Some people are getting the point of this video wrong. Points like:
    -He needed them to progress
    -He wasn't innocent
-What do you mean it's out of character!?
    - B- but the novels!
I'm aware of all these points but these are not the point of the video. It's the way the murders are _treated_ is what I'm talking about. Kratos "needed" the Princess (he could've lifted the gate)? Okay. Fine. It's still treated and played in dark comedy fashion.
Kratos needed all the victims in the video above. That doesn't change anything, and it especially is not the point of the video.
There's also the whole "Kratos regrets what he did to the boat captain. It's character depth" that I don't quite agree with. It's all a matter of taste. I personally don't find it a good thing in Valhalla that they made the boat captain situation serious and weight holding.
Something that's always been a joke and a running gag, being turned into some serious thing all of a sudden doesn't click with me and that's where _I_ stand on the boat captain subject. You like a running gag turned into a serious manner arc? That's you.

I think it's at least interesting to try and turn the tables on the running gag, making it in a serious tone all of a sudden. But also i think they might do this just to close this theme and never mention him again.

@@ExtremeGameplays1 tbf GoW3 already took it kinda seriously. I mean, the way his note is written always makes me feel bad for the guy. All his other entrances do not, at least not this much.
And here, i think they intentionally gave him so much attention and even sort of apology from Kratos to put this joke to rest. I think you'll agree, after everything said about him in Valhalla, making fun of him again will be a bit weird and inappropriate. It was a great gag though, i'm gonna miss this lad (if my thoughts are correct).

I heard somewhere Zestos, that Kratos and his ship crew where heading to Athens, but the boat captain refused or someshit like that, and the boat captain had a section of the ship with a bunch of slaves. So the reason why Krate killed Pimp captain was because he was a bad man and he took the key to save the slaves?? I might just saying a whole bunch of nonsense, but still, it’s interesting.

Humour is prevelant in every piece of media, it's just expressed differently.
God of War is not resident evil or devil may cry, it's not gonna make you haha with cheesy one liners, it's about the tone of the game.
Bayonetta's humour is expressed with over the top insane shit on screen, Gears of War's humour is expressed through self-aware dialogues, dead space's humour is expressed in a similar way to god of war's dark humour, by irrelevant NPCs just dying in a comical way that has no effect on the character or story.

I dont think the Poseidon's princess thing was supposed to be comedy, all of gow tropthies have jokes in them, I believe they were just trying to make Kratos make continuously awful things (i dont know why but I'm pretty sure that's the intention, the devs even said Hera's death scene was supposed to be a QTE but changed their minds because it would be too awful)
Great video though, and i do agree with the overall sentiment that these moments are simply jokes and not to be taken as part of the story or as character development
and yeah the dark comedy in these games are very underappreciated, and i think the sex mini games fall into that category too, I've seen some say that they're misogynistic, i completely disagree and think they're hilarious especially the one in ghost of sparta

@@BezddDakota the Boat Captain is meant to serve as an allegory or a testament against Kratos' cruelty and violence against those who became a victim of that against Kratos, but the reason why it's the boat captain and not the others, (especially Poseidons Princess) is because of the fact that the Boat Captain was constantly the victim of Kratos compared to the rest, this is why he's the one that gets touched upon since he's the long-running one in the GoW series and perhaps SSM saw the 'criticisms' in regards to Poseidons Princess' death, that ppl held exceptions by because she is a 'female' and wife/s** sl**e, trust me... that's the whole notion where ppl think SSM went 'too far' and in regards to Zesty, it's apparently 'out of character' for Kratos and with that pointed out,
in Valhalla, Kratos is coming to accept for what he has done and coming to terms with himself but for some reason, Zesty criticises this because of the contrived standings that he has in this video...

I hate how they turned it into a serious subject matter. That's it. Man was always a joke and no amount of novels will unjoke him. A joke and a running gag for every GoW game. Got turned into a serious tale of Kratos "wronging" somebody. Simple as that.

Kratos saved 1 innocent life because he was very close to Kratos (if that same thing happened in Chains of Olympus, Kratos wouldn't care at all if that innocent died right in front of him and wouldn't care at all to save him), it really doesn't make sense how you hold Kratos at a pedestal for labelling Kratos 'out of character' simply because he used a human being in which case, the human being was a s@x sl@ve for Poseidon and was a female for that matter but of course it has to be 'out of character' for Kratos and plays just for dark comedic effect despite Kratos not caring about the lives he takes, especially when they get in his way and in this instance was a puzzle solve that Kratos uses throughout many GoW games...

