So it's come to my attention that the show explained that wolfwood's job was to deliver vash to knives and keep him alive until then. I thought that that might have been the case as well, but I didn't say anything about that because I guess I was just too stupid to look at the screen when that was explained. So if it is true that they explained that, then part of my critiques against wolfwood as a character are very faulty. However, I still stand by the fact that it makes more sense for him to kill vash in that scenario on the ship because all of the information in that episode pointed to him valuing his relationship with livio greatly and the show didn't do a good job of convincing me that he would make that sacrifice if it meant doing the job he was hired for. He may have wanted to kill livio as an act of mercy because he was too far gone, but the problem with that is I don't think he shows an adequate amount of hesitation before fully committing to killing livio.

You are missing a very important detail in this whole conflict though. Conrad & Wolfwood made a deal with each other, if Wolfwood brings them("them" being Knives & Conrad) Vash alive, they would not only let him free, but also leave the Orphanage be, and no longer mess around with the children from that place. So, as strong of a bond they may have had, Wolfwood's overall bond to that Orphanage is even stronger. He obviously never anticipated having to fight Livio, but he had to choose between the lesser of two evils on the fly. The risk of losing everyone, or just 1 important person from his past. But obviously, Vash earned Wolfwood's trust, and Wolfwood learned that there are more ways to solve a problem. Hence why instead of killing Livio he decided to break his mind control by shooting the mask, but as Livio sensed that things could end up even worse, through his vision of Chapel speaking to him, he decides to sacrifice himself to save Wolfwood. But obviously, he won't die that easily, and will clearly return, as Legato stated that they'll still have use for him, and that Zazie was supposed to retrieve him.
Before anyone wants to argue about it. It's been made very clear in the flashback that Livio doesn't really care about what Conrad wants, otherwise, he wouldn't have messed around with Wolfwood in that prison cell the way he did. He just wants to hurt Wolfwood, and if that means causing chaos by confronting him with his childhood friend(who to Legato is nothing but a tool to use in this conflict), and the danger of the Orphanage being destroyed, then so be it.
And sure, one may more argue, and ask why oh why would Legato do that, but that's simply a different story for another time. Trigun Stampede simply served as an early introduction to Legato, and his relationship with Wolfwood. The real meat of the matter will be presented in season 2, with Legato meeting Vash, Wolfwood being confronted with Razlo & Chapel etc. etc.

@@etheri0n959 the other person explained it pretty well, but I think that this episode and some things Legato says about WW and Livio should directly parallel Vash and Knives. I am probably reaching and, yes, we just have to wait and see more of him, but when Legato says "love and affection, I don't get it at all" and talks about Wolfwood's love for his YOUNGER brother it really makes you think about someone else, at least it does so for me. Also Legato is clearly doing it all because he wants to mess with Wolfwood and not as a direct order from Knives, so there definitely is some hidden motivation for him that I think ties into his relationship with Knives and how he views Vash as a follower of his brother's.

I like the original, but he feels more cartoonishly evil with his plan to end humanity and the torture of Vash to get him on his side. Stampede gives him more fleshed out motivation to do what he does which i appreciate, but i was kinda disappointed on how fast they glossed over the Tesla reveal in Trigun Stampede. I think the show made it clear that Wolfwood's job is to get Vash to Knives in one piece. The goal of the Eye of Michael / Gung-ho Guns is to make Vash suffer and realize that he's not saving anyone and that the people he tries to save will always come to hate him. Knives wants him to come around to his way of thinking. Wolfwood would rather kill Livio than risk Knives destroying the orphanage as punishment for failing him. I would have to go back and watch the episodes to see where these things were either implied or explicitly stated, but I believe it was established. As for Meryl, I think she develops a relationship with Vash that's based entirely around the way she sees him and believes in his ideals.
I also want to note that I've been an extreme fan of Trigun since I was a teenager. I own the Japanese Laserdiscs of the original show. I have merch out the wazoo, and I'm a big fan of the manga as well. At 38 years old, the one thing I can safely say is that my love for Stampede is definitely not recency bias. I think they genuinely wanted to give some of us older fans something we hadn't seen before in animation, and I think they very much succeeded. I feel like, overall, this adaptation is going to hew a lot closer to the source material, and that excites me a lot. Maybe there is some bias there in that sense? I don't know. All I can say is that, having rewatched the original anime fairly recently with a friend, it has its fair share of issues as well, and I think there's more than enough room for both of these adaptations.

@@secakaizenart That's a Legato thing that I don't think Wolfwood would necessarily be aware of. Legato is more prone to disobeying Knives' orders in the manga compared to the original anime, where he's pretty much portrayed as a faithful lapdog.

@Shawnji Though in Stampede version Legato is also faithful to knives. I mean, he's portrayed as always singing Knives praises and even is trying to make Wolfwood a believer. It just seems conflicting motive with the actual actions he takes. I mean Legato isn't just crazy, he's smart crazy that uses physiological warfare. (Kind of like Slade from TT) The orphanage is the only thing making wolfwood loyal to knives, it's his leash and legato knows that. Otherwise Wolfwood has no other reason to protect Vash or work for them, Wolfwood even in this version is a type who will do anything for the protection of the orphanage , even if its his own freedom. Legato shoots himself in the foot by threatening his only leash hanging over Wolfwood.

I recently watched the original trigun series (before starting stampede) and it blew me away for how much I enjoyed the show. The sound track was awesome and it set the tone for this western sci-fi series really well, characters were fun and actually showed that they were the reason why Vash loved humans so much. The original cast actually felt like they had this special bond that was both comedic and at time had moments that felt down to earth. I think some of my favorite moments while watching the show were the philosophies for the characters and how compelling they were. For example, Milly had fantastic moments that proved that she was smarter than she appeared and some of the dialogue she had actually brought me to tears. However, Trigun Stampede never gave me the same moments of being grounded or comedic that moved me as much as the original. I will also say that I was totally fine with Stampede taking the anime in a darker direction, however, where they took the story was somewhat lacking. I will give the series praise for its excellent animation style that blended elements together really well and for giving me a new appreciation for Vash and Knives and even giving backstory to the Gung-Ho Guns. I agree with all of points made in the video and I still enjoyed the series a lot (especially watching it in dub).

9:05 I’m not a fan of your Rollo argument. Rollo is introduced as a way for the audience to better understand Vash’s character. He is just a kid that Vash once met, there isn’t some special connection. The point of it is that Vash wants everyone to be happy and he wants to save people yet he isn’t good at it!
Everything that he says about saving the kid is stuff that he wants to be true about himself. That he saves everyone no matter how dire the situation. Wolfwood is the realist. He says that you were never there for him, that you didn’t know him! That he isn’t important. And that killing him put him out of his misery because you already failed to be there for him. It’s a message that Vash can’t be everywhere all at once, and he can’t protect everyone no matter how desperately he wants to.
The relationship isn’t forced. There is no relationship. Vash is more upset because he failed, not just because Rollo is dead. Him saying “why did you kill him” to Wolfwood always meant to me “I had it under control”. Maybe I’m stretching a bit, but it makes more sense for Vash’s character to be someone who wants everything to work out the way he imagines, but never push away others who might stand in his way.

