Great videos regardless, it's been a while since I've played the game, so it's nice both to relive it and to see the handful of new things they added since the last time I beat it. Just got to the bit a bout you asking if people watch you just because it's Terraria or not, so I will add, I did just get randomly recommended one of your videos and clicked it on a whim and have been pleasantly surprised by how good your editing style and sense of humor and storytelling are in general.
I ain't never seen a soul legitimately use Ancient Hallowed Armor, which is crafted at a demon altar with Hallowed bars and provides the same exact stats as the regular Hallowed armor. Also maybe you could've used like the ghastly glaive for plantera EDIT: I've never gotten this much likes before its just a comment about me terraria armor
A lot of people don't realize that sentries stay active after you die. Its the easiest way to kill the pillars. Just go in and out of the edge of the pillars zone of influence to kill the minions. After that, rush to the bottom of the pillar in full sentry mage gear and use the fireball sentries. Because neither the sentries or the pillars HP bar reset at death, the sentries will just keep firing at the pillar until it dies without you needing to even be there. Once the sentries are placed, the pillar is defeated, just a matter of time. Even on master mode it takes like 30 seconds if you have 6 sentries and the highest sentry gear. Sentries are extremely underutilized.
@@syrelian You should try the Valhalla Knight set. Lot of people are sleeping on sentries and that set is honestly kinda cracked. It's not hard to get to a point where you can stand still and have the turrets and melee spam kill Moon Lord on lower difficulties.
I remember on a recent playthrough I used like a magic/sentry/summon hybrid class with a Terrablade because why not, and I did this because of terrarias preset feature, so I ended up using the Monk Armor from the old ones army, fire ball sentry and ballista, the clinger wall staff which was dope, lazer machine gun, oh and yeah i used the desert armor set which was really good summoner/mage gear for no reason.
For that matter, the Mushroom Spear is also an option for an underused weapon, and is honestly one of the best spears in the game, only really being beaten by the North Pole. Caveat being the Truffle doesn't sell either until at least one mech boss defeated, and by that point any need for the Hammush is probably moot.

You should’ve tried the snowman cannon to kill moonlord. It shoots homing rockets that do a crap ton of damage, and it is pretty easy to get. I hadn’t even known it existed until one dropped from an ice queen while I was grinding for the razor pine. Now it is easily my favorite weapon in terraria.
@@phantominway Still not the best prelunar. Even the bows have 3 weapons which are better for everything, except homing (you can still use holy\chrolophyte arrows for crowds and ichor arrows for pure damage) and even then the chain gun with chrolophyte bullets exists

I personally use bows prehardmode, switch to onyx blaster for mechs and plantera, and then go for the piranha gun for its good dps. Then I use it against the frost moon, get the snowman cannon, and then I'm basically set the rest of the game.
Some things to add on to this: - The Slime staff is so rare that you should be allowed to use it. - The Terragrim is also rare enough for this challenge. - Most people use the Frostspark/Terraspark boots over the Frog Boots, so those are on the table. - Frog Gear is also on the table because most people won't waste climbing gear making it. - The Harpoon gun sucks and no one uses it, so it could have been used. - The Ankh Charm would have been a useful accessory, and no one uses it because they almost immediately combine it with the Obsidian Shield. - Phase Blades, the Falcon Blade, and the Bladed Glove are all good, usable options. - I don't know if people use the breaker blade, but you probably could have used that. - You could have used the cool whip at the start of Hardmode because it sucks and most people just use the Wall of Flesh whip as a result. - After defeating one mech boss, you could have upgraded to the Tavernkeep armors, since it's rare for people to use any of them besides maybe the Squire Great Helm. - Alternatively, Crystal Assassin would have been a massive boost because it gives you a dash. - As another commenter pointed out, the Sanguine staff is actually a very popular staff, so it's actually off limits in this challenge. - The pirate staff on the other hand is fair game... So long as you're willing to grind for it. - The KO Cannon is a hardmode Bloodmoon weapon you can use. - Super Star Shooter is also off limits. Anyone who uses the Star Cannon upgrades to it. - The Clinger Staff could have been used against Destroyer and the Old one's army. - You can use the Drax. No one uses drills. - The Chlorophyte Swords are actually usable, but only because they're bad. - Lances are allowed. - The Sleepy Octopod from the Ogre is allowed. - The Sky Dragon's Fury from the Ogre and Betsy are also usable. - The Pulse Bow is a bow I don't really see people using (probably because of how weird it is.) - The Proximity Mine Launcher is weird and kinda crappy, so no one uses it. - The Celebration is less crappy, but so underwhelming that no one uses it. - The Flame Thrower and Elf Melter are super under utilized and can shred even master mode bosses. - The Gray and Orange Zapinators are allowable because they're so difficult to come by. - Stellar Tune is a rare item from a boss that a lot of people skip out of fear, so there's one. - The Desert Tiger staff is a minion you could use. - The Toxic Flask is hardly used. - Medusa's Head is a weapon I've literally never seen anyone have before. - Deadly Sphere staff was unused even back before Summoner got other options at that point in progression. - Probably shouldn't be able to use anything from Bone Lee. - The Stardust Cell Staff is easily the least used Pillar weapon, so you could have used that. Edit: You know, now I really wish there was a statistic for who builds what, just so we can see how many people actually make the drills. Edit 2: Drills are all bugged. Just thought you all should know that.

