  • A subscriber sent me some 0.308 152 grain Lehigh Defense Controlled Chaos bullets to ballist gel test at different velocities simulating how they will perform at differant ranges. I have to say I am a bit impressed at how well the did at low velocity (sub 1500 fps) as well as really high velocity (over 3300 fps)

    Someone really didn't like those gel blocks or table LOL. Those bullets make me think that the Berger VLD hunting and Barnes TSX had a baby.

    That might just be the bullet for my 16" 308. What a wicked little pill.

      @Ryan A Leenders I'm still tempted to go 12" but I used a faxon 16" pencil barrel and got a lighter build. As a hunting rifle those 6oz matter. The 12" would be really sweet with my can.

    Thanks for testing them. Great performance at the lower velocities, devastating in the 300prc. Their claimed 1500fps minimum seemed too low to me, but they did great.

      I was quite pleased with this test. I'm thinking about these for reduced load youth hunting.

      @@simplemindedfella I'm also really glad they performed so well. The 1500fps opening speed is a fair bit lower than other hunting bullets making them a good choice for a reduced load. I'm hoping to do an elk hunt in the next few years and will probably be using the 175g version in 30-06. I also have some of their 55g .224 controlled chaos if you wanted some to play with.

    Do you ever do accuracy test on any of those mono bullets. My 6.5 Hammers shoot well out past 500 in 2 different guns. But 30 nosler shooting181 and 199 HH are well over MOA at anything past 350 with three different powders. Factory accubond ammo in 30 nosler is half MOA at 700. Love the videos.

    • @simplemindedfella
      @simplemindedfella  2 года назад +3

      Not typically. In most cases I have sample packs of bullets and do not have enough to do accuracy test.

    Shot a lot of deer with the Lehigh's in 6.5 creedmoor and grendel, they died, and it was accurate on paper, but I didn't see anything much different other then multiple exit holes. Maybe in larger more powerful offerings it would offer an advantage over conventional bullets but not sure.

      Great initial expansion and energy dump, good penetration of the base, reliable expansion at lower velocities down to 1500fps. Reasonable priced all copper bullets at $0.66 each, vs barnes TSX at $1.00 each, Horndy GMX at $0.92 each, and hammer at $1.14 each. I will definitely be buying more.

      Either way I get these for cheaper than conventional cup and core bullets.. So as long as that’s the case I mine we’ll go with the all copper rounds.

    In a hunting situation, won't the petals shearing off like that cause more bloodshot damage? Many thanks for the vid.

    • @simplemindedfella
      @simplemindedfella  2 года назад +1

      It can. Still tends to be less then a cup and core bullet. Having pedals that shed like that helps transfer energy and give a bit better stopping power.

    Is there any chance of a follow up video for retained weight/recovered bullets?

    • @simplemindedfella
      @simplemindedfella  2 года назад +3

      Average weight of cores recovered 77.3, average weight of petals 18.0, for a total of 149.34 grains on average. Petals ranged form 14.7 to 22.7 and cores 76.8 to 77.8 The low velocity core with its petals is exactly 152 grains and with the higher velocity one of the petals exited the gelatin, everything recovered is 137.4 I was unable to recover anything from the rounds shot out of the 300 PRC.
