The death of Claudia was basically Anne Rice processing her grief of losing her daughter to leukemia. In the book Claudia is actually physically about five. The age her daughter was when she died.
Anne Rice has done a game changer on the description of vampires as beautiful monsters with a touch of class. She really made a contrast between horrific monsters and beautiful deceitful human like creatures.
Rice's shift to vampire media is as pivotal as Polidori (before The Vampyre they were feral monsters, like the one Louis and Claudia meet in eastern Europe in the book). When Twilight was the rage, the parallels to Rice's vamps were too hard for me to ignore. Beautiful alluring predators, each with a special gift, whose skin turns hard as stone as they age... all from Rice 😅
The show is so good. They definitely give the characters the depth that they needed. The movie is my childhood but i love how deep they go into the story for the show. So smartly done

@@joshuasfilms1135 didn't she have a hand in making the movie? Also, I thought it was only Tom Cruise's casting she had a problem with which she promptly retracted after seeing his performance as Lestat.
Let me just say this; this movie is a brilliant 90's movie because there were many things to like about this film, including Kirsten Dunst's performance as Claudia (who deserved an Oscar). But it has it's faults here and here, like how Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt hated each other during the making of the film (which is why the chemistry is lacking). It still was the reason I got into Anne Rice's books. I hope you get to binge the show after this! It's amazing!
@@thatsheeeep Well there was a lot of on-set tension between the two actors with their contrasting personalities and creative differences. There was a huge rivalry between them at the time. Brad said that he felt miserable working with Tom during the production. In the show, thankfully Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid became friends during the making of the film because they shared similar interests, thus making their chemistry more real compared to Tom and Brad's.
This movie will forever have a wonderful, special place in my heart. It's one of the main reasons I got into vampires, and why I've never looked back. It also helped my mind to expand and think outside of the box that I was raised in. Please, please watch the show! I just finished season 2 yesterday, and it is phenomenal. Immediately thought of you two and how you might really enjoy it. Beautiful acting and cinematography, gripping story lines and wonderfully upper crust and beautifully demonic atmosphere. One of my favorite shows of all time. Please, please watch it.
Immortality & a perm? Sign me up 😂 The cast was stacked & everyone was so young! 1st time watching the film & just finished season 2 of the show. I had an enjoyable time with this film but the show is on another level to me 🖤 Fun reaction as always! Hope y’all watch the show too cuz I know you’d love it 🙃

Yes he knew. He's the only one of the actors who read the book before shooting and he was very enthusiastic about the project. Also he's bi and the vampires in the book aren't sexual at all because their bodies are dead.
I love the movie & wasn't sure if I would like the tv show without brad pitt & tom cruise. I LOVE the tv show & actually like the actors that play Louis & Lestat even more!
Agree the AMC series is incredible. And in my opinion Jacob Anderson is Louis, and Sam Reid is Lestat they are so amazing. And absolutely way better then Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.
NOW THE TV SHOW 🙌😭 I’ll jsut say this, this film used to be one of my ALL TIME faves and while I still love it immensely imho it doesn’t hold a candle to the new tv adaption. The changes make it SO much more nuanced and layered. Really hope you guys watch the series next 🙏🏻

