I believe he added the lyrics "We belong together." in this unplugged version. I don't remember them being in the studio version. I think it really adds to the emotion to this powerful song.
Eddie Vedder wrote this song after experiencing some very personal and extremely painful events in his life. He has stated that it was never his intention for this song to be released. By pure happenstance, one of the record producers overheard this song and loved it-literally begging Eddie multiple times to allow it to be on the record. Yeah, Eddie was one of a kind. He started at a time when a lot of the popular stuff was high end belting hair metal stuff. Pearl Jam, Nirvana and a few others finally broke that and I found it a breath of fresh relief.

TBH I probably wouldn't have been able to watch it three weeks ago. I really identify with this song because we were both artists and she has my nick name tattooed on her still. "bitter hands, broken glass, world to black" all of it resonates with me.

Grundge music was the era of artists diving deep down into their feelings and gutting themselves on stage (or in the studio) before Emo Music was a thing. It will forever be my favorite era of music. Pearl Jam was such a great band precisely because Eddie was such a great storyteller. He put himself into different characters in his songs, sometimes shifting between points of view. His lyrics are sometimes impressionistic, but they give you enough to paint a story in your mind. I highly recommend checking out the songs "Daughter," "Better Man", and" Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town." How's that title for storytelling?
I am just so glad that I saw them live a few years ago, being ex mil and never been in one spot long enough to enjoy the roses. Especially now 50+. I had their first album on cd when it came out. Absolutely fantastic!

What’s hilarious is I was thinking that shirt with your hair coloring = chefs kiss when you were saying that about the performance. Loved the reaction and the fit.
Yes, the dawn of the 1990s, when low singing voices came back into prominence. Thinking about it, Pearl Jam’s massive commercial success, fronted by Eddie’s baritone, must’ve played a huge role in that. Guess he paved the way for low male singers everywhere. Excellent analysis and points made.
Crazy dudes like 55 now lol..still sings his ass off. Nice reaction 💯 And tbh Eddie is like the last remaining from the grunge era. Gotta give respect ❤
He had his heart broken and revealed it to the world here!! And had to settle for a gorgeous French model who he married and raised a family with!! Well done Eddie you are the greatest

i know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky if those words don't hit home as far as the quite candid his lyrics shit makes me tear up but they have quite a few songs and the passion they bring
If you liked it that much i recommend "Jeremy" also Pearl Jam official video(uncut only). Eddy has not only a great voice, but is for me the method actor of grunge era. He can really go full in and represent all emotions live he put in a song. Not many can do that. Also recommend Audioslave "Like a stone" and Soundgardens "Fell on Black Days" to show you the magic of chris cornell. Also one of the big 4 of the grunge era and one of the greatest singers of all time. If you need something special and different i highly recommend also Aurora "It happened quiet"(live at the current), she is unique and her voice is incredible. She also made a feat. with the Band Wadruna live called "Helvegen" written in the style of old nordic music. Also highly recommended, not without a reason it got so big.
Probably my all time fav Pearl Jam song. Really gets in my feels. I am so glad I grew up in this era. I am also really happy to see another generation enjoying bands from this timeframe.
I think this will never happen but i wish to see you reacting to Pearl Jam - Garden. It is such an underrated song, it has so much emotion and meaning, different interpretations. Musically it's just a beautiful arrangement, it touches you if you dive into it.
Gods damn it. I can't seem to get away from this song this week. I made it through this reaction without breaking down, okay, yeah, but the tears were _right fucking there,_ and I guess I don't hate being on the edge of a sobbing fit in this case, but then there's you _visibly_ feeling the song, and I may speak for a sizeable section of your audience saying that the fact that you look a bit like Serenity's mechanic, Kaylee Frye, adds a whole 'nother level of heart-wrench to the situation. So I just subscribed. I follow too many reaction Tubers, but I can't seem _not_ to, I may have a problem. And yeah, a Gen-X metalhead can tell you, we have to get away from this song for a while, now and then. I don't know what exactly was happening to us all in the nineties, but so many of us have held that handful of broken glass, have suffered that spinning, have that closed off little blackened room in our hearts of comfortably painful memories of that one lover that lit the world so brightly, and left us for calmer skies _(you can't take the sky from me)._ I don't know if they wrote songs like this before Pearl Jam did. I can't really recall any like it since. I don't really want to think about it now, 'cause like I said, we Gen-Xers have to get away from it for a while, now and then. _Something changed_ in music in the nineties. I think. Maybe I'm telling myself stories. But I find an honest, open expression of pain in some music from the time that just _wasn't fucking happening_ before then. Not just, _oh, I got the blues,_ but how deep those blues were, who they came from, what they're doing to us, and such detailed expression of how those blues _feel._ It's all a bit too real. I'm going to start avoiding this song 'til my strength rebuilds, but this was a great reaction to break the contact off with. Good work, Ray. Good work.
Uhh. If I could like this 1 million times, I would!! Not because I necessarily agree with everything you wrote. .. .but because I "support" everything you wrote!

