Allen. Wtf is the no outside condensate about? Why? Assuming it's not a 'trap' so doesn't dump enough water at once so liable to freeze. The pressure gauge at the front is odd considering the ethos of this boiler range. Like you say the rubber gas pipes is a no no for me. I assume it has the same red seal on burner, which in one way is good as you've only got to carry one seal for all boilers but haven't they learned from experience? Most manufacturers now use a cold seal on the burner 🤷🏼♂️. Seems like they have created a 'budget' boiler simply to compete with others on the market but the others on the market already have proven history and fitters like them. I'd say Ideal, baxi/potterton, vaiilant/glowworm. It's all well and good customers assuming WB are the best boiler but if the installers/service guys don't like them it's a waste of time.

There is a whole video on this boiler by WB by there engineers (live cast) on YT. I watched it and they were really bigged it up.
I glad i went for the Baxi. The casing is not metal, its composite plastic so you cant stick anything magnetic on in like you analyser..😄
Great review. I spoke the the Worcester reps at phex. Really put me off this boiler. Can't use any other controls than Worcesters own. No nest/hives or out like that.

My understanding is that you can’t currently fit third party controls as there is no way to connect them. This is supposed to be getting resolved. Once it is resolved the comfort 2+ will be removed and the price lowered. I believe the condensate trap will also be changed to a syphonic version in the not too distant future. The top half of the boiler is Worcester (British) and the bottom half Bosch (German), hence the standard condensate trap and Wilo pump. I think it’s just been rushed out too quickly, might be worth waiting for the upgrades to take place.

PRV looks a lot better, expansion vessel easier to get at, Plate heat exchanger looks a doddle to change
A lot more room to work on an yep would be fantastic an I would fit this in my home home BUT the issues you mentioned has put me off
Condensate pipework to external is not allowed as standard 👎🏻, what a very bizarre idea. The pipework underneath is all over and spending more time bending pipework to suit each brass fitting I’m guessing 👎🏻
Very odd, you think they would only improve on the previous boiler fault but seem to have sorted them issues then created more rubbish and going backwards
Ahh well if I ever need to change my boiler I don’t think I’d go for this one, I’d deffo not recommend for a customer with issues like that

Fitting my second one of this wasn't aware of the issues as I pre ordered this before I knew.
These are the things that are annoying.
1) Pipes should be clip distances off the wall. Nuts you need a basin spanner to do up.
2) prv flex isn't long enough 3" more would be so much easier. It has to be a compression coupling.
3) there needs to be space to run pipes up behind. They can't do this because there is no jig.
4) the condense issue is nonsense I am having to fit washing machine wastes to get myself out of this.
5.) You should be able to replace the flex. I'm having to fit a junction box where I wouldn't need one.
6) the nuts on the brass fittings are chrome. Looks naff.
7) no external controls/ comfort RF. Going to annoy a lot of people is they want a smart control in the future.

My ancient 2002 vintage Baxi has gone to the great scrapyard in the sky and I've just had installed today a WB 2000 and I really like it. It's a really nice looking boiler, kinda retro-ey 1950s Ascot vibes (but without the death toll) and it'd look great in the kitchen but mine is hidden away in the boiler cupboard in the hall. I'm overjoyed that I have a new cupboard now the hot water tank's gone. The user interface is very intuitive so as a customer I'm happy. As it's been here for 2 1/2 hours I can't comment on reliability yet but I hope it's at least as good as the Baxi. The Baxi did itself proud when it went with explosive ignition though (damaging the case in the process) and it did literally go out in a blaze of glory (at least from the terminal).
Brilliant allen, its the only way to get through to the manufacturers on how to make improvements to their designs. It dosent matter what brand boiler they can all be improved in some way or another so good on you for sharing your own opinion

All boiler manufacturers should be fitting mini expansion vessels in the boiler as all outside stop valves now have check valves built in (Well for the last 20 years anyway). Basically any outside stop valve with a meter or the ability to have a meter has a check valve in it.