Omg you need to watch the series it's so good. The acting the writing, the chemistry between Lestat and Louis. You are doing yourself a great disservice if you don't check it out. In my humble opinion it's better than the movie.
I love this film but, echoing the other comments: The TV show! Oh the TV show! It is phenomenal. Extremely brilliant performances, excellent updates to the source material. Just all-round amazing.
I was a big fan of the books as a teenager (except Louis; sorry Louis fans but he is tedious!) and this film was really a great adaptation for the time. There is less homoeroticism than the books and a lot of heternormativity is introduced (no wife and child in the book). This is basically the only film I liked Tom Cruise in and what a performance from a young Dunst! Hollywood has wasted her. She had some good roles after but not what she should have had.
I’m joining the group of people in the comments begging y’all to watch the tv show. It’s so good and I think both of you would enjoy it for a number of reasons
"That is so messed up!" 🤣🤣🤣 Lestat dancing with Claudia's mother is hilarious! This adaptation plays up Lestat's morbid humor 😅 My favorite little detail of Interview is that Lestat can read minds, and tries to show Louis that they can feed on criminals, but Louis is so wrapped up in his human emotions (Louis' 'dark gift') that he cannot see the rotten trees for the forest so to speak. "They created a monster!" The irony being that Claudia's feeding habits weigh on Lestat's conscience (yes, he has one 😅) because she is predatory and somewhat indiscriminate - they wipe out whole families, she preys on women & children, kills for greed and envy, etc.
I've never liked a video so quickly. YES! Please cover the show. While the movie is great, the show is even better and, in my opinion, a more faithful adaptation to the soul of the book; and the changes made the story even better. Sam Reid plays a much better Lestat. It's a role he was born to play. 15:26 - "The Vampire Lestat" was made into a musical, LOL!

the show is SO amazing! the chemistry between sam reid and jacob anderson as lestat and louis is literally electric! plus its less vibes more literal loving between them two in the show🤭
I like how you mentioned Armond and Louis, in the books they actually do end up spending time together before Louis decides to go on his own way! In the book 'The Vampire Lestat' you learn how he knows Armond
Please watch the show! It's so good and I was waiting for you guys to make a reaction ever since ZZAVID anounced he will be reacting for the whole season 1 for his Patreon! I'm really looking forward to seeing your perspective and insights for the show because there's so much depth and heart put into it knowing that many of the cast and producers have read the books, and yet it is also unique and enjoyable even without reading the books!
The vampires in the books and movie are ACE. They have no sexuality because when they become vampires their sex organs don't work anymore. With men they cant even get an erection and their genitals kind of shrivel up. So their relationships only matter when there is an emotional and complex bond connecting vampires to eachother. They are beyond the constraints of gender and don't see that when choosing a partner to make or fall in love with. What is described in the books is how indescribable and beyond physical pleasure, the experience of drinking blood is. That is sex for them especially when they drink from one another, they pass on knowledge and memories, and the older ones can make weaker vampires stronger with their ancient blood. Edit: The show portrays vampire relationship more like human ones, so sex is back in. A change I don't think was necessary for Louis and Lestat would kiss and faun over each other in the books. I like the intimacy of finding other ways to express love without straight up sex. The show still has the spirit and core of the books so other than that lol, I do like it.
I don't think i had ever clicked the Like button on a video before watching, but i did today. This was one of my favorite movies growing up. My dog's name was Louis because of this movie. So I'm so glad you liked it. Whenever I think of vampires, this is what I think of. This was one of the first vampire stories that humanized them. Before they were always portrayed as purely evil. Twillight and The Vampire Diaries and such owe everything to Anne Rice.
I've seen this movie more times than I can count, and it's such a masterpiece of gothic atmosphere. The scoring, the script, the actors, the director... all the stars aligned for this one.
One of the things I love about this movie is the practical effects. For 1994 it's done so extremely well and still holds up. The only moment in it where the effects are a little off is the bridge tunnel scene when the camera wobbles as the set rotates. The effects are so subtle that you might not even notice how good they are, like the statue's eyes, or when Lestat first "dies". It's such a good movie, one of my all-time faves.
My friends all favored Louis or Lestat as teen goths when this came out- but my heart belonged solidly to Armand, lol. Claudia's hair was always curly here. Her mother died of plague and she was dying of malnutrition/dehydration after a prolonged hard time (judging by sparse lodging). She was dirty, her hair was matted- but you can see curls in her bangs and around the edges if you look. In the books you basically look how you look when you turn, forever. So like when Armand was made- he was apprenticed to be a vampire and was turned "early" due to some circumstances, so he's also considerably younger in the books, like 16-ish. Claudia was aged up for this movie- and then aged up more for the tv show. When Armand says "I know him well enough not to mourn his passing" it meant one thing from Louis POV of hating Lestat- and thus us as the audience to his story's perspective- but it actually meant he knew that neither Claudia nor Louis were strong enough to kill Lestat. In the book, there's more to that (and the theater). Also- Louis *does* go with Armand for a long time before they break up. I definitely recommend it. The audiobook version is pretty good, too, and Audible has a sale right now where book 4 and a couple other Anne Rice books are on the 2 for 1 credit sale.
Hey Cody & Sergio! Loved the reaction.😊 - I had read the book about a year or 2 before the movie came out so I wanted to watch the movie in order to see if it did the book justice. I went to see this movie in the theater w/my then girlfriend. She wasn't really into horror & she didn't care for Tom Cruise. After watching the movie, her opinion changed a bit.😊 I liked it, but I was a bit bothered that they chose Antonio Banderas to portray Armand because he was too old. In the book Armand is a 400yr old vampire in a 17yr old body. - Part of the lore in the books is the older the vampire that turns u the more powerful u will be. Because in essence when u drink from an ancient vampire, u take in some of their power. Lestat was turned by a 1,000 yr old vampire, & that's why Lestat was so strong. - Poor Claudia, mentally a full grown adult trapped in a 5yr old's body. Being turned so young, she had no impulse control. Come to think of it, Lestat was lacking some of that also. - Louis' gift/curse was having his humanity intact after becoming a vampire. That's why Armand was so fascinated by him. - In the books, there is a seductive sensuality about the vampires. Their alluring nature draws in both men & women alike. That's why there is a sense of homoeroticism in the movie, as well as the book. In the beginning, the creator & the creation are also drawn to each other, but eventually the fledgling wants to leave. Louis was not Lestat's 1st fledgling. His 1st was his own mother, who was sick & dying. They were together for years. They parted ways shortly before Lestat came upon Louis. He knew Louis wanted to leave him too. That's why he searched for something to get him to stay. As luck would have it, Louis fed on Claudia, & Lestat turned her to keep Louis w/him longer. - Anyway, great reaction guys. Can't wait to see what u have in store for us next.
I’ve been an Anne Rice fan for so long, and I usually recommend after people finally watch this film for the first time to go ahead and jump right into the 2nd book, The Vampire Lestat.
The books are very fun. Especially the ones where we follow Lestat's pov and his viewpoint on Louis and everything is so much more different than how Louis portrays things in his pov. If you're into reading then def give the books a chance

