People need to stop sleeping on the fuji cameras. They have made major gains I love the xpro2 maybe I will go back in the future. This h2s looks phenomenal is a major win for fuji. Thank you for the walk through ❤
I swapped my X-T4, for the X-H2 and then got an X-H2S in the January sales. Love them both. Also love my X100V. I can identify with all the plusses that you mention, but none of the minuses bother me. I have kitted out my H2S with a dummy battery/V-Lock external and a Neewer cage. For general photography the H2 gives me lossless crop-in and an incredible fastest shutter speed of 1/180,000 sec! For action and video the H2S is hard to beat, and as both have identical bodies, including button layout, they make a great pair when I need two bodies. The X100V is just a great walk about camera, with its builtin ND filter and lens shutter. Well done Fujifilm!
Best and most useful review I've seen on this camera! Your sample photos also illustrate the the functionality, but as always are one of my favorite things about your videos. The section explaining the open gate rations was perfectly edited and spot on to clarify the functionality. Fantastic video Goughie! Cheers mate!
Nice Review! As for the card slot door, yes, my model also has a "looseness" to a degree. I don't think that this is mentioned anywhere in other online forums so glad you brought it up. Glad to know that it doesn't interfere with its weather resistance in reasonable conditions from your experience.
I shoot on a A7III and I've been wanting to branch into video a lot more. I was pondering picking up a FX3, but the price of it is a bit much to swallow. I think this camera looks like the perfect option for me as it does both stills and video so well. I'm also really fond of Fuji colours and I really think the look is quite pleasing. Another big win for the Fuji is 3:2 open gate, which would be brilliant for anamorphics! Fantastic review mate... I'm being swayed more to sell my Sony gear and jumping into the Fuji system.
As a sports photo shooter and a dreaming film maker, the xh2s is the best bang for your buck camera. The stacked sensor is incredible. I've even made my xs10 a decent sports photo camera (you just have to learn how to make the AF work for you). Keep up the great work on your channel sir!
Agreed. The memory card door is the only part of the body that doesn’t feel rock solid. I will say though, it’s way better than the door on the Sony a7iv.
Amazing video and great point. I have seen so many channels turn into infomertials and churches for their Favorit camera brand. And whilst I understand the motivation of RUclips, to push consumerism, it really hurts the great content creators like you and us hobby photographers. So props to you and I am looking forward to your new videos
The memory card door on my XH2 is similar, but maybe to a lessor degree than you have shown, for what that's worth. Seems to me like there's a bit of play caused by the rubber gasket it pushes up against. Probably not a problem and just normal.
I just got an X-H2 and had seen your comment about the loose fitting door that others mentioned also. My door fits really well so possibly that has been fixed. Mine was on back order so it is likely a newer mfg date.
Just curious would you recommend buying this over a Sony a7iv for a hybrid camera? Thanks.

Hey man! I wasn looking exactly for the same issue! The card door does the same for me as well. I also used the camera in rain and nothing bad happened but I was wondering if it is normal. Anyway good to know I'm not alone ahah But great and informative video
@@Goughie Exactly what I did yeah. You got the dials and stuff the X-H2s is missing but with a flip out screen. I treat my X-T4 as a photography camera and the X-H2s as video but both can do both if I need.
Fabulous video - thank you very much. It's much more interesting to hear about usability in practice than all the talk about upcoming equipment (at worst, it's just speculation about possible specs). Am I going to sell my extensive m43 setup and buy what is perhaps the most interesting camera on the market? Probably not. For me, the new G9 II and the X-H2S are similar cameras, even if there are a few differences. Both live up to my claim to produce high-quality photos and videos to perfection (live productions are not a topic for me). The X-H2S offers the fantastic EVF, while the G9 II offers 4k120p without crop. In the end, the bodies have reached such a quality that I am increasingly looking at the larger ecosystem - (anamorphic) lenses, handles, SSD etc. In this respect, both systems are fabulous. What is missing everywhere is 1TB of internal flash memory. Do I have to buy a smartphone? 😎
Great video (as always)! Thanks a lot for your content. I have the same issues with the door of the memory slots. It looks like its a little more "closed" on the top and stands out at the bottom. But this isnt a real problem for me and only a minor critic - in general I truely hyped by the xh2s. It´s the best camera for my usecase and it makes so much fun (I owned a Sony a7iv / Canon R6 and Fujifilm xt4 before)
Overall I think comparing the pricing to small format FF (And entry level FF options at that) propagates the wrong comparable :) . The comparison to the XH2s/XH2 is NOT the A7iv, A7rV, R6, R5. The comparison in my experience is to the Sony A1, Canon R3 and Nikon Z9 offerings where the overall package of the XH2s represents huge value for money. 40fps stills, higher bit rate internal recording options, Pro Res internal recording , Black magic raw external, better IBIS than the Sony (smaller sensors being easier to balance), better rolling shutter performance than anything else close to it’s price point etc… I recently moved from Sony A1 and A7rV with a suite of GMaster lenses. I did this because the XH2s in particular offered a much more capable hybrid workflow without requiring as much external ‘kit’ as my A1 or A7rV. Particularly internal raw recording with an overall smaller lighter kit. Extremely happy with my decision. I’d encourage others half interested not to dismiss this kit because it’s APSC but instead look at it through the lens of workflow flexibility. :)
Agree with being able to compare to others too, I don’t agree that comparing to the Sony A7iv and R6 is wrong, they were the two other cameras I considered and are still worthy comparisons each with pros and cons at a similar price point People definitely need to stop only looking at full frame cameras, beyond low light you don’t gain too much at all It is missing internal raw, I think that might be a mistake in your comment towards the end, and you meant ProRes Glad you’re enjoying it!
