I’ve said it before, the only thing I wished gow3 had was more locations in the city of olympia and actually fighting Olympian demigods and troopers. Also I think ascension had the best art style out of all gow games, realistic graphics took no toll on art design

God of War Ascension is what a God of War 2 Remake would look like to me. They have a very similar colour palette, lots of green, gold, yellow and just warm colours in general. Very pretty.

What they should have done was start the game with a saturated color palette, than as Kratos kills gods, it gets darker and darker, to reflect the progression of the world's destruction. That way it isn't a constant switch from bright to dark, back and forth.
but it kinda does that don't you think? by thr time you fight zeus, there are souls, tornados, beautiful but destructive beaming light, lighting and tsunamis in the background... how is that bland when compared to the grey filter that zesty is talking about? the garden is still green and has a green aura anyways and hera is dying and so it makes thr plants and the garden even darker...
I like the art style on all the games, although ive always had an issue with kratos skipping leg day, he finally did do leg day the last two games but he does seem a little too bulky at times, and i miss his hunched over posture from the originals, it was awkwardly menacing…especially when he walks up to Poseidon to beat him senseless.
I really didn't like the garden puzzle section but it makes perfect sense regarding the story. Like of course it's all gray and dead looking, Kratos killed all sunlight, flooded the place, and then killed Greece's best botanist
The game takes place at night, that's the problem, God of War 2 has the best art style of the entire saga, in addition to having the most memorable scenarios too.
I think one of the highlights of 3's art style is the color filter with certain moves; Blades of Exile's magic attack and Rage of Sparta. And of course the environmental design is phenomenal. While the outdoor sections on Olympus vary wildly in color balance, it really drives home how fucked up and out-of-balance things are getting as more gods die. The scenery near the end of the game delivers on both fronts, I feel. Shows the ruined landscape but without the bleary fog you see in the Upper Gardens, for example, and better colors. But Ascension has the best art style in the whole series, and that's a fact.
Not agreed at the second zuse fight arena ... its awesome .. the fighting area .. the tornados in the background with the yellowish and orangey vibe ..
Where is this dude coming from? I've seen couple of his videos now and in every single one his opinions are just wrong. Man i've NEVER heard anyone say anything negative about its art style bcz everyone know why its like that and for that reason likes it, but this dude idk what he does, just lacks the criticatl thinking needed for someone that is old enough to play these games
yes he does talk BS sometimes ... i never saw someone complaining about the AS of GOW3, about its duration, its scenario, the fact that its a bit repetitive etc, but not this
Imagine a game similar to GOW3 but the world and characters are basically like Bioluminescent 3D Shadows. Let me explain this better. I need to paint the correct picture in your mind. So if this game had it's own version of Kratos (but it does not), a good amount of his body would look like a muscular black 3D shadow but the red marks would be made of bioluminescent red flower-like stuff. Also blood would be glowing red bioluminescent. So the new reason his full body tattoo is red (NOT A TATTOO IN THIS VERSION BUT MORE LIKE A PLANT-BASED BIRTH MARK) would be because the bioluminescent blood of his family was magically fused into it. Originally it would be either blue or white bioluminescent flora growth until turned red by the blood of his family. His face skin will become more like white exo-skeleton material infused with the family ashes because he still must be the Ghost Of Sparta. So he has a white crab-like head although kinda human-shaped like the rest of his body. Most of his body will be black like a solid 3D shadow but with bioluminescent red flora growth where his full-body tattoo should be.
It would be amazing if there were others Gods In this third game like: Hypnos,Demeter,Dionysus,Apollo,Artemis,Eros,Eris,Íris and Hestia with the grandchildrens of Zeus what could have been added to the game like: Triton,Hecate,Asclepius,Orpheus,Macaria and Melinoe since they are Sons of Apollo,Hestia,Hades and Poseidon another thing that also Ares,Aphrodite,Hephaestus & Athena they also have Childrens too It's a shame that these characters/Gods didn't appear in the game who knows in the future.. I believe there could still be two games of the Greek Mythology to close the saga and in the current games of Norse Mythology what is now happening in this new saga and mythology there would be a lot to do with more two games a sixth game and the origin game with many story dlcs especially in the Ragnarok that I definitely believe surely there will be more and a curiosity: we almost had a fight against Echidna the mother of all Demons and Creatures of the Greek mythology a shame it was cut and it would have been a fight on behind the Gaia's back in a forest certainly at the beginning of the game from this third game and we almost had the NPC Ixion as one of the puzzles in the underworld in the game that he would die in one of the traps that we would try to uncover to pass the level that was cut very sad that it didn't happen.. and all these things and Gods with yours Childrens/DemiGods was cut from the final version content and they were not added/placed in the game.. 🤔🥺🤧🙏🙏 like and Bye!
