About the original author writing Stampede, I can't find anything about that. He's not listed as being involved with the script, story boards, design, writing, directing, or producing. He gets credited as "Original Creator" but I'm pretty sure that just means he wrote the original manga. From what I've seen he's been in favor of it on social media (He drew a promotional piece with old Vash and new Vash in his regular art style)but that could be excitement from the fact that a story he wrote a little over 25 years ago is still relevant (Which honestly good on him. If anyone's going to enjoy Stampede he should be able to as well).
from what i've read, the staff had many dinners and meetings with Nightow to ensure that they were taking this in a direction he was okay with. and he apparently never had any issue with their decisions. but that doesn't mean he was part of the writing and storyboard process, and to me, that doesn't give tristamp a pass for poor writing decisions. and i agree, if anyone would really enjoy this, it would especially be Nightow

The author wasn't the main writer of this new show, but he was heavily involved with the production of the show. SPOILER ALERT : : : : : : : : : Though I don't get the criticism that these new versions are somehow less interesting or generic. For example, Zazie The Beast, in the old anime was just another case-of-the-week character, a kid that just happens to be evil and a member of the Gung-Ho-Gun, with dumbed-down reasoning for their connection to the worms, and ended up being killed off to cause conflict between Vash & Wolfwood. Yet in Trigun Stampede they actually gave us a more manga-accurate(where Zazie was amongst the most important villains) version of Zazie, that shows their proper connections to Knives' group, and their connection to the worms will be something way deeper than just having an electronic device to control them. And then there's Monev The Gale. As much as I liked the showdown between him & Vash that didn't happen here, I really appreciate that they deepened his backstory, and gave him a connection to Vash, and also an indirect one to Wolfwood and his past, and this time his death also had much more consequences than his death in the source material, and though it is similar to what happened with Zazie in the old anime, it had way more weight because of his connections to Vash. And most importantly, they're showing Wolfwood's past, and with that introduced Livio(who didn't even exist in the old anime) and properly explained his connections to the villains as an element that plays a role through large parts of the story. I mean, if that seriously doesn't interest folks, more power to them, but then I really don't understand how anyone could think that what little we got in the old anime, with Chapel The Evergreen(who didn't even exist in the manga and was created solely for the old anime) at the end of the old anime was any better, more interesting or carried any more weight. And though I also miss Milly, it is very clear she isn't there because they wanted to expand on Meryl's backstory through this shift in timeline, by starting this story with as a rookie that has yet to grow into the character we knew her to be, and them actually giving her a proper mentor, that in the manga didn't even exist. There was a mentor figure in the manga, but he was only seen in 2-3 flashback panels, that was only seen giving Meryl her gun, and that's it. While there is nothing wrong with that, I really appreciate that they care to expand on that. Sure, people can deem it unnecessary if they want to, but I think it's great that they are expanding the story of Meryl like this.
I'd like to clarify that this and the previous video I made on the matter were only based on the first episode of Trigun Stampede as well as the original. I don't know what happens past that first episode, so the reason why I think Stampede is a lot more generic and less interesting is because of that pair of first episodes, not anything outside of that. If you don't get that criticism, I understand, but maybe watch the video that this video is related to and perhaps you'll see what I mean when I say that.
@@etheri0n959 I get that the first video only covered the first episode, but you reiterated the same points in this video, which was released shortly after the most recent episode, without mentioning that you didn't even continue watching it, and are only talking about the first episodes. Though I don't even share the gripes with Vash, Meryl & Roberto in the first episode either.