Yes yes yes!!!! Pleeeeeazzz check out the show. As a huge Anne rice fan and fan of the movie, the TV show is BETTER than the movie ❤
the show is SO amazing! the chemistry between sam reid and jacob anderson as lestat and louis is literally electric! plus its less vibes more literal loving between them two in the show🤭
I like how you mentioned Armond and Louis, in the books they actually do end up spending time together before Louis decides to go on his own way!
In the book 'The Vampire Lestat' you learn how he knows Armond
the show is seriously AMAZING, i know yall would love it!
Yes, you NEED to react to the series!!!
"sensual beauty to grotesque" pipeline is real 😂 I love this film. And the books. And the AMC series, I think you guys would love it.
Yess!!! Should have done this for pride!! 😭🩷
YAY! Iv been waiting to watch this with you guys, im so ready, watching right now!
YOU HAVE TO WATCH THE SHOW, ITS SO GOOD!!!! EVEN BETTER THAN THIS IMO❤❤❤
Please watch the show omg it is so so so good!
Y’all have got to watch the series!!
The show is amazing you will lust and love and feel all the feels and I would love to watch yall watch it
OMG PLEASE DO THE SERIES!!! ITS SOOOOO GREAT
Yes! Yes! Yes! You have to watch the show. Sam Reid is beyond incredible as Lestat. Tom Cruise who?
Loved the reaction.😊
- I had read the book about a year or 2 before the movie came out so I wanted to watch the movie in order to see if it did the book justice.
My favorite literary character 📖 Lestat and his Savage Garden ❤
Adding to the voices that are telling you to watch the show!!! It's so so good.
Omg please watch the series!!!! It's so much better than the movie!