EDIT: Yup. I meant to say internal Pro Res LT. It's been a game changer where I want more flexibility but don't want to rig up an external recorder. Great spot :) I think when I originally said 'propagates the wrong comparable' it was a poor choice of language and wasn't intended to be a dig or criticism of your video. I'm very sorry if it read that way :) I should have better worded what I was trying to express in my original comment - that (for me anyway) the comparisons with entry level FF largely stop at price. If you start to look at technical capability and workflow, the comparisons invariably push you into much loftier priced offerings from Canon, Sony and Nikon like the z9, A1 and R3.... all costing more than twice as much as the Fuji system! In that sense it actually represents a significant value proposition. But obviously that is subjective to the individual needs of the person :) Anyway, hope you're having a great day. Keep up the great work. You have a subscriber here.
Was video the main reason for your switch? I have an X-T4, but I'm looking to upgrade to either the A7iv or the X-H2S for hybrid shooting. There are some pros to the A7iv which is cheaper lenses, better autofocus. Ironically equivalent lenses by excellent 3rd party like Sigma actually cost less than Fuji lenses. They also tend to weigh less than the new f/1.4 LM primes. However, the 4k60 crop in the A7iv looks annoying from a workflow pov and I would still need APS-C wide angle lenses on top of the FF lenses. On the other hand the X-H2S offers quite a lot, but with some quirks. E.g. Inability to remap front/back dial for ISO/SS control. Lack of MCS switch mode in the front. Weird placement of the mode dial (why is it on the left). Fujifilm also lacks a fast 10-24mm option. One other issue I've noticed is the exposure stepping when zooming lenses.
@@jasontaycs7195 worth considering the sigma line for Fuji as well, the 18-55mm appears to be an amazing lens that’s small and cheap and fast, some of the new primes look good too
The top of the memory card door on my camera does flex very slightly as well, although yours looks perhaps a bit more flexible? As a point of interest, my camera is less than 2 months old.
Thank you! A fair few people have said the same so it appears normal! I think mine looks worse due to the real close macro shot! Thank you for watching
Thanks for affirming that a larger sensor is still better for low light photography. I love my XT-4 for street shooting but I switch to my Z6II for low light/indoor shooting

great video.thanks. I have the xt5,xt3 and x100v and have been shooting with it for the last 6-7 years.. I'm thinking about converting the xt3 to infrared and selling the x100v to buy an xh2s or get into the gfx system. or maybe even the Nikon z8. I came from nikon750 and that is an awesome low light camera. I mostly shoot street/travel and the xt line is perfect for that but as I approach retirement I see myself shooting more landscape and wildlife. and dabbling in video. just not sure which way to go.
@@Goughie yeah it naturally works as a webcam if you plug it into your pc and put it into OBS the video quality is superb and highly recommended for anyone if they have the money and love streaming like i do!
The video of me talking to the camera? - 6.2k 24p - Long gop - IBIS off (as it’s mounted) - eye AF - flog2, graded using dehancer So that halation is done in post using dehancer, although a pro mist will do similar if you want it in camera
my only gripe with this camera is that we for some reason can't map ISO to the front dial like in every other Fuji camera which is just weird and slows me down so much in alot of the work I do
This was the first feature request, even before the camera was available on the market and no other feature is requested that often. Fujifilm ignores it.