Reason 1- Unlike other Greek games, this time Kratos is slowly destroying the Greek world. The world becomes grayer every time a god dies. The prominent colors are the redness in the blood effects and the grayness of the world. Also, instead of telling an epic adventure story, this game tells a scary revenge story. Reason 2- The first games released on PS3 generally had atmospheres with dark color tones such as grey, brown or green. This was because the developers were just getting used to this console and were using these color tones to make the worlds look realistic. But later, as they got used to this console, they started to make more colorful games. GTA 4 and 5 are an example of this. While GTA 4 has a yellow-gray tone on PS3, GTA 5 is colorful like its other versions. This is also true for other game series. This is usually the case with AAA games that were first released on PS3 and last released on PS3.
Nothing better than waking up watching ur channel videos and i made a debut in ur video at 5:38 of live stream comment section and ya gow 2 is better in art style compared to rest of series and it has so many great sections every place feels like something new and great
It does make sense because at the beginning of gow3 everything is actually colorful and as you progress (destroying the world in that very process) everything turns grey
it fits with the tone of the game tho. I hate when people want every game to boots the saturation up by 200 for no reason at all. Also the dynamic range is waaay better in this game.
"It's meant to look like shit," is itself a shit argument. You can make a dying world still appear epic and even beautiful. And no, good graphics do not make it any better. I'd say, if anything, the good graphics highlight the fugly world design. TLOU2 did exactly this and made the already depressing experience that much more miserable. RDR1&2 are proof that you can have a 'decaying' and otherwise sad game world still be visually interesting. This emo shite has got to stop.
One of my problems with the GoW3 aesthetics lies in graphics. At that time it was developed for the new hardware. First, I think they didn't have enough time and knowledge to utilize their possibilities in the best way. Second: that god awful bright and thick weapon effects, like fire etc. Level 1-2 weapon is ok, but the higher the worse. It covers a lot of the screen and makes unnecessary contrast. It seems to me they were trying to impress with their new effects but in the end... In terms of art... A lot of GoW3 zones just look blunt comapring to those in previous titles. Even GoS from PSP looks more cool.
And this is where PC can shine at its best. You can just fix this and enhance the game by a lot using Reshade . It's just amazing. It just looks so good. It shows how ahead of this time this game really was. Way better than the remastered version.
Zesty What you are talking about is not "art style" nor "art Design" nor "graphics" Art Style/Art Design is simply the way the world and the characters are drawn (their body propotions, Architectures, clothes...) Graphics are simply the definition/quality of the game So what are you talking about? You are talking about "Visuel design" Visual design is the aesthetics of a site and its related materials by strategically implementing images, COLORS, fonts, and other elements Hope these shenanigans were clear ZestyMan
Thanks, D. Thing is, i truly believe the characters are drawn beautifully (so art style, i guess) but the main problem is the environment shift that constantly happens. _That_ makes people think the *Art Style* suck, rather than whatever you just typed.
@@ExtremeGameplays1 gow1-gow3 mostly share the same Art Style except for some small changes here and there (think of it as DBZ while raggy and gow4 are DBS, different art style) Gow3 graphics and art style is phenomenal, and i do agree that people downplayed them just because of the visuel choices by the devs to "immerse" us into the chaos kratos is causing via the visuels (espacilly the colors) So yes, i 100% do agree with you ZestyMan
Damn I never considered that. Had the story and gameplay not been such an upgrade, maybe GOW3 wouldn’t have been as highly acclaimed. To me it’s still a peak in the series, and with a peak comes the fall. Sad that Ascension was kinda rushed out the door, it needed more time to be developed and loved.

Yeah just like Ghost of Sparta, Prince of Persia Warrior Within also tone shifted to a super dark and edgy game and it gets hate for it too sure, but even that game is so vibrant like this one but people remember it as dull coz of the dahaka there and the absence of helios here. When I played both I never had any problems with the art style coz it made the consequences more real for me and immersed me more. I wish that mentality of gaming comes back really. Not only in games but also in gamers.

2:12 Hey I butchered her because she tried to destroy a pillar or some shit like that According to what Hermes told me Zeus said Hades should let that go But he didn't.
