Brett is a great person . He was doing a show in greenville sc when he got a call before the show began . His grandfather had passed away right before the show . No one knew this until about an hour into the show . He sat down on stage and started crying . He told us what had happened . He was very close with his grandfather . He said he decided to do the show instead of going back home . He dedicated a song to his grandfather and sung it setting there on stage crying .There wasnt a dry eye in the place by this time . He played on that night and finished the show . Awesome show I will never forget . Rock on Poison .🤘
Nunca escuché a poison aunque los conocía, ni fui su fan hasta que conocí está canción que dice mucha verdad y el dolor de ese veterano expresado por Brett me llega al corazón .
As a Marine who left the military in the mid 90s, I was welcomed home and thanked. Vietnam Vets were treated like crap. Spit on, called baby killers, abandoned by their government. Let this song remind you that even though the government says, thank you for your service, they don’t care about you. There are way too many homeless vets and veterans not receiving the medical attention they need. As the decades pass and veterans are promised help, it remains the same, no help from the government. To the Vietnam Vets who weren’t thanked, I thank you
My uncle served two tours in Vietnam. He didn't have to go back, but decided to. He earned two purple hearts, bronze stars, many other medals and accommodations. He was found in his apartment (alone) and his death certificate says something like 'under investigation' he's interned in Arlington National Cemetery (section 54 grave 3337)... so very similar to the part about the Vietnam vet in the song. However, I don't know if he had medical issues or if it was something else (self inflicted). And yes it's sad that many are used by the government and just tossed aside, especially when a lot of them escape going and are like the ones described in CCR's "Fortunate Son"
Agreed, C.C. could compete with anyone from that era without doubt. As she says in the video, those guys from that time could pull emotions from a single cord, it wasn't all about speed and technicalities, it was about the story telling, thank god I grew up then instead of now 😅
You're not supposed to think that this man being your favorite band in high school means you lived during those days. You're not old. 😊 No but for real there are so many people from a newer or younger generation that are digging into things like guns and roses 🌹. Next time you see somebody with a Nirvana or GNR please just ask them what is their favorite track. Sit back and see how they react. I guess what I'm saying is as a student that most kids don't even know what they're wearing other than "it's cool. " Give me a Nirvana song or give me a GNR track. Oh I just bought it cuz I saw other people wearing it and makes me really cool 😎❤ you're lucky that you were around to listen to these guys. Peace
Poison is definitely a rabbit hole you should go down!! FYI: The story of this video, that makes it so authentic is that the producers didn’t tell Brett that the scenes playing on the big screen were actually videos of people he knew.
This is a great song. There are two stories in this song. The first verse about Vietnam vets but the second verse that starts 'My Best Friend Died a lonely man...' is actually written about his body guard and friend James Maano who had died. Those are pictures of him in the clip and were added without Brett Michael's knowing and he got very emotional while filming this which can be seen..
actually, there are 4 stories: the first is about televangelist scammers, the second about a vietnam vet, the third about his friend that died and the fourth is about poor people and the inequality between them and the rich who live only "a mile away"
you get it when you talk about playing with feeling and you can tell it's real, you have been blessed with the gift of loving music and it stays with you for life. i know alot of people who don't get it and could care less, if they only knew what they were missing
“My best friend died a lonely man”, just a kick in the guts! And the look on Brett’s face when he tries to sing the mirror mirror part and you can see it breaking him up. Just moving beyond comprehension 😓
They did not tell him they had that footage of his friend. when he saw it almost lost it, and after that verse he had to excuse himself for a while to compose himself.
@@Maltirishe was on The Big Interview with Dan Rather on Axstv. He actually excused himself for a few minutes. He obviously still gets upset and cries while talking about the passing of his best friend. It was a great interview. The Big Interview with Dan Rather is a great show.
This song was a call out to all the men who fought in Vietnam and their struggles as a result of an ldiotic government war strategy and a SHAMEFUL public reaction to those brave soldiers "losing". They did what they could and did it admirably but were hamstrung by our worthless government.