While i appreciate the new and deepened backstory for Monev the Gale, i personally disliked that they took away the confrontation between Vash and Monev since the Diablo is one of my favourite moments in both anime and manga because Vash nearly breaks his vow to never kill. Monev doesn't even get the single kill count in the new show. I know its my personal opinion, but does Vash necessarily need to have connection with every bad guy he faces? Monev's backstory in the manga and anime is pretty tragic even if we don't see it. He was bought as a slave when he was a kid and was forced to do training underground for about 20 years...to kill Vash the Stampede, his only ticket to freedom. Its likely Monev never grew up emotionally, he has no concept of mercy, compassion or love. He only knows how to kill and bring destruction and has no regard for humanity. After Monev mows down several people and in retaliation Vash defeats him and has gun barrel showed down to his eye, Monev is like a scared child when he cries and begs Vash to not kill him. Monev never had proper childhood and its likely he didn't matured properly.
@@teriosshadow17 They may haven't shown it, but Monev clearly has a kill count in Trigun Stampede. Or do you think he just returned to his mom to say hello and live happily ever after until Vash & the others showed up?
@@MADNESS_NH_97 Offscreen kills. In the manga and 90s anime Vash witnesses carnage caused by Monev has him nearly break his no-kill rule for the first time. While i appreciate Stampede for giving Rollo a new backstory, i also dislike it for taking away the Diablo moment where we see Vash nearly take someone's life out of rage. Sure, they could be saving it for season 2, but only time will tell.
Yeah, I hate the idea that if is made by the original creator it has the be the best possible iteration of the story, and any other person's take on it is flawed. Good anime that stray from the source material exist. Fullmetal Alchemist (2003), Devilman Crybaby, Parasyte the Maxim, & The (1999) Trigun are in my opinion all good examples of writers having good unique visions of existing manga.
@@etheri0n959 The funny thing is we almost have a reverse situation with Trigun Stampede of people complaining its not like the 90s version. *not you, people complaining about insignificant changes, like Wolfwood having a laser, or Gosef Nebraska being Smaller* So there's two different groups arguing about accuracy, when well in reality it's just its own iterations regardless of Nightow's involvement.
Yeah true. I've noticed a lot of the opposite extreme of people dismissing Stampede based on small things. Both perspectives are bad and it's important to point that out.
Everything you said up to 1:30 was spot on, I just watched the first video and I was thinking about how many people would misunderstand in the comments. I knew what you meant as you said it, I think it was very well spoken and understandable. I had the same thought's on that stressful interpretation of Vash panicking, way over done, and the entire scene with the rock I was just yelling "WHY!?". Every anime in this style is hard to get used to. It is always a case by case scenario right now since the style is so new. I FIRST saw it with Netflix's Knights of Sidonia, and it was ROUGH to get used to, still is. This one is pretty damn good, has a huge improvement on stuff from 5-6 years ago, and currently I'm watching because the animation ITSELF is so precise, detailed, and Keep talking, keep speaking your mind, keep being as honest as you are being. Sucks that this Trigun interpretation is going to be something stupid like 12 episodes. It's far too rushed and watered down. At the very least....24 episodes, but I understand how expensive animating to this level can be, BUT THERE IS SO MUCH STORY AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT TO TELL. Now that we have 5 almost (6 soon), Could you do a video on those? I think it would be good. There is a lot to talk about Stampede and a whole lot of interest. Personally I have hated the story as it's told in Stampede so far. But I enjoy watching it and comparing it to the original and the manga 🤟🤟🤟
@@xxmurtagh7xx If it is only 12 episodes I hope it's just like what most anime's are now seasonal and we'll get another season soon. Also I understand the rush part but what do you mean by watered down

@@kingj9664 Seasonal sounds great, if we get at least a second season. If we don't then it sucks, if we do it's on par, if there is a third season or more that's better! By watered down, I mean each character's depth. So far each character is 95% goofy and 5% serious. That is just to big of a gap for Vash and Wolfwood in particular. Meryl is just changed entirely. Let's not even talk about milly......
Regarding the writers of Trigun Stampede, the episode list on Wikipedia doesn't even list them. It's just a bunch of Unknown, Unknown, TBA, TBA, Unknown. So that's kinda fucking weird.