Also Zesty I think that Kratos has his tattoo faded because of the pain and suffering he has gone through (like the skirt that you mentioned on your last video). Also unlike Deimos it’s not a birthmark so that’s why it most probably faded
I'm saying the art style is good, but the colors and shadings make people think the ART STYLE sucks. Also, did i not talk about the anesthetics to some extent?
Do people just ignore the fact that Kratos is ENDING THE WORLD. Of course it's going to look bleak. EDIT: "Why does Kratos look so powdery?" Honestly that's what I asked myself in "Ascension" but I realized they improved the detail of being covered in ash, instead of looking a solid white skintone. EDIT 2: "It's not so bad inside of Gaia" 😏
I'm always expressing _my_ thoughts about the games :) I always say "leave your thoughts in the comments" in my other videos, and that goes for this one too. Except this one has a dramatic outro.
Dude, have you considered that the reason why the outside sections look "ugly" after you killed Helios is because the Sun is blocked out forever? The outside world is literally being destroyed and thus everything looks grey and bleak, in contrast to the colourful interior stages. All of this is purely intentional. I'm really struggling to find out what's the issue here.
Zesty i found your doppleganger. His name is gotham chess and he only plays chess instead of gow. He sounds, Looks, and talks like you. His first name is levy.
atleast people could make mods that make the game more vibrant and colourful but it would be too vibrant in most places and it would suck again so if they just made a remake to gow 3 and fixed this damn gray filter it would do it
Yep, art style in GOW3 has it’s problems, mainly due to the gray-filter, but at least it has a redeeming factors. While in GOW:chains and GOW:ghost I absolutely hated the art style and visuals, I mean every section in this games has some sort of filter to it. Attica - yellow, temple of Helios and Heraclion - gray, Tartarus - green, Atlantis - blue, and in realm of Thanatos it’s the greyest of all grey. Kratos, enemies and environments just blend together most of the time. And it’s even not justified by console limitations, because on psp there was some pretty nice looking games, like Daxter or Medievil.
I know IT is not the place for this buuut... HOT TAKE: (it's accualy hot take about hot take) „Let's argue" and„ Reading bad revievs" are the BEST series on the chanell.

I hate videos like this because I was not bothered in the slightest by the artstyle, and now I'm wondering if I'm going to start overanalyzing everything & stop enjoying it.
The way the art style makes you feel.... is exactly how the story makes you feel- some moments of awe and excitement but mostly shrouded in tragedy. I know you mention that it's a topic for another video but I disagree. You even say yourself that the scene with the chain should be even darker... because of the STORY. I could probably agree that the art design could be better, but where I disagree is that the grays and darker palette are to blame. Like you mention, the game has more colorful moments, but they're immediately followed up by darkness due to Kratos actively making the world a darker place. I feel the devs were going for a grim experience more than a beautiful one.
I believe the art style is working with the game's vibe. Like, Kratos is literally shredding the whole world, which makes it so that even the colors are fading away. What stands out imo is the bright blood effect splattering around.

Zesty, you uploaded your first vid on April 11 2021 and this is uploaded on April 11 2023 its been a plesure following you on this jounrey
I always find "it doesn't make sense" a funny argument when discussing a video game
The game takes place at night, that's the problem, God of War 2 has the best art style of the entire saga, in addition to having the most memorable scenarios too.
Are you actualy gonna do a video on the architecture of the chamber, im looking forward to it
Will do. It's very beautiful.
At 3:42 That Area is also in Gow Ascension!
Can someone explain the beautiful reflective lighting on this game without using the ray tracing on that time of the year?
Should do a full video on how it should look with filters
3:38 Also, why is it snowing outside when Kratos is climbing the chain but raining on top of the Olympus?
If you think this art style is bad you should see DMC5 “color palette” if you even can call it that , it’s just grey
Keep uploading videos everyday i will not get bored 😅
Yea
Thank you
Where is this dude coming from? I've seen couple of his videos now and in every single one his opinions are just wrong. Man i've NEVER heard anyone say anything negative about its art style bcz everyone know why its like that and for that reason likes it, but this dude idk what he does, just lacks the criticatl thinking needed for someone that is old enough to play these games
yes he does talk BS sometimes ... i never saw someone complaining about the AS of GOW3, about its duration, its scenario, the fact that its a bit repetitive etc, but not this
Only a smooth-brained Fortnite kid would think that God of War III's art style sucks!
I thought gow 3 remasterd fixed the colors because I played it on ps3 and ps4 but ps4 I like better because its not as grey it has more color to it.