Rollo was a kid he met multiple times. I mean first with the baby picture. That implies that he has some connection to the towns folk and people. The second time is when he meets back up with the kid and takes him home. Vash tells him a cruel lie. That he would be there for him. Even though he wouldn’t. He just left and never came back wtf? It’s hard to believe that vash “a protector of people” just leaves and lets situations to get worse even though “he cares about humanity”. Pretty much he likes rems ideals but doesn’t believe in them in this version. Which I don’t mind if the ending didn’t try to convince me otherwise that vash is supposed be “ somebody who will runaway and come back” he’s not, he runs away just cause. I don’t mind a weak protagonist but the series seems to not challenge vash really. Maybe point out his faults but then excuses them cause of his trauma.
There are multiple times in the series where I asked myself, why is vash standing there? His motive is to embody rem’s ideals to keep her alive yet he doesn’t. He waits at the last second to save people even though he has the smarts, the gadgets, the skills of gunsman and superhuman abilities yet it seems like he just exists waiting for an external force like plot or other characters to exalt him. Which makes him weaker not in a character flaw way but just as a protagonist. Constantly I would ask myself, why are we following vash if he doesn’t want to participate in his own story?

  • @landmindssoul4636
    @landmindssoul4636 Год назад +30

3:41 I wanna add that the reason the "filler" worked so well. At least for me, is that it showed me all the characters especially Vash who they be if knives wasn't present.
If given a choice, how would they live?
The old show answers this question that the new one really doesn't or rarely. Sure we get vash being kind to kids or wolfwood giving lollipops. But that doesn't distinguish him from a regular stranger. The old one it wasn't just an interaction, it told me alot of underneath values of the character.
Their perspective on the world, others, and flaws. Vash wouldn't be obsessed hunting down knives, he would travel from town to town teaching people love and peace, playing with children. Wolfwood if he wasn't the punisher, would be a funny "priest" who occasionaly cons people. I think that's what made it so disheartening in the last episodes for me of the old trigun when knives appeared. The cast couldn't be that anymore.
As well those episodes fleshed out the world of humans more than the new first season of stampede. I actually feel what world Vash is trying to save, not just "save the world" stick.
The only thing I like better is the ending since it ties the conflict of story and not as abrupt as the original anime which we knew barely about knives and nothing about plants.

What I got from this series is that storyboarding is f%^$ing everywhere. But when they line it up, damn, is it good. I can kinda understand where the gripe with Meryl is, but also its laid out pretty clearly that she shares his love of life and wonder. She's never backed down from wanting to help him, even at the detriment of her own life. And even though she still questions some of his decisions, it doesn't quite come off as condescending like in the original anime at times. She definitely believes in Vash's ideals at the start of the series, even if those ideals are now smashed to bits by the end of it. Which brings us around to storyboarding. To her, these people were her first venture into the unknown. A crazy old man with wisdom beyond his years, a life loving idiot who'd put his own life on the line for those he barely knows, a cross carrying emo who just wants everything to work out despite him saying otherwise, and herself. And Vash was the key reason they all got along to any degree.

The beauty of OG Trigun is that the first half is getting to know Vash and who he really is. It's about understanding his ideals and knowing his moral code. People say that there's a lot of filler, but all that "filler" doesn't feel like filler if you paying attention to what the show is getting you ready for. Each episode gives you yet another crumb or information and you start putting it all together until the reveal of certain things actually happen. It is at the half way mark where those fun light hearted feelings you were having completely turn to despair. The second half of Trigun will fuck you up. You are gonna feel like complete shit from here on out. That's one thing that I respect about the OG anime of Trigun, it knew how to play with your emotions. It knew how to convey characters and to reveal things in a way that looking back on old episodes made more sense why the characters were the way they were. It didn't just release it's load of secrets on you immediately, it built it up.
Now I've read the manga and there is some very weird stuff in it, which is why I can understand why the OG anime didn't really get into that stuff. What I would like to see (by some other studio, not Orange Studio) is both the OG anime and the manga being remixed together because while the OG anime is my favorite, I do believe that anime left a lot of stuff out. I'm not gonna lie, the second half of the OG anime feels like whiplash. You're just caught off guard and in complete shock as to what the heck just happened. That would be what I believe to be the OG anime's flaw.
While the OG anime is good at revealing secrets in a satisfying way, they also left out a lot of information as well.
The way I see Trigun is the same way I see FMA/FMAB I believe that in order to truly appreciate Full metal Alchemist, you need to watch both FMA and FMAB and the reason is because they both have their strengths and weaknesses. FMA focuses more on the character development and explanation of plot, while FMAB kinda skates over that stuff and just gets into it, expecting that you already know. Now, both anime go their own way, so something you learned from FMA, might not be the same in FMAB, however when the things do line up from both of them, you have a better understanding of it. This is how I see OG Trigun anime and the Trigun manga.

For the part with Wolfwood and Razlo/Livio, its a bit confusing since they crammed something like two volumes of the manga into one episode, plus changed things around. How the fight happened in the manga was better and made more sense. Also in the manga he wasn't trying to kill him, he was in fact trying to stop him without killing him, somewhat mirroring the original episode where Wolfwood decided to try and stop someone without killing them and he himself dying. The manga also explained better that Wolfwoods job was to keep Vash alive, since Knives didn't want Vash to actually die, just to see humans and monsters deserving to die (even though Knives was making them do it, i must admit I always thought Knives plan was a little dumb,) it was Legato that was trying to actually kill Vash. This is the problem I've had with those saying its closer to the manga because its really not, sure they had some manga only characters and a more somber tone like that later manga did, but the background of those characters is way different in some cases and with storyline was still drastically changed. The original anime is still closer to the first few volumes of the manga then this is to th rest of the manga.