Just a regular punter here looking at reviews to replace an old Worcester Bosch boiler. When you talk about the condensate being internal, is that internal to the boiler or internal to the house? Does that piece of flimsy-looking plastic have to be removed for emptying during the annual service? My current boiler empties through a short plastic pipe into my main waste which is situated right next to it. I've always wondered why the PRV doesn't use the same pipe. It could flag an error on the display to indicate a problem. I noticed a few days ago that my neighbour has a 'shit stain' down his recently rendered wall. Most unsightly!
Thanks for the review Alan. One thing you missed was the improved finish on internal edges (much better to work on) the internal condensate I think can be a bit of a pain but I guess it's no biggy if we can do internal. The big thing with this boiler is the lower price which is a game changer. Customers want WB and this allows us to be competitive. Now you dont like the kebab heat cell and not many do but overall they do keep going , there is an access hatch above it to remove baffle and burner and I found it dead easy to do when I was at WB. I like it myself and I like the cover look and two screw removal. The programmer I believe will change next year to allow other stuff to be used. So overall I think this boiler will suit your basic combi swap job and I look forward to fitting one soon cheers Tony Preston Flue Check Ltd

Why would you? Its all cons wheres the pros? Really don't get it! That heat ex is a pain it the arse to service id rather do a back boiler than that.
Hi Alan, Worcester are bringing out a module to fit the 2000 model that will allow hive to connect to it, so zoning off should not be a problem.
I am having this boiler installed now, and it seems you can remove the power cord as I think my installer has done so even though it can pre-wired? Not sure if there has been an update since the review. I believe a honeywell t3r wireless thermostat has been fitted. What I'm wondering is, can this boiler be fitted with a low voltage thermostat? Thanks
Hi Allen, I got a question on plug in heating control “ Greenstar comfort 1” mounted on Greenstar 30i combi boiler.
It’s thermostat knob has failed to change the temperature as it looks that it has become free, so the boiler does not fire up on heating as thermostat does not call for heat. I just want know that do we have to remove this Greenstar comfort from boiler to operate Manually the boiler for heating or there is another way to operate it while leaving this controller plugged in position, then how?

The blue hot water demand flow sensor is not sealed or covered, it has an open printed circuit board so if this gets wet, it stops working and boiler can't detect hot water demand. Had this issue with a house with very cold water inlet that had lot of condensation on the cold pipework and inside the boiler. Had to drain and remove the plate hex several times to reach it. Worst design layout ever! Had Worcester come out twice to replace the sensor then they stopped coming. This boiler was only a few weeks old. In the end I added insulation inside and on cold pipework and cover the flow sensor in plastic film.
Just fitted one of these last week, not to bad........Never had much trouble with these heat exchangers, if you service them regularly and do the fan pressure test, they seem to behave. The condensate problem is easily dealt with, but cost an additional £35.
I do agree, they are massively over priced for what they are..........All the silly loop holes you have to jump through to be accredited just to get an extra couple of years warranty. Stick in a baxi 800 series with 10 year warranty off the bat.

If anyone wants to hear what the boiler sounds like I have just uploaded some videos so you can get some idea of the sound levels produced by the boiler both inside the cupboard and with the door shut and also from the outside. It is much quieter than the Greenstar 28CDI (no videos unfortunately I had to get a new phone after moving house so there's no way to compare them on my uploads sorry!)
Spoke to the tec rep for Glasgow he admitted the first phase was rushed but a lot of the issues you have pointed out will be gone in 2nd phase and will be able to use different controls and condy trap will be changed some good things in it and also other rushed they also improved the hex so you shouldn’t have the problems like you had on the jrs ect
Hi, We have just had one of these installed in a small nursery at work. Not the boiler I would have chosen I'd prefer Viessman as I have at home. However, I was overruled by my manager ££. I can say after using it for one day the thermostat control that comes with it isn't easy at all to adjust "it's just not user-friendly" much prefer the evohome but then I do like my gadgets. ( I'm not a plumber by the way just an end-user).

Alan you know what puzzles me is the great variety in boiler design ! I would have thought uno like the car engine by practise and use they would all resemble each other an the only difference would be in materials diff makes of pump etc an quality , but my vaillant looks nothing like this Bosch or my old ideal boiler .

