Cheers for the shout-out! I'm also really glad Cubee is getting some recognition for the amount of work he put into this amazing little game!

As someone who previously spent hundreds of hours on the 3DS version of terraria, I can confirm that this is a visual upgrade
3DS version, but yeah
I’ve always wanted to get the 3ds version just to see how it is
Should I try it?
@@S_TripleA nah just stick with PC 3DS terraria is awful
@@Cdazzz ok lol
I'm homebrewing my 3DS and added Terraria just for the heck of it, haven't actually.. played it yet though. I will probably regret it, but it's a neat thing.
This project is super cool. Thanks for putting a spotlight on it, Chippy!

@@NG-tl4qr hey it’s kinda rude to randomly link your video in the comments like that
@@Warcraftnerd2 need the data
This game gives me like, old minecraft pocket edition vibes. I think it's how the entire screen suddenly switches to different phases of darkness, kind of like how it worked in minecraft.

@@UCgx7OseCrundqkE8oEVeobg it did in infdev and prior to it.
@@UCgx7OseCrundqkE8oEVeobg it literally did, i can play it and it will do it. in the first every versions from may 2009 it also works like that.
@@UCgx7OseCrundqkE8oEVeobg you clearly haven't been playing the correct versions, because it did. one by one, each block was darker than the other, and it also effected your vision of yourself.
@@UCgx7OseCrundqkE8oEVeobg that is literal bullshit it was block by block and i literally said it didn't look as smooth as it looks now... it affected the players item and the players hand. not the hud though. chunk by chunk wtf can i have proof of that because i'm pretty sure you're bullshitting
This is actually VERY impressive. Because, PICO-8's whole gimic is that the whole game file can be compressed to a .png file. And so, you only get 8196 "tokens" a token is a word or a symbol
I never would've known about this if you didn't make a video about it, which is a shame since I've seen a ton of really neat games made in Pico-8 (such as an Alone in the Dark demake). It's seriously incredible how far people have gotten with optimization and such on it!

That bit about having a mini game of this in terraria, needs to be done. Mabey like an endgame item "suspicious arcade" or something idk.
Actually yes.
Actually yes.
If you complete the minigame- the arcade cabinet breaks and spawns a secret boss
Actually yes.
Actually yes.
So maybe the devs could poke some cheeky fun at this with a "terra -n" as like a pet/companion
“My boys have never tasted Terran before!”
i think it would summon a low-res/retro version of either the guide or the player
Terrarist
@@DDub04 win
5:36 The full version of Celeste has the pico 8 version within it too lol
This definetly looks feasible for the 80s, wonder what Terraria would be today if the first version was something like this
It'd be cool if Terraria was initially made in the 80s and more entire Terraria games came out and added more bosses until Journey's End like we have today
ruclips.net/video/X4RoKBmk1AE/видео.html
I don't think sprite rotation would have been possible. You could code a bow and arrow, but getting the arrow drop on it would be a lot of coding just going into archery. It might work on the Master System.
This has waaaaaay too much colors for the 80s
@@motaaaa Thats probably because its all displayed in retro when you play it on a machine
If this existed in somewhere in the 90s and early 20s, It would be considered one of the best games ever created.
what I like about this is that they made a seperate sprite for every rotation of the demon eye, rather than in vanilla, where they just spin the sprite around
Doesn't has to be separate sprite. Can be just transformed sprite based on rotation
my parents : *sees me playing this game'
Them again : "I used to play that game in the old days"
Wait really? Lmao