The twins' relationship is easily the most interesting part of this anime.
My biggest gripe with the series is the same one I have with like 90% of new anime releases - the 12 episode format. In my opinion, it kills a lot of shows and makes them sacrifice certain aspects of the story that would've shined if the show had at least 2-3 more episodes. The pacing of the first 4 episodes is all over the place, characters go in circles and run from place to place, sometimes it feels like the travel time doesn't exist for them at all (esp in ep2, that one must be the episode I genuinely dislike just from how disjointed it feels, especially compared to the later way better put episodes). On the same rewatch I noticed that 2 months pass from the episode 1 to Vash getting to July and it /does not feel like that at all/ (they announce the date on the radio in ep1 which is may 25th and yeah july incident is july 21st). The characters spending 2 months together would explain them being so close but still, we barely see anything from that time, we get glimpses of like 5 days and that's it.
Although, I think them not getting too close to Vash makes a lot of sense, because that's how this version of Vash is. He meets people, he helps them, he naively thinks that he's established a connection with them and then he walks into the sunset. I think that perhaps the thing with Rollo, his connection and some insane things he says to him ("You won't have to be alone again!" Are you for real now?) are supposed to be Vash's delusions. Same with Rosa and the Geneora Rock arc. Vash establishes connections in a very unique and roundabout way and I think it serves his character arc in this anime specifically. And yes, others mentioned it before, but most likely the main development of the mcs' friendships would fall into s2. Still, Vash's presence changed WW's and Meryl's lives and now they are forever connected to him and will search for him again. They might not have been the best of friends but you can clearly see how those characters change by the end of the show, even if just a little. Meryl picks up a gun for the first time, but she picks it up because she wants to help (just like Vash). Wolfwood goes out of his way to save Meryl in ep12, even though he quite literally didn't have to do that (just like Vash).
I think this show's writing is very subtle, perhaps TOO subtle at times. You can say I am reaching or seeing things that aren't there but I don't know, I think this stuff is quite literally there in the open. Still, I agree with you that certain scenes and story beats lack impact and everything that precedes episode 6 is kinda okay-ish writing-wise. But I blame this on the damn 12 episodes.
I am hopeful for s2 and at the same time I am scared since they probably want to wrap up the entire story in the next 12 episodes. Having 24 episodes total for a show isn't bad, considering the '98 version has 26 and it is an overall complete story. It's just fascinating to me how that (98) anime manages to tell so much in such a short period of time. But yeah, a lot of setting up has been done by this season and we can only hope that the quality would only get better!

Nice video. Your overall feelings on the show line up well with mine, and even when they differ your criticisms are thoughtful. I am hoping the stuff that didn't work for me will get ironed out for season two, now that they've cut their teeth and done their setup. Looking forward to it.
I was surprised on your perspective of Wolfwood. I actually thought his motivations were the clearest out of all the protagonists, by far. To clarify, he was defending Vash because that *was* his job. He was supposed to deliver him safely to July and into Knives' hands, which would finish his contract and protect the orphanage going forward. His willingness to kill Livio is tied to what he said about Rollo in the previous episode, about him being too far gone and the kill being mercy-- that's a genuine belief, not something he made up to justify himself to Vash, and it's a very different kind of motive than a purely pragmatic "if I didn't kill him, he would have killed you".
So the big question remaining is why Legato and Zazie were going out of their way antagonize him and make his job harder when he's working for their boss. The only reason we're really given is... Legato's insane personal vendetta, I guess. I have theories about the reason, but they're all based on information *from other versions of Trigun*, which is a problem for Stampede as a self-contained work. Even if it's retroactively explained, I think the ambiguity is just going to be a point of confusion for most of the audience, not an interesting mystery.

Yeah, his complaints about Wolfwood didn't really seem to stem from a "Trigun Stampede problem", but simply a "him problem", like him
That whole situation also served as character development for Wolfwood, as there are more ways to solve these conflicts other than simply killing, and he goes beyond that and learns to trust Vash enough to let him save the orphanage. Wolfwood may have signed a contract with Conrad, but they already established in the flashback, that Legato doesn't want to obey to these rules and just wants to fuck with Wolfwood. Could be a simple personal vendetta, but perhaps this could also stem from a sense of jealousy from stemming from the strong bond he feels he has with Knives, which surely will get further explained in Season 2 when they're likely to reveal his backstory.

I'll take your word for it that they did indeed explain it though. My bad, should have looked into it more. I still think it would make more sense for him to try and help livio out in that conflict since as I said, even if you explained by wolfwood putting his brother out of his misery and saving his brother, I felt like there should have been more hesitation on wolfwood's part because this is a person he actually has a connection with unlike rolo from episode 5

Stampede is set in the timeline before all the meaty "tightening of bonds" and friendship technically happens in source material.
Despite being a "retelling" of the story it is still an "adaptation" no matter how open it is to tuning up stuff. It can change and switch stuff but there is still a "bone story structure" Stampede can't break and must abide by to still be "called" Stampede.
The showcase of strong friendship happens post the July incident and are often rooted to the topic of getting Vash over that July guilt so....
It might be too great of a deviance if they pull all those bonding events way too early.

Like I said in the video, I wouldn't have a problem with this cast of characters if the show didn't portray their relationship as if they were a close group of friends. That scene at the end where Meryl was looking at the photo of all of them was clearly supposed to serve as that.

    • @Snzn_7
      @Snzn_7 Год назад +1

@@etheri0n959 nah, there relationship at this point is more of that of a group of friends you only met and and spent much time like in a month long summer vacation.

You can make a really strong fun memories with a lasting impression on a summer vacation but still that is just a short amount of time to be that very tight knit to a person.
Yes they did portray that they do have some sort of special bond but it's still a budding flower of bond given the time they just spent by the end of Stampede.
Like Vash is still clearly more closer to the the two SEED personel than the other main cast.

      @etheri0n959  Год назад +4

I'm saying that the amount of reflection that the show dedicates to this relationship isn't fitting for the nature of the relationship itself. You said yourself they aren't as close and their relationship is like they just spent one summer vacation together or it's like a budding flower. Well the way they portrayed that is still way too overblown especially since they made Meryl serve as vash's last tether to reality. If you spent one vacation with someone, would you consider them close to you enough to serve as the last thing keeping you from going over the edge into the brink of despair? If you don't know them well enough and your relationship with them is still growing, you probably wouldn't. If the show dialed it back a bit and made it clear that they were going for that specific vibe, then it would be fine, but as it is, it doesn't work.