Hi Allen, i had to pipe one of these up yesterday and wasn't too keen on the isolating valves being all over the place, it makes the pipework look a bit odd i thought. When it came to the flexible PRV connection i had a bit of trouble trying to connect a compression coupler on to it, not only because there's hardly any slack to bring it lower down to work on but i found the front part of the boiler is in the way when trying to use a 24mm spanner on the 15mm nut.
I think the two valves with the filling loop connection on them look odd, thought it was Popeye's pipe
I think Worcester must have employed a load of drunks to come up with this daft idea. I must admit the flexible condensate connection seemed ok as it pushed onto the existing condensate pipe but looking at the isolating valve set up it looks like something from days of Methuselar
It's a budget boiler Alan, yes even Worcester make them, the Wilo pump has been put in to keep cost down, All other models are Grundfos. All their models come pre wired power now except floor standing high flows. It saves a good half hour on install. Compared to other manufacturers budget boilers it's streets ahead. 20kw isn't big, you can take a good 5kw off for all pipework leaving 15 for rads, 6 or 7 rad House, its for flats and small houses Al. Thankyou.
+Paul Hugh The pump unit cost is 1p difference and the trap would be around 20p more. I used to work selling heating systems and measured upto 6 a day, 20kw will suit a massive % of jobs, as a guess I would say 80% , When was the last time you actually measured a system heat loss? 20 kw could easily do a 20 rad system on a new build

Great review Alan, the condensate trap design change is a shame.
It strikes me as five paces forward and five paces back, some decent improvements but likewise a few old desighn niggles remain.
I do like the overall shape of it, nice and compact.
The reason the condense is non external is this boiler was designed and has been on the market in europe for some time now and in europe they do not install condense pipes externally at all due to freezing. This was not changed for the uk market.
Also as far as i am aware a new pcb is being prepared to allow for external 240v controls to be fitted, until that point the comfort supplied is the only controls that can be used.
Installed one of these yesterday did not like the pipe connections being out of line ,standard 21.5 mm overflow pipe was to slack in the condensate connection , PSV connection awkward. Don’t know why condensate can’t be run externally if it lagged . It was very easy to get on the wall . All in all not a big fan . I think the ideal logic + is a better buy .
It might be a good idea to re-visit your review for this video as they have now updated it in Mark II and addressed most of the issues you raised. Pipes all line up, Condenser option still inside but optional outside, any smart thermostat now works with it.... I'm just going too order mine now...

Hi Alan, enjoyed listening to your honest opinion on these Worcester boiler. My opinion is they are so over rated. And the prices for a boiler that I don't think would last more than 5 years without having problems. Intergas boilers all day long for me.

Got one of these in our property we rent, not getting any hot water, boiler isn't kicking in, it's brand new. Any ideas? Landlord and plumber due out this week
Check the basic stuff? Has the power been turned off to it? Gas turned off etc.

I’d read that as every install needs a mini expansion vessel, as every correctly installed water meter has back flow protection.

About time they've replaced the prv however they have more plastic than Pamela Anderson. I've just replaced my Worcester 24i rsf combi which was one of the best old style combis. Brass fittings and manifolds are better and I've opted for a Baxi compact 30.

It’s got push fit prv connector
Offset tails for flow and return
And access to replace the wiring.
Couldnt cope with those connections underneath. Why would you make them go straight down amd then not even line them up. I dont fit Worcester anyway but thanks for the info. Very interesting.

Allen as a lay old man I want a combi boiler to give three showers one after the other and heat five radiators - sitting room two bedrooms kitchen and bathroom. I addition I want to run some underfloor water to warm the tiles in the bathroom kitchen and corridor. Please recommend one for me. I am confused.

Ive just had a Greenstar 2000 installed GR2300iW C. All went smoothly but I was woken up at 2am because the boiler was running and heating up all the rads. The installer supplied me with a Comfort+1 RF wireless thermostat which works ok. But how the hell do I getthe boiler to turn off at night and start up before I get up? Am I going to have to be twiddilung away at the thermostat. Its crazy??

Hi Alan, thanks for a great review, I was about to price one of these for a customer, now I'm going to convince them to get an Ideal instead.
The fact you can't run pipes up behind the boiler, or run condensate externally is a pain, but I can't believe that you have to use their controls! What if a customer has a conservatory fitted and wants a seperate zone? or an extension with a hot water cylinder? I have a blind customer who uses the 'click' on a dial thermostat to control his heating, what is he supposed to do?
At first I saw the connections pointing downwards and I thought, what a good idea, it avoids having to fit elbows behind the valves, or mess around with tails. Except they are random distances off the wall so actually its now even more of a pain to fit than it was before.
The burner still looks like a POS, and having the expansion vessel in the side brings them up to where Baxi were ten years ago. Not having to spend an hour dismantling it to get to the PRV is an improvement, but again its competitors were doing that years ago.
I stopped fitting Worcesters a few years ago when they wanted to charge me to go on one of their courses to fit their boilers; The old boilers were great, each new one they bring out just seems to get worse.