It's sad how my dad was treated after serving 2 tours in vietnam. As a Marine. I followed in his foot steps. Joined the marines right out of H.S., Served 18 yrs, 3 wars and a total of 6 deployments. Always felt guilty and embarrased everytime i came home and was treated like some sort of super-hero. To all of us who served, it was just a job.
For reference, this song was several albums into their career, at a time when the band was "growing up" lyrically and musically. Their earlier material isn't anywhere near this dark or deep. They were basically a sillier Motley Crue in their early days.
Here's some great ones by Poison.. "Unskinny Bop" "Talk Dirty To Me" "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" "Nothin' But A Good Time" I grew up in the 80's, so I know my Poison.. 😌😁🎸🎶
To me, CC's guitar solo sounds like someone crying. Its sounds like someone sobbing heavily, ugly crying, and a scream at the end that fades away. You don't listen to it, you FEEL it. Love this reaction!
@@chrisoakley5830 agreed. if I was starting a band and I had my pick of '80's guitarists. my pool is very small. I'm choosing from CC Deville, Slash, Dave Mustain, and EVH, oh..and can't forget Angus. 🤘🥰
Absolutely, I was just thinking the same thing. I think CC was never given the credit he was due. Even in their more fun songs, his playing was spot on, but the way his guitar wails and screams and cries in this song, especially during that solo, is fantastic. She touched on it... even more than the heavy and somber lyrics, CC's playing is what makes tears swell up when I listen to this.
Wow this hit me hard I’m a 47 year old man and this one got me.❤😢and history repeats we are in a possible war soon and the homelessness is worse than ever unbelievable that this was written so long ago and nothing has changed 😢
The bit he sings about his best friend is true. His bodyguard, and he was the guy in the video clips you see playing. There is actually another version of this song they recorded with different verses. The chorus is still the same, but verses have the same kinda impact as the ones in the most well known version.
yup. still remember this story breaking on Mtv news. then like 6mos later we got this beautiful song. ( least it felt like it was 6mos could have been longer )
@@nadjasunflower1387 Sure his name was something like Kiko or Kimo. I do remember an interview with Bret around the time of the songs release, and you could still see how much it hurt discussing him.
Poison was always a trendy/party band but CC's solo's were stellar. I remember buying this tape to hear CC's solos. You should do a reaction to Fallen Angel.
Always have loved Poison. I was a senior in high school when Look What the Cat Dragged In was released. All of their songs were great to me. Something to Believe in was one of their best ballad songs. Life Loves a Tragedy hits me also. You can't go wrong reacting to most any Poison song.
CC generally gets a bad rap as a guitarist, probably mainly cause back in the day he had a bad drug problem and was pretty sloppy live, but sober CC is an incredible guitarist and writer. One thing about his solo's is every note is there for a reason, and he is really good at his solo's being a reflection of the song/story. Another amazing emotional solo is Poisons' Life Goes On, from the same album as Something to Believe in. It's considered by many as his best solo. And it's another really great ballad, not as "heavy" but still a really good ballad. But they also have their "fun" songs too, like Talk dirty to me (when they were really heavy into the glam), I Won't forget you, I want Action, Nothin' but a good time, Fallen Angel, Every Rose, Unskinny Bop, Ride the Wind...
The bar for guitarists was really high in the 80s. What most of them never figured out was that Eddie Van Halen's real genius was in composing great music, not how many notes he could play per second.
My 1st time listening to Poison was Talk Dirty To Me back when Look What The Cat Dragged In was first released. They've been one of my favorite bands ever since.
Love your reactions! Poison made my last year of High School so much fun. Their first album alone had so many hits, and that's rare for a band to do. Talk Dirty To Me, Unskinny Bop, Nothin but a Good Time, and their cover of Your Momma Don't Dance, are all bangers. They also have another amazing ballad called Every Rose Has Its Thorn. I think you'll love all these tunes. I've also heard that Brett Michaels is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. It's said that he's amazingly humble. When I graduated in the late 80's, Vietnam still affected a lot of people. So when, "something to believe in" came out, it really touched a lot of people with military families. And even the homeless issue did as well as many of those vets were homeless for years after they came home. Even some more current vets end up homeless when their PTSD is too difficult for them to manage a normal life. Thank you for the hard work you put into your channel. Watching you experience and like the music I grew up with is really kinda amazing. I'd like to recommend "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Warant. They, too, are an amazing band, and I think that Brett Michaels and Jani Lane (Warant's lead) sound and look a lot a like. Jani's story is quite amazing. He passed away in 2011 from cancer, I believe, and he too has always been regarded as a super nice guy.