3:40 possibly more concerning is why does the mangaka’s involvement dictate whether or not you like a show (or more over are allowed to) as if there’s never been a poorly written manga. On a note about the rock I don’t even take issue with coming up with explanation for why the rock was needed, but instead why he didn’t grab the rock when he first appeared to try stopping the hail of bullets, like did he just forget that he would need a rock, was there something different about those prior circumstances, or was he just setting up his aim and planned on grabbing the rock all along? 5:40 yeah I think people conflate impacting you as a person or your life with the desire to analyze media through an artistic to lens to breakdown the nuances of what makes stuff enjoyable while others fall flat. I kind of think outrage media critics have warped the perception of the purpose of these types of videos in general.
Yeah, the rock scene would have benefited from the show making it clear that that rock was necessary from the beginning and either have him try to grab it the beginning or clearly showing why he only grabbed it later.
I am an old fan of the first Trigun anime AND I've read (most) of the manga. (I was a kid when the anime came to the states) This new adaptation is decent. It's definitely a new interpretation of the original story. the character designs are different (updated?) compared to the original and, eh, I like the original designs better, probably always will, but the newer designs feel modern and since the series is being made for a modern audience in mind, it works. There are aspects of this new version of Trigun that don't really sit well with me, however; characters that didn't exist in the original story which sort of alter key points of the story that I felt were unnecessary to retell these points (especially where Vash and his relationship with the other leads are concerned. it genuinely feels like half the heart is missing in this series without Milly. She was so much the 'voice of reason' that often backed up Vash's eccentricities and sorta helped tie together the ragtag team under a unified goal). I'm gonna get so much flack for this but CG anime has NEVER sat well with me. I know, everyone gripes at me about this too, but Japanese CG animation is not good. It just doesn't work. It's always clunky and uncomfortable to see the exaggerations typical for 2D animation being forced onto hyper realistic anime aesthetic in 3D. granted, this new Trigun series is definitely pulling out all the stops, there is visible budget put into this and it's a clear improvement from past shows I've seen. But the uncanny valley is still ever present and it still makes my eyes cross and my face grimace. I don't like it, but I can get used to it and tolerate it for a story I deeply love. I don't think your views were bad in that first video. I agreed with most of them in fact and found it refreshing to see someone speak up about the apparent and glaring differences in style, characterization and even story building. I saw them too. A LOT of ppl saw them. Yet so many seem almost afraid to speak up about it for fear of social media backlash. Ppl are so quick to give their 'meme' opinions and get pissy about views different from their own because social media has bred this community of quick wit commentators with no substance, full of red herrings to justify their bad faith takes on someone else's objective views on media. It's just tiresome after a while.
Great video and I totally agree with you!! Also FMA 2003 was the first anime I ever watched and will ALWAYS HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART. Even though I liked Brotherhood; it cannot compare to the character development and story progression that 2003 had. I remember silencing everyone and thing in my house when midnight hit and adult swim started with a new episode of FMA. Anyway keep up the great videos and don’t let anyone change your opinion on how you feel about anything!!
Idk why I thought the author of the manga died (haven't read it). Guess I confused it with Wolf's Rain or some other one. Anyway, I'm going along for the ride, but hope they redeem characters like Meryl because I'm not a fan of the changes. She went from a deringer shooting (dozens in her coat) professional company woman to a rookie that gets manhandled by her superior. Also, feel like Milly was a more interesting character than Roberto and her weapon was badass. I am enjoying the action sequences though and look forward to the expedited darker elements, but can't help but be bothered by some of the changes. Would probably be fine with it if I hadn't seen the original. CG is mostly ok, but really noticed it in episode 3, it makes characters look soulless and stiff sometimes, especially in the casual scenes. I'm rewatching the original at the same time and it's still amazing. Hope they'll remake it again someday.
