in at iso2000 Im surprised that fuji doesnt advertise this feature unlike sony or blackmagic.....etc Now my question for fujifilm Does the xs20 have a dual gain iso similar to xh2s given that it has the new procesor??? Any xs20 flog2 users out there that can confirm this?!?
I built a rig with 64gb of ram, and 2 terabyte m.2 ssd hard drives. That said I bought the XH2 for the 40 megapixels for NYC landscape scenes. Nice true video on why not......all valid reasons not to buy the XT5 without being biased.
I bought the XT5 in addition to my 3 Fujifilm cameras. No regrets at all. What a nice camera to work with.
Grazie from Italy. I enjoyed it very much. Your considerations show that your content is not advertising. Thanks Omar
Thanks so much. Appreciate your gift. ❤
Gracias! 🙏🏼
I bought an XT-2 body for $400 on ebay the day after the XT-5 was announced. Its my first camera, and I've been loving it!
That is one of the xt cameras. What a fantastic look in the shots.
I’m in the same boat haha. I wanna upgrade my XT2 and I told myself, if I get a black XT5, she’ll never know the difference lol😂
Why did you ask for a camera that can focus perfectly?
You have such a great personality! Engaging and funny throughout the whole video. Keep on rockin on brotha
I appreciate that!
I'm sorry, I already bought it 😅😅
Me too…❤
Mine came this week! Sorry not sorry lol
And me. No regrets. IBIS is a fantastic creature comfort. Finally in an X-T2/3 sized and 'screened' body 👌🏼👏🏻
Me too, 2 X-T5... 🤣
Me too!
You create great content, many thank-yous😊

XT2 is a legend
X-T5 will be a better deal when your X-T3 becomes long-in-tooth and the X-T6 comes out...
Invest in lenses. Camera bodies will always be changing every 2 years or so.
Also I love how this video is really a why you should buy an XT5 camera
Exactly.
Frankly Fuji should bring the STACKED sensor to another body - god-mode autofocus would be way more useful to me than more megapixels so far since missed focus on easy shots is one of my biggest aggravations.
fix the XH2S? what needs fixing?
@@karlbratby4349 See recently released firmware 3.0 - hopefully that does the trick.
Set spot focusing, make the box really small and put it right in the eye, but Michael the lens used seems to make a difference to the eye focusing at least on the X-T3
On the XF 35 F/1.4 even @ F/1.4 eye focus works 90% of the time, but if i use a zoom lens e.g.
I will NEVER make fun of someone having too many cameras 📸
I love watching your reviews cause you always presented your videos with lots of humours making me laughing. It's great! 😆
thanks for watching!
Thanks for this. It helped me hold off. Just bought it and it’s now 200 off in Black Friday plus 100 back from Fuji so that’s £300 off. It’s cheaper than used. Thanks Omar.
Upgrading from the X-T2 to X-T5, my 80 years old hands wanted IBIS
Great reason!
That us the reason I am NOT upgrading. Maybe a new processor and adequate software in the XT-6 will stop this lingering on issue.

Thank you Omar! I can now live with my XT-3 for another 3 days (nights not included)
Phew! I didn't know whether to watch this one, as I'd already pre-ordered and purchased 🤣 I'm glad you didn't make me regret my decision 👍🏻
:-) I'm on team tilt screen.
agree...big battery and IBIS with 26mp would've killed it.
Salute from Libya 🇱🇾 just bought one!
I upgraded from an Xt30ii to an XT5 because of size and IBIS. Best decision I ever made
I feel like a lot of people do not choose their focus priorities or tune them to what they want.
This channel always makes me smile
Today a video from Pal2Tech released with him showing a difference in Fuji Film Simulations colors between the generations. Since you've done a similar video before, I'd love to see an update with the X-T5 now to confirm / challenge Pal2Tech's findings.
The X-T5 is excellent for sunny outdoor photos like landscape and street but once you are facing low light where you need to use iso 1600+ it's too noisy. I am seriously thinking of switching to A7cii or A7iv. I will miss classic chrome film simulation though
What lens are you using in low light?
@@stanleygabrel5279 The xf 18mm f1.4
I must say I love the look of this dialogue shot 🙊 Smooooove OG.
i always come back to this video , i love my x-t2 but so tempted with x-t5
I did the test for 3 days beetween the XT4 and the XT5 and it blows my mind that the XT4 looks almost in every picture sharper then the XT5
Use lossless compression, you won’t tell the difference
A refreshing point of view, sure many will still upgrade. I’m really happy with my XT-3, more than good enough and can save £1K if you get a good used body (just don’t mention the battery life 😉)
Thanks for solving my upgrade urge. I think I’ll stick with my XT-2 for now. Sounds like I would have to invest in new lenses - yikes, the additional megapixels will largely just chew through SD cards more quickly with little benefit, and the autofocus still needs work. Let me know when the XT-6 is announced.
Yep. Me too 👍
I’m wondering when the xt-6 will be released also. Haha
When the new 40-MPixel Fujis came out I decided to buy a X-Pro3 (and sold X-E3). I think 40 MPixel is great to have in one of 100 shoots. In the other 99 it's annoying.
Thx for the video! I just bought the xt-3 and LOVE it. This was helpful.
I just realized my xh1 is still worthy keeping it and knowing all the photos now days 90% will be displayed on mobile devices anyway
Plus Fuji won't make another xh with the nobs on top as XT series so yeh it's a special camera
Thanks Omar...I will keep rocking my XT-2 for now, even though the IBIS and extra megapixels are tempting.
