Great video, very useful! - How do these stack up on reliability? I mean what do you trade guys think about them long term? Is there a standout make known for for reliability right now? I'm only considering heat only options. Cheers
Thank you! Given you've been looking at the Greenstar Ri, I'm going to assume you have a regular boiler. The Greenstar Ri really stands out due to its exceptional efficiency and compact design, making it a top choice for small/medium size homes. Its quiet operation is a bonus, especially in open-plan living spaces or near bedrooms. Plus, it's compatible with smart controls for easy temperature management, blending modern convenience with eco-friendly performance. In essence, the Greenstar Ri is a smart, space-saving, and sustainable choice for your heating needs.
@@Heatable Brilliant thanks 🙏 Yeah regular (very old) floor standing boiler, but also a big thermal store tank with solar, so just looking at heat only replacement. It’s between the Greenstar Ri or maybe Baxi 800 heat only. Cheers
what is the external central heating pump, a 3-port control valve shown in the video? suitable for Ri12 /Ri15 Which model Worcester Bosch Greenstar System Filter? Thanks!
You don't actually say whether you think this boiler is the best on the market - just that it's popular. I have had a Greenstar Ri 24 KW since 2006 (16 years) and apart from a new heat exchanger last year (covered by the service contract) nothing has gone wrong. Should I replace it? Is there anything better (more efficient) or should I just hang on and wait for heat pumps to be more affordable?
Well, it arguably is the best on the market, but we've got to state the facts that it is the most popular. If your boiler is still working, then the only reason to replace it would be for efficiency. Boilers of that age are usually around 76% efficiency, whereas new boilers are at 90%+ efficiency. You'd save a lot on your energy bills by investing in a new boiler, especially with the inevitable rises coming up!
@@Heatable Would it be fair to say that the efficiency drop is mostly down to the heat exchanger and once replaced, it would not be worth replacing the boiler unless it had other issues?
@@petertwiss4215 Hey Peter, heat exchangers contribute a significant proportion of efficiency drop, mainly due to carbon build up and material degradation. However, other components such as circulating pumps, diverters, plate heat exchangers and pressure vessels (for combi and system boilers) also affect long term product efficiency. Another consideration is the economical viability of the general condition of the boilers wider component assembly.
Good video - btw, the bits of humour in the videos are better. I have an old Myson regular boiler which has a timer dial to set when the boiler heats the hot water for heating or usage from taps. I'm assuming that my boiler is a regular boiler and it would seem that the Worcester wouldn't be an option as a replacement am I correct?
Hi Marcus, your Myson is 99% a regular boiler as they didn't produce any combi's and very few system boilers. A Worcester Bosch RI would be a great replacement as it is a regular a boiler but it is also high efficiency and condensing.
@@Heatable Thanks. I'll be looking to replace the boiler at the end of the year/early next year and have added Heatable as a possible provider since you also arrange installation. Just weighing up my options at the moment and trying to understand a bit more about boilers and heating as I know very, very little about them. Just to clarify on the Worcester in the video. if there's no timer, then I guess the boiler would basically be on all of the time but running on a very low power mode hardly using any gas but still sending a continuous supply of hot water to the cylinder?
Very good informative video. Came across it whilst looking to see if I have my Greenstar 18ri on the best temp setting. Which I think I have. It's in the 2 o clock position which based on the way the dial is configured I reckon is comfortably over 60c. Had another of these gas boilers previously and that lasted approximately 13 years. Current one installed 2019. I highly recommend these. 😊
Any chance Heatable can review your top 3 most efficient system boilers? Viessman 200-W? Times are really tough so this review may help those keen to install the most frugal option available.
Can you help with this boiler as I have terrible hot water pressure in my house using this boiler and I can't figure out how to fix it. I could add a pump but I have been told the thermostatic shower I have would be unusable.
Could be an issue with your motorised actuator. Mine had a similar problem and it wasn't correctly stopping the flow of hot water to the rads when there was only demand for HW. Simple cheap fix.