I watched the first episode yesterday and here are my problems with it so far (CGI isn't one of them): 1. Why did Rem decided to not go in the capsule to escape the falling ship ? There seemed to have enough space for her and Knives even proposed her to jump in . Why wanting to die? 2. almost ¾ of Roberto and Merile lines were exposition , it was a bit painful . 3. Things go way too fast . The first episode of any given show must sale its story to the audience by presenting the characters and the world while also keeping things limited in order to not feel overwhelming. The events of said first episode must also feel somehow impactful to make the character's motivation , past , etc fell credible. This episode didn't do that. We were first in a space ship which exposed less than 10 sec later , than we skipped to the reporters who get lost in the desert , then they meet with a random guy which happens to be vash the stamped , the. There are no build up to anything, things seem to just happen. Usually in a normal when secondary characters meet the MC , who is somehow famous , and Don't know his real identity , there's always time between their meeting and the discovery. The goal is to make the reveal impactful for them . But in stamped , they simply meet and know about him 20 sec later . There was also no indication that the officer who chased vash would accept a duel against him and there was even less indication that he'd use bombs and risk the lives of the inhabitants of the town . This gives the impression that the show is unfocused . Hope these problems will be fixed in the next episodes.
I enjoy the OG Trigun and have been watching the new one because i love this series/ip, couple gripes are the difference on how they take things; i wish they kept some events there like the major know one (JULY), how does vash have a big bounty when on maps transitions and the first episode baddies being from JuLai/July? And Milly?. After watching a bit and reading Crunchyroll comments i understand they are taking more things from the Manga than OG anime; certain characters, origin stories, etc. My enjoyment of the OG Trigun was the mystery of who and what is Vash, we can infer what he is, but never knowing anything certain was cool when a lot of anime blatanlty have 4 minutes dedicated on telling you what happen and how.
I see your point. Even though I'm personally enjoying the new trigon I can kind of see why most people wouldn't instead of it being more lighthearted like the original anime it takes them more darker approach which I'm told was in the manga. I still wanna see what happens though but I understand your complaints
I've just come to see the new one as fanfiction. I mean, it has plenty of the hallmarks. Tries to do something new while heavily relying on people already being familiar and invested in the story without putting on the effort to actually make us care. It all appears similar on the surface, but looking an inch beyond that layer shows how different it is, making it recognizable but lacking what it was that made people like it to begin with. Add in making changes that really feel like "But what is it was like this instead?", and you get still probably one of the better fanfics I've seen. Like Dante's Inferno or the first FMA anime (though I didn't really like the ending of either).
Although the original wasn't perfect, I definitely prefer it over the new one. Surprisingly I didn't find the CG of the new one that bad, actually it was a lot better and more fluid compared to many of the previous cg type anime that has come out. But I will admit certain scenes feel either off or wrong and that might be because we're looking at a 3d model that more closely resembles our own human anatomy a lot more compared to 2d anime which have a bit more leeway when it comes to the body making weird or exaggerated motions/poses. The biggest issue I have with the New is the characters. Vash in the orignal was dorky, kinda 'my pace', very competent and confident, a skilled gunner, cringy (the funny kind, like when flirting), and someone who values human life due to past trauma. The new Vash shares some similarities, such as being a skilled gunner and valuing human life, but thats it. I just can't put my finger on it, but what was supposed to be a comedic character kinda came off as a whiny or crying baby. I haven't gotten too far into stampede yet, but the first episode of both series definitely show how different Vash is portrayed in both. Very different nuances. Other than that, it's very sad to see Millie getting replaced by the 'wise old man that's seen shiz' character. Millie and Meryl was a pretty nice duo in the original, in the new one they just kinda felt bland. Overall the new Trigun isn't good or bad imo, it just kinda seems meh. Hope you finish the entire series and give an updated review of old vs new.