They did an acoustic version as well, that has different lyrics, but still hits just as hard. Most of their songs are more upbeat, Nothin' but a Good Time, Unskinny Bop, Talk Dirty to Me are more of their fun songs, and their biggest track (commercially) is Every Rose has it's Thorn. Its more about how as the band became famous it made other relationships suffer. They have a ton of great songs!
It hits the feels alright. Lost an old friend(grade/high school buddy) a year ago.. this song came to mind. I loved this song back then but my old friend didn't like cause it was 'too much' hitting the feels.
This is a personal favorite song of mine, the one with Vietnam vet, and his bodyguard friend, Kimo is relatable and he really cried because he care for his friend. That is something important for me.
Know alot of nam vets trained by them know a few of medal of honor recipients who are alive and say it is what it is is because they lived but they didn’t deserve the welcome home my god people don’t understand thanks 🙏 guys
I like listening to these 1980s and 1990s ballads. I think it's about time for someone to please bring back these old school rock ballads since my generation is wanting

Danny Gunn R.I.P Little Brother, it's been 30+ years and I still miss you everyday...
I think what Brett Michaels has in his voice that you were commenting about is a sincerity and honesty. Not many singers have it, but when he sings you know it's coming straight from his heart and he's being real.
When you mentioned how the guitar made you feel it brought to mind the song Guitar Man by Bread. Part of the verse He can make you love He can get you high He will bring you down Then he'll make you cry
So this is probably my favorite poison song. I hear it almost every day, but I haven’t seen this video in almost 30 years since I was a kid and it hit me. It’s so many emotions.
now we are into my teenage years! theres alot from the 'hair metal' genre that is brilliant. so much good music to dive into there. this one always hits hard. thank you and good afternoon!
This song has always made me cry even when I was a kid and it first came out. It is like it resonated with something hidden deep in my soul. I have from time to time felt almost like it brings up suppressed memories from another life.
I mean I was 7 when this came out and even tough I did have a rough childhood so I could relate on that level it always felt more personal then that to me like I was reliving personal history and memories but that I just could not fully continously remember. It always felt like the song was telling my story (and I don't mean my rough childhood or its related similar tramas). I have never been able to really come up with an explanation as to why other then maybe a past left as a veteran of said war that died some time before I was born. I have always also had a closer connection to stories and movies and that war and its vets when they cover things like POW and PTSD and post war isolation and feelings of the government and more so the people turning their backs on the vets after the war. Movies that detect some real battles from the war (especially if in a documentary type style) also sometimes have a similar effect and I don't have the same level of reaction to most other wars (there are some here and there again the more close they are to the real battle the more strong the reaction when it happens. But it is not as often or as deep and connection. Maybe like old vs new memories where you remembernew memoriesmore vividly then older ones and you remembermore of the new ones then the older ones).
My father is a Vietnam veteran, and he still to this day he doesn't want to talk about it and I asked him do you ever want to reach out to his fellow brothers and he told me no because he wants to forget what went on over there, my Father is still alive,85 years young and still going on strong,he is my hero, my everything.
I grew up listening to Poison, they were my favorite band. To me, this was they best song by far lyrically. So much emotion behind this song. I got a chance to meet Bret Michaels later on when he went solo in Nashville TN as a small bar venue and he was the nicest person, very friendly guy, spoke to me for about 15 minutes before the show started. We talked about our kids (his youngest is a week older than my daughter) and about tattoos ( I had just gotten my first tat that day). I remember he asked me if I thought I would ever get another one because once you get one you want more and at the time I was like nope but now I've got 6. We also talked about diabetes, because we both have it. He has type 1 and I have type 2. He was diagnosed when he was 5 or 6, he talks about it in one of his songs on his solo album Freedom of Sound. You should check out some of his solo stuff off that album, it's really good.
