Haha of course!
Keep up the informative videos. Good luck with everything.
welively I appreciate the support! Thank you!
I’m starting pa school in September, loved this little glimpse into my future life
jeepgirl 28 that’s awesome! Which program?
Day with a PA south college in Knoxville, TN! Thanks for making great videos!!
Oh cool! I rotated with a few students from LMU! That’s probably close to you?
Day with a PA yes only about an hour away!!
I worked as a CNA! No gap year, straight into PA school from undergrad 👍
Lucky with a short drive! My ER rotation was 100 miles round trip 🥵
Taylor Anderson nooo you didn’t have anywhere to stay?? My surgery rotation was probably 80-90 miles round trip
Registered nurse here in Campbellsville Kentucky, love your videos good luck on your exam!
john boone awesome! Thanks!
Hey! Fellow Kentucky resident here! I’m a CNA finishing up my undergraduate and trying to decide whether or not I want to go to medical school or pa school. I work at HMH in Etown, any advice on how I can go about figuring out what would work best for me?
Hey! It’s really a personal decision and it is up to you. Have you shadowed a PA or MD yet? I looked at length of schooling, cost, job satisfaction, etc. I really didn’t want 7+ more years of school. Have you seen my video PA vs. MD? I share what I used to make my decision!
Watched this at the end of my day. Thank you so much for the video!
Glad you enjoyed the video!! Thank you for watching 😬
Ive worked as a CNA in a hospital and Nursing home. I was a Supply Tech for the OR at a hospital. I did a front desk position at a behavioral health clinic for one year which included answering a suicide hotline 24/7. Will these ALL be worth mentioning or just my CNA work? Im applying to four PA programs. Thank you!
Hi! Yes, list them all. However, supply tech and front desk will be health care experience (no direct patient care) while your CNA job is patient care experience (direct patient care). 👍
Day with a PA Thank you so much! Love your information you put out! :) -From Alaska.
@@DaywithaPA Does being a medical scribe count as direct patient care experience?
Does a surgical tech count as patient care experience?
Sophie yes, for sure!
Great video! 🤗
Thanks, Kendra!
Rn and paramedic GPA 3.1 overall finishing bachelor's think I'll get into pa school?
you may have answered this question in a previous video but i am just jumping into your channel. (SUPER helpful so far so thank you for that) i am curious what your undergraduate major was? I am a biology major and I do plan on attending to PA school.
Shannon Grabowski thank you! I was an exercise science major 👍
@@DaywithaPA That is awesome that you were an exercise science major! I want to go into PA school and my university had a Pre-PA Program (major was exercise science). Great videos!
I really enjoyed my major. Thanks!!
Hey what stethoscope do you use?
For a nursing student, what stethoscope do you recommend?
Hi! So, my program gave us MDF products, and I really didn't like their stethoscope. The tubing on it is very rigid. I ended up with the ERKA Finesse 2. I really like it, and it's much cheaper than Littmann. They have a cardiology stethoscope that is $175 (Littmann's is around $300). Of course, Littmann would be my second recommendation! You can't go wrong with it. Just a little more money.
Day with a PA
Awesome, thank you so much for the info! I will look into those
loving your videos! subscribed!
Thanks!!
Very informative. Subscribed. One quick question, how do you make a living?
im sorry if my question was too personal.
You dont need to answer me if you dont feel like!
Just wondered how you manage being a student, in relationship, and living seperate from family!
Puni Yun haha great question. My wife works full time, so she supports me 100%! Most student rely on loans for not only their tuition but living expenses as well.
Day with a PA thank you so much for your kind reply! It was very helpful:) looking forward to another video!!
aside from your wife, do you pay all of your part of the bills with loans? do you make money in rotations or anything?
We were able to cover all living expenses with her income. My loans covered all of my tuition. You don’t make any money on rotations!
Hi! Do you know if being an interpreter count as clinical experience? Thanks.
That’s a really good question. In my opinion, it would as you’re directly talking to the patient. Your best bet would be to contact the programs you’re interested in and ask them directly if it will count as patient care experience. Sorry I don’t have a better answer! Let me know what they tell you!
@@DaywithaPA That's ok! Thank you for the advice!
Do you have to go to a big fancy college to attend pa school ?
crownedone200 not at all. There are so many programs out there big and small! I’d say there are more smaller programs, too. And they’re just as good if not better 👍
That's my alarm sound in the beginning of your video. That made me cringe 0.0
Hate it every time haha
I start clinicals in August. I’m super nervous. Peds May be my first because I have experience as a pediatric MA for 2.5 years and she tries to put us in an area we are used to s bit. When I graduate I’m planning on going into family medicine to start.
Lisa that’s awesome! I was very nervous, as well. You’ll do great, trust me! If you start in peds, know your HEENT topics well. So much strep, flu, otitis media, and URIs!
Day with a PA yep. Those were definitely big things. I used to do strep, flu, mono, CBC, and I stat tests all the time when I was a MA. Things like strep the doctors and NPs loved because we had the strep done before they came in the room and if it came positive they would go and tell them it was positive, write up antibiotics, and that pt was done. :)
Lisa yeah, that’s awesome! Makes it so easy!