I guess your issue with the new characters is the same as mine. I don't like Roberto because he is Milly's replacement and reminds me of this guy who was hired to kill Vash. Vash is a depressed child, the lyrics of Tombi are the characterisation of his Character. Wolfwood is Vash's babysitter instead of his partner and Meryl is an unexperienced girl instead of an capable , but Stampedes Meryl is the same age (23) as Meryl in the Manga (23 after the timejump). Trigun Stampede is not my cup of tea, I think it's mediocre. But in my opinion, it deserves more seasons, because it has a fanbase and the Manga provides interesting characters like Milly and the Gung Ho Guns, and enough storrylines for more than 12 episodes. A second season could be less bland. My knowledge of english is not very good, I hope you get what I mean.
@@kalter_tofu1391 I really have no idea why they decided to replace Millie. It's not even part of the manga (correct me if i'm wrong, pretty sure Millie is in the manga). But i guess if its a spinoff or a fanfic kinda move, it all makes sense. It's a shame though, that they coulda have expanded on or even explored in depth with the og Trigun as the foundation. I don't know why they decided to change Vash's personality/nuances, and yet tried to keep him somewhat comedic as like in the old Trigun or manga. Actually, when I saw Vash and Wolfwood in stampede, all I could think of is, (Vash is a kpop boy bander, and Wolfwood is a J-rock boy bander) lol. Millie and Meryl was such a nice combo, Meryl being the straightman and Millie being the pure and airheaded type. Millie was the gentle giant that the badlands needed, and they cut her out for Roberto which i guess helps keep the mood and tone? I agree with you in that it's mediocre. Maybe I just have rose tinted glasses or something, and i'm just saying the old one is better. But I haven't watched trigun for 20+ years, and only seen it once. When I saw Stampede, it was pretty bland IMO and have decided to try out the old tv series again. Gotta say, I still recommend people to watch the Old Trigun first before watching stampede. So take my opinion however you want. But yeah, take my taste in anime with a grain of salt. I'm a nerd that loved watching anime like FLCL, Chobits, eureka7, and Vandread (not gonna name the common og's like bebop etc).
@@aokami7096 A TV Station here in Germany has a few Anime and broadcasted Trigun some weeks ago. I liked it, read the manga online in a few days and bought the Badlands Rumble DVD. Therefore my memories of the old anime and the manga are quite fresh. Could be a reason why Trigun Stampede is not really my cup of tea, because I don't think Stampede is bad. It's just unlike the Trigun I know and like.😐 Maybe they explore the story of the Manga in a second season, give Roberto an office-job and bring Mille as Meryl's partner. I guess there will be a timejump after the July-Incident. In the manga Lost July was 10 - 20 years before the first chapter, as far as I remember. In the manga, Millie is Meryl's partner. In the last chapter Meryl and Millie are reporters, like Meryl and Roberto in Stampede. I guess Millie and Meryl became reporters in the manga, because they like Vash and want to travel with him. As reporters they have a reason to follow him 24/7. 😄
It could also be that 3d animation has been used to aim for "realism" rather than its own artistic medium for a long time. So designs are encouraged to be more realistic, though I think it's a missed opportunity since it's possible for fluid animation while being extremely exaggerated and stylized.
Have you kept up with the recent episodes that have been airing? I'm someone who has come into the trigun fandom having only watched Stampede so far, so I've been a little ignorant on the changes that have been made compared to the original anime and even the manga. If you don't plan on it, that's cool too and I wouldn't blame you if it had anything to do with the kinds of comments you got on the first video...

While I can understand the desire to put out Vids like this I do have a bit of advice. Your only really showing these people that they are getting to you. Some people just want to get under your skin in the Comments, and by making a Video like this they know its working and will try to do so again. As you become bigger you will get more people who try and Troll you, and this will only encourage them to try harder. Calm down man, I wouldn't be worried about Stampede overshadowing Trigun 98, mainly because it's gonna be a shorter series and it's in a different medium. Actually seems like way more people are watching Trigun 98 now thanks to it. I am enjoying Stampede for what it is, in spite of it lacking in terms of characterization (particularly for Vash). Also not sure where that commenter got that the original author is writing Stampede (though I wouldn't be surprised since it has a similar, more serious tone like the manga), not that it matters even if it's true, as an argument it's just an appeal to authority anyways.