I mean, why waste your time with the star cannon when you can just use literally anything for EOC literally anything piercing for EOW and/or BOC, the mini shark or boom stick or other guns for bee, the bee’s knees for skeletron (or mini shark if you don’t want to grind), and hellwing for wall. The only reason to use star cannon is in very hard playthroughs such as the zeed or FTW or challenges where you are restricted in some capacity. And even then… Most people won’t bother to grind for 27 years to get a usable amount of stars, most will just persevere. Through, in summation, unless you’re doing a challenge run or (if you’re feeling like losing some time for some extra “easiness”) legendary mode, in most other cases, it simply isn’t worth to get.
As someone who has gone out of their way to get every armor set and weapon, I can confirm there are loads more things that are underused and underrated. I kinda wanna give this run a shot.

Using the stake launcher as an example because its total damage adds up to 100 (which makes calculations very convenient), the final average damage output of shroomite armor is 905 DPS, whereas red riding’s is 870. _However,_ that's dependent on the ammo type being used. If you like using multiple weapon types, red riding is automatically better. Also, it doesn’t take into account the extra damage given if you, for example, use an additional minion (which, realistically, you _probably_ should be using since it’s just free extra damage when you get down to it), which immediately bumps the damage output of the RR armor up past shroomite armor even if you only use a single ammo type.

Obviously there's no concrete way of knowing what is and isn't used so this challenge was always going to be "What I think" rather than "What IS"
I have 3k hours and I don't know if I've ever actually used it, cause why would you, it's a slight upgrade that takes a while to get when mech bosses are so easy, just sticking with titanium or orichalcum is enough
glad to see someone else using the sandgun, i have good memories using it in my no bullets/arrows ranger playthrough. a lot of genuinely fun weapons that playthrough made me use lol
4:41: I love Squirrel Hook. You actually can hook into trees and release shortly before you reach them to gain quite the speed boost. They're fast. Also for how early you can get them, it's nice to catch a fall if you don't have Slowfall yet.
@@danielalkateeb12 if by snowfall they meant featherfall potions, then theyre genuinely busted and youre missing out if you dont use them, it allows you to have the vertical movement control comparable to wings, while still being in pre hm, especially with the bundle of balloons
Even with people arguing over whether certain items count or not, I think the idea of the challenge is really cool! If you were to standardize it by trying to poll as many Terraria players as possible with a list of every item in the game, and a yes/no whether they’ve ever used it any reasonable length of time, that’d probably result in rules no one can argue, but it’d take a lot of effort…
Love this video! Btw, as someone who's used the sandgun a lot, using corrupt or hallowed sand will make it pierce and do 5 more damage per hit, definitely consider it.

You know what seems so incredibly slept on that I never see anyone use but absolutely shreds? The Paintball Gun. Low chance to drop when the Painter dies, so as soon as he moves in I make a submerged house so he spawns and drowns over and over. It's basically a slightly weaker minishark but with unlimited ammo, and is stupid cheap to reforge. I'll carry it as a ranger primary or an any class secondary all the way until WoF as unfortunately it doesn't pierce, but against King Slime, Eye, Skeletron, Queen Bee, and Deerclops, it does insane damage.