@@Goughie a timer that changes per second? that's actually not too bad :) I'm coming from an a7s III where you don't see anything from the top so that indication is nice. Thanks!
Highly recommend you take a look at the Angelbird Pro SE 512gb CF Type B, $180 in the US for that amount of storage? Say less.. I've been using it for over a few months now and havent had any failures.
I’ve never had it overheat to the point it stopped, I did over the summer when recording my video at my desk, get the initial warning, and that’s 45mins or so in a hot room recording 4k 24p at near max settings
I have both the hS2S and H2. I am selling the H2 along wth a 70-2300 if anyone is the US is interested, but the hs2s along with a full frame sony A7Rv will be my staples for a long time.
Hi and thanks for a great review. When you say that the X-H2s is a bigger camera as compared to the X-T5, is it primarily in thickness? I keep seeing reviews saying that it is a lot bigger, scaring me a bit from my decision to buy the X-H2 (which I have on order). When I look at size specs, I see there are only fairly small differences in height and width ... width being .6cm wider and only .2 cm taller. The biggest difference when I look at online specs seems to be thickness of the body, and there is a real difference there. Is that the case or maybe I am overlooking something? By the way, I have seen someone else commenting about the loose fit of the door/flap you mentioned, so you are not the only one. Thanks again!
I’m just writing a review on the XT5 and it’s hard to explain! And I know what you mean! In some of the side by sides in this video they look really similar in size. But in the hands they feel quite different! And I think it’s mainly down to the grip, the XH2S is far chunkier and therefore feels more substantial, when the reality is ignoring the grip they are somewhat similar
@@Goughie Thanks for that! I know not everyone wants those add-on grips but I found with the minimal grip on the X-T3, I needed to buy a SmallRig grip that to a certain extent, would make the difference in thickness and weight a bit less (but not completely so).
@@richardcarlson112 Two months late here, but I handled an X-T5 in a camera shop, and subjectively it felt heavy. I think it was because the grip isn't sufficient, so the weight it did have was harder to support. The H2S may technically be heavier, but it handles better because of the grip. The body and the lenses are significantly lighter than my old Sony A580 setup.
Here is a question for anyone: Can video from the X-H2S readily color match video from the X-T3 and X-T4 (if shot with similar settings in the first place), or does the different sensor complicate this?
They don’t perfectly match! You’ll have to grade them yourself to match closer! Shouldn’t be too hard, probably easier if shooting log footage The currently XH2S and XT5 are very different! The XT5 is very warm compared to the XH2S, you can also see this in photos too
Absolutley perfect review! This is why i love your channel so much! Can't wait for the xt5 version as xt3 fanboy and now starting amateur videographer, I'm really curious about your take on it. Some things I'd love to hear (no requirements off course it's completely personal, but it might be useful for you too :) (tracking) autofocus (also in video) and if you noticed worthy improvements ibis (in terms of photo and video id love to see if it truly helps in shutter speeds :) Log video capability File size and the new (software) features your notes on the new 40mp sensor and i know this is extremly nit picky im sorry :*) butt did you notice a diffrence in dynamic range with the new trans 5 sensor?
There’s an initial impressions video coming this week! And then I think I’ll make a comparison to the XH2S video Dynamic range wise I can’t say I did notice a differences
i dont understand why everyone keep saying CFE Type B is something to note for its price. a mid tier CFE card is cheaper than a good UHS2 SD card, while being faster. If you look at prograde gold 512gb for example, it is significantly cheaper than a UHS2 SD card thats half its capacity (while being faster). the minimum speed is sufficient for all X-H2S internal recording bitrates too, supposedly. (Prograde Cobalt shouldn't be necessary, but i could be wrong)
if you can't see a difference between photo's from the xh2s and the x-t4 then you probably can add the x-t2 to that as well, since most reviews back then also included very little to no difference between the x-t4, 3 and 2
i am on the fence on wether to buy the xt5, xh2 or xh2s and i have been leaning more and more towards the xh2s, the only downsides i see are less MP and less 'fun' i guess, but especially for video i think its worth it EDIT: bought the xh2s and i prefer shooting photos with the xt5, but for hybrid the xh2s is superior
Megapixels are now a non issues ever since Lightroom has updated. You can turn that 26 megapixels into 70+ no problem. Same with its noise reduction. Iso performance is now a non issue as well largely due to AI spilling into software.
I have an X-H2 and that memory card door has some give, but doesn't feel like it moves as much as yours. I'm sure the squish is a gasket for water resistance being compressed.
