98 dodge durango 5.2, i get power to pin 22 but no power to pin 2 . my 2 grounds to pcm are good (pin 31 & 32. on mine it says pin2 is Fused Ignition switch output. So, should i still be getting power to that?
For powers and grounds I use an Incandescent light to “load” the powers abs ground. Led doesn’t draw enough amps to show if the powers and grounds are actually ok. Being the module supply or main grounds an incandescent light won’t harm anything.
Question for you sir. I have a 2005 grand cherokee 5.7. I had the transmission turbine replaced as well as the temp sensor I even out an oil cooler with a fan for the transmission. My 2018 Dodge Charger is shifting sporadically and slipping gears and the electronic stability control is flashing, also various other electrical issues, car occasionally won’t start. I’ve swapped PCM’s already. Any other ideas of what may be going on? It’s still not starting occasionally and the first code it gave was P1614 “ECU reset/recovery” and also some “high circuit voltage” codes. I’m wondering if it may the wiring harness going from the pcm?
Hm that’s going to be hard to say without actually looking at the car. Have you checked the alternator voltage output and also the AC ripple? Ripple can cause lots of drivability issues with pcm and sensors.
Cody’s Auto Diagnostics have not. Just got the car towed. The common reoccurring code is the ECU lost communication with the TCM and camshaft position sensor needs service. It all started after I got new struts and control arms. I’m wondering if the shop may have possibly damaged any wiring associated with the TCM. I’ve heard the CAN bus may be responsible too

Good afternoon Cody, I checked your awesome video and I followed your testing procedures. I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2. The truck all of the sudden shut down and it just cranks. It’s got fuel but no spark. My cousin started throwing parts at it and replaced the fuel pump, crank position sensor and the ignition rotor. I verified it and indeed has no spark. Has no communication in the DLC. Gauges are pegged to the left and won’t move. I checked the following: -Verified powers to pins 2 & 22 -Verified grounds to pins 31 &32 -Checked the resistance on the ignition coil tested good -Checked the ASD and tested good -Verified 5 volt reference and it was good -Wasn’t able to test pin#30 for the signal coming out (no uscope) -I suspect a bad PCM Any recommendations?
I'm having a similar issue with a 99 Ram 5.9l. we tested the old pcm found it wasn't communicating and replaced. The refurbished one still does the same thing. I can't find a new computer from Dodge. It runs for about 20 minutes and then no bus returns. The crank and ignition were replaced recently and the truck was hit on the left side months ago. Ever since it's been acting up. Can't seem to find any broken wires. Any ideas where to go from here?
Bonjour from New Caledonia (NC), little French island near Australia and New Zealand. (Please, do not take care of mistake) Perhaps, you will be able to help me Friend of me have a problem on a dodge ram 2500 from 2004 (not sure about year), bring to a few garage but still have the problem. A lot of problem before, but now. The truck crank and start, good idle, good acceleration but we have "no bus" message on the dashboard and no indication about temp.water, no rpm/mn, no fuel jauge etc... My friend send the dashboard in America for a control and idem for the PCM witch cost him a lot of money (the PCM still no good, 3 cylinders no good), its good with the second PCM. here, a garage took him 1200 USD to sent it to USA, repair and go back to NC, (the garage left the bill reparation in USA, it was only 250 USD). So, my friend have controled the continuity of the can bus (J1850, one wire) and all the can wires are ok. The other can low is the ground. Next week, we will try to find the problem. I'm a electrician, so i know what a voltage, current, resistance, frequency.... got multimeters, diag tools (delphi ds 150e (no good for this car) but also mini thinkcar pro and an Autel mk808z witch is good for this truck But i do not have scopemeter to control the can bus signal. I have to buy one, but at this time, do you think you could help us. What should i control ? What about the TPIM module ? How generate the canbus, the PCM ? Thankyou for helping us. Merci beaucoup 😊

I would want to look at a wiring diagram and see what other modules are on the network with the bus. There could be another module bringing the network down. Also have you verified good powers and grounds?

I have a 04 durango that will not crank. Replaced the starter and ECM and battery.Just clicks once when I try to start it. I think it’s the skim module. Any suggestions?