He could have also used the mushroom spear from the truffle too. Flintlock pistol could have been good early game. Not much people use the resonance scepter. Electrosphere launcher exists. Who uses the shadow flame hex doll or the shadow flame bow. Pulse bow is criminally underrated though it's hard to get. Not much people use the fetid bagnahks. Clinger staff and chain gilluotins I think they're called are also not used that much. I have more but I'm tired of typing so that's it.

this made me realize how odd my choices often are when i start a new playthrough. I often use the Crystal Vile shard, used the jetpack multiple times in modded (bc of how easy money is to get) and before 1.4 i used to fish for titanium as well. GG and great vid, loved the editing

10:28 You said that the desert has been decimated. Now the world decimated means to have 1/10th of something taken away, thus the prefix Deci. Funnily enough If it had only been decimated it would be in much better shape then it is right now!
I think it just means completely destroyed. It comes from the fact that Roman’s killed every 10th soldier if they lost a battle, every 10th soldier was decimated
i always use ancient shadow armor because it may be rare but it has the same stats as what you get from eow i use forbidden because im summoner user its slightly better than slider against the destroyer BUT with the crystal assasin armor you get a dash it would have been your only dash. also i love the editing.
Just going to say you probably could of used tine tools as I saw that you had a tin world, because nobody uses them cause it's a waste of resources. Other than that and the (evidently discussed) sanguine staff, you did really well on this challenge. Very entertaining video.
and the super star shooter was a bit of a fail on his part, it's easily one of the better hardmode weapons for a gun ranger, being useful all the way until Golem. There's the Uzi, though, which is usually skipped in progression as it's rare, with a 1% drop rate from Angry Trappers.
More than half, I used it against all 3 mech, queen slime, plantera, gollem, duke fishron and empress of light, the only reason I stopped using it was BC I got the terraprisma I did this in legendary mode...
In terms of under used stuff, a bunch of the weapons from plantera and gollum never seem to be used by me in any of my playthroughs, because there are usually much better options than the "leaf blower" or the "boulder staff". And the most underused summon's got to be the pirate staff, like who even touches that thing?
@@farisarm the meteor staff is excellent, a very powerful magic weapon available very early in hardmode that can quite comfortably smack around all three of the Mechs. The boulder staff drops from Golem, does underwhelming damage, and is affected by gravity, making it useless against late game bosses like moon lord, the Duke and Empress, who fly around above your head.
As a Mage and Summoner lover, I feel "hurt" that you said the forbidden armor is unused at 11:45 AND you also called my favorite summoner weapon unused....

@@flamm.e for sure, in all my playthroughs I usually do melee/ranger and even still the first thing I do when I spawn in is go to the snow biome and farm flynx for a flynx staff. Its just great for when I'm trying to build or don't feel like fighting and just want to mine, the minion handles the enemies. Especially building a hell bridge the enemies are so annoying and a minion makes it so I can just ignore most of the enemies

I literally beat moonlord today in Valhalla gear. The chest gives 4 hp regen.
i like to fly across my entire large world during every boss fight, so sentries dont really work for me

- Stellar Tune is a rare item from a boss that a lot of people skip out of fear, so there's one.
- The Desert Tiger staff is a minion you could use.
- The Toxic Flask is hardly used.
- Medusa's Head is a weapon I've literally never seen anyone have before.
- Deadly Sphere staff was unused even back before Summoner got other options at that point in progression.
- Probably shouldn't be able to use anything from Bone Lee.
- The Stardust Cell Staff is easily the least used Pillar weapon, so you could have used that.
Edit: You know, now I really wish there was a statistic for who builds what, just so we can see how many people actually make the drills.

I mean, why waste your time with the star cannon when you can just use literally anything for EOC literally anything piercing for EOW and/or BOC, the mini shark or boom stick or other guns for bee, the bee’s knees for skeletron (or mini shark if you don’t want to grind), and hellwing for wall.
The only reason to use star cannon is in very hard playthroughs such as the zeed or FTW or challenges where you are restricted in some capacity. And even then… Most people won’t bother to grind for 27 years to get a usable amount of stars, most will just persevere. Through, in summation, unless you’re doing a challenge run or (if you’re feeling like losing some time for some extra “easiness”) legendary mode, in most other cases, it simply isn’t worth to get.