    • @Snzn_7
      @Snzn_7 Год назад

@@etheri0n959 Yes Meryl did serve as the one who did try to bring Vash back to reality, but you see it in the episode itself that Vash internally was brought back by the memory of "Rem".
Meryl was there to wake him up "physically", since obviously she was the only character at that place who will try to wake Vash up.
Vash did not wake up due to some "power of friendship" at all.
Its more of that somebody is physically waking him up, and Vash himself internally regaining awareness of him being brainwash.
Since objectively, it is Vash's plant powers that allow all the shenanigans to happen and it's more of Knives using those powers.
I wonder when did Stampede ever showed something that they are really "that" close. For you to ask for them to "dial it down" when you said in your first reply Stampede do lack these aforementioned bonding moments.
Roberto always will vocally voice out he would rather leave than to get into trouble with the Gang.
Meryl keeps inserting herself into Vash's business mainly because of her stubbornness to actually find out Vash's story rather than her primarily caring about Vash. It's more of her character trait and her personal justice and moral code that she keeps following Vash and trying to help him.
Wolfwood will go rather go solo when things gets personal as we see with the Livio situation.
Vash also never really tells his story and just leave the gang to piece the story together. ( The gang mostly heard Vash's story when they went to the SEED ship)
Vash will willingly help anybody I need cause that is more of his character trait.
Like objectively the gang stuck together mainly due to personal businesses and not because they are friends in the first place.
And the Livio and Orphanage situation is the spark to Vash and Wolfwood closeness. And the July incident is that for Merly to Vash.
I don't know maybe since you don't know how the "Gang", work together when they actually will have "each other's back".
You really won't pick up the level of depth of their relationships at points in the story's timeline.
Also I don't agree that the show needs to make it spoon feed define the levels of bonds they have.
That aspect worked for Aot, only after watching the following seasons that you can pick up more subtle things sprinkled in the following season.

i agree with a lot of the points in this video cause-- i also like tristamp but its just not as good as the original?? i actually enjoy some changes they made to the story like zazie having a greater role by bringing a third ideology to the table/a third faction (vengeance against humans for their cruelty vs. love towards them as creatures that deserve to live as much as anything else vs. the fear that humans will do to gunsmoke what they did to earth), as well as some of the designs- zazie and knives i feel got a glow-up for example, zazie moreso than knives but still, and i like meryl's new hat :]]] i look forward to seeing milly again in the next season but my greatest fear is that they'll her shorter + skinnier...... they already cropped vash and straightened wolfwood's nose so i am very much worried about my favorite big girl 😔
i'm lukewarm about roberto he just grew on me after a bit but im definitely kinda peeved that they wrote out a compelling female character to add another mean and jaded man, he feels like (stampede) wolfwood in a sense but worse
i am conflicted about knives. i like him overall, both in design and characterization, but hes very different from 98 knives and i dont know if its for the better or for worse.
98 knives was extremely anxiety-inducing for me but in the good way some villains can be, like. if he's on screen you know the writers are NOT FUCKING AROUND. SOMETHING BAD WILL HAPPEN. that sense was not only aided by his design but also by his & legato's theme, that EAS alert-like sound really helps instill the fear of god in you
tristamp knives was better in some senses, like his "motive" being clearer. tristamp actually tells you that hes doing it in the name of plants, even if it isn't totally the truth and it just became as a cover-up for his true desire of just hurting humans if it ever was anything more than that, while in 98 it felt a little more nebulous. he was a lot less scary than 98 knives but he was still a joy to watch on screen, his design is banger but- now back to the point i wanted to make, their vibes are vastly different and that feeling is aided by their designs. 98 knives feels very clean & proper & "nice". he's your handsome white christian older brother whos in the military and that visual aids to how scary he is.
tristamp knives has a more "out of this world & time" vibe which isn't bad, just doesn't help make him scarier, which for me personally is a slight downside. however i just think hes very pleasing to look at! that tight body suit he always wears really sells that feel of him not being on the same level as other living beings entirely, hes practically naked but in a way that doesn't feel sexual or vulnerable at all, dressed in this soft-looking white coat covering him from head to toe that turns out to be bulletproof because its made of actual fucking knives. idk i just really like him but not in the same way i like 98 knives.
i also enjoy the visual contrast between vash's red/black color scheme and tristamp knives's blue/white, thats something i wish 98 knives had more of- as well as the little mole under his eye that mirrors vash's i like that detail.
on the characterization standpoint i feel like. some characters have been changed too much in a way that detracts from their likeability also. i wanna cite wolfwood again as an example, even though i feel like given his backstory it makes sense that he'd be more of a jackass and even more immature, but. it just does not spark joy to someone whos watched the original show, yknow? i miss that more like. approachable quality he had to him.
(and also his nose. extremely salty about the impromptu nose job.)
as for the cast's relationships i was more lenient personally, since there may have been budget costraints that forced the team to condense the major story beats at the cost of character interactions. still a shame that we didnt get to see more of them, though, cause it could have definitely helped refine some moments that were meant to be more impactful than they turned out to be. wish we had as much time with them as we did in 98 trigun.
...... i am very sorry for the essay lmao

I enjoyed this video and had many of the same criticisms as you when it came to the writing and actually the animation as well. It just feels like a big gripe with alot of this show was the lack of going all the way with the ideas presented and they just needed more episodes to fully present what they wanted to convey.
As you said they tried to convey the group as tight knit when they really didn't present that bond within the show. That being between their interactions, as well as their dialogue. They just tried to tell us that this was the case. Meryl and Roberto was the only relationship that was semi-believable and compelling within the group, and I feel like many people are just overlooking this. I see alot of people basing their perception of the quality of the show on such surface level reasons like "more manga accurate," "more screentime of a character," "less filler," or even nice action sequences rather than fully judging the show based on the development of its own merits/pursuits. That leads me to the animation.
As someone who literally does CGI, I would never hate on 3D animation as an animation medium or artistic choice when it comes to anime. But as you said, when it comes to this show there are some bones to pick with its animation, and its not just because its CG.
I feel like the majority of why 3D animation gets such a bad rep in anime specifically is because studios look at it as a shortcut. When in all actuality, it takes paying attention to every single frame, just as much as you would in 2d animation (and I understand how that can be lost in the hard work of the processes of modeling, texturing, animation, lighting, etc.....compounding together with the expensive cost of software). But you witness this level of work being fulfilled in products like Into The Spider-Verse and Arcane. Not saying this anime should be at that level, but you can see where the lack of detail and care makes this anime hold up significantly less than it could. From any scene that isn't an action scene being animated considerably less smoothly and kind of slow at times (especially the dialogue), to the detail on the characters being considerably less than the detail of everything in the environment, it just goes to show if they let this sit in the lab for a little longer, how much more phenomenal it could've been. Even the hesitancy of more dynamic camera shots in scenes of dialogue or emotion just added to issue with the animation and the use of CGI specifically in this show.
But those are just some of the things I noticed while watching and hope that Season 2 greatly improves upon the potential that Season 1 had.

