I love reaction videos like this, because you genuinely feel you are sitting with the person while they experience it. Plus, the fact you took interest in the lyrics and took a deep dive into them while listening is great. "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star, in somebody else's sky, but why, why, why can't it be, can't it be mine?" is one of the most retro-romantic and melancholic lines ever written. Subscribed. :-)
Since you love acoustic live performances may be the most powerful ever is Nirvanas's "where did you sleep last night" on their unplugged concert which is why Pearl Jam did one.
I know this has been posted for a while, but when I saw it, I just had to click on it. This particular song, and Eddie's voice reminds me of every bad break up I've ever experienced. His voice holds all the feelings I had, and it's just everything. He is everything. I love Pearl Jam so much I influenced my daughter to be a lifelong fan of them. Eddie Vedder definitely belongs in the PDC, no question about it!
Eddie Vedder has a very distinctive voice and this has always been one of my favourite songs. If you are looking for others in the same genre then I would strongly recommend Chris Cornell - Billie Jean, Nothing Compares to You, or just about any song from any group he performed with. Chris was a one of a kind talent that helped shape the music of an era.
“I know one day you will have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be a star in someone else’s sky but why can’t it be mine” One of my favorite lines in any song. Super relatable and is pain perfectly worded.
Yeah that star in somebody else's sky lyric just hits home. We've all been there, I think. Lamenting a love lost and bemoaning it. Some of us are mature enough to know that it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all but most of us, like Eddie Vedder, just feel bitter as it becomes a black hole sun. Anyway, it's one of the bestest/most poetic lines in the history of pop music (in my opine) because it's so ripe for interpretation. This version is better than the album track, btw. So thanks for tuning to it. Cheers, Britt
Great choice! I've been doing this song in every band since college. I love how people always sing along when we play it. It's my vocal range, so it doesn't kill my voice as much as other songs. I still sing it, but an acoustic version. Eddie Vedder started this sound and Pearl Jam are way more legendary and talented than Nirvana. Listen to Jeremy when you get a chance. I auditioned on the Voice with that song. I lost a bet and that was my friends request. 😬 Have a good one! Slainte
You say slainte but where's the craic? Anyway, I played drums in a Pearl Jam cover band for a minute but our lead singer was female and it just didn't work. We thought going from Eddie's baritone to a more dynamic vocal would hit but... it didn't.
@brittreacts you mentioned 90's movies. They were in the 91 film Singles. Provided 2 songs for the soundtrack. State of Love and Trust and Breath. Eddie's voice evolves out of what you heard, and they are still putting out albums today. I'll make a donation to you for one of my favorite live performances if you tell me where I can do that.
I was in my early 20s when this episode of MTV Unplugged came out and I was completely ensconced in all things Seattle. My girlfriend at the time wasn't real familiar with Pearl Jam and I still remember her saying "I don't know who he's singing about but I hate her" after watching this performance. This performance is certainly worthy of your Pantie Dropping HOF and IMO one of the best live performances ever. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
There have been 2 times in my life I REALLY needed someone, and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder was there both times. This song, when my first wife left me, and “Breathe” when my newborn son quit breathing and spent 5 weeks in NICU. I will ALWAYS be a fan
"I'm pulling up the lyrics because I have some questions..." Everyone with every Pearl Jam song ever. Yellow Ledbetter is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with Pearl Jam. They are THE quintessential 90s rock band. Panty Droppers Club indeed. Eddie Vedder is phenomenal. Other than Yellow Ledbetter, some other great Pearl Jam songs: Jeremy Alive Better Man Even Flow Daughter Dissident "I know some day you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star, in somebody else's sky, but why, why, why can't it be, can't it be mine?" One of my favorite lyrics ever.
Feeling nostalgic so glad I found your channel. He sounds the same today. He’s the only great lyrical poets left of the grunge era since Chris passed in 2017.
Eddie Vedder definitely has that brooding artist vibe. It's a really attractive quality. This song reminds me a lot of "Creep", capturing that first love angst.