Are there any codes in any of the modules? I can’t remember if a skim module would prevent it from cranking and should be a crank start and then stall. You could have a voltage drop on the battery cables which is causing the issue
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 no sir no codes whatsoever. Battery cable voltage is good to go. They let broke off in the ignition about a year ago. I tapped on the skim module and got it to crank once. It like it’s not telling the starter to start
I’m not following what your asking. Changing a transponder key to none transponder does NOT cause a no communication with pcm, this will create a no start since immobilizer module is not seeing a transponder chip. Now if you replaced a non chip key ignition switch with a chip one that will not create a no start since there is no module looking for immobilizer information

I can't find a five-speed PCM is there anyone out there that can reprogram reflash or whatever, my automatic PCM and remove the automatic transmission control software out of it?... No crank signal would not cause a no communication event with the pcm. A bad crank sensor would cause no rpm signal while monitoring pcm data pids. A shorted 5v reference at the crank sensor can cause the pcm to lose communication but the 5v ref was checked in this video.
I got same exact diag on an 02 Dakota. I put new pcm in and still no comm. can’t write vin without comm. but the truck runs now and doesn’t say no bus.
The fact it starts and runs tells me there is a break in the network wires to the scanner. If it truly was a no communication with pcm then obviously it wouldn’t run.
ivan drago because I wasn’t able to communicate with the pcm. I verified communication lines, powers, and grounds, plus 5v ref. If you have all of these and can’t communicate, then module is bad.
No BUS only appears on my 1998 Chrysler cirrus after driving it after a certain amount of time And a I guess “symptom” that my car does is that the gages turn completely off and then that “no bus” appears it’s irritating The code that my friends scanner read was p1698 Idk who to see or what to do to fix the car seems like the mechanic my grandfather took it to was a quack because LITERALLY NOTHING CHANGED . 98 dodge durango 5.2, i get power to pin 22 but no power to pin 2 . my 2 grounds to pcm are good (pin 31 & 32. on mine it says pin2 is Fused Ignition switch output. So, should i still be getting power to that?
Hey Cody. Do you think it was safer to use an LED test light when checking powers and grounds at the PCM?
For powers and grounds I use an Incandescent light to “load” the powers abs ground. Led doesn’t draw enough amps to show if the powers and grounds are actually ok. Being the module supply or main grounds an incandescent light won’t harm anything.
Question for you sir. I have a 2005 grand cherokee 5.7. I had the transmission turbine replaced as well as the temp sensor I even out an oil cooler with a fan for the transmission. I use my Jeep then after turning it off, I want to restart it and it would stall after 10 seconds and I would get the "check gauges" and "over heat transmission". I used my computer and it shows "lost communication with ecm/pcm" I checked the wires and had some damaged I repaired them and even put heat resistant tape and protection since they are next to the exhaust. I really don't know 2hat to do at this point. Ant tips would help.
What codes are setting in the modules?
We are having the same thing happening right now with a Ram 1500 2002 5.9L any suggestions
I have a 99 Dodge Dakota that has an electical issue, the grey hardness attached to the computer is not sending a signal to the computer. I got it running a few times when I was playing around with the grey hardness that's attached to the computer. I replaced the grey hardness with another one but it's still not working. HELP! what can I do to get it to work?
Very good next time use a tripod but great job straight to the point the best video i have seen so far on this thanks for posting
Thank you!
Nice diag Cody!
Flat Rate Master thank you Mike!
Yo so I got a 06 dodge with a p1603 code but don't have enough to take it to dealer for pcm can I set it to Vin at home and if so how?
Nice job here with proper diag. I run around programming ecus for shops. (Yes many are so bad that they pay us to write the vin on Chrysler). Usually the guys replace the pcm even when it's just a wiring issue. You are a proper mechanic. There's a ridiculous amount of mechanics, all immigrants, that i have to run behind and fix because they have no clue what they are doing
Thank you buddy, I try to be the best I can and definitely don’t like shotgunning parts at anything
Facing a wiring issue for my o2 sensors for my 2000 Durango. Are you still located in Tucson? Which shop?
Yes I’m still in Tucson. I’m at borst automotive on golf links
Dont forget to check the fuse in junk box, if u will not have the power in the green wire 12+
This video has some good information.