Having watched both back to back last week, id say tristamp really feels like its only the setup for a bigger story, but they might be in trouble cause they already used up so many story beats and missed the chance to introduce interesting returning characters. I think they do the brothers' story absolutely flawlessly though, Knives feels much more like a person with goals and motivations than in trimax. '98 Knives feels kind of... flat? Like this is the show's archvillain and his whole deal is... that he wants to make his brother as miserable as he can make him kinda just cause. Tristamp does a much better job at setting up why Knives would want to hurt him at all, from childhood frustrations to life goals to that confrontation in July.
I really want to know how they're gonna handle things next season, I love that Meryl has matured and i want to see her interact with silly wiser-than-she-lets-on Milly so so much. I would like for the brothers' story to take a back seat for a season so they can focus on the humans a bit. I am also very curious how they're gonna handle the Eriks storyline, I loved Eriks so much they can milk it for half a season and id still be happy.
I think you could also make a whole video about both show's relationship to violence, the 98 anime was really gratuitous about it which felt hella jarring at times. But that gave it the opportunity to really explore some deeper aspects of human violence. The rights of the individual vs the needs of the many. Generational stuff. The escalation of seeing someone die on screen to piles of corpses. They handled the rape storylines very poorly which was a shame, but they did try to address it. (unrelated but Vash being a lecherous creep at times was a symptom of 90s humor that im soso glad media mostly aged out of.) All in all it really felt like a western, with some sci-fi bits added on. Tristamp compared to that feels more like a marvel movie. It's still violent but it all feels very stylized, making it more pleasant to watch but it cannot effectively address the same topics that 98 did. It contributes a lot to making it feel more sci-fi and less western.

If vash knew rollo since that young of an age, and he obviously was already sick unless that thing on his eye is a birth mark, and he REALLY cared that much... why did he never come back with the medicine until he was about to be sacrificed? To me that really did huge damage to Vash's character in the series and it was never explained that he tried and there never was any until then or anything, and since Rollo didn't know him he obviously just never came back to visit.
Also personally I would say episodes 9, 11 and 12 were really where I actually started to engage, but i'm glad someone else agrees that these characters never really interacted in a way to make you think that they meant anything to each other (besides knives and vash). Like even wolfwood and vash never convinced me they were such great friends, and tbh even in ep 3 I thought vash and knives' meeting was extremely underwhelming and I really did not like how they presented knives in his first appearance, i wouldve much rather he showed up in the flashbacks only until the last few episodes.

I'd say between the 2 I prefer Stampede Knives over the Original Knives due to how Stampede developed him as a character. I liked the original Knives but aside from his connection to Vash I think I liked the idea of him in the shadows rather than as an actual character where as in Stampede we get know understand why he does what he does and it's very fascinating and Austin Tindle does a great job at delivering his complex nature. I also liked Zazie(the kid), and Monev a bit more in Stampede as well since they were fleshed out a bit more.

is that: there's some not show in-fighting between "Blue-Hair Guy" and Knives!
Blue-Hair Guy frequently quotes that he Doesn't UNDERSTAND Love, (The Fraternal Love Wolfwood have for His Brother!)
And the finale shows that much of Knives's actions are driven by his desire to protect his Brother, Similar to Wolfwood!!!

I liked rollo was more simple because he repersented another bad character that almost caused vash to betray his morals. (The few humans that Vash thought was trash). I would have rather a knives and legato episode since that could have fleshed out the antagonist faction while fixing the plot hole.

I did watch a couple after that, but the difference between the original iterations of Monev and this weird, one-off isolated child/monster iteration were so vast, in my opinion, that it just cemented how I felt about the preceding episodes. Now I'm hearing that same stance, that the last 3-4 episodes are really good, and in some cases it's argued they "save the show," but all I can think is, if 2/3rds of your 12 episodes are bland and/or boring, how much of a victory is it to have 1/3rd that's decent?

Its their opinion, which is just as valid as your opinion that its not inferior looking. My main thing personally is im afraid that anime is slowly being taken over with cgi like it already is in the west, and traditional animation will be completely lost. Knives having Wolfwood protect Vash, while Legato is trying to hurt/unalive Vash, is what happens in the manga. Knives just let's Legato do whatever, which is why he hires someone to protect him. Stampede didn't invent this.
It's unfair to compare Stampede to the '98 anime, when the manga only had 2 volumes completed in '98 to pull from. 14 more volumes came out in the 2000s. Stampede has more manga material to work with. They have no reason to ignore it.
I believe Wolfwood and Vash will bond much more in the coming season. I predict they will spend a lot of time together, like in the manga.

But I don't use this logic since I'm trying to judge both of these shows on their own merits. @@etheri0n959 it's fine to prefer the '98 anime (I love it, it's a whole vibe), but expecting this new adaptation to ignore all the new source material we got in the 2000s is kind of insane.
Moreover, Nightow (creator of the Trigun manga; we would not have these characters without him) worked on the Stampede script himself. So, Stampede has more blessing and direct involvement from the creator than most other adaptations.
We were never going to get a remake of the '98 version. Not with 14 more volumes of manga to pull from. This is why comparing the two is unfair.
If the '98 anime never happened, and only the manga existed up to this point, Stampede would be getting 8 or 9/10 in the ratings (obviously not perfect, but damn near). But because people have nostalgia for a 90s anime (which is good in its own right, no shade) Stampede becomes an automatic failure for being more true to the source material (although it's not a 1:1 adaptation, it would need to be over 60 episodes to even come close).

  • @theshortstack02
    @theshortstack02 11 месяцев назад +1

I actively dislike and am disinterest in stampede from start to finish, i compared it to the original which many people think is unfair. I dont think its unfair to do so as the original trigun has stamped itself into anime as a true classic, and thry are suppoes to be the same characters and story to a certain extent. I felt compared to the original the pacing is horrible bad, the worst of all is when livio is introduced in the same episode that he kills himself in, now i wouldnt mind this if they didnt spend the greater portion of the episode diving into his character along side wolfwood's, but it felt like it was trying to make me care about livio in one sitting of 20 mins and it just fell flat and felt like i wasted my time the entire episode. The part that literally got me to stand up and turn off the anime for a few minutes, is when Legato had a mini fit. I completely hated this and sat and thought "that isnt Legato Bluesummers" the Legato i know is commanding without expression, he is in control without having to take it, and in this series he has this oittle fit about not being able to do something, it felt as if they assassinated his character in 5 seconds. I didnt care that his first intro was in wolfwood's backstory, but then they have him have a fit and it just wasn't legato. Another thing that i loved about rhe original is that it takes 5 episodes for Vash to finally shoot his gun and you as the viewer are unintentionally building up to that moment when he finally draws his weapon and when it happens it doesnt feel wasted. Stampede feels like it wants to use its best cards right away to get a win, but loses because it now has nothing else to give, where as in the original it was calculated with its placement, even if most of it was filler, the filler gave more character to Vash and wolfwood than any of stampede. I dont care about the cgi other than i think many of the shots hold on too long especially in the actions scenes and i wish it'd give more cuts. Another gripe i have with it all is that it feels like it tries to focus more on the sci-fi than the western aspect of it all, where i think the original exceeded, it has a perfect match of sci-fi and western feeling it's like a perfect cocktail, it has a beautiful taste and your ok and happy when its finished. I think the soundtrack isnt good in stampde either, my reason being in the original there is more than just music, take Legato's introduction for example, there is some music but it ultimately sounds like mechanical hell, and you can feel the shift in the scene. With snother thing to note about the original being the use of silence, i don't feel like stampede has a silent moment at all and if it does, it isnt long lived, where as in the OG there are many times when there are only sound effects being played and no music, again another amazing one is Legato's death the way all sound drops out along with music and all you hear is the trigger being pulled the bullet firing and Legato's body hitting the floor, nothing else and it does t make ot dramatic or slow motion or anything, and you feel ever pound if weight pile on you as you hear and see the body drop lifelessly to the floor. I can see some people liking this if its their first exposure to it, but if it isn't i think it's clear ehy the original is miles better, and this one is just another berserk 2016 situation just not as bad