For the price it looks like a proper money maker. I live in Hertfordshire and every customer has heard of Worcester.
Now they've got a competitively priced product I can see thousands of these going in.
Over the years I've found Worcester boilers on the whole to be the most reliable brand.

@@AllenHart999 nothings perfect. Time will tell if this product is reliable or not.
You can't blame Worcester for people not reading their instructions on installation and servicing.
Customer has to take some responsibility too as servicing a wovsesyer by the book takes longer than day servicing a logic and they need to pay accordingly.

Installed about 5 of these and am not impressed, up close they are flimsy, come full of water which is a pain in a customers flat etc where draining the boiler out isnt as simple, stick ur hand in prepare to be cut off something sharp, the 3 screws on the flue are a completey stupid idea one is always unaccesible. May well be easier too work on but with the new warrantys who really cares same pain in the arse to install.

No pipes up the back ? Massive backwards step, the off set pipes are irritating at least you can see the gauge on this boiler, have you taken a look at the 8000 the pressure gauge is interesting
Nice balanced view in this video allen but it does not look as if this is one of worcesters finest moments as there are far to many negatives with the design.also why can't manufacturers get together and standardise certain components so that we ourselves can stock them and have them on the van.as where I stay it takes an eternity to get the bits delivered ,this is why I prefer to work on the oil stuff as I can be confident that I will have the parts surely it cant be a big deal to go for same components .that new style prv is just another example of a new style part

Trap is a big prolbem and having to use that programmer also only 5 year warranty

Worcester will be changing the sealed wiring ,they were designed for other countries .

Hi Alan can you answer a question I’m not an engineer I’m a customer my Worcester Bosch 8000 style was fitted by a gas safe engineer I’m being told that 15 mm gas pipe is adequate and he is testing pressure okay I’m a little bit dubious as my meter is at the front of the house and the boiler is at the back I’ve watched many of your videos and have been very interested and wished you lived a little bit closer to me as I would’ve got you to do the job.

Hi Alan, boiler is only 20kw on heating, it's doubtful your going to start zoning a 20 kW heating system. It's for small houses. The Comfort 11 programmer is £200,a great bit of kit which there giving away. All condensate drains should ideally be run internally but households over a certain age only have external drains, fitting a condensure is always good practice. Syphon is small unlike the classics or new life/style so condensure and waste pipe /lagged if external. Never had a problem with Worcester expansion vessels. Had 100,s with Ideal. The pre wired power cable is a god send.
+Paul Hugh How many houses have more than 20kw heat loads? Not many near me that’s for sure, The flex would be great if you could still remove it, if it’s not quite long enough it will need extending. I honestly cannot see any excuse for the ( in my opinion) badly designed condensate. Some points are really good but WB are not a patch on most other brands for design. All just my opinion. Paul Hugh I heat nearly a 3000 sq ft of high ceiling Victorian house with less than 20kw! Thee zones- one for UFH in kitchen / dining / living extension, one for bedrooms and one for original dining room, sitting room and study. Also provides hot water to two bathrooms and one shower room. Either you're an old school plumber still massively oversizing, or a customer who has been suckered by an old school plumber into buying something with twice the output actually required.
How about a video of power flush vs magnacleanse mate? I know it's hard to do a like for like, but your opinion would be interesting.
@Adam Wood I was thinking more along the lines of customer education. Looking at Allen's views the more general stuff rates way higher, suggesting end users doing research. So when Boxt offer a chemical cleanse, as a PF may cause leaks.... People need to know what they're getting and what effect or lack of these "services" will deliver them.
@Adam Wood The PF thing is the reply you get from the likes of Boxt if you ask "do you power flush my system" . I see guys pull out the magnacleanse run it after an install for 20 mins, show the customer the mags and they're really impressed. If they knew more about what might be required and what a good business would do to establish their needs before quoting. They'd be less likely to go with large sling and run businesses that are appearing all the time.
Fitted one of theses and will not be doing another one. Flow and return offset from other pipes. The tail for the blowoff is almost impossible to get tightened with a compression fitting and the tail is about 13/14mm so the olive rattles about on it. You can only uses WB controls. Very poor value for money almost as if that had asked Vokera to design them a boiler