This is probably Eddie Vedder’s (singer) most vulnerable song he ever wrote. It’s about his ex wife Beth after she divorced him. Eddie was working at a gas station in San Diego and he got the demo and wrote this “Black”.

"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star, in somebody else's sky, but why, why, why can't it be, can't it be mine?" is one of the most retro-romantic and melancholic lines ever written. Subscribed. :-)
thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!!
Since you love acoustic live performances may be the most powerful ever is Nirvanas's "where did you sleep last night" on their unplugged concert which is why Pearl Jam did one.
Definitely in "the club"!!
GF you may enjoy their video Jeremy, took on a major social issue, fantastic piece of art, he's super intense!
I remember this song coming on at work the morning after the end of a very long relationship. I was in tears uncontrollably.
Eddie and Chris owned the 90s rock scene imo! ❤❤❤
Layne Staley has entered the chat.. jk
My opinion, but Staley was a 90's rock voice to be reckoned with.
Slainte
btw every singer sang this song in the 90's! Not unique for to me! 😆
You say slainte but where's the craic? Anyway, I played drums in a Pearl Jam cover band for a minute but our lead singer was female and it just didn't work. We thought going from Eddie's baritone to a more dynamic vocal would hit but... it didn't.
Memories of high school enter my mind when I hear any Pearl Jam songs! So good!
Great reaction! If you want another panty-dropping singer you should definitely check out Chino Moreno from the group Deftones.
haha thank you
OMG FINALLY!!!! I've been waiting for you to react to my all time favorite band 🤗🤗🤗
haha glad you enjoyed it !!
Eddie Vedder is a beautiful soul. This song has ALWAYS been my favorite and holds a strong connection with my life.
I just discovered your channel. I absolutely love your reactions and the beautiful positive energy that you project. Thank you ❤
I was in my early 20s when this episode of MTV Unplugged came out and I was completely ensconced in all things Seattle.
You are so good with reactions. I have to smile. Thank you!
I am so fascinated watching someone discover the music and comedy I grew up on.
There have been 2 times in my life I REALLY needed someone, and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder was there both times. This song, when my first wife left me, and “Breathe” when my newborn son quit breathing and spent 5 weeks in NICU. I will ALWAYS be a fan
This is the best analysis I have ever heard about this song. Great job Britt!
your reactions are always so great, fun, and authentic. make sure and listen to the regular album version of this song.
Other than Yellow Ledbetter, some other great Pearl Jam songs:
Jeremy
Alive
Better Man
Even Flow
Daughter
Dissident
"I know some day you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star, in somebody else's sky, but why, why, why can't it be, can't it be mine?" One of my favorite lyrics ever.
Sooo glad you pulled up the lyrics because he changed them up a little from the studio version.
Nice reaction. Greetings from Salta, Argentina. This song hits deep every time I listen to it.
Good song, nice reaction. That might be the most keywords I have ever seen in a description.
Feeling nostalgic so glad I found your channel. He sounds the same today. He’s the only great lyrical poets left of the grunge era since Chris passed in 2017.
Eddie... still making the ladies swoon a quarter century later... ✌️💙
Eddie Vedder definitely has that brooding artist vibe. It's a really attractive quality. This song reminds me a lot of "Creep", capturing that first love angst.
Sound still gives me chills. Eddie is a legend.
I’ve listened to this song for 30 years and your video taught me the lyrics 😅 legs spread out.. 100%, right!?!
when one stands in the audience, one is caught up in all the vibe
one has to sing their heart out
sing your heart out
Gorgeous, I can't make my mind up , Eddie or yourself.
Still after all these years it gives me the goosebumps..
This is probably Eddie Vedder’s (singer) most vulnerable song he ever wrote. It’s about his ex wife Beth after she divorced him. Eddie was working at a gas station in San Diego and he got the demo and wrote this “Black”.
Eddie Vedder is a crooner and a damn good one he def belongs in PDC
The pantie dropping line had me rolling.
Thank you for that laugh.
I'm glad you pulled the lyrics
One of the Best Live Performances Ever, still love me some Britt too ❤
Damn right.
He drop all that.
And you dope for recognizing him as dope.
Shit is dope