XT2 for the win!
I have it too lol’ and I love it. And a XT20 as well with 27mm pancake lens on it, I carry it every-were
I just bought a second X-T3 instead.
Good choice. I don’t know about the X-T5 but my X-T3 blew the X-H2 away.
Smart choice.
I wish we'd get a noise performance and dynamic range war instead of megapixels.
Don't worry Omar. When the XT2 came out I had to wait 5 years before I could get one sooooo...... Yeah.
Thanks for keeping us sane. I'll buy my first drone instead. Less money and add a tool to my kit.
Haha. I was looking at drones too. Gotta stop
Thanks for watching!
Then I cannot decide. Fuji or Nikon?
I'm leaning towards Fuji, but I don't know...
Agree with you on the megapixel madness. Fix the auto focus tracking glitches first Fuji! Seems nothing has improved since I discovered this issue with the XH1. I'm happy to wait to see whether there's a fix for it.
I’m retired, have an XT-3 but want an XT-5 for landscape photography. I’m going to make sure my wife doesn’t see this video!
XH2s is a real treat!
My Sony DSC R1, 2005, 10mp is more than enough for 20x30 wall prints, that look superb, and I am picky!
So now I'm saving up for an X-E4!
oooo.....zero hand grip on that!
Thanks Omar. I went from the XT-4 to the GFX 50SII. I actively still use both depending on the subject matter. Great tips!
WHY FUJI???
Agreed, but I still bought it. Sold one of my two x-t3’s to help fund the purchase.
like you say the image stabilisation is a big + compare to the Xt3 for birds because i dont like the ergonomic of the H2 and H2s and they are bigger.
Tks!!
Omar you convinced me years ago to buy the XT20 and I had no regrets. Now im buying this XT5 lol thank you! 😂
Great again Omar! I use the Nikon 6ii and Nikon Zfc so I dont even have any Fujifilm equipment but your videos are always very informative and fun to watch!!
gotta get back to making more Nikon, Canon, Sony vids!
@@ogonzilla I'm sure many of us would love that!
Oh dang, I bought mine before I watched this. And I love it.
No XE-4,and now...neither the XT-5..Man i love your channel:))))
Omar, you're like the devil of photography, teasing us in your previous video with your brand new X-T5... And now, this!!! Anyway, you kind of convinced me to choose an X-T5 to replace my beloved X-T2... Thanks to your video on the X-T5!!!
The one thing holding me back is the smaller grip
I'm very happy with my XT4 and I see more and more videos on how the 40MP sensor is not sharper than the 26MP
I so want to go to Japan. When I go...be my guide!!
wow.. X-H2 cheaper than X-T5?
@@ogonzilla Sure thing! I can be your guide :)
A deal breaker for me would be the flip-up screen. Let's have the fully articulating one.
Keep calm and making photos with my XT3. Waiting for XT6 🤣
I didn’t need your help on this on. Saving up for the X-H2.
Instructions unclear, bought an X-H2s, video successful.
Still waiting on AF to be level of canon/Sony. If it still misses then i feel its not solving the problem. A missed shot is a missed shot, doesn’t matter how much MP u got just makes the problem look worse.
XT-6? who knows!
Oh no, Omar...You're two weeks to late with this video 😅 But.. I don't regret I bought the X-T5 ☺️
I tried the camera last weekend at a birthday event and for me(!) it's fine with ISO 3200 and 6400. Noise looks more fine. I tried the XF35 1.4 and it feels a bit snappier at the X-T5. And I am also happy with the results of this combination.
Nice video like always. 👏
Have a nice weekend 😀
Glad it's working out for you!!
Agreed. Nikon z7 can shoot smaller 24mp raws. Would’ve been nice.
I debated for days and then decided to stick with my XT-3. Just don’t need all that extra tech!
I can afford a 2nd hand XT-2 / XT-3 or splurge on XT-5 . Weirdly the 2 is more expensive than the 3.
I currently have el-cheapo XT-100 so I assume anything will be an upgrade
Thanks Omar for the heads up on the xt 5!!
You are awesome Omar, I got all my answers!!!
For xh2s im gonna give you A TIP
When using flog2
The xh2s has a dual gain iso feature
Meaning yes the native iso is 1200
But whats intresting here that you can bump to 3200 iso where the second gain kicks in and cleans up the captured up to 50% of the noise
This is only noticible after applying the grade in post
Youd still get some noise but its alot cleaner than iso 2500
Do this and also use a higher rsolution than 1080p
Do keep in mind that this system isnt a dual base iso camera unlike a canon c400 or a redkomodo
Your low light footage will look really nice as the noise generated is organic and has a filmic look to it unlike other brands that have a chroma noise pattern that ruins skin tones
As for the xh2 and xt5 the dual gain iso kicks in at flog2 iso 2500
The xt5 and xh2 are a higher res sensor and thus prone to more noise in lowlight
The xt4 when using flog1 kicks in at iso2000
Im surprised that fuji doesnt advertise this feature unlike sony or blackmagic.....etc
Now my question for fujifilm
Does the xs20 have a dual gain iso similar to xh2s given that it has the new procesor???
Any xs20 flog2 users out there that can confirm this?!?
I built a rig with 64gb of ram, and 2 terabyte m.2 ssd hard drives. That said I bought the XH2 for the 40 megapixels for NYC landscape scenes. Nice true video on why not......all valid reasons not to buy the XT5 without being biased.
Thanks man!
