Cheaper and seemingly as good as an M2, I'd call that a success. For good competitor for the shocker XLS, and of the 2 I'd personally choose this.
The M2 is now cheaper 2ndhand...

Ultra Evil paint and the Dye DSR was a good combo. If I missed, it was my fault, not the equipment. Watch later how I easily shoot the poles the targets are on.
Buy good paint and clean your shit. A DSR isn't any more accurate than any other high end.

I'd take my upgraded Tippmann Crossover XVR over the Dye DSR . If my marker's got to be Ugly , I'd rather it be reliable and durable.
From what I've seen, I like it. It looks nice and comfortable, has a nice sound, I love how the bolt is, the size looks good and universal, and the trigger looks pretty nice. I just think $600 would be a better price to compete more with the Etha 2. Just my opinion but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that thinks like this. Great video!

Any data on the air efficiency?
It didn't seem to slurp down air. I didn't have any full tanks to start so I was nervous but I didn't have any issues shooting the video so it's not an air hog.
The new marker reminds me of the Dye Nt. But they fixed the problem the nt had with being hard on paint with not having a lpr in the marker. It's like a new Nt

Love the way it looks aside from the push button in the back, throws the whole thing off for me. Will probably still buy one though lol
I love the design of the front grip and the trigger frame. The button on the back is kind of odd.

I'm really liking everything that I've seen with the gun so far...except the price. I think if they were in the $700-750 price range, they would be onto something. That being said, the Hyper6 and the usb port is a nice touch, and the body lines are seamless. I want this gun reeeeaaally bad, but I can't justify $900. I'll wait a few months for the resale to hit. This will probably be the gun that brings me back to Dye.
For me it just doesn't look nice, it's relative but for 900 I want it to just look, better?
Now Dye incorporates oled board for their marker.. I like it..

Roberto Uribe Right which is cased by the vibration of the bolt pushing the ball out of the barrel. Arc bolt looks like a mix of the luxe and slg bolt.
Ordered a black one. Looking forward to shooting it and comparing it to the Shocker XLS within that same price point.

the barrel is an ultralight but the porting is slightly different
damn that thing is accurate. i hope when i get my BL VIS back from repair it shoots as nice as this DSR. i havent even shot my VIS yet.

Can you make a video explaining what each mode is and what it does because I still have no idea what PSP ramping is an NXL mode, etc.
Harry psp and nxl are tournament modes so depending what tournaments you play in will depend on what mode you have to be set in
13:00 you can definitely notice the kick (focus on his arm). before this gets a bunch of "it has no kick" comments, almost all the new markers have hardly any, but this is clearly more noticeable than my ice, cs1, and lv1.1/5/r. just my thoughts on it.
I honestly don't see it and I don't see the long range spread you see from a gun the kicks. Don't let your hate of DYE cloud your judgement
The new flex can and flex tip bolt reduces the kick. Sounds even better too. Cnoddings has a good video comparing the stock and upgraded bolt.

This has to be the mid range gun. Also I could see some pros using this gun. I see dye trying to compete again with anyone on the market for level of budget.

"shotquality" I am not sure what details are important to you, but I will attempt to answer as best I can in list below.
1. The most glaring difference is cost your comparing a $400 marker to a $900 marker. First, what is your budget?
2. Aesthetically the DSR is a full metal body instead of HDPE (plastic) body. The Etha2 body is made of HDPE.
3. DSR opperates @100 - 115 psi, whereas the Etha2 opperates well around 140-160psi. More on that, read on...
4. DSR is a true spool valve whereas the Etha2 is actually considered a dump valve which is less efficient.
5. Efficiency @ 68/45k shows the DSR @ 10 pods+200 (1600 rounds) whereas Etha2 @ 8 pods (1120 rounds).
6. Kick looks the same for both. I've shot the Etha2 & I detect minimal kick, so kick is not a big deal on either.
7. Minor detail for trigger snobs: Trigger pull I personally prefer Dye triggers just feel more crisp and responsive.
Not sure what all else matters to each individual in "shotquality" but to me it is three main factors:
A. The operating pressure being lower contributes to less kick and a smoother shot.
B. The consistency of a marker shot to shot. Inconsistency (+/- 15 fps) leads to inaccuracy. +/-5 fps is good.
C. The efficiency of a marker... for me personally I want to be able to get through atleast 3 games without having to refill my 68/45k (for me: 9 pods), but each person consumes at different rates so rate your own consumption.
What do I think? I would rather be choosing between the Dye DSR versus the SP Shocker XLS.

To say the DSR is taking the place of dye's main matrix line, naw no way! Dye Matrix line is NOT stopping just because they released a mid-high end to fill the void in the 750$-900$ range. It would be marketing suicide for Dye to kill the pro-level matrix and opt not to compete with Planet Eclipse.