I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota I’m having the same issues but sometimes it will start but then after driving it dies. But all the same symptoms as you showed in the video. The strange part is that sometimes it’ll run sometimes it won’t but then it does. Any suggestions?
Check all powers/grounds/5v and pci circuits when symptom is acting up, is the best thing I can say
I’ve heard the CAN bus may be responsible too
P0505 code on a 2000 Dodge Durango 5.9L 4x4. Test for power at IAC. replaced and clean throttle body with new gaskets. Clear code and turn ignition switch back on, code come back right away. Can you help…
I checked the following:
-Verified powers to pins 2 & 22
-Verified grounds to pins 31 &32
-Checked the resistance on the ignition coil tested good
-Checked the ASD and tested good
-Verified 5 volt reference and it was good
-Wasn’t able to test pin#30 for the signal coming out (no uscope)
-I suspect a bad PCM
Any recommendations?
Does the pcm put out a 5v reference? You can check this at the throttle position sensor. Also will the scan tool communicate with the pcm?
Alf r - were you able to find the problem?
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 same truck same problem. Svan tool does not communicate. Need new pcm?
Nicely done sir! Glad you checked that 5vref
Haha yeah only takes one time getting burned to check all possibilities
Cody’s Auto diagnostics you could say that again
What if there is no 5volt ref?
Great video, again Cody!
Voltage Drop Diagnostics thanks walker 😂😂 jk bro👌
I'm having a similar issue with a 99 Ram 5.9l. we tested the old pcm found it wasn't communicating and replaced. The refurbished one still does the same thing. I can't find a new computer from Dodge. It runs for about 20 minutes and then no bus returns.
The crank and ignition were replaced recently and the truck was hit on the left side months ago. Ever since it's been acting up. Can't seem to find any broken wires.
Any ideas where to go from here?
You will need to find a used or reman module, have it programmed to the vehicle.
The truck was in an accident so it ended up being a ground. The original computer worked after it was fixed.
nice and easy done least exspensive tools too
wesley pagel Absolutely it’s not always about the price

Friend of me have a problem on a dodge ram 2500 from 2004 (not sure about year), bring to a few garage but still have the problem.
I'm a electrician, so i know what a voltage, current, resistance, frequency.... got multimeters, diag tools (delphi ds 150e (no good for this car) but also mini thinkcar pro and an Autel mk808z witch is good for this truck
But i do not have scopemeter to control the can bus signal.
I have to buy one, but at this time, do you think you could help us.
What should i control ?
What about the TPIM module ?
How generate the canbus, the PCM ?
Thankyou for helping us.
Merci beaucoup 😊
I dink my son ride is doing same thing...I had them replace fuel pump and crank sensor and still nothing.....just upset n crying.....a mon tryna help my son with his ride but no luck. . where do I order a PCM....
Can i buy a used PCM? If yes would i need to get it reprogrammed?
Some places sell them plug and play if you give info like vin and model
Will a bad ecm cause my odometer/speedometer to completely disable?
I changed the ABS rear speed sensor, still nothing.
Everything worked then the truck sit for six months and when I went to turn on the engine the whole instrument cluster went dead.
No sir, it sounds like you now have another issue.
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 after doing more research.. Like finding a needle in a haystack.
Apparently 02 dodge and certain models get corrosion underneath the smart fuse box. We'll see round 4 🤞
Cody I have a 98 dodge 12 valve that starts and runs perfect ..it charges 13.8volts and I have 2 problems first none of the gauges work and I did the cluster reset and they all work during test the odometer flashes and has the 920 921 999 codes come up and the other code when I put a code reader on it is p1492 batt temp sensor voltage to high any help would be appreciated thanks!!
Hmm interesting. I’ll have to look up a diagram and see if I notice anything
Hi, mine is a 1998 2500 V10 4x4. Same codes 920, 921 and 999. BUT, my truck starts everytime and runs pretty well. Dosent shut off while driving either. I'm in Florida and it's pretty hot here. No issues other that my guages not working. The dash lights work fine. Taking out the problem everyone else has with no start. Would I check the same things you did in the video?
No Bus code is usually a super simple ground issue. Just gotta find which ground.
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L two wheel drive. My battery gauge keeps dropping to zero after driving the truck just for a few minutes the alternator and the battery are tested and came back good. I don't know what the problem could be I also clean and best all connections to make them better so I don't know what it could be can you help me before I send the truck to the junkyard
This could be a cluster issue.does the voltage drop below charging system voltage?