to be fair, Legato Blue-Summers (Blue Haired Guy) is pretty unhinged in general and doesn't really always follow his orders to the letter, so killing Vash is an "Oh well" to him and using Livio to fuck with Wolfwood just because, kinda tracks with who Blue-Summers is. As for Wolfwood and Zazie the Beast talking (Bug Person), Zazie in this versions seems to be and not be part of Knives Group. Zazie seems more concerned with survival more than anything, as seen in his discussion with Meryl when he asks "which side should I choose?" right now he is firmly in Knives Camp but he didn't step in to support Knives in the last fight when he honestly could have. So it seems he was just trying to screw with Wolfwood as well, which again also tracks with Zazie.
just rewatched the conversation Zazie had with Wolfwood and between the doctor and Wolfwood, yeah Wolfwood is working for them, however it is still very much Blue-summers MO to fuck with Wolfwood for no reason even if it puts Vash at risk. I think this version of Trigun wanted to focus more on Vash and Knives and how the world got to where it is and they left it open to another season so them skipping the Character bonding between the Characters, which we already kinda know from the OG trigun isn't much of a crime to me as I think this was more for the people who watched and cared about the OG in the first place but on top of that they made it visually appealing for new audiences so maybe it would draw more attention to the old one and bring people in for the next season. story wise it suffered slightly but from a marketing point of view, rather inviting and tests the waters for CGI anime.

The only thing I agree with when it comes to this is wolfwoods brother trying to kill vash, and rollo. The only reason I can see wolfwoods brother trying to kill vash is knives trying to cause chaos to brew more hate towards vash from humans, with knives assuming vash wouldn't actually die. Seeing more of Rollo's background would be nice but it served the story well in my opinion to give vash more reason to blame himself when it's to his brothers fault. Meryl wanted to do good and when given the chance she did in contrast to Roberto who wants to survive and continue to mentor Meryl in journalism and show that running away is the best in his opinion since without them the true story can't get out if it all goes wrong. Meryl manages to break Roberto of this because he cares to keep her alive and she wants the best for everyone. Wolfwoods conflict with their brother is clearly shown in the fight on the boat, Vash's morals are starting to bleed into Wolfwood causing him to become conflicted on top of it being his brother, but when he tries to eventually save his brother, his brother was in agonizing pain and tried to kill himself, not wolfwood killing his brother. The rest imo is fine to serve the story like the hungry thing just causing others concern because everyone needs to eat and vash always says he doesn't deserve happiness. In the end not every plot point needs to be complex, just the vash and knives plot point.

I can see how people say it could show a lack of drawing skill and use CGI as a cover up. However, you do need good programming skills to effectively use CGI. I believe CGI should be used for the background or action scenes only. The CGI characters movement was too jerky to me. However, when knives died at the end that was a great use of CGI!

For example, why won't he kill? From the manga or the old anime you'd know, here you really don't, all we have to know is how knives says 'Vash likes humans'... Okay, why won't he kill other plants or his brother then..? Or say Wolfwood... What are his motivations? Basically just to protect the orphanage... And then he just leaves Vash to his brother, which he KNOWS will cause the end of the world, and sits idle as it happens??? Excuse me, what the fuck? His ONLY presented motivation is to save the kids, but they'll all die now anyway, what sense does this make??? If he'd kill Vash, he could at least buy them some more time. Or at least fight Knives, either in a desperate last ditch attempt, or to show he didn't know his plan and that it will kill everyone? Nope. How does any of it make sense? I won't even mention the lack of comedy, organic and fun interaction like in the manga or old show, lack of worldbuilding... Also if his JOB is to deliver Vash (which also makes no sense, they could just easily kidnap him in episode 3!), why send Legato and his brother a after him and the orphanage anyway?! WHAT THE FUCK??? Aside the visuals, which also had some issues, this show was pretty crap, especially story and character writing wise.

The only reason we get in stamp why vash doesn't kill is the guilt he has for the death of humans in the ships crash and rem's death. Ngl i don't think that is why Vash believes in no kill rule so much in the old version, sure rem's death explained his extremism on the no kill policy or where he got those beliefs. But him in the old trigun, he didn't kill because of JUST gulit, he firmly believed that humans could change. He believed humans deserve a chance, and through his experience with humans, he loves them. I feel like in stamp, they really reduced his morals to just "preserving rem's memory" or survivor's guilt. Not really going into why he loves humans so much. It wasn't just guilt, he genuinely believed his morals.
I don't like the reason they are giving for Vash's morals is reduced to just trauma. Yes, vash being traumatized by his mother's death and him being extreme pacifist was his coping mechanism. But his beliefs weren't just the guilt, rem's death explains why he keeps those ideals but we don't know why he believes in them so much. In the old trigun, he genuinely believes no kill rule is the best choice.