Red riding armor is easily the most slept on armor set in the game. It's just.. better than shroomite armor, simply put.

the shroomite headpieces have multiplicative damage bonuses while red riding is additive. so you're wrong for the head at the very least
@@Jar_Jar_Twinks From the looks of it, the math on that _does_ add up. Using the stake launcher as an example because its total damage adds up to 100 (which makes calculations very convenient), the final average damage output of shroomite armor is 905 DPS, whereas red riding’s is 870.
_However,_ that's dependent on the ammo type being used. If you like using multiple weapon types, red riding is automatically better.
Also, it doesn’t take into account the extra damage given if you, for example, use an additional minion (which, realistically, you _probably_ should be using since it’s just free extra damage when you get down to it), which immediately bumps the damage output of the RR armor up past shroomite armor even if you only use a single ammo type.

Obviously there's no concrete way of knowing what is and isn't used so this challenge was always going to be "What I think" rather than "What IS"
I have 3k hours and I don't know if I've ever actually used it, cause why would you, it's a slight upgrade that takes a while to get when mech bosses are so easy, just sticking with titanium or orichalcum is enough

4:41: I love Squirrel Hook. You actually can hook into trees and release shortly before you reach them to gain quite the speed boost. They're fast.
Also for how early you can get them, it's nice to catch a fall if you don't have Slowfall yet.
You can do this with normal hooks aswell but it’s a bit more difficult

You know what seems so incredibly slept on that I never see anyone use but absolutely shreds? The Paintball Gun. Low chance to drop when the Painter dies, so as soon as he moves in I make a submerged house so he spawns and drowns over and over. It's basically a slightly weaker minishark but with unlimited ammo, and is stupid cheap to reforge. I'll carry it as a ranger primary or an any class secondary all the way until WoF as unfortunately it doesn't pierce, but against King Slime, Eye, Skeletron, Queen Bee, and Deerclops, it does insane damage.

Clinger staff and chain gilluotins I think they're called are also not used that much. I have more but I'm tired of typing so that's it.

I often use the Crystal Vile shard, used the jetpack multiple times in modded (bc of how easy money is to get) and before 1.4 i used to fish for titanium as well.

10:28 You said that the desert has been decimated. Now the world decimated means to have 1/10th of something taken away, thus the prefix Deci. Funnily enough If it had only been decimated it would be in much better shape then it is right now!
I think it just means completely destroyed. It comes from the fact that Roman’s killed every 10th soldier if they lost a battle, every 10th soldier was decimated

i always use ancient shadow armor because it may be rare but it has the same stats as what you get from eow i use forbidden because im summoner user its slightly better than slider against the destroyer BUT with the crystal assasin armor you get a dash it would have been your only dash. also i love the editing.
Just going to say you probably could of used tine tools as I saw that you had a tin world, because nobody uses them cause it's a waste of resources. Other than that and the (evidently discussed) sanguine staff, you did really well on this challenge. Very entertaining video.
and the super star shooter was a bit of a fail on his part, it's easily one of the better hardmode weapons for a gun ranger, being useful all the way until Golem. There's the Uzi, though, which is usually skipped in progression as it's rare, with a 1% drop rate from Angry Trappers.

More than half, I used it against all 3 mech, queen slime, plantera, gollem, duke fishron and empress of light, the only reason I stopped using it was BC I got the terraprisma
I did this in legendary mode...
In terms of under used stuff, a bunch of the weapons from plantera and gollum never seem to be used by me in any of my playthroughs, because there are usually much better options than the "leaf blower" or the "boulder staff".
And the most underused summon's got to be the pirate staff, like who even touches that thing?

@@farisarm the meteor staff is excellent, a very powerful magic weapon available very early in hardmode that can quite comfortably smack around all three of the Mechs.
The boulder staff drops from Golem, does underwhelming damage, and is affected by gravity, making it useless against late game bosses like moon lord, the Duke and Empress, who fly around above your head.

@@flamm.e for sure, in all my playthroughs I usually do melee/ranger and even still the first thing I do when I spawn in is go to the snow biome and farm flynx for a flynx staff. Its just great for when I'm trying to build or don't feel like fighting and just want to mine, the minion handles the enemies. Especially building a hell bridge the enemies are so annoying and a minion makes it so I can just ignore most of the enemies