Got this and my gas cost per month dropped drastically, so will never need to have the heat pumps put in , the surveyor for a heat pump system stated that I would never recover the cost of putting it in, I. Fact said I would be negative 1500 pounds
Hi Rob, do you mean where should your temperature dial be set? We would advise starting by turning the dial down to half way and then slowing increasing it until your desired temperature is reached (this is different for everyone).
Another coat, you still cold, keep doing the vids tho, esp the out takes. (silly is good, after all, we are all human). Try the next vid with keeping your arms still :) trouble getting the case off there, long time off the tools ?? :P Good vid tho, keep them coming to.
Well, based on this film I opted for a Worcester Bosch Ri18 heat only boiler. It was fitted brand new out of the box. I paid £4200 for the installation. The installation included almost everything. New honeywell motorised valves and new Grundfos pump too. WE REGRET GOING FOR THIS PARTICULAR BOILER!! MY PLUMBER HAS GIVEN UP ON US. THE BOILER KEEPS COMING UP WITH A VOLATILE LOCK OUT ERROR CODE (BLUE LIGHT FLASHING FAST). IT WAS INSTALLED BRAND NEW! MY PLUMBER HAS CHANGED EVERYTHING ELSE! NEW MOTORIZED VALVES. NEW PUMP, NEW EXPANSION VESSEL, ETC. THE BOILER STILL DOES NOT WORK! I HAVE PAID FOR A REGISTERED GAS ENGINEER TO CARRY OUT THE BOILER INSTALLATION. I THOUGHT I WAS DOING THE RIGHT THING. IT'S BEEN NOTHING BUT STRESS. WE HAVE NO HEATING AND NO HOT WATER IN THE CYLINDER! THE BOILER DOES NOT IGNITE AND SOUNDS LIKE THE FAN STUCK. THEN THE FAN STOPS TRYING AND THE BLUE LIGHT STARTS FLASHING. MY GAS ENGINEER HAVE NO IDEA. HE HAS TAKEN EVERYTHING APART, DONE TESTS, MEASURES AND STILL DOES NOT WORK. DO NOT BUY THIS HORRIBLE BOILER!! SELTEMBER 2022, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM
I phoned my ferroli manufacturers they said a boiler circuit board usually goes either straight away or doesn't go. The boiler repair guy I used was having a guessing game charging me £180 for new circuit board but still had same problem wouldn't re start when trying to re start after switching pilot off call out manufacturers fixed price +parts it needed a £5 new ignition button !
I like humour, but a more professional video, the stop and starting of the video, leaving mistakes in just get in the way. Surely you have the ability to cut those bits out? Humour is good though, making the presenter look an idiot is not humour lolol. Apologies in advance if this is offensive.

You need to sort the heating out in your fridge 😂 good videos guys.
It seems to be getting colder if anything. Good job we're moving to a new studio!
should a green light be on constantly when the hitting is on?
Hi Kristina, yes the light indicates that the burner is lit (the boiler is on).
Does need a permanent live though, which the Baxi doesn’t
But the baxi is garbage
@@gasandlpg They are all garbage to some extent but I’d have a Baxi over a Worcester every time
what is the minimum kW an Ri boiler will modulate down to? Thanks!
Hey, the modulation ratio of this boiler is 1:10, so if it's a 30kW then this will modulate down to 3kW.

All this boiler does is produce heat, it has no effect on your hot water pressure.
Do you know where the pressure gauge is for this boiler??
Hi Amy, this regular boiler doesn't actually have a pressure gauge, only combi and system boilers do!
why if I only heat the water, the hot water also goes to the radiators and they are hot? and when i try to heat the radiators only, nothing happens?
Could be an issue with your motorised actuator. Mine had a similar problem and it wasn't correctly stopping the flow of hot water to the rads when there was only demand for HW. Simple cheap fix.