What school do you go to? I got to University of Washington MEDEX
University of Kentucky #gocats
Alec! Im applying to this program! I also own 2 cattle dogs! Ha! Can you tell me or give me some pointers on how your interview went down?! Im very nervous about my interview. Im in Alaska! Thank you!
Ollie is a cute pup lol 😂
He’s the best 😊
I start PA school in May and I'm still in undergrad..
3M13s nice! That’s how I was, went straight into PA school.
@@DaywithaPA did you experience burnout?
3M13s there are some difficult months in didactic when you almost want to give up studying but it’s temporary! I wouldn’t change my path in any way. I highly recommend diving straight in and honestly just getting it over and done with and begin working!!
@@DaywithaPA hell yea, I'm ready to get paid, what specialty do you want to get into?
3M13s ortho!
Great video! I just recently started strongly considering PA school. I’m a bit of an anomaly as far as potential applicants go since I’m a senior PoliSci major. I am looking to take a year to knock out pre reqs, gain experience, et cetera. ANYWAYS, I did have an unrelated question... where do you get your chinos? Hahah! I’m always struggling to find a good fit so I figured I would ask. I look forward to more of your videos. Great work!
That’s the beauty of PA school! Pretty sure they’re from Gap! I’d have to confirm with my wife, but I’m almost positive 😂👌
Do you go to the same hospitals as your didactic classmates for rotations?
Yes, there was some overlap! A few of my classmates were even on the same rotation together.
Day with a PA Most likely you'll be on your own right? And have to find someone you know for housing or a place the school provides sounds like
Yes. Our program found the housing for us if we were outside of Lexington 👍
Aww what type of dog do you have!?
Mini Goldendoodle 🐶
where did you get your DPC hours? also, how do you study? any recommendations? ive been asking a lot of questions on your channel, so i apologize. but im going to be applying soon and i have TONS and tons of questions lol
Haha no worries at all! I was a CNA for almost 2 years while in undergrad. I tried to study a little every single day. Read over the previous days powerpoints before covering more material the next day. Sometimes I rewrite the notes to help it stick.
Day with a PA cool! I have no experience but I just got hired as a scribe (which most programs do take) but man I just wanna get accepted already I’m over undergrad 😂
Hahah I hear ya! Scribing is great experience when it comes to charting. You’ll learn so much about what’s required in a H&P, your docs will probably teach you along the way, and you’ll know your EHR like a boss.
Day with a PA I cant wait! I want to apply in PA and I made my mind up about the career a bit too late so I won’t have “actual” patient care time, but do you think it’s still good enough for PA? As far as knowledge goes? Or am I gonna be clueless since all I’m technically doing is typing and watching things happen, not doing? I mean I’m 23, so if I absolutely have to, I still have time for experience (MA, CNA, etc) if I really need to. But since I graduate in the summer, I don’t wanna take too much time off between undergrad and grad
Day with a PA and do you or your colleagues have a scribe?
Being a PA, is it underwhelming not being able to make your own decisions without running it by a night authority? I am considering being a surgical PA or going to medical school and becoming a MD. What are the pros and cons of it cause the career seems pretty relaxed but hard working. :)
As a PA, you have the autonomy to make all decisions concerning a patient's care. You can consult your supervising physician in cases where you are unsure, but 99% of the time, PAs are making the decisions concerning their patients' care. Of course, in surgery, you'll always be with another physician and you'll be first assisting. You'll never be doing the surgery yourself.
PROS: 2.5 years of school, a lot of autonomy, less debt vs. med school, still a solid salary
CONS: cannot practice "independently" (I wouldn't really consider this a CON but some would), salary is 1/2 that of a physicians, generally speaking
Being able to practice independently is a hotly contested subject right now. Some are making the push for it. What I mean by "independent" is not requiring a supervising physician. It can get confusing, but we're required to have a supervising physician to practice. It's almost a misnomer. PAs do nearly everything a doctor does and this occurs without the direct "supervision" of a doctor.
Hope this helps!
Day with a PA wow thank you so much!! This was very helpful and I love how generous you are with your answers!! As of now a PA sounds very appealing! Thanks again :))
Day with a PA one more question haha, do surgeons/ doctors higher PAs or do the hospitals?
@@jennakrisiak4552 not a problem!!
@@jennakrisiak4552 the hospital does!
Question is is possible to work during PA school? And if not how do you make money?
It is highly discouraged. I had a few classmates who worked during the summer has the course load was just slightly lighter, but you’re studying all the time so you don’t have time for a job. Loans are what you live off of or loans + spouse if you’re fortunate enough.
What about clinical year!? What if you choose to work during weekends, is it feasible?
No, every 4-6 weeks you’re on a new rotation and you might be working weekends. You’ll want that time to study for your end of rotation exams that follow every rotation.
How much do you study day by day?
Depends on the week. Some days not at all, others 6+ hours. On average, it was prob 1-2 hours a night.
