This was kind of an unofficial dedication to DL guitarist Steve Clark who died in 1991 from alcohol poisoning. Two Steps Behind was released in 1992. Vivian Campbell replaced Clark.
'Two Steps Behind' by Def Leppard is a heartfelt ballad that speaks to the theme of unwavering support and devotion. The lyrics convey a message of being there for someone, even if they choose to walk away or face challenges on their own. The repeated assurance that the singer will be 'two steps behind' suggests a protective and supportive presence that respects the other person's need for space and independence, yet offers comfort and a reminder that they are not alone.
The metaphor of a shadow 'creepin' up inside you' could represent the inevitable feelings and thoughts that one cannot escape from, possibly hinting at the internal struggles one faces. The song acknowledges these struggles but also offers a sense of hope and companionship. The 'magic running through your soul' implies that there is something special and powerful within the individual, even if they can't fully grasp or possess it. This line serves to empower the listener, suggesting that they have an inner strength that they may not be fully aware of.

My sister's fav band is Def Leppard. I got front row seats next to the cat walk. They came out and played this on the cat walk all acoustic. I wasn't a huge fan before the concert. I left there a fan. They are phenominal live. They blew the roof off. One of the best concerts I've ever seen. I've been to about 70.

Def Leppard's Hysteria album spawned 7 hits that charted including Love Bites, pour Some Sugar on Me and Armageddon it.
Many people think there were one or 2 more songs that could have charted.
I literally wore out 3 cassette tapes in my Walkman. Great band!

The movie was last action hero. The song was cut out of the movie. If they shot the scene, it's probably out there as a deleted scene.

    • @bidwell13
      @bidwell13 5 месяцев назад +1

They used it in the closing credits. The producer of Last Action Hero wanted Def Leppard to do a song for the soundtrack and since they were touring couldn’t record a new song so they sent the different versions of this song and the producer loved it but remixed it and had Michael Kamen add an orchestral string section to the song for the soundtrack. This got the band to create the compilation album Retro-Active using B-side tracks. Funny thing I just watched the movie about an hour ago with my kid.

I ADORE this song; I think it was guitarist Phil Colin who suggested the accoustic version, which was picked up my the movie producers. There is a great version with Def Leppard and Taylor Swift's whole band. All guitars. Mind blowing. Also love these guys for how they waited for drummer Rick Allen after he lost his arm in a car accident. They also supported Steve Clark while he was going down the tubes with alcoholism. Great guys! Joe Elliott is the real deal. Not California guys but blokes from the Midlands. NOT a boy band; they rock HARD.

Lucky enough to get one of the few visitor visas for Eritrea in the New Year. Fantastic time getting to know a beautiful but heavily restricted place that is very much a time capsule from 100 years ago. BUT...an amazing beacon of the 'modern' world that we saw in Asmara was a young lady at the Ministry of Tourism who helped get us a travel permit to Keren was proudly sporting a Def Leppard t-shirt. I asked if she liked the music or knew about the band and she said no, but loved the graphic design. Iconic imagry as well as harmonic Yorkshire rock.

The line where he says they have "a new album coming out in October" was a reference to the band's history of making music. After they released their album Pyromania in 1983, their drummer Rick Allen was in a terrible car crash on New Year's Day 1984.
Three years later, Def Leppard released Hysteria in 1987; which gave them some of their best singles like "Pour Some Sugar on Me", and "Animal".
Following three years on the road, they went back to record more music; but they had issues with their then guitarist Steve Clark.
Clark had major bouts of alcoholism when he toured with the group. In August of 1990, the band gave him six months to clean up and get sober before he can come back to the group. He died in January of 1991.
Over the next year, they continued as a four-man group when they released Adrenalyze in 1992. They added a new guitar player, Vivian Campbell to replace Clark. They toured in the US and in the UK when you see them here in their hometown of Sheffield, England in 1993.

Def Leppard are just one of the best bands around - 80's on onwards. That was their softer side but are very able to rock and show their emotional side They are worth delving a lot deeper - although you don't have to go far as they were huge hit makers. Another ballad? Try 'Love Bites'.

Def Leopard is true blue great band material. They started off with songs a little harder. (Rocks Off (1st album '80), Rock of Ages (3rd Album '83), others). After their 3rd Album really got them main stream attention the drummer lost his arm in 1984. They had to change their style of music somewhat. After popping off albums nearly every year, it wasn't until '87 they came back.
Then they came out with some beast albums and songs. Different, but still amazing. Check out WOMEN off the Hysteria Album for a taste. The Hysteria album is a very, very good album.

If you can find the videos somewhere, there was a pretty cool episode on CMT Channel's show called Crossroads where they paired a pop/country star with a rock band. Def Leppard did an episode with Taylor Swift. It was really pretty cool as it was earlier in her career. For some reason, the videos were pulled from RUclips. But, sometimes you can find one if you search enough.