The boat captain was never meant to be taken seriously. If you watch the dev commentary for GOW (2005), David Jaffe mentions how they were planning to have a Tinkerbell-esque character who would act as a tutorial of sorts for the first level. She would then be suddenly and brutally torn apart by the undead legionnaires. That's a perfect example of black humour.
GOW 3 is where the series, in my opinion, really started to go overboard to the point where it felt distasteful. And that's not just in regards to the dark comedy. Nearly everything in that game had been made as over-the-top as possible, which meant the violence had been elevated to a level that the previous entries made sure not to reach.
GOW 1 and 2, while brutal and often dark in tone, still had a level of class which made it so that a wider audience could still be interested in playing those games. GOW 3, though the most successful out of the Greek games by far, veered hard into edgelord territory and tainted the perception of GOW in the public sphere.
Now, with GOW 4 and Ragnarok, you could argue that the brutality has been toned down too much as a response to how a lot people perceived GOW 3. There needs to be that balance again.

Its not an out of character moment at all Zesty, Its totally in character, whenever Kratos found someone he could use make his path just a little easier he did
Shio Captain was definitely a running gag and dark comedy, and i didn't like how they made him some sympathetic crying story in Valhalla.
And it's just one thing that has bothered me, multiple things they tired to change the narrative around or thr devs simply don't understand how the old games portrayed certain things as many of the old devs aren't there replaced by new ones.
Poseidon princess wasn't a dark comedy at all, never found any humor in it.
Killing thr Athenian soldier, or Boat captain they was its presented its dark comedy but the others not really.

The boat captain stuff they inserted in ragnarok was questionable enough, but all the stuff Týr spews about how Kratos was actually really really protecting his homeland from very bad invaders is far worse, imo. Kratos was selfish and was going to die, and to not die he sold his soul which lead to murdering his family. Not sure why would insert the rest almost 20 years latter.
Again, granted, you can just says this is Týr's prespective to help Kratos forgive himself. Which is own can of worms, but there's that.

Like, even the boat captain scene alone was enough to fell for it, but they didn't stop doing it up until the Ascension i think, and i love it.
Btw, i think Pirithous is also a humour one, 'cause he asks you to free him and offers his bow in reward, and Kratos is like: «Naah, fam, ima take it myself».

Its likes a human walking he wouldnt even consider if he is stepping on an ant
Thats how gods in god of war see it
Mortals are just toys we dont care about
Thats why i dont really see it as out of character
At the very least is in god of war 1 where he wasnt yet a god but he was still far more then just a man

@@aadipie if that's 'badass' then fair play to you but don't go on a misrepresented consensus based around the fact to what Zesty was discussing and how you equate that onto your 'criticisms' against Kratos in Valhalla because of what you perceived from the video against the notion of 'Kratos trying to feel sorry for the things that he did' despite that's not what Valhalla is about, it's about ACCEPTING and not trying to 'fix' his past, it was about accepting his past as a means to how it is what it is and there's no point in dwelling on how Kratos was shaped by the circumstances that he was given and to him choosing in the end that, Kratos is so deeply hurt by because of what Kratos 'chose' which made Kratos feel hurt and hating his past in the end but that wasn't the end to it in actuality...
Zesty's baselined argument was was about how 'Dark Comedy' that acts as a running gag in the GoW games, where Zesty deems it as not being taken seriously at all and not actually having it happened, and shouldn't be acknowledged as being 'canon' but instead be a thing that is nothing more than a 'gag' which Zesty made a point to which alludes to how a the devs need to remind you that 'game is game and nothing more than a harry potter book' when that's not the right way to look at it from an outlook on different perspectives based around your main baselined argument, that Zesty holds an issue with the boat captain being fully acknowledged because he was just supposed to be (deemed) as nothing more than a 'running gag' to fit Zesty's argument of for the sake of 'Dark Comedy' and how that (mis)translates towards Zesty's issues with Valhalla and how what a game needs you remind you...
Zesty is only serving his argument because of his perception that plays as a false fallacy especially when he holds contrived standings on what's not 'Dark Comedy' and what is (deemed) as 'Dark Comedy' which serves a point about how it equala down to being nothing more than a running gag and plays a dark comedic effect for the sake of it based on what Zesty perceives to be actually true that is stemmed from his baselined argument...