I have took the alternator off and went had it tested and I've also done the same thing with the battery. I clean all the connections for the wires that do all the charging I am thinking it might be the ecm. I was just hoping that you might have a better idea so I ain't got to spend so much on buying the ECM
Having this issue with my 15 durango. Whats the price range on getting this fixed. It caused the engine coolant sensor to go out. (Easy fix)
Great job my friend
hassan issa thank you and thanks for watching!
Very useful information
Thank you for the effort and sharing your knowledge 😀
Your welcome. I’ll try and get more videos out soon
Had the same problem on a 2004 Dodge Durango 4.7 change it out still would not start. Sent it to a shop they said it was the fuel pump , got it back with the check engine light still on idling high next day took it and had check engine light check, o2 sensor bank 2 upstream and transmission malfunction code. Now it want start.
I’ve had a unlocked pcm and Diablo tuner in my 2017 ram slt for a few months. Did a parameter change one night and. Ow says no ECU detected. Put the key in and everything lights up, stereo comes on, etc. turn the key to start and nothing. No fuel pump, no ignition, nothing. You can hear the relay click when you turn the key. Dealers have no idea, Diablo has no idea and the performance shops have no idea.
Well done. This is how check out and repair should be done!
Dustin Atwood thank you bud, much appreciated!
Hi .. im auto electrician I have 2009 dodge Durango... which have gas pedel not working I replaced new pedel but still same condition... any idea which IC I chang to solving this issue?
I would be checking voltages at the pedal first for app 1&2 first
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 I checked by Another Ecm then car Accelerater work perfectly... mean there is no problem in wiring or something else... now I have one more ECM same modle but manual transmission... I would’ve grounded the ads relay circuit and make it start to confirm it was the pcm but since a lot of times we know what’s up with those pcms might just shorten time haha nice vid
How do I ground ads relay...I know how to jump the starter relay...wire across slot 30 and 87...is the ads the same
I've replaced the PCM twice and still having the same issue. It will run now but it is giving all the same codes and no bus signal. What would be your next suggested place to look. Keep in mind I've already changed the speed sensor and the ignition sensor.
I would want to look at a wiring diagram and see what other modules are on the network with the bus. There could be another module bringing the network down. Also have you verified good powers and grounds?
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 Yes. That was one of the first things I checked. I traced the wiring back to the fuse box to see if there were any connections that were bad, faulty, or missing. Still couldn't find anything. Took it to a dodge dealership and they are saying that they can't communicate with the computer. I'm almost thinking I've had two bad computers. The first one I got on-line from a refurbished place. And the second one I got from OReillys. I don't really want to pay the dealership but I'm kinda running out of options.
@@christopherezzell1993 ever figure it out? Crank sensor is another sensor to look at. The one you have to acess by taking off wheel and fender well.
It like it’s not telling the starter to start
good job. thanks for the video
If I changed ignition switch 2 New keys old one no Chip ignition may not be communicating with pcu. Thanks
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 It started with changed alternator new ignition switch coil pack and battery. Now no bus no comm, does a ignition need programming or is it my pcu cause it cranks goodbye just won't turn its frustrating dealing with it 2 mths. Thanks for your reply.
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 Now could it be a sensor like BCM or ECU, Fuse maybe, I hooked up a different pcm to look and the no bus light went off but still no start. I'll recheck all fuses and lines I guess. Something I can't see is stopping it turning over, don't have funds to tke it to a shop or tow it.
Cody I have a 07 dodge ram 1500 4.7L. I have fuel spark and crank but won't start
Have you checked if you have injector control?
I got a 2000 Dodge ram 1500 V6 5-speed truck, this past Friday I just finished up my V8 engine swap on it...I put a 360 in it out of a four-wheel drive truck automatic... on those it's pretty much plug and play except for the plug that goes to the automatic transmission.... now it's left dangling and it's giving me a no bus on the odometer... which is expected... my question is... I can't find a five-speed PCM is there anyone out there that can reprogram reflash or whatever, my automatic PCM and remove the automatic transmission control software out of it?... Or if they had a emulator that plugged into the automatic transmission plug would be fine too but finding such a thing probably isn't happening.... probably would have to build one....