3:47 simple answer, it was the moon, don't ask how it got there and then left in such a short time, it just did.
It would be amazing if there were others Gods In this third game like:
Hypnos,Demeter,Dionysus,Apollo,Artemis,Eros,Eris,Íris and Hestia with the grandchildrens of Zeus what could have been added to the game like:
Triton,Hecate,Asclepius,Orpheus,Macaria and Melinoe since they are Sons of Apollo,Hestia,Hades and Poseidon
another thing that also Ares,Aphrodite,Hephaestus & Athena they also have Childrens too
It's a shame that these characters/Gods didn't appear in the game who knows in the future.. I believe there could still be two games of the Greek Mythology to close the saga
and in the current games of Norse Mythology what is now happening in this new saga and mythology there would be a lot to do with more two games a sixth game and the origin game with many story dlcs especially in the Ragnarok that I definitely believe surely there will be more
and a curiosity: we almost had a fight against Echidna the mother of all Demons and Creatures of the Greek mythology a shame it was cut and it would have been a fight on behind the Gaia's back in a forest certainly at the beginning of the game from this third game and we almost had the NPC Ixion as one of the puzzles in the underworld in the game that he would die in one of the traps that we would try to uncover to pass the level that was cut very sad that it didn't happen..
and all these things and Gods with yours Childrens/DemiGods was cut from the final version content and they were not added/placed in the game..
Ah, man. I know it doesn´t have anything to do with the topic in question. But when it starts the RE2 save theme at the end, I felt so fucking good.
Nothing better than waking up watching ur channel videos and i made a debut in ur video at 5:38 of live stream comment section and ya gow 2 is better in art style compared to rest of series and it has so many great sections every place feels like something new and great
For a 2010 year game. The graphics are top notch. The best game of that generation ever played. The newer generation will miss this masterpiece. 🍻🏆
8:40 𝙨𝙢𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙝 transition
It does make sense because at the beginning of gow3 everything is actually colorful and as you progress (destroying the world in that very process) everything turns grey
it fits with the tone of the game tho. I hate when people want every game to boots the saturation up by 200 for no reason at all. Also the dynamic range is waaay better in this game.
i am sorry zesty for bothering you with this question but can you tell us please what video editing software you use?
Premiere pro
@@ExtremeGameplays1 thanks man
Cool video a kratos cutscene model or blades of chaos vid next?
The world is fkn dying, don't you get it? Thats why outdoor settings look like that, even a friggin 6 year old can notice it...
It was considered bad?
Hey zesty would you be continuing the ign guide run of gow 1 ?
Of course.
What is the background sound name used in this video ??
Zesty: dose god of war have a bad-
Me :NO
Zesty: but I didn't f-
Me : NO, it's perfect 🗿
Keep the amazing videos best god of war youtuer 👍🔥
Never really noticed the art style much...
Zesty
What you are talking about is not "art style" nor "art Design" nor "graphics"
Art Style/Art Design is simply the way the world and the characters are drawn (their body propotions, Architectures, clothes...)
Graphics are simply the definition/quality of the game
So what are you talking about?
You are talking about "Visuel design"
Visual design is the aesthetics of a site and its related materials by strategically implementing images, COLORS, fonts, and other elements
Hope these shenanigans were clear ZestyMan
Thanks, D.
Thing is, i truly believe the characters are drawn beautifully (so art style, i guess) but the main problem is the environment shift that constantly happens. _That_ makes people think the *Art Style* suck, rather than whatever you just typed.
@@ExtremeGameplays1 gow1-gow3 mostly share the same Art Style except for some small changes here and there (think of it as DBZ while raggy and gow4 are DBS, different art style)
Gow3 graphics and art style is phenomenal, and i do agree that people downplayed them just because of the visuel choices by the devs to "immerse" us into the chaos kratos is causing via the visuels (espacilly the colors)
So yes, i 100% do agree with you ZestyMan
Yeh zesty talk about colors and atmosphere and its filter that used to gow3 mostly (Visual design for short) but its abit late to save em now :(
i always found weird why did the overworld wasn't red anymore
Is the background music from a GoW game?
Yes.
Pandora's melody, challenge of poseidon, pursuing destiny.
Only the last one is different and it's the resident evil 2 save room theme.
This is my problem with gow3 the art style sucks 90% of the time ,dull art style. The reason it is My least played main gow game
Just found you and enjoying your videos. In this one I DO NOT know what you are TALKING ABOUT!! It's ALL BEAUTIFUL!!!!! The most beautiful of all the games!!! You are BUTCHERING MY BEAUTIFUL GAME!!