"...All the love gone bad turned my world to black, tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll be..." it fucking crushes your heart till this day just hearing this line in Eddie's vocals, something these days music will ever achieve.
"my bitter hands cradle broken glass" may be one of the most powerful and evocative metaphors to ever be placed in the span of 6 words. The ending escalates the emotion to incredible levels, but this imagery sets it up so well.
I love Pearl Jam. This song and "Jeremy" are probably my favorites among a few others that I've heard on the radio for the last 20 years. The video for the song, "Jeremy" is very hard hitting because it reminds me of when I was in school dealing with bullies and the way I felt at the time. For a while, I thought suicide was my only way out. I'm glad I decided against it. If you haven't seen it yet, I would highly recommend "Jeremy." Keep it metal. \m/
i love when...gosh i dont mean disrespect, but i love when the kids of today analyze what i grew up on...not even grew up; hell, i was in high school when TEN came out...but i love it....nice job!

Yes, the dawn of the 1990s, when low singing voices came back into prominence. Thinking about it, Pearl Jam’s massive commercial success, fronted by Eddie’s baritone, must’ve played a huge role in that. Guess he paved the way for low male singers everywhere. Excellent analysis and points made.
oh my. My favorite person online right now
Eddie Vedder has a gift... a raw, genuine gift.
Always here for someone recognizing this mans genious. Good to know grunge is still appreciated. And Eddie must be protected at all cost!
Crazy dudes like 55 now lol..still sings his ass off. Nice reaction 💯
And tbh Eddie is like the last remaining from the grunge era. Gotta give respect ❤
Just bought my ticket to see them this summer
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star. But why? Why? Can't it be mine?" that line gets me every time.
Very nice, very very fun! Enjoyed watching this quite a bit. :)
It’s amazing how many singers and vocal coaches have never heard this song and have reaction videos
I'll never get sick of watching people experience Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder, especially through this song.
He had his heart broken and revealed it to the world here!! And had to settle for a gorgeous French model who he married and raised a family with!! Well done Eddie you are the greatest
It was so good watching you hear this for the first time ❤ I have loved Pearl Jam & this song since it was released in the 90’s, high school rocked 👍
Enjoy ☺️
This song perfectly captures the feeling of heartache.
Eddie had a pretty bad cold and was sick during this unplugged. Still magic.
He's always been one of my favorite singers, since ALIVE.
i know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky if those words don't hit home as far as the quite candid his lyrics shit makes me tear up but they have quite a few songs and the passion they bring
Yea yea yea! It is a wonderful song and got lost in the shuffle with all the other greats off this record
Did you hear the lyric. " I know some day you'll have a beautiful life. I know you will be a sun,,,,,in somebody else's skyies"""wow that got me.....
“That was a lovely sound.”
Yep, seductive.
You nailed it.
Country wishes they could sound like this
Gods damn it.
Not just, _oh, I got the blues,_ but how deep those blues were, who they came from, what they're doing to us, and such detailed expression of how those blues _feel._
It's all a bit too real.
Eddie Vedder ist eine unschlagbare Legende. Ich liebe sein Gesang. Wer sich bei diesem Lied nicht in ihn verliebt ist ein Stein! ;) Gruß aus Schleswig-Holstein.
this is my first video review/reaction of yours i've watched but i'm really enjoying it and i've subscribed :)
As we say here in Portugal..."um perfeito fado"..... For me the best live performance I saw until today... But I am suspicious, I am a Pear Jam fan since ever...
30 odd years later Eddie is still getting girls to fall in love with him , Go Pearl Jam !
This is Live! Each of the big 4 did an Unplugged, all were Amazing. Check out Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and other Pearl Jam Unplugged.
STP’s unplugged is my personal favorite! Right after AIC and PJ
Big 5. STP is definitely a part.
Big 4 was Thrash. Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Slayer
Thanks for doing this vid. PJ has been My Favorite Band All Time and I have seen them 7 times in 4 different Cities. Eddie Vedder is one of the best live Vocalists of all time! (Rolling Stone Voted 7th of all time) Eddie and the Band dont put on Performances rather Experiences that We are just fortunate enough to wittness. Ironically in this MTV Unplugged “Experience” He had a cold/bronchitis so can You imagine!
Great Reaction Young Lady 👏🏻
"...All the love gone bad turned my world to black, tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll be..." it fucking crushes your heart till this day just hearing this line in Eddie's vocals, something these days music will ever achieve.
This may have been the best reaction to this song that I have seen yet.
She spotted so many key elements that most everyone else misses.
Great job beautiful input❤
This take me back to my college years. Best time of my life!
Early 90’s with Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and more was the best and last time we had such great live perfomers (no auto tune).
Love the fact that everyone, boys and girls are in love with him😂 Eddie is the best
Yeah Eddie has a very unique voice, Love me some Pearl Jam, thanks for the share have never saw there unplugged so this is nice.
You are fantastic! I love watching you!
"my bitter hands cradle broken glass" may be one of the most powerful and evocative metaphors to ever be placed in the span of 6 words. The ending escalates the emotion to incredible levels, but this imagery sets it up so well.
My bitter hand chafe beneath the clouds of what was everything.
The best line in the song for me.
You gave a really great reaction / review of this performance !
i love when...gosh i dont mean disrespect, but i love when the kids of today analyze what i grew up on...not even grew up; hell, i was in high school when TEN came out...but i love it....nice job!