Yeah, the anime community seems to have an unhealthy obsession with manga accuracy and it can be frustrating to deal with
@@etheri0n959 The funny thing is we almost have a reverse situation with Trigun Stampede of people complaining its not like the 90s version.
*not you, people complaining about insignificant changes, like Wolfwood having a laser, or Gosef Nebraska being Smaller*
So there's two different groups arguing about accuracy, when well in reality it's just its own iterations regardless of Nightow's involvement.
This one is pretty damn good, has a huge improvement on stuff from 5-6 years ago, and currently I'm watching because the animation ITSELF is so precise, detailed, and
Keep talking, keep speaking your mind, keep being as honest as you are being.
I'm definitely going to cover Trigun again soon. For now, I'm working on some other stuff, but I will be talking about the show again
@@etheri0n959 Noice 👍.
@@xxmurtagh7xx If it is only 12 episodes I hope it's just like what most anime's are now seasonal and we'll get another season soon. Also I understand the rush part but what do you mean by watered down
@@etheri0n959 When you 1st made your video on trigun and I responded to you if I was being disrespectful in any way I'm really sorry about that wasn't my intention. Really enjoyed this video and I understand what you're saying about try gone even though I personally been enjoying the stampede I'm starting to see why other people would have a problem with it, Anyway like I said good video man and can't wait to see what else you make
@@kingj9664 Seasonal sounds great, if we get at least a second season.
That's pretty bizarre. If they are ever revealed that'll clear up a lot of things for me.
My guess as to why he threw the rock is because he didn't have time enough for just the one bullet to destroy every one of them.
*obligatory “I did in fact know about the original adaptation of Horimiya and I loved it” comment*
Glad you liked the video. I'll make sure to keep giving my honest thoughts on the show as it continues!
Yeah, hope it gets better and some of the characters start shaping up
I watched the first episode yesterday and here are my problems with it so far (CGI isn't one of them):
Is it ever explained what happened to Vash spiky 90s hair?
It's probably just a redesign
@@etheri0n959 An unwelcome change among many others.
@@etheri0n959 Yet Wolfwood refers to him as needle noggin in this new anime anyway.

A TV Station here in Germany has a few Anime and broadcasted Trigun some weeks ago. I liked it, read the manga online in a few days and bought the Badlands Rumble DVD. Therefore my memories of the old anime and the manga are quite fresh. Could be a reason why Trigun Stampede is not really my cup of tea, because I don't think Stampede is bad. It's just unlike the Trigun I know and like.😐
Maybe they explore the story of the Manga in a second season, give Roberto an office-job and bring Mille as Meryl's partner.
I couldn’t of said it better
Have you kept up with the recent episodes that have been airing? I'm someone who has come into the trigun fandom having only watched Stampede so far, so I've been a little ignorant on the changes that have been made compared to the original anime and even the manga. I liked your first video about episode one so was wondering if you were going to make a video on any more. If you don't plan on it, that's cool too and I wouldn't blame you if it had anything to do with the kinds of comments you got on the first video...
I haven't kept up with it recently, but I do plan on covering the entire show. Right now, I'm just waiting for the episodes to build up so I can cover a lot at the same time.
I know it can be hard to do, but you really need to learn to ignore unreasonable people like that, because they are not looking to have reasonable Discussions.
Yeah, I get that. As I go forward I'm definitely gonna stop doing things like this. I fully agree that this is exactly what these types of commenter want to see and I don't think I'll put out another video like this. Thanks for the advice, genuinely appreciate it
called out idiots so it would be cringe of them to dislike the video lmao