OMG I feel the exact same! it might even be better than normal terraria if it was on a mini arcade!
For some reason this demake seems to capture the feel of a forest biome better than normal Terraria. Maybe it's just the dense trees and the background.
I agree that this feels more foresty than normal Terraria, maybe its the dark browns and greens. In Terraria it kinda feels like a grassland with trees scattered, and it's really vivid
If this WAS released in 1980, it'd legit be one of the most influential games ever, even more so than Mario.
This looks absolutely phenomenal! Glad I found out about this neat project.
the slimes look like amogus
I can't unsee it so you don't get to either.
seriously though this is absolutely insane
The whole look of this version really reminds me of an already existing game "Junk Jack", where everything, including the player, is 1x1. Pretty neato seeing Terraria like this.
Wow it’s been years since I heard that name!
@@KenLinx Glad to know I’m not the only one who remembers lol
Brunoki22 you just set me back on an hour-long nostalgia trip.
I love these little terraria spin-offs you showcase, keep up the good work Chippy
Love the way this looks. Super cool demake
About putting this into the actual game as an easter egg or extra machine-like thing you could use, that’s actually exactly what celeste did, having the pico-8 version of the game playable from finding a hidden room.
Pico8 is so amazing, it truly needs more love!
10:49 that dodge was insane
Wow, this is a really cool idea, I will definitely have to try this out
this is super cool. definitely wouldn’t have known about this without your video, so sincerely thank you! i wonder if you can play with an NES controller.. i bet that’d make it less frustrating, controls wise. look forward to giving it a try. this is super impressive, i thought it’d be a digdug/ghouls and ghosts hybrid when i first saw it but the fact it has crafting and building is awesome; it’d be amazing if they kept adding to this.
This is giving me nostalgia ive never had
This looks really impressive.
I expect this may have been entirely possible on the SNES.
pixel rotation did not exist in 1988, at least not very commonly i believe. i think it would be more convincing if they switched to a different sprite whenever an entity rotated instead of using a programming technique that they didnt have in 1988
This is such a masterpiece done out of a masterpiece
A texture pack that looks like this for the original game would be cool and a mod for the simpler music
I just noticed the music and oh my god
Edit: please make this a series Chippy
celeste actually has a mini arcade in game which lets you play the demake in this engine, its pretty cool
Its honestly mind-blowing to me
Love watching this instead on study for exam.
5:40 In Celeste, which was mentioned at the beginning, you can play the original version in an Easter egg too.
I like how as he’s fighting enemies you can hear the mashing lol
10:48 Chippy do be making some matrix movements out here.
1:34 now thats Gameboy
100% accurate, this would've been awesome if this was made for Nes or Atari system
They should seriously add this to the main game, an item that when interacted with boots up the pico 8 file. They did it in celeste, actually it might be hard to put it in the game with it being so old, they should put this in terraria 2.
badass! 10/10! Love the way they solved for things like background layers just have placed objects include a wall
Chippy sliding in an idea red in the back thinking about it
The music is also amazing. I think I prefer it to the original, it's really well made
The fact that ocram is in this makes it a certified banger
Oh my god I would love this in Terraria itself. Flesh it out some more, you could even remake all of pre hard mode in a little arcade cabinet. Killing bosses in the arcade could yield special, low pixel rewards or cosmetics even. This has so much potential!!
"Terraria 2 idea"
4:12 "crapfire"... I agree with every fibre of my being
Hey Chippy i just recently heard of two calamity youtubers getting hacked, stay safe!
almost 980k
i cant wait for the one mil
I would love to load this onto a gameboy flash cart and play this on a gameboy advance sp, it would be so fun
5:35 celeste has this and its cool af
The interesting thing is that Pico-8 games are stored as a png file. A modified png file but you can usually just load the official cover art to a game and actually play the game.
It would be awesome if there was an MS-DOS version that can run on a vintage hardware!
10:40 the real impressive thing is you perfectly going between both demon eyes when you jumped
this reminds me of the old 2d minecraft flash games i used to play in school. good times.
Here we go
If this did come out in the 80s/90s I bet there would have been playground rumors that king slime was some sort of robot controlled by the guy inside
"I know how to play games." Haha 🤣 😂 sounds like something my sister would say
that demake has a very good name !
The arcade idea also exists in Celeste, you can find it in a secret area and play the original
Dig Doug might actually have something on them
We need a texture pack of this
I guess the only change I would make is try having 2 high sprites for the player/zombies etc.
If it was created in the 80s that's the most advance survival 80s game I've seen
Chippy hit maximum stampitude this vid
This looks way tooooo good!
Over the many years I have watched you, I have only had really one big question and that is how many hours have do you have for terraria on the computer version
Very cool concept.
This needs to be on the gameboy!
this reminds me of pico 8 funnily enough
Dude i knew it was PICO-8 when I saw those graphics
5:35 it's like Celeste where you can play a Pico-8 version of the game IN the game
I never knew I wanted Terraria with Oregon Trail graphics, but now I do.
Thnx for the video chippy
Stranded isle on cool math games, kinda looks like this
This looks more like a 90's MS-DOS game, games in the 80's weren't that advanced yet
Somebody needs to make 100 days Terraria underworld
Do more of this pls
This game reminded me first Spelunky
Wow... Thats awesome
I've tried this project, and was like: this is epic, but at what cost?
Looks like a Coolmath game you'd play in 5th grade at the computer lab when you were done with your work
This is awesome!
This will blow up if it was made that year
this would have sold hot cakes back in the day as most games back then were mostly hardcore rpg character builds. etc
Lets go now my computer can handle terra!
I’ve played it now and I beat the eye of cuthulu it is very well made
I thought i'd mention that empranion made an 80's terraria trailer last year.
Wow, just wow, I hope someone will port it into psp so I can play it on hand!
i fell like the lighting system in this game would be perfect for a canny or uncanny meme
Dude, that's badass...
Pretty impressive
I have come to the conclusion cubee is a very talented creator.
Have they made it so we can connect our Storage items together into groups and move the inventory items around inside to create empty spaces?
This is sooo cool!
Hey James, When you get your Steam Deck, would you also (If at all possible due to the dock) test Terraria out on a monitor? Because this console might be a very nice alternative to a laptop. Thanks!
I paid 400 for an Asus vuvibook about a year ago, it more than handles Terraria.
@VaderxG The steam deck is a small handheld gaming device meaning it is more portable and you can use it in places that you couldn't use a laptop because a laptop you need a controller, and it is way bigger where the steam deck you only need that to play and if you need a gaming device to last that long on the battery you probably have an addiction or a problem.
Oh, and with a gaming laptop you need a table because those things get insanely hot you don't want to burn your lap, and they need a charger to run at their best for most games, unlike the steam deck...
And I'm not trying to start a fight here they are just used for different things...
@VaderxG Yeah sure, except that the Deck is much better priced than similarly specced laptops. Also, power banks exist, so the battery life is a non-issue.
the zombies look like frogs on two legs
Now I want to see Terraria in CGA graphics
This totally looks like it would be a legit Comodore 64 or Amiga game.
Doesn't look like it'd be made in the 80s. Just looks like a modern indie game with a retro feel in mind.
My man Svings got a shoutout
He sure did!