***vomit of thoughts incoming, read if u want*** summary: Having Vash's ideals stem from trauma is also a comment on attachment in general and how it enhances his moral conflict with knives + what tristamp does right + wrong as a show/reboot
what i got from my watching was: Rem was Vash's caretaker from since he was a fledging, and Vash got mega attached to her (like birds imprinting on another, even diff species. This bird metaphor comes to mind bcuz it emphasizes that hes an "independent plant"). Besides not wanting to forget or betray Rem's memory in a moral sense, Vash also just selfishly wants to believe that Rem was right and Nai killing her (in the name of "humans are parasites to plants") was unneeded and wrong, which redirects Vash's real pain of his caretaker's death into justifying his antagonism towards Nai (basically a coping mechanism, his pacifism is also part of it by trying to prove Rem's death is unneeded). This is expressed when Vash pulls his gun at Nai, the same gun that Nai gave for the reason that "it suits a human-lover" like Vash. Because at the core, the reason why Vash likes and *wants to believe in* (despite him not able/wanting to form relationships with humans (evident from the lack of bonding in tristamp cuz theyre put in life-threatening plot situations all the goddamn time), which only emphasizes my next point further) humans is because he wants to believe Rem's death was unneeded. thats all, doesnt stem from a higher moral ideal (even if Vash takes Rem's teachings to heart), just a kid attached to his mom, which i get why Nai would be so disgusted at all things human and try to sever Vash's connection to humanity and Vash's childish whinings of Why did u do that? Why?("I had it all under control"? Bcuz if Vash rlly had it all under control why does dude only run away stubbornly in almost blind determination ("Stampede" + red geranium link) and not try to solve problems at the root like Nai?). Nai doesnt understand why Vash still protects humans when he also saw the effects of human greed for momentary gains (Tesla, their dead sister), but he understands the importance of Vash's attachment to Rem (which is why he reaches his hand out to Rem in the escape pod? as a final confirmation to see how smart humans r, a final chance at peace to see how humans respond to Vash's kindness(maybe like: "maybe ill let this one human survive if Vash rEALLy wants it to survive, and Rem is dumb if she knows she'll cause suffering to Vash by dying yet doesnt try to promise to survive for Vash"), cuz he knows Rem is going to die in the ship). He sees how much this attachment affects Vash and cause Vash's childish resentment towards him, so he then buckles down even more on trying to sever it for good later, for his own world-plans ofc, but also out of brotherly love and consideration. Nai fails tho, bcuz even as they love eachother as siblings (they do btw, as much as both of them love their other plant siblings) , he underestimates how firm? how stubborn? how determined? Vash is to trying to love and understand humans (as his moral obligation to Rem + prove shes right and Nai is wrong of his assessment of humans), so the brainwashing thing didnt work.
Anyway, why this idea of reducing/originating Vash's morals to trauma is kinda compelling is that Vash is just as immature and selfish as Nai, the big baddie, so who really has the higher moral grounding here? But atleast while Nai seriously believes they could reach a better society without humans and tries to convince Vash, Vash is just consumed by his personal complex and doesnt even have a plan for a better society (only running away until humans "change" their opinion of plants, which i get why is insulting to Nai, like why are u depending on the kindness of ur oppressor even tho ure supposed to be the real authority here cuz plants ARE the food/water/... producers and can decimate humans and create a new society. Yet Vash also has points against this plan, one of them being "You dont have the authoritative right to choose who dies"). So Even tho Nai literally aims for human genocide, we wonder if Vash is really better, since his actions are partly driven by how Nai severed Vash's connection to Rem, and Vash not trying to understand Nai's intentions because hes consumed by anger/resentment towards Nai. Also fits well with Nai's whole thing about gaslighting Vash that he was also an "accomplice" and the instigator for Rem's death, not just Nai, so Vash should get over his resentment over his bro killing his mom already and kill da damn humans, its the best shot we have to end suffering. But as always, Vash is intent on there being another way, an alternative where everyone is happy, which sounds ridiculous bcuz it is and it clearly costs him EVERYTHING in the process. Ironic. Theres more i want to say about their moral conflict (maybe im underplaying how Vash truly loves humans and believes in his morals? tho im pretty sure the extreme pacifism stems from trauma + how knives, humans is at his throat all the time. But even with the time he has to think, he still takes too long to make up his mind so Knives gets frustrated) but-
As you see how the personal conflict rise to world-destruction kinda level of conflict, suddenly personal vendettas becomes trivial and hurts more when Vash says "when did we become so different?". On the rawest, personal level, they both want the best for eachother, yet somehow they hurt eachother the most. In this scene tho, even tho they r both rigid in their ideals, Vash becomes the more emotionally grounded one than the Nai who is really set on using Vash to impregnate plants. So -1 for Nai's world domination tactic.
I think what sets Tristamp apart is their focus on Nai and Vash's relationship: how theyre equally wrong (yes even if Nai wants human genocide and Vash is the hypocritical hero) and how its more tragic that their rigidity and brotherly attachment stops them from righting their wrongs, leading to more cycles suffering, despair, remorse, guilt, violence. Its exemplified further when you know theyre both plants; they live for a long time, so maturation+development just doesnt come easy to them because they dont have the same urgency as humans who dont live for literal centuries. So it becomes like, yes the reason for endless suffering is seemingly bcuz of how human greed comes out of their need for survival in the moment, but its not as bad as being stuck in the same mindset for centuries because youre immortal, or something. Another interesting thing that Tristamp does is adding the 3rd faction, the neutral Worms, whos actively weighing the human and plant's actions, and also whos actually truly immortal and doesnt have a need for attachment (+ this wishy washy which species is morally better argument) the same way human/plants do because Worms are just all part of a neural network, unlike humans and plants who are individual and separated -> which causes suffering in the first place.
Shame tristamp doesnt have the same emotional buildup as the ogs, and i did feel how flat it was in trying to make the audience care for the characters(I decided to consume the ogs cuz i knew they had the emotional aspect i was missing). Even if they are providing story beats + sprinkles for their chemistry to flourish later in s2(the characters DO get their moments in s1), it still takes half the enjoyment and thats simply a show failure. Take the good from the bad i suppose, since I believe Tristamp is cooking new things, and it has something in store for all the loose points.
Anyway, Not a tristamp bootlicker (even if i am a lil because this is my first exposure to trigun, and damn does first wonder go deep). Just wanted to show the merits to Tristamp's existence + how its renewing the Trigun discussion, even if its a failure sometimes.

      - 'Vash likes humans'... Okay, why won't he kill other plants or his brother then..?
he also loves his plant siblings as much as Nai does (Nai is just emotionally sensitive and perceptive in a diff way to Vash, so he responds diff to the plant's death). Vash believes in the alternative that everyone can be happy and loses everything in the process.
      - Or say Wolfwood... What are his motivations?
Oh lord. Woldwood is contradictory af, its alr hinted at when he tells ppl hes a priest but is super unchristian(his worst sin being his unholy boob window ofc) (in the 98 anime anway, they kinda abandoned this idea in tristamp.). Basically, he believes he has a job, and since hes human, he can only think about survival in the moment. Dont forget how they played with Wolfwood's body, bro's sense of autonomy has been violated so hard (it seems Eye of Michael can even control wolfwood's body when he tries to escape in a scene? idk). Basically, how do you balance your immediate job, that is to obey Legato's order or die, unless you also fail at your other job to protect the kids at the orphanage? Hes also the type to believe that even if the end of the world is coming, atleast the kids didnt suffer and died with the rest and that its the biggest mercy he can give to the kids (bro internalized his Punisher role). Hes also the type not to want to do unneccessary, desperate stuff not guaranteed to work (like Vash is), like getting involved in a siblings quarrel lol. This is the type of man he is, he accepts life as he goes. Tristamp maybe fails to show this, which i admit is a failure.
      - Also if his JOB is to deliver Vash (which also makes no sense, they could just easily kidnap him in episode 3!)
honestly this kinda stuff prob gets explained in the source material (which i didnt fully read/watch so idk). at the same time wolfwood obviously resents the eye of michael, so hes fucking with em and delaying it. Or they needed to traumatize Vash more so they had more success rate to brainwash him. They needed Vash to mentally breakdown for their goal and to create the prime conditions for that. idk its shounen plot man
      - why send Legato and his brother a after him and the orphanage anyway?!
ik Legato didnt seem like a big bad but hes way more evil than Knives is and would absolutely love to fuck with Wolfwood. Hes a meddling type, likes to do things his way and tug on some strings a bit. ofc it fucks things up, but when do any characters in this show not fuck things up?
Honestly, i agree with a lot of your sentiments on the show. it was flat af. and i didnt rlly get the characters purpose or how theyre supposed to work together until i watched some of the ogs. but still, its worth something.