The part about his friend dying lonely was written a week or two after a friend of his had committed suicide, and that part of the song was the band's trying to come to terms with it. When I first heard it, I was surprised a hard-rocking band put a slower song out, and yet, I consider it now to be one of their best. In a time of "party all the time" songs, it was something different, and something that made many of us take a look at the world around us and see the consequences that go with the good in life.
i was in high school in the late 70s , i worked with vietnam vets they came home but they really never came back . To all vets Thanks you for all you do ,God Bless.
Back when every band had to have a "Power Ballad" on an album. They're a fun band. Another power ballad ais "Every Rose Has Its Thorn". Then the fun songs "Unskinny Bop", "You're Mama Don't Dance", "Fallen Angel", "Look What the Cat Dragged In" and a few others.
Yeah, the guitar solos are what makes these 80s songs so memorable to people. It’s a subconscious thing most people never realize. I’m amazed you actually caught it. In this song the solo brilliantly screams agony and loss, yet sounds amazing and beautiful at the same time.
I graduated High School in 1989 and Poison was in their prime, and great. Every Rose has it's thorn will always be one of the best songs ever but Poison was a very upbeat hype band, good reaction!!
Great reactions and you are right on about the solo. Cece is a genius, very underrated. For me, this song's solo is up there with pink Floyd comfortably numb (which is by far the best example of a guitar solo as a voice in the song), which you should check out if you don't know it.
I love Poison, been a fan for a long time. This is actually my favorite song from them and I listen to it often. Every Rose has it's thorn is another great Ballad. If you are into just some good feel good music try Unskinny Bop and Nothin But a Good Time.
This and every rose has its thorn are in my top 10 songs of all time. Then the story behind both pushes them into my top 5 because once you know the reasons, you know that emotion is real.
You nailed it exactly a guitar solo is supposed to be. It should be like the guitar starts singing. cc Deville is a very underrated. His solos always compliment the song.
I have watched and enjoyed a few of your reactions prior to this one... but your reaction here earned my subscription and full notification to your channel
To your point about the guitar solo having that kind of wailing emotion. The solo in this song reminds me of an amazing instrumental called Cryin’ by Joe Satriani. Amazing emotional guitar work if you’re interested.
"sometimes i wish to god i didnt know now the things i didnt know then" understand that more and more each and everyday since i first heard that line as a teenager all those years ago
Such a great meaningful ballad. I was hooked so much on Looked What the Cat Dragged in and the Open up and Say....ahh albums in high school. I know this came of the Flesh and Blood album. Them G&R and Def Leppard, plus others.
you should of course also check out the quintessential power ballad, also by Poison, Every Rose has Its Thorn, in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey the chorus was used as the meaning of life.... great song also
For a party Rock Band to deliver something so personal to them was highly underrated at the time. CC's solo is haunting. If you want another that smacks you in the guts, try 'I Saw Red', by Warrant
Look what the Cat dragged in, Talk Dirty to Me, I Won't Forget you, Fallen Angel, Every Rose Has it's Thorn, Ride the Wind, I Want Action, Love on the Rocks....there's a start for you.
Weird to have this as your first experience with poison, although it's probably my favorite, they are usually a party band like talk dirty to me or nothin but a good time check some of those out...
I loved your face during C.C.'s guitar solo lol, I will always defend that his name should be in any conversation for the most talented guitarist ever.

Poison? "Life goes one" "Falling Angel"
Rock music speaks to your soul like no other kind
Would love to see your reaction to White Lion - When The Children Cry
33 years and it still brings a tear to my eye...
I was born in the 70s and grew up listening to this stuff, a lot of great songs within the 80s hair band genre.
They have a ton of great songs!
its thorn. not "it's" thorn
It hits the feels alright. Lost an old friend(grade/high school buddy) a year ago.. this song came to mind.
I loved this song back then but my old friend didn't like cause it was 'too much' hitting the feels.
