This Camera completely changed my life, and made me look at LA in a new light, Im going back and trying to capture some of my best photos, only in a video way, if that makes any sense lol. Its just so much fun to use, love X-H2s!

Make sure you don't overuse the desaturated and moody look of most film simulations like Classic Chrome. You might get addicted.

There is 1 small hack with Fuji cameras you should try. If you wanna get a higher dynamic range without shooting F-Log, there is an option in the menu called DYNAMIC RANGE. The default option is DR100, but you can change it to DR200 or DR400.
What it basically does is that it allows your highlights to be properly exposed but the camera internally raises the shadows by 1 (DR200) or 2 (DR400) stops. In that way, you can get any film simulation look with higher DR and it really works. Not a bad thing if you need to have a quick turnaround, you are time-constrained or simply want to avoid shooting log for any reason.
The dynamic range setting doesn't raise the shadows. Fuji cameras have dual analog gain circuits to give them dual native ISO. When the dynamic range setting is off, the camera only uses the gain circuit that drives it's respective ISO range. When it's enabled, the camera uses both gain circuits in tandem to pull more range out of the highlights. You have to shoot at a minimum ISO to get the full effect with DR 400 (on the XT4 it's ISO 640), so it can be somewhat limiting. It also works with F-LOG AFAIK, giving it even more dynamic range. The one caveat is that the camera decides when to actually apply the effect. It will automatically decide based on the image if it needs the extra dynamic range or not. The DR setting also works on Raw files.

Late on the comments but I switched from Canon to Fuji and this was the camera I ended up with. 6 months in and I freakin love this thing. I keep saying it's a "Sony killer" but fan boys still hate on Fuji. Great video though! thnx Jet
damn, the colors and the dynamic range! Fuji never disappoints on these stuff. the focus could be improved though, on some case it looks soft. but great job nonetheless. awesome video as always Gene love it
The X-H2 and X-H2s has really good auto focus but it takes some tweaking in the settings depending on the situation and subject movement, all this can be stored to the C1-C7 for different situations. I have full custom focus setting on all of them and I almost never miss focus.

I think you should make a video around getting that "film look" out of digital cameras using different cameras, lenses, luts, and filters. I think it would make for a fun video!

I shot many a wedding on the RB67. I had a very strong right arm because of the shooting I did with it. We called it, "The Crab Arm". I sold it. I miss that camera. Glad you you have one. DON'T GET RID OF IT! Unless it's to me. 😉

I don't think so. I tried on my xh2s. This option is called F-Log VIEW ASSIST and the manual says: "Select ON to display a tone-corrected preview (equivalent to BT.709) when recording or viewing F-log movies."@@sarazinosarazino557

My cousin is a professional photographer, he specializes in underwater beach and surf photography and he loves his Fuji cameras, I could just never bring my self to go with Fuji as the canon autofocus and full frame system just made more sense but after seeing this I think i might pick up a Fuji
Yeah I have an XH2s and the autofocus still isn't quite like Canon's :( unfortunately but I think it's good enough, and all the other Fuji goodness makes up for it I think! Give it a shot!

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO. About a month away from getting my own X-H2S after all the reviews and the performance blew my mind. And this did not disappoint.
Xh2s is the best Fuji camera I have used to date. Incredible 6.2k footage and flog is awesome. The photo capabilities are also top level.

hey superstar Mark Rober did a video about a drone being used to deliver medical supplies - and one of the things it that video was how silent the drone was. Might be a connection for you to look into maybe using. The propellers were really different ... watch it and enjoy regardless. It was in the last 2 weeks, so should be easy to find. And the primary use of it is exceptionally valuable, delivering medical supplies somewhere in Africa. Anyone else out there, that drone thing is pretty cool - maybe spur some ideas for people doing film work with heavier gear or something.
I left full frame for the X H2S. Had the A7iv and R6 but was always picking up the Fujifilm.

Between Sony A7iv and XH2s BUT my main concern is AF reliability… I shoot fast movement video (music video, doc, adv and some family stuff) and I’m solo filmmaker
Also, I hybrid shooter so FX3-30 not in my list
What’s your opinion on that? Can you give me your advice?
@@thanoskaza A7iv af & af tracking is best in the game. If you're going to deal with alot of fast moving subjects I'd go with the Sony. My guess is that Fujifilm is 9/10 while Sony is 9.9/10 rating for af and af tracking.
@@thanoskaza if af is really important sony is the best (but I hate sony actually). The last update on the xh2s works good for af even with my fringer pro II and my sigma lenses.

I’ve used Fuji to record all my music videos on this channel, from the very first one I started with the xt30 & switched to the xt4 in 2021.
I’ve also only used the 18-55 lens that comes with the kit, I’d say it’s a great value for the price & takes beautiful pictures

I love my Fuji... especially the greens thanks to the X-Trans sensor which has soooo much more green sensors than the normal Bayer array...
Not really, the X-Trans has 55% greens (5 out of 9 are green), while a Bayer has 50% greens. So not too much of a difference.
@@Leonsimages True, but I think it feels way more because of the pattern. The greens are more clustered and not as spread out as in Bayer…
Fujifilm is the next big thing, that's for sure. I bought the X-T30II recently and I love it! I wish one day I can try one of the GFX models
I started out on Fuji but bought a Sony for the "Full Frame" I like my Sony a lot but Fuji images look better period. The more I see the video footage the more I want to go back sigh.

