Hi Richard, I just acquired the EOS500D from my son who has recently up graded his camera. What a relief to come across your series of tutorials. I'm a complete amateur and now have this very sophisticated piece of equipment which appears kind or scary as everything appearsso complicated. Your vids are calm, infomative great news for the beginner.Cheers mate.
@@rumirenckens9557 I do still catch some of them. Missed a few over the years an RUclips failed to notify me of them but I do check a few times a month now. :)
@rickjbradbury just got my 500d a few hours and followed your videos. so much easyer than reading the manual and more helpfull to have it explaned like you have done it canon should have a dvd of you or at least a link to your youtube account in with the camera thanks so much you have no idea how much time you haved saved me
thx4sharing,I consider your tutorial very important because yesterday my wife bought me a Canon EOS 500D.It was this offer in the shop where you get adding to the camera itself 2 Lenses,18-55mm and 55-250mm .
Thanks alot, this is my very first camera and somebody told me to check your series out. Frankly, I am not disappointed at all about this series, I feel it's going to be a great complete series, keep up the good job. :-)
Oh wow! I love these kinds of videos. I have just watched this one tonight, will watch the next soon. tomorrow probably... :D can't wait. THANK YOU SO MUCH, You know Canon should be giving you money for this in my opinion...
Hi, i know this is a 12 year old series but i just received this camera from my stepdad and its so helpful :) thank you so much for helping me figure this thing out
@@rickjbradbury Thanks men. There is a slight issue with the auto focus. If I auto focus sometimes it doesn't respond. If I manuel focus all the way to the left and then autofocus it does focus. Not a big deal but kinda annoying. Any tips for me?? thanks
@@janroodbol5055 Auto focus needs contrast to work. Lenses will also have a minimum focus distance. If you are pointing the camera at a plain wall focus will hunt or do nothing as the scene has no contrast. The AF points on the 500D are not all equal the centre point is the best one. It's the same on my 5D Mark II bodies so I focus and recompose. If you let me know the situation you were in I can offer more advice. I also have a video on this channel about focus as well.
@@rickjbradbury I tried it today with another lens from a friend and that one focused just fine. I think my lens is just broken. If I try to autofocus when the image is reasonably sharp it wont let me take the foto. If I manually make the image blurry an then autofocus it wil sharpen. its really weird ;-)
Thanks a lot for making this videos! I got a Kiss X3 from a guy from my city at a pretty good price, hope i'll learn more about DSLR's and how to be a good photographer!
Man what a god send. I just bought a 2nd hand 500d and haven't got too much idea how to use it, cheers, I can see these videos are going to be a massive help. May I suggest though, that in your description in each video out of the series you include a Video Index, with links. it make finding all the videos much easier. thanks. Alex
Hi Rick, total DSLR noob here... will be collecting my 500D from the shop in 3 days hopefully. Could you explain the display setting for me? like is it possible to have the screen turned on all the time showing exactly what the lens sees, therefore eliminate having to use the veiwfinder? Thanks for the vids, I look forward to the next ones.
Hello, I just bought a Canon EOS 500D and I just watched your tutorials as I hate reading manuals, there is a button beneath the lens release button that you didn't cover what's that for? Thanks.
i am looking for a dslr and am an absolute beginer i can strech my budget to the d500 with the 18-55 or would i be better of getting a d1000 twin lens pack with a 18-55 and a 75-300 for roughly the same money will only be using it for learning the skills and random photos to beging with any help will be much appreciated
Hello, what do you think about using mirror lock up for long exposure shots? Also, what about the high ISO noise reduction feature? The noise reduction feature seems to create "blur" in my tests. Thanks for any info about long exposure settings. If you could do a video or respond to this comment it would be great. Thanks.
For two weeks I am trying to wrestle through the paper manual and I still do not get. Your tutorial makes it so much easier. So far I am pretty satisfied with the camera, the only real big con is that it cannot record in 25fps mode. Either 30 or 20 fps, here in Europe we need 24 and 25 fps! I hope Cannon will update its firmware soon.
Hi Rick I am going to be trying to make a stop motion project, what sort of cable do I need to run from the camera into the software, I have just heard you use the term AV? cable would that be the kind I need to get.
@rickjbradbury Hello i got a question for you.. Which one i buy?Canon 500D with double Kit(18-55mm and 55-250mm) with price $730 or Canon 550D with 18-55mm Kit with price $700 ?? Thanks for the video..

@azn2newbie i suggest you to go with 550d. I m currently using 500d but i have seen my friend's 550d, looks better and got higher resolution of 18 megapixel.
if you do tutorial videos and you use phrases like " push this, push that, click this or that button." instead of naming the button, you're not doing a good job. people want to watch your videos to learn and see what you're doing.

Thank you again RJ just going back to taking some photos for a college work and am going to do all of tutorials.

Im very thankful! best cam tutorial EVVA!!! :D
I have a query, what will happen to the image quality, if I shot a pic at 3.7MP setting on quality, vs 15 MP setting on quality.
@MrDanged i have the same dilemma! please rickjbradbury, can you answer? Thanks in advance.
@rickjbradbury thank u very much for the quick response!!