@@sadisticc I understand what you, and others mean with that, yes, the problem is, Rem's no kill ideology was NOT shown or demonstrated in tristamp unlike the 90's show (spider and butterfly, etc), so, a new watcher would absolutely NOT know where the supposed pacifism which was a mere sliding mention comes from, and an old time viewer and/or manga reader may know, but the show's changed up too much that it still far too greedy to rely on other sources - if you're redoing a show, DO IT PROPERLY. Pacifism is a big word man, most decent people in the world who aren't familiar with it wouldn't think twice about killing a murderer/rapist, a lot wouldn't consider sparing a criminal too if the situation is dire... So full blown pacifism and reluctance to spare even murderers ABSOLUTELY requires some explanation and build up, tristamp meanwhile has none.
Next is the fact Tristamp is STILL a show... And melancholic, quiet and featureless (not to mention shallow) characters are insanely boring to watch. Traumatized? Cool. The original manga/98 show Vash didn't exactly have it easy either, yet he was FAR more interesting and entertaining to watch both when he was goofing off, when things got serious, and when he'd break down too. Tristamp's Vash offers no such things, out of it all its only the emotional bits that he sort of has, and it mostly only pops up a couple of times... And while the voice acting is sort of there in those, the visuals and audio track don't deliver. That's aside how shitty the whole thing is written overall, being about 40% pute exposition vomit, with writing, directing and acts that make no sense and look really bad visually, either due to technical limitations, or the way they decided to write it and the action scenes.
Yes, the conflict with Knives was the best part about it (and he was the one character that is sort of fleshed out and almost works)... But only about a QUARTER of the show has knives in it, and the changes still made him make even less sense. Meanwhile the other three quarters have Vash, who, despite that, is barely explored and is far more dull, also his part of the conflict and how knives utilizes it (mind control) is not only horribly cliche, but also makes VERY little sense nor scores much on interest factor. Oh, and that's ON TOP of the fact that the naivety, immaturity, attachment and stubbornness factors aren't at all new and are indeed there in both the manga and 98 show, and are far better explored too.
Overall i think that to give this any benefit of doubt and positive points you need to be looking way too hard and deep... All while ignoring its immense failures on nearly every other level, such as directing and writing, music, lighting and a couple other visual things like camera placement and shot composition... They should have just tried to adapt the manga faithfully and focus more on other things, rather than rewriting it all and then spending a lot of time and resources on trying to make that shit work instead! I mean seriously, you have a CLASSIC CULT FAVORITE show that was NEVER PROPERLY ADAPTED AND FINISHED... How and why the fuck would you reboot it if even the ORIGINAL never saw the light of day as an animated series?? I like their other works, but here i think they just used it as practice for their writers and directors and/or thought they can do better, which is something i absolutely hate, trigun deserves better.

While I agree with some of the criticism in this video, I didn't get "they are supposed to be friends" impression at all. They are acquaintances, a hitchhiker and people he met along the way. They don't know each other enough to be friends. As for Wolfwood's part, it did feel weird, but I assumed that it is supposed to be that way. It doesn't make sense because the audience doesn't have all the answers. Not yet, at least.
Watching old anime, I felt that the second half of that was incoherent, rushed mess. A parade of shoddy supervillains with barely any character to them and the main antagonist with a nonsensical name and no real explanation of his motivation. Things like Vash'es connection to plants, his arm and long life are also never elaborated on. Like, yes, he's clearly not a normal human, soo... what is the significance of that? The show is full of unnatural freaks, why's he extra special? There was also no real ending, or, more charitably, it was left way too open-ended.
So all in all, Stampede wins in my eyes, by getting immediately to the point and ovetall being better put together. At least so far, as the series is not over.

Bro it was a masterpiece and it was a prequel literally full circle the og series started with the audience, knowing that there is a disaster in July town and vash doesn’t have any memory of the incident? That’s how stampede ended bro it’s better than the og

    • @etheri0n959
      @etheri0n959  Год назад +6

Bro it's not a prequel because vash met Meryl and wolfwood already and even though he has amnesia in the og Trigun to explain that, Meryl and wolfwood would still remember him. They're retconning vash's history with the other characters which automatically invalidates it from being a prequel. It's an alternate version of events, not a prequel. And even if it was, being a prequel to the og Trigun does not make it better than the original Trigun. If that is your only reason for liking it better, then you are straight up admitting that Trigun Stampede is only good because it is piggybacking off of the original's success.

You are not found of the this Anime, OK, but it's more interesting, than the trigun 90's
-The humour is coming out of many character, as wolfwood, Deniro teasing meryl, even the Beast(the bug), you can feel all the characters issue and their situation seriousness like when the Beast(the bug) ask meryl who is most important humans or Reactors
Wolfwood stand out of crowd, in Trigun Stampede is quietly different from Vash, always critising him, though by the time he have grown found of him, like an enemy turning into a reliable friend, making a good bond between meryl - Deniro-Vash without displaying it through dialogue or emotion
The tension: it's deeper & darker than the first Anime, each episode get you information about the real story The main one, the one that showing up Vash & Knives 's purpose their past , on the contrary the first anime contains lot of episodes if you don't see them you didn't miss anything, annoying
-The atmospher, the ost some of them are mesmerising overwhelming you et put deep into the trigun uniserve, It's darker, more violent, more action, Knives doesn't care about human, they're useless to him, rather he insists on his Compatriots The reactors

Humor is subjective matter, personally i never found the humor and character interactions that fun or interesting in Trigun Stampede. The one that stands out interesting to me is probably Wolfwood, but others. I don't find myself connecting with Robert or Meryl in this version. Meryl talks with Vash like 3 times during this whole freaking show and to have Meryl's voice reach out to Vash near finale of the first season does not feel emotionally earned. Also her agency as a character feels very sudden and kinda rushed. I do appreciate the darker tone of Trigun Stampede, but i wished there was some levity to it.

But the original character of the show is just dead in this horrid CG animated mess. Rewrote entire characters and their personalities. Then put other established characters to their death bed. While trying to say it is a prequel. Just poorly done all around.