I've been shooting with them since 2016 (after a few years on Canon), and have never looked back ever since I tried my tiny little X-T10 !
The film sims are definitely one of the big reasons why their cameras get such a loyal fanbase, but there are so much more to them !
If you want to discover them in more details, Omar Gonzalez and Pal2tech channels are great to dig deeper (and they're funny as heck !).
If you want to know more about the video side of things, Palle Schultz is great too (and pretty damn funny too).

Fuji just needs to make some medium format video-centric camera (similar price to GFX100S but with fan) and all hell will break loose. And of course, make sure their GFX lenses are using linear motor instead of the stepper motor that is super slow and noisy.

Ahhh the familiar rattle of a heavy camera on a capture clip while hiking. It's so strange, I started hearing this click around 1:30ish of the video and was like "I know that sound, what is it from???" Then I saw your camera on the capture clip lol I love having my capture clip on hikes.

In refence to Potato Jet using the gimbal in portrait mode, I used my RSC 2 gimbal in portrait mode for the first time today shooting tiktok videos. Felt so weird shooting that way with my Canon R6 Mark II.

you can also shoot eterna with 400% dynamic range and do minor adjustments to it if someone doesn't like to shoot f log
I've had this camera since it came out and it's OK. My biggest issues:
- Way too sharp, even at -4.
- AF is not great compared to Sony. Fine for interviews with only one subject and another camera angle in case it freaks out, but no touch-to-track sucks.
- Not enough video tools. It needs a better exposure tool (false color or waveform). Shutter angle and LUT preview would be nice as well.
- Manual focus on Fuji lenses (33 1.4, 18 1.4) sucks - as in, they don't focus smoothly. They almost jump from point to point as you turn the focus ring. This is the biggest issue and why it would be tough for me to recommend the camera for video. There are better options if you want good AF (Sony, Canon, even Panasonic it seems) and also better options if you're going to manual focus (Blackmagic, Panasonic).
Funny how Fuji is so slow to implement things like rotation direction and angle for manual focus like Panasonic does. If we can simply adjust a mouse sensitivity, I'm pretty sure the sensors for manual focusing in the lens works similarly. Linear manual focusing behaves very weirdly too. It is too fast on native lenses (mfd -> infinity in like 10 degrees), but on the Tamron 17-70, my focus throw is >720 degrees. Totally unusable.

Love the review. I shoot on a canon R6 and wanted an everyday camera and something new instead of canon. I got a Fuji xt5. Where was you then lol. I do love the Fuji colors and ease of use.
Frank says you need a Nikon guy and I've told you at least twice in person that I 100% want to do a video with my Z9 with you guys. I've finally got it fully built out for video and it's completely mind-blowing what it can do. I love it more every single day. I doubt I'd be able to fully convert y'all but Nikon's video is now just as good as any other mirrorless system out there.

I got into Fujifilm last year with GFX 100s medium format and the rendering is just insane. Then i wanted a smaller camera and decided to try Fujifilm XH2 40mp cropped sensor. Images are great but the display playback took 2-3 seconds to show up on the screen. Just too slow for me since I’m used to a quick preview on my Nikon Z9. Return it and got Fujifilmm XH2s, faster preview w stack sensor and video centric versus xh2. I was contemplating why I need another video centric camera since my Z9 has better video capabilities but the XH2s body and lens are just way lighter to carry around. Plus film simulation options are great for those quick non high production shoots. Love my Z9 for both stills and video work so please do a review on the Z9 soon. Aloha!
What , you do know that the xh2s is pretty much close to cinema grade right ?
Damn you screwed up. It took 2-3 seconds becuase you probably had a bunch of settings on that make the image render. Do the same thing to the xh2s and it will also take 3 seconds. Adding things like clarity etc that slow the camera down. Switch the drive mode and it cuts settings that slow the camera down
It's a shame that Fuji and Nikon won't do a dedicated cinema camera (in fact, it looks like we can add Panasonic back to that pile since they seem to have abandoned Varicam and Eva1 entirely). It's probably the main thing keeping me from going with Fuji.
The X-H2 and X-H2S are basically BMPCC with photographic camera capabilities.
I can tell you that these cameras are cinema cameras first and everything else after. Everything from a full size HDMI, to the cooling fan, to the dedicated record button, to the 8K video, to the CFX card.

How exactly does the footage you're showing have a "film look?" I'm not seeing how it looks like film, or why would that even be desirable? Does it even matter since you're shooting in F-Log anyways and can adjust colors/looks to whatever you want, just like you can do with every other camera shooting in log. I'm not completely understanding what's different or specific about the FujiFilm system. Even at 5:11 with the side by side, the Sony has a more "film" look because the FujiFilm highlights are brighter and the Sony has smoother/lighter shadows. The Fuji footage has more of a green cast, too (look at the grey couch).
A balcony so big you could shoot the Beyonce "7/11" music video.
Were is the place with the cars and I have the X-H2s and best camera ever would not trade it for any other camera.
The review was great but one thing all of us do in fuji cameras we turn the noise reduction and sharpens way down even in my xt3. It gives a way more "cinematic look" and not so clinical, Cheers Potato cruise.