Dude, i LOVE how the game looks. I think i made it clear by the end of the video.
And this is where PC can shine at its best. You can just fix this and enhance the game by a lot using Reshade playing GoW3 on RCPS3. It's just amazing.
It just looks so good. It shows how ahead of this time this game really was. Way better than the remastered version.
I tried to post a screenshot comparing vanilla vs reshade but owner has comments with links censored...
2:08
The beautiful queen 😂😂😂
Now imagine if the gods had Ichor (gold) instead of blood (red) running through their veins!
Its like the game is also rewarding u with beutiful sceneries to get u playing longer imo
i like how in gow 1 you start off with a kinda bad graphics but when you progress in the game the graphics gets better and better until you get to zeus boss fight and it looks so good in HD with the HD cutscene is just insane
Edit : i meant God Of War 2 Please Forgive Me
2:12
Hey I butchered her because she tried to destroy a pillar or some shit like that
According to what Hermes told me
Zeus said Hades should let that go
But he didn't.
Also Zesty I think that Kratos has his tattoo faded because of the pain and suffering he has gone through (like the skirt that you mentioned on your last video). Also unlike Deimos it’s not a birthmark so that’s why it most probably faded
And he repainted it in 2018, huh :D ?
@@ExtremeGameplays1 I mean you got me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I preffer the greyish tone over a vibrant one
Yeah, its true, but i think behind of that is bcs the colors want to show how world its distroyed, how ,,THE CYCLE ENDS HERE" !
We need an IShowSpeed and Kratos collaboration fr
The art style is intentional because Kratos is destroying this world making it Grey and sad
Art style doesn't resume to just color my dude, i was expecting the general aesthetic of the game being discussed
I'm saying the art style is good, but the colors and shadings make people think the ART STYLE sucks.
Also, did i not talk about the anesthetics to some extent?
@@ExtremeGameplays1 Yes. but the grand majority was about the colors, anyway, it's a interesting subject to be discussed.
Do people just ignore the fact that Kratos is ENDING THE WORLD. Of course it's going to look bleak.
EDIT: "Why does Kratos look so powdery?"
Honestly that's what I asked myself in "Ascension" but I realized they improved the detail of being covered in ash, instead of looking a solid white skintone.
EDIT 2: "It's not so bad inside of Gaia" 😏
That was a smooth transition 🤩🤩
Anything better than Ragnarok's Art Style tbh
Well that's subjective, which standard are you using to judge?
I'm always expressing _my_ thoughts about the games :) I always say "leave your thoughts in the comments" in my other videos, and that goes for this one too.
Except this one has a dramatic outro.
Dude, have you considered that the reason why the outside sections look "ugly" after you killed Helios is because the Sun is blocked out forever? The outside world is literally being destroyed and thus everything looks grey and bleak, in contrast to the colourful interior stages. All of this is purely intentional. I'm really struggling to find out what's the issue here.
I agree with you man, this guy is such a damn nitpicker
I dont remember God of War III having a bad art style, maybe try changing your TV settings?
i guesse you are playing the remastered version , because it is muted in comparison to the ps3 version which is more vibrant from my experience.
Kratos look sad in this place 6:56
There is no perfect gow to be onest
I still kinda love them:)
Technecly the problem is not art style, its lighting.
I know IT is not the place for this buuut...
HOT TAKE: (it's accualy hot take about hot take) „Let's argue" and„ Reading bad revievs" are the BEST series on the chanell.
Before watching this video I thoght that gow 3's art style was boring, grey, desaturated and ugly but after watching this video I'm very mixed on how to feel about it.
I hate videos like this because I was not bothered in the slightest by the artstyle, and now I'm wondering if I'm going to start overanalyzing everything & stop enjoying it.
Maybe do a video about of other games art styles
The answer is and always will be "no".
RE 2 ❤️ save room theme
My man zesty slowly starting to hate god of war 3
The way the art style makes you feel.... is exactly how the story makes you feel- some moments of awe and excitement but mostly shrouded in tragedy. I know you mention that it's a topic for another video but I disagree. You even say yourself that the scene with the chain should be even darker... because of the STORY. I could probably agree that the art design could be better, but where I disagree is that the grays and darker palette are to blame. Like you mention, the game has more colorful moments, but they're immediately followed up by darkness due to Kratos actively making the world a darker place. I feel the devs were going for a grim experience more than a beautiful one.