What is sending the signal to communicate to the PCM? Do you have a PayPal or accept Amazon gift cards, to walk through diagnostics for crank, no start with no communication on a 04 Dodge 2500? Thanks.
Each module produces a bias voltage and when the module is communicating the module brings that bias voltage to ground.
Sounds like my 2k Dodge Dakota intermittent "no buss" issue. Is there a fix?
Tyrone Walker in this case it was the pcm that was bad.
How to reprogram the PCM?? How to reprogram the vin??

You have a bus issue that needs to be diagnosed
Hey cody! I am having a weird stalling issue on my 06 chrysler 300c 5.7. The car only stalls after a cold start and it does it after the car has been running for a few seconds (usually stalls if I accelerate too). My mechanic is not sure what the issue is and is about to charge me crazy amounts of money to guess and check. It is only spitting a lost communication code too (lightning bolt tbc, check oil, check engine light). Any help would be a life saver for this broke college student!
Leo Leo what’s the communication code and what module is the code stored in?
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706
Code U0101 for Lost Communication with TCM. I don't have the car currently but I can tell you exactly what it is tomorrow!
Happen to look at any data while vehicle stalls
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706
So I diagnosed it as a bad ignition coil. I checked the data and the other ones seemed to work fine but one was showing some odd drops (checking the data) instead of misfiring. Replaced it and it seems to run better now
Leo Leo thanks for the update buddy, I’ve see coils cause lots of issues in a vehicle, more then just misfires at times
Mine did that after putting on the parking brake there's a wire harness behind it push foot against it and then try it works on mine
I have this issue I'm not getting 12v to pin 2 dose this mean its my ignition
What year make and model? I’ll have to check the wiring diagram
so what is ccd vs pci xmit and receive?
Hey need some help with my 05, it won’t turn over but the little box that goes around the D for drive and the R for reverse etc... is not around them. Everything lights up when I turn key but nothing happens at all no noise. Car worked fine just took down dash to install a remote start, seen I needed another plug and put dash back up and now nothing, any help from anyone is appreciated
Check all fuses and make sure all connectors are plugged in.
Is this same as no-hub?🤔
if the crank sensor isn't sending signal can cause the issue too
No crank signal would not cause a no communication event with the pcm.
What are your thoughts?
So vehicle starts and runs but still no communication with scan tool?
I’m using a Triton D8 scan tool. Comm on everything else.
The fact it starts and runs tells me there is a break in the network wires to the scanner. If it truly was a no communication with pcm then obviously it wouldn’t run.
What if I have all the same issues but it does start?
Will you always get no bus if it was a pcm issue
No not always. You could have another module taking out the network or could have broken wires somewhere as well
How was you so sure that pcm is faulty if it had 5V reference
ivan drago because I wasn’t able to communicate with the pcm. I verified communication lines, powers, and grounds, plus 5v ref. If you have all of these and can’t communicate, then module is bad.
@@codysautodiagnosticsprogra8706 Thak you
2006 dodge ram security light flashes and doesn't communicate with the scanner when light isn't flashing it will communicate

What if there is no 5 volt ref?
Then you need to disconnect all 5v sensors and make sure a sensor is not shorted to ground, this will cause the computer to become a no communication.
I think I am having the same issue in my 2015 Chrysler 300. Hoping not to take it to the dealership
Have you checked codes in the vehicle?
No BUS only appears on my 1998 Chrysler cirrus after driving it after a certain amount of time
And a I guess “symptom” that my car does is that the gages turn completely off and then that “no bus” appears it’s irritating
The code that my friends scanner read was p1698
Idk who to see or what to do to fix the car seems like the mechanic my grandfather took it to was a quack because LITERALLY NOTHING CHANGED . They only bandage the stuff that came FROM this issue
The brakes AND Despite knowing the diagnosis they unplugged repluged but to not avail
and I replaced the TCM
WTFFFF DO I EVEN DO
Need to use a labscope to see what module is bringing down the bus
I have a 2002 dodge durango and it is doing the no bus
Follow the test in the video. Check powers and grounds at pcm, check lin bus signal and see what modules you can communicate with using a scan tool
My 2001 truck works fine but no bus comes off and on all the time.