Looks decent. Not a big fan of the controls although I hear they are upgrading to allow second party controls. All the issues are for installers. For repair and service engineers they look good.
I only repair, so I like all Worcester boilers don’t know why people complain about them.Prv is a pain but not worst job out there.
Like I say don’t know why people complain about Worcester’s. Easy to diagnose and repair. But I think Isars are the same.

This is the budget version 8000... the 8000 is a much better boiler with a cdi heat exchanger and cdi trap. Also front facing prv

This has 93% efficiency. How much money will i save every year compared to a boiler with 90% efficiency? Is it going to be 3% off my gas bill every year?
I wouldn't expect any saving, tbh.
Paid 30quid for the condense sure siphon, everything went well as planned, but after I turned on cold water supply, this boiler leaked from around DHW outlet area. Also another thing piss me off is that u have to pay extra for external control. NOT recommend this model at all.

Your cross comping this to the previous juniors buts its not really in that range, the i range is the replacment for the older juniors. This new 2000 range is a budget range of boilers from Worcester. If you don't like some of the features you've eluded to then one can spend £200 more and get a 24 or 30i......

At the beginning you mention what "improvements" they've made - this is a new range - it's not trying to improve on anything, it's an independent product.
You compare the new hose to the older greenstar hose.
You say they are "now" using Wilo pumps - they aren't exclusivily only on that range.
You say the PRV is easier to get to "now" - it's not, only on that range.
You say Worcester "used to" have the best traps. That trap is only being used on that budget range of boilers. The new i's have a similar trap to older juniors that they've replaced.
The whole tone of the review is in comparison to the junior you have sat in the frame next to the one your reviewing.
It's just a bit tediuos to hear a Worcester bashing review - all engineers seem to have their favorite brand like they are in same gay little clique and all else is crap. When in actuality all modern boilers are varying degrees of shit made to a price point. The value is barely even percitible. Worcester are certainly not bad value when you look at their customer service and whole package..

In Bulgaria there's a model Bosch Condens 2300 i w , looks the same, the warranty is 3 years only, no free wireless controller, the price is 1200 GBP. Not good at all!
Exactly Alan, a new build maybe, with all the up to date insulation and regs. but all my installs are in private dwellings some properties 100 years old. I did a heat loss calcalculation last week. 20kw is for flats and small existing properties that would not need zoning, if you speak to their technical they will tell you that. You wouldn, t fit in most new builds because of 10ltr flow rate in winter, it wouldn't cope with bath and ensuite for example, if your zoning areas then there's a good chance that properties got more than 1 wet area. Wilo are poor pumps Alan, I, l admit Worcester have failed there.
I honestly don’t mind the pump, Grudfos have gone down since erp came out.
Worcester have missed the boat with this boiler, too many negatives, the trap, controls pipe jig and no running pipes behind and also the warranty, on a price point too the Ideal and Baxi are winning hands down .
Fitted one of these customer wanted nest one called Worcester they said nah u cant.
As it needs low voltage connection. If we do fit nest on this model do they gonna cover yhe warranty. As they dnt recommend. Friend of mine fitted nest on but its not straight forward.
Next time we gonna tell customer about control issues.

But my friend did out nest on same model. Basicaly on nest MI there is viring diagram for low voltage boilers u follow that and inside boiler move brown block and also have to put link there. And u dnt need any of woocester controls at all. Works fins

There are very few boilers that are engineered to last beyond 10 years these days as all of us out there fitting and working on them well know !.......... You used to work for one of those companies that actually build a quality boiler Alan but for some reason you no longer promote them ! I think you probably know which one I am referring to ;)

Well you could be right re the iPhone design but the condensate routing? Just madness, 90%of my installs are external condensates, I bet u there have already been many fitted externally in blissful ignorance, ie, not reading the instructions. Think I'll stick to android boilers!
