Hi Jon, I'm actually in the market soon for a proper launch monitor! Like you, I've recently set up a net in my back garden, although I've gone for the full-size 3mx3mx3m cage & net! I know I'm hitting the ball pretty well atm, but really want to see actual ball flight, and the usual other parameters, eg. Carry, total distance, spin etc! A couple of questions though plse: 1) how quick does it roughly take to set up the mevo + when ready to practise? I ask that because due to work, life, etc I really only have 1 hour a day to practise, so last thing I want is for half that time to be spent setting the right angle etc etc etc lol!! 2) My favourite clubs to practise with are my 7H, 6H, 4H and my new 7W, but can you select these as clubs, or is it all the usual irons, 3W and driver? I personally feel if I can't select these clubs, it's not really something I'd use tbh.. Many thanks in advance, and keep up the good work! On a side note, have you tried the standard Mevo, ie that little portable device?
Hi Andrew, thanks for following along and getting in touch! I'm not sure I'd get 'permission' at home for a cage that big, but it sounds great. In terms of your questions: 1 - I've only had it a week but I'm time poor like you and setup was a worry. I'd comfortably guess that I could be setup and hitting balls in under 5 minutes. It's not anywhere near as fiddly as I expected. 2 - Just had a look and there's an option to add clubs other than what it default includes. In hybrids you can add from 1H to 9H, in wedges: P/G/S/L or Ultra Lob (whatever that is) and in woods: 3/5/7/9. Hope that helps. I've not tried the smaller version and would be interested in how they compare, but I'm very impressed by the Mevo+.
@@andrewferguson1013 planning to get into them this weekend. Also want to play around with the practice modes and challenges - certain it's going to help get more from limited home practice time!
@@JonPerkinsGolf Thank you, and plse try and do a further video showing practise modes, and those few courses you can play.. Am I right in thinking you need an apple device to play those few courses, ie. It doesn't work on Android devices?
@@andrewferguson1013 hey, so I spoke to The Net Return Australia team (where I got my device) and they said the courses can be used on some Android devices. I don't want to tell you anything incorrect as I don't have Android myself, but apparently it's explained better here: www.flightscopemevo.com/faq/ Hope this helps!
I bought a Mevo+ this summer and set it up indoors with an impact screen and projector. I also purchased TGC 2019 software to run and practice and play simulator golf inside. So far the Mevo+ is as good as anything out on the market in this price range. The manufacturer's of the Mevo+ (Flight Scope) are updating the Mevo+ this January (2022) to read more data and more accurately by combining the radar with the built in camera (calling it "fusion tracking") to give better accuracy on spin, path, club speed and improve putting and chipping. The upgrade is free but to access the improved data there is a one time fee, it is going to be called the "pro package". This upgrade will bring the Mevo+ up to almost the same you would get with the big $10K dollar units, so big bang for your buck.
I have found exactly the same. I also use a net outdoors. I have used trackman at our club several times and know my numbers pretty well. Numbers with irons and wedges are not bad with just 8b feet but I find for accurate ball speeds and distances with longer clubs I need 10 to 12 feet from ball to net even when using metallic dots. I’m more interested in launch angle, spin, direction and shot shape for general practice with driver. I thinks it’s a great value bit of kit considering you get e6 golf included.
Thanks for sharing Dave. I was thinking the similar with the Driver practice - if the shape and launch is fairly similar, for me you can still get a lot from practicing into the net, just know in your mind that on the course the ball will fly further.
Love my Mevo Plus. I only use it at the range and the numbers are usually spot on when using my ProVs (ive compared it to Trackman and they are so close) and the 'range ball' setting has gotten better in estimating what a true ball would fly when I use range balls. Will have a garage hopefully this year and look forward to using it indoors, and will definitely make sure I have more than 12 feet of flight space for more accuracy. Also , make sure the metallic dot it lines up straight with your target otherwise you get wonky spin and curve numbers
This is really helpful and great you also like your FlightScope so much. Have you tired those new Titleist golf balls yet that are meant to work like the metallic dot idea?
Great Review. One comment: You need to have a metal dot on the ball when hitting into a net or screen. You can see that your numbers are italic, which means spin is calculated and not measured! Flightscope has no chance to measure spin and spin axis on such a short flight. The longer the flight the better the numbers - this will be the case with all Launch Monitors using radar technology :-)
Thanks for the help and thanks for following along! You're totally right re the dots - these were my very first sessions on the radar. Little trial and error but enjoying having it to use.
@@JonPerkinsGolf if you can find them, the Titleist RCT work as well or better than dots. Saves the hassle of applying the dots. I kept ripping the dots off, either on strike or as they spun against my screen (not a sim screen, just a higher end net) I got some on ebay with acceptable markup and spin numbers are way more realistic and now no hassle with dots.
@@JonPerkinsGolf I paid 100 on eBay. I figured retail is like 85? What's another 15 if I'm already paying 85. Superglying dots didn't seem like a long term option but now I have 3 TP5x's with dots superglued to them 🤣
I would agree with everything you said I think the numbers come back are pretty accurate I do agree with you that when it comes to the driver I think it shortchanges the distance. I've compared it with another $4,000 launch monitor that just came out that a buddy of mine has and the numbers are good but I did notice on the driver with that the distances were about seven yards longer on the other monitor so just like you I'll mess around with the set up a little bit and see if that makes a difference
Just make sure that all you're comparing is carry distances. Rollout is calculated differently with every monitor so total distance is basically irrelevant.
What I found out with my Mevo.plus at my very limited Garage SIM for short indoor setting every single feet of ballflight counts. I have to be very carefull with the settings to be in the recommend range. I hit my wedges with 8 feet / 2.4m from the device to 9 feet ballflight and my irons 7feet / 2.1m with 10feet ballflight and this works great and is more or less what I see when I am playing outside. So if you want the exact data, you need to be exact with your settings
From what I have been seeing. You need about 12-13ft of flight for a driver due to ball speed. It appears to mainly be related to higher spin which is reducing the distance. Nice review 👍
That's really helpful - thanks! I'll definitely try it out and see how I get on from that range. Appreciate the comment and thanks for following along.
Great review, I’m looking to buy my first practice net this month, going for a 3x3x3. Unfortunately I’m new at golf and wouldn’t trust hitting my driver unless I’m pretty much in the net 😆 due to high right shanks occasionally so my distance is only going to be about 9-10ft I may look to buy the Mevo+ later in the year if I get on well with the practice net. I like technology :)
@@JonPerkinsGolf i’ve done quite a bit of research in the past. Other than what I mentioned they are nearly identical in stats. Mevo+ benefits from no subscription and free courses to play. SkyTrak reads spin optically so better spin number in theory but both are honestly so close in numbers. The bag matrix and range is apparently better in skytrak too but if I had the room I’d choose mevo+ but I’m a single sized garage golfer so it doesn’t fit.