The Canon R6 even de Mark two don't have the second screen one of the things i really liked on my older cam's. For that you need to buy a R5 ore the R 3! If you see what one of this two cost the Fujifilm cam is really cheap. Also most of the lenses are Les expensive then Canon for example.
I have an X-H2s and don't have the same door issues you do. Must just be your copy. Unrelated, to each their own, but the pro mist/cinebloom filter you have going on is just wayyyy too strong IMO. I feel like if you're hoodie drawstrings look like they're glowing you've gone a bit too far. Edit: Just watched further and it seems your OOC footage is fine, you're just adding a ton of bloom with Dehancer.
You must have a good copy! You’re the only one without the issue so far! Everyone else has had the same as me! Yeaaaah I hear you! Forever experimenting!
@@Goughie Though I should have said, the content was excellent. 100% the value comes from the video features, and the custom modes for hybrid shooters. I upgraded from the X-T4 for exactly those reasons.
What models are you referring to? From what I'm seeing Fuji overall is having a hard time keeping cameras (and some lenses) in stock, not that they discontinued them. I don't know if this is due to continual supply chain issues or if the demand is just too much for their manufacturing capabilities but it definitely has caused people to take advantage and sell stuff for an astronomical markup. Used bodies are selling for as much as they were new when on sale.
@@daveb6711 I googled X-E4 and X-Pro3 they were both discontinued. I am not sure about the X-T30 ii. The only ones that are for sale right now in any major online retail store here in Canada are the X-T4, X-T5, X-H2 and X-H2s.

Cheers! I think the macro shot makes mine looks worse! It’s pretty subtle to!! Thank you for sharing
It's amazing for streaming on twitch with It's out of this world quality
Oh really! Not something that ever crossed my mind! Good to know!
@@Goughie yeah it naturally works as a webcam if you plug it into your pc and put it into OBS the video quality is superb and highly recommended for anyone if they have the money and love streaming like i do!
What mode did you shoot this video in? Also how did you get the halation glow effect? Awesome video btw!
The video of me talking to the camera?
- 6.2k 24p
- Long gop
- IBIS off (as it’s mounted)
- eye AF
- flog2, graded using dehancer
So that halation is done in post using dehancer, although a pro mist will do similar if you want it in camera
my only gripe with this camera is that we for some reason can't map ISO to the front dial like in every other Fuji camera which is just weird and slows me down so much in alot of the work I do
Oh really! It’s not something I’ve ever really used so doesn’t effect me! But that is bizarre!
This was the first feature request, even before the camera was available on the market and no other feature is requested that often. Fujifilm ignores it.
Didn't they just add that capability with the last update? I could see it being useful.
@@Indydi I believe they did!
@@Indydi yep indeed they finally added it via firmware update, about time lol
The door of my memory card is perfect an fit.
Yes.
Most of the xh2s copies have that sd card slot door prob.
thanks for this video! about the top screen: does it show when the camera is recording video? something like a rec icon maybe?
It’s shows a timer for how long your clips been recording! The tally lights are better for knowing if it’s recording
@@Goughie a timer that changes per second? that's actually not too bad :) I'm coming from an a7s III where you don't see anything from the top so that indication is nice. Thanks!
@@VideoProAcademy yes! Counts up per second and shows most settings at the same time
@@Goughie that's awesome!
Highly recommend you take a look at the Angelbird Pro SE 512gb CF Type B, $180 in the US for that amount of storage? Say less.. I've been using it for over a few months now and havent had any failures.
Hello really liked your video. I had a question does this camera has these vintage filters ?like the xx100v?
Certainly does
Is the camera overheating sometimes ? Nice review by the way, Keep it uo !!
I’ve never had it overheat to the point it stopped, I did over the summer when recording my video at my desk, get the initial warning, and that’s 45mins or so in a hot room recording 4k 24p at near max settings
@@Goughie Thanks a loot Man, it helps a loot 🙏🏻🙏🏻
7 customs modes.... nice!!
if one would need more than 7 than one doesn't really got their preferences down in yet
I have both the hS2S and H2. I am selling the H2 along wth a 70-2300 if anyone is the US is interested, but the hs2s along with a full frame sony A7Rv will be my staples for a long time.
What’s the reason you keep the h2s and not the h2? I’m still in doubt what to choose. Primarily still shooter here.
Shouldn’t be too hard, probably easier if shooting log footage
The currently XH2S and XT5 are very different! The XT5 is very warm compared to the XH2S, you can also see this in photos too
Very helpful for my plans, much appreciated.
my memory card door is the same, it was the same on a previous x-h2s and x-h2 so its a design flaw.