TBH if a marker that looked like this was released by any other manufacturer I'd be fine with it, but coming from Dye, it just doesn't look that good
I actually like that it is a very different gun from Dye. Just when I thought I had them pegged, they changed it up.
The bolt release button looks pretty bad. It's definitely a departure from the classic DM styling, but then again it's not a DM.
SSniper14 PB I'm getting a 1st gen Proto SLG kinda vibe from the Dye DSR...Hope it has a better reliability track record as the SLG was a HORRIBLE mistake.

Tbh. Rather save up for the m2. I don't like the look of it either it looks to plain for a dye gun and rather buy the xls instead of this.. I like dye but not my cup of gun. Btw you could buy a used m2 for $850 I've seen them and they looked perfect but the choice is yours.

Nope, I missed that! Just one reg, so they are the same thing. Adjustment is through the bottom.

That's a tough comparison. Always a competition between Dye and PE.

they are made in smaller runs with more options and often more complicated.

OK, that's a tough one. I intentionally try NOT to compare guns made by different manufacturers because someone will get their feelings hurt and be mad at me. The truth is, I don't showcase most guns on here. If I show off a gun, it usually means it will be a contender.
Go out and try both. See which one fits you better. Then buy that one and play with it until you could go pro with it.

I owned a 160R and shot the DSR. IMO they are really nothing alike. IMHO the DSR had a more comfortable feel, a softer shot, and noticeably quieter when comparing the stock barrel on the 160 with the Ultralite that comes with the DSR. With a deadly wind barrel on both the DSR was still quieter, but there wasn't as much of a difference. If you could buy both at the exact same price I would go with the DSR over the 160. I like my 160, but I would consider trading it for a DSR if one came along.
Also IMO it kind of felt like shooting a DM15.

The Empire Ultra Evil shot great and broke great. I also shot GI and Valken in the video. It didn't break any of the three.
I have had a lot of trouble with the Empire paint breaking in the past I was using some last weekend and was bouncing off railroad ties and bouncing at 20 feet in the air
For $900, you'd think they'd be able to at least do some milling on it. Most boring, basic milling design of all time.

Jose Liera , and people like you have low expectations , and are quick to defend a company's questionable marketing like a fanboi.
Value in this case is comparing it to it's intended competition : The new Ion ,err "Shocker" , the Axe Pro and the G Tek 160R all cheaper all with roughly similar features and 1 which stock is gentler on paint ( the 160R) the other with a bolt upgrade from lurker is gentler on paint and about 400 dollars cheaper. ( The Axe Pro with a Lurker Eigenbolt.)
All three of these mid range markers are hundreds of dollars cheaper some have better implemented features as well as finer milling than the DSR.
At $900 USD MSRP the damn thing isn't a *mid tier* marker.
It's in the the same price category as a *high end* marker , and being among that crowd it better shoot like, have the fit & finish of and have the features equivalent of a DLX Luxe , Empire Vanquish , Planet Eclipse CS 1.5 or come damn close.
We can see plainly it fails on the milling / cosmetics so that's one strike against it for high end marker fit & finish.

reignick1133 couldn't have said it better. I have the axe pro. And it's sad to say. I've shot the cs1, the dsr, and the axe is much softer quieter shot. The dsr isn't a bad marker. Just not 800 dollars worth. For 800. I got a m2. And I'm happy.

Nice things are not always cheap. Sports car industry is similar... Read on for example; do you want a Mazda (entry), a Mustang (workhorse), BMW M2 (efficiency), or a Ferrari (high-end, gleamer / $350,000 call it what you want)??? Paintball industry the question is can you afford a Mini / Etha / Rail (entry), or Axe / Gtek / Reflex (workhorse), or Shocker / Clone / DSR (efficiency), Luxe / Geo / Matrix (high-end gleamer / $1450 call it what you want)???
Left out a few... DangerousPower, BobLong, MacDev, ValkenSports... but the point is, different platforms in separate price brackets, we must budget to play.

One regulator. No, you can't read the pressures on the screen. The bolts are very different - time will tell if one is better than the other.

I think your over-analytical of "kick". For starters, kick is "recoil" in firearms and is over-analyzed by the entire industry of paintball as a selling point. Kick is irrelevant to your play beyond stacked tube blowbacks and inline tippmanns. Unless your a one armed player, you should be able to compensate for said "kick". Recoil is just part of the third law of physics, live with it. If you want compare something that matters, go look at the efficiency tests.

Alan Orlowski 3.5 the CSs are too thick on the foregrip. My hands fit them but the 3.5 ergo is better for me. Shot quality goes to CS1. Almost bought one this year at NXL.
