    The Red Glow might just be my favorite episode of the series. It’s so dark and atmospheric and I absolutely love how they expanded on the whole Lab 5 plot. It’s so boring in brotherhood’s version.

    FMA in general unlike most shonen doesn't have traditional "Arcs" rather it is one continuous story. The one exception I see brought up is the Promised Day Arc, which fair I can see why that counts. However, I also think it is impressive that FMA 03 was essentially able to turn the entire 5th laboratory incident into basically its own little mini arc.

    • @ThePreciseClimber
      @ThePreciseClimber Год назад +6

      I mean, you COULD split it into arcs if you really wanted to. The Ishval flashback arc, Briggs arc, Dublith arc, etc. But some of them would be quite short.
      Like, the TPN fan wiki splits the story into 11 flippin' arcs which I honestly kinda hate? :P
      Like you said, if the story just keeps going, it shouldn't be split into arcs randomly. TPN can only be organically split into 3 parts (Chapters 1-37, 38-97, 98-181). Everything else is arbitrary.

    • @katakanatabro2048
      @katakanatabro2048 Год назад +1

      Gonna be honest, you can make 'arcs' out of anything, Briggs and even the early stuff could be labelled. I know some shows that don't even have official arc names anymore so fans have to make them up. I think fma has arcs, people have just not given it much thought.

      @@katakanatabro2048 I mean you technically can, though with most sections of the story being small while simultaneously transitioning right into the next part, is it really worth it. A quick example, are the first 2 chapters of the manga its own Arc because it focuses on the Liore conflict, or is it just the introduction of a greater Arc that follows Ed and Al's search for the Philosopher's stone.

    Al and Scar are walking the same corridors that Ed did. Ed transmutted the walls, ceilings and flooring of those corridors because he got tired of triggering the booby traps.

    Tucker was my first exposure to Chuck Huber as VA and he was great as human Tucker especially when his true nature was revealed but my god was he amazing as chimera Tucker. That whispering tone he gave really does a great job showing how far Tucker has fallen as a person and it really compliments his chimera design.

      @@etheri0n959 And the fact Arakawa herself praised the direction 03 took shows how humble she is as a mangaka. She knew 03 would eventually catch up with her work so she gave them her blessing to go their own direction which was a smart move on their part.

    While the backgrounds were blander during the Scar and Al parts I just want to say I absolutely loved those parts of the episode. The way that Scar is recognizing the humanity in Alphonse by rebutting Al’s doubts, which then will extend to humanizing Ed further and creating doubts towards his own crusade which will pay off in the following episode. Also the ishbal flash backs were great. Honestly I probably give this episode a 10/10. And same goes for the following episode.
    One of my favorite episodes in the series.

      While I can recognize that those parts of the show are interesting on a surface level because of those things going on with the characters, I still can't help but feel bored by that part of the show. It's not just because of the backgrounds, I just pointed that out because I thought it was pretty funny. I can't exactly put my finger on why that part of the show bored me to tears, but I did want to mention it since it was a feeling I genuinely had. But it wasn't bad, just kind of flat and didn't really leave any impact on me

      One of my most hated anime trends is when, during a fairly serious scene, the music cuts out, the background changes to be simple and picturesque, the characters become chibi, and some anime gag happens for like 5 seconds before turning back to normal. It’s so incredibly distracting and usually the joke is not very funny to begin with, and I can’t think of a single anime that runs this cliche to the ground more than FMAB.
      Brotherhood already is kind of formulaic with its soundtrack, it usually doesn’t vary too much with its ost and usually places the ost around the same parts of each episode, and it’s so inexcusable to me to cut out the already kinda notecable and repetitive ost multiple times per episode just for Ed to scream about how he’s short for the 50th time in the series and for them to act like it’s comedy gold each time. Haikyuu and Yona of the Dawn are other decent anime that does this gag, but about half the amount of times FMAb does it

      @@shanemiller1182 Yes, indeed, and its one of the many reasons I prefer the 2003 FMA which does that far less often. I think you could make a pretty successful social media channel by taking shows like these and editing out all the filler/chibi nonsense. The character of Misao in Rurouni Kenshin, one of the most egregious examples, can almost be entirely edited out with no detriment to the story itself.

    Being equal parts BRILLIANT/sporadically underwhelming is just the 03 standard tho! Wouldn't have it any other way as those poignant moments are just SO DAMN GOOD and real believable and HUMAN feeling. brohood sucks so much balls lmao get outta here wit that shonen typical shlock...
    ALSO appreciate the acknowledgement of wanting to 'take down brohood' out of a small selfish clout kind of desire. it's just a human thing! and I can see it that trait explored in our cool 03 characters! wow!!! empathy and storytelling!!!! love it.

    Al has the most issues in these episodes I will not lie, leading to that Inoue episode with the mid detour. I do like 03 Al a lot but like I've always had problems with how he was handled. His identity crisis just was not that well written to be honest since there's a lack of context when he suddenly comes out with it, I like the idea, but it had me rolling the eyes the way it was done. There's some things in this show even I can't look past. I defend a lot of the later stuff since it was bound to have a few screws loose. But with these simple ideas here I expect better.

      I Like the Brotherhood Al more because of These reasons. Cause Al was more of a Background character in 03 and rarely makes decisions there. We rarely see how much Al suffers of this Body. In Brotherhood WE often see how isolated He felt and how guilty He feels for letting people die for him. There was even a scene where the Reflection under His eyes were formed like tears while he was saying: ,,I dont want to spend another night alone."