Would appear based on the comments some newer batches have it fixed!
Absolutley perfect review! This is why i love your channel so much! Can't wait for the xt5 version as xt3 fanboy and now starting amateur videographer, I'm really curious about your take on it.
Some things I'd love to hear (no requirements off course it's completely personal, but it might be useful for you too :)
(tracking) autofocus (also in video) and if you noticed worthy improvements
ibis (in terms of photo and video id love to see if it truly helps in shutter speeds :)
Log video capability
File size
and the new (software) features
your notes on the new 40mp sensor
and i know this is extremly nit picky im sorry :*) butt did you notice a diffrence in dynamic range with the new trans 5 sensor?
There’s an initial impressions video coming this week! And then I think I’ll make a comparison to the XH2S video
Dynamic range wise I can’t say I did notice a differences
What does BA1 TC1 CG1 mean?
I added it really briefly at the start, presets applied in my stackable preset pack to edit the image, I’ll actually mention it going forwards!
@@Goughie Thanks So Much!
i dont understand why everyone keep saying CFE Type B is something to note for its price. a mid tier CFE card is cheaper than a good UHS2 SD card, while being faster.
If you look at prograde gold 512gb for example, it is significantly cheaper than a UHS2 SD card thats half its capacity (while being faster).
the minimum speed is sufficient for all X-H2S internal recording bitrates too, supposedly. (Prograde Cobalt shouldn't be necessary, but i could be wrong)
if you can't see a difference between photo's from the xh2s and the x-t4 then you probably can add the x-t2 to that as well, since most reviews back then also included very little to no difference between the x-t4, 3 and 2
i am on the fence on wether to buy the xt5, xh2 or xh2s and i have been leaning more and more towards the xh2s, the only downsides i see are less MP and less 'fun' i guess, but especially for video i think its worth it
EDIT: bought the xh2s and i prefer shooting photos with the xt5, but for hybrid the xh2s is superior
xh2s is the best
Megapixels are now a non issues ever since Lightroom has updated. You can turn that 26 megapixels into 70+ no problem. Same with its noise reduction. Iso performance is now a non issue as well largely due to AI spilling into software.
I also considered the Sony A7IV, until I saw the video specs… unfortunately, Sony really limited the A7IV video wise & so I ruled it out…
S5 ii
@@kr8s thinking about jumping ship and trying out the s5ii,although I'm not certain about the photo experience it brings

I felt like my memory card door had play in it also. Hated that.
So weird isn’t it, on a camera that feels so solid! And the fact that so many people have noticed it too
Sounds like you may like the xs20
I have an X-H2 and that memory card door has some give, but doesn't feel like it moves as much as yours. I'm sure the squish is a gasket for water resistance being compressed.
Cf express cards like the Angelbird 512 are much cheaper per MB than any UHS II SD card. And much faster...
Battery door perfectly flush for me
The Canon R6 even de Mark two don't have the second screen one of the things i really liked on my older cam's. For that you need to buy a R5 ore the R 3! If you see what one of this two cost the Fujifilm cam is really cheap. Also most of the lenses are Les expensive then Canon for example.
Hybird?
Oh! I’ve just seen that you mean ahah!!
It looks like an OM-1, but with a larger sensor.
Nice, for the algo!
Would appear not! Worst start of my last 10! 😂
@@Goughie Oh damn. Guess I'm just super lucky. Unfortunate so many people are having that issue.
@@Goughie Though I should have said, the content was excellent. 100% the value comes from the video features, and the custom modes for hybrid shooters. I upgraded from the X-T4 for exactly those reasons.
Putting your head near the top of the frame makes it pop whenever you move due to edge distortion. Doesn’t look good.
Big brains that’s all
@@Goughie true ;)
Fuji has discontinued their cheaper cameras.
They have?
@@Goughie I can’t find them for sale and if I do on Amazon they are used and the price is significantly higher.
The only ones that are for sale right now in any major online retail store here in Canada are the X-T4, X-T5, X-H2 and X-H2s.
you know... it ain't difficult - AT ALL - to film yourself without a flippy screen. just set focus to 1m if you sit at 1m distance, it's really, really, that simple.
Hmmmm maaaaybe! Depends on your depth of field, I wiggle about a fair amount, and tried this and didn’t like it,
It’s less about the desk stuff and more about the being out and about vlogging tbh!
It looks almost like a carbon copy of the Panasonic s1h