You nailed it, a good guitar solo for a song like this is the emotion you feel reflected
Poison is one of the best but now underrated bands of the 80s
This song is a great showcase of what Poison could have offered if they'd been able to get out of their own way.
I think what Brett Michaels has in his voice that you were commenting about is a sincerity and honesty. Not many singers have it, but when he sings you know it's coming straight from his heart and he's being real.
Flesh & BLood was their magnum opus. Apex of their careers. Great stuff.
I like that you get into the emotion of a song, you seem to have a deeper soul
When you mentioned how the guitar made you feel it brought to mind the song Guitar Man by Bread. Part of the verse
He can make you love
He can get you high
He will bring you down
Then he'll make you cry
It’s a great guitar solo. The instrumentation adds so much emotion, you’re correct. You won’t hear it anywhere in todays music
One of my favorite Poison songs. Hits hard and deep
My favorite band back in the day...about his friend Kimo passing around Christmas.he in the video
So this is probably my favorite poison song. I hear it almost every day, but I haven’t seen this video in almost 30 years since I was a kid and it hit me. It’s so many emotions.
the other to check out is every rose has a thorn. another emotional roller-coaster.
now we are into my teenage years! theres alot from the 'hair metal' genre that is brilliant. so much good music to dive into there. this one always hits hard. thank you and good afternoon!
Listening to Poison on the Alpine back in the day was a good time.
A very underrated song indeed, and your reaction to it was marvelous, young lady. Thanks for sharing.
This my favorite reaction. Some of us still cry. Pain is real
Pain and sadness for the vets didn’t deserve it did there damn job js respect ✊
When they played this live back in the day on tour. They brought in a choir to sing on the chorus. Made it more powerful.
i was in high school in the late 70s , i worked with vietnam vets they came home but they really never came back . To all vets Thanks you for all you do ,God Bless.
Hey,, I really appreciate you and your beautiful reactions to this song/video. Thumbs up to You~John
Purple hair and black eye liner… fits this song sooooo well XD
I love Poison ❤️ they have so many awesome songs 🎵 😍 👏
Great reactions and you are right on about the solo. Cece is a genius, very underrated. For me, this song's solo is up there with pink Floyd comfortably numb (which is by far the best example of a guitar solo as a voice in the song), which you should check out if you don't know it.
My favorite Poison song! 😊
Amazing song!!! Great band .
I love Poison, been a fan for a long time. This is actually my favorite song from them and I listen to it often. Every Rose has it's thorn is another great Ballad. If you are into just some good feel good music try Unskinny Bop and Nothin But a Good Time.
Love your video ! Great job. I grew up with them being my first influence especially with being a guitarist. Cc made me wanna play since I was 6
This and every rose has its thorn are in my top 10 songs of all time.
Great reaction. Yeah that guitar solo😢 was crying ❤
exactly. crying, sobbing, and wailing at the end.
Great reaction ❤☺️
Such a great meaningful ballad. I was hooked so much on Looked What the Cat Dragged in and the Open up and Say....ahh albums in high school. I know this came of the Flesh and Blood album. Them G&R and Def Leppard, plus others.
This is one of their Best , known as a glam metal band hit hard with this song
His bodyguard(bestfriend) did pass away. That's whit this song was written.
The lyric , my best friend died a lonely man , that's Brett Michael bodyguard
If I remember right it was River Pheonix.
this is a song that every single human being can relate to and leave it there
To all that serve and all that have served. A greatful nation thanks you all!
you should of course also check out the quintessential power ballad, also by Poison, Every Rose has Its Thorn, in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey the chorus was used as the meaning of life.... great song also
For a party Rock Band to deliver something so personal to them was highly underrated at the time. CC's solo is haunting.
If you want another that smacks you in the guts, try 'I Saw Red', by Warrant
The best deep song of theirs. A masterpiece!
Every rose has it's thorn: classic painful ballad like this one, but unique, too.
I loved your face during C.C.'s guitar solo lol, I will always defend that his name should be in any conversation for the most talented guitarist ever.
The friend in the song was James Kimo Maano his best friend and personal security guard.
