This is amazing for new filmmakers. Once they control the lighting setup and understand the limitations, then the story will become the most important factor. Love your work👊🏿
What you said. 💯🙏🏽
Hey @theqazman your content is amazing. Learned a lot through ur vids. On another note, I’ve watched the webinar twice today and it hasn’t redirected me to the downloads page 😅
Thank you for this! What I understand is this. The reason the Alexa is so expensive is because it can make the most imperfect set/lighting still look great where as the iPhone needs an absolute perfect set and lighting to look good. When you think of it like that the Alexa is absolutely worth it’s weight in gold.
Beautifully put and 100% agreed.
Yes!
Now I have to figure what to do with the other $99K. 😁 But in all seriousness. to learn videography and to have this capability in your pocket this is a game changer. Like everything you have to learn the tool and its limits. You have shown us that in this video. It helps alert us to the issues you saw. I have the new iPhone 15 Pro Max - thanks to a great trade-in by my provider. I use the BMC app and record to a mini Thumb drive which keeps it a small walk around package. Oh yes, the BMC also automatically writes the proxy file to the thumbthumbdrivedrive which really is a time saver and streamlines my workflow into Davinci Resolve. I now understand where this iPhone will struggle with lighting conditions. Thanks again.
Thank you so much Qazi for this tutorial and practice footage
Of course.
Very helpful, thank you.
Amazing work. Thanks for all the info.
My pleasure. 🙏🏽
Just sold my Alexa...
Then instantly woke up from the nightmare 😅 .. And remembered I never had an Alexa or iPhone 🤣🤣
Amazing! Would you consider doing a short video on grading Apple PRORES LOG 422 vs h.265 LOG from the Blackmagic app?
Wow it's eye opening. Thanks for the video! There's a rumor that the Apple log footages are 8 bit packaged in 10 bit. What's your impression?
Good comparison ❤ amazing video as always 😊
Ty
How can i get your iphone 15 luts????
Hey Qazi, I did the training but didn’t see the LUT for iPhone. Can you assist here please?
Georgious analysis.... BRAVO
Ty
That's the only iPhone vs X Camera comparison that should be allowed on RUclips! Fantastic work!
Just facts and amazing Alexa footage to show what both are capable of but that an Alexa might never be beaten by any phone.
As a German I just love what Arri is doing with their color science and every footage I see from it shows, why pretty much every cinematographer in Hollywood loves these cameras and has done so for many decades now.
But man, Apple really did an amazing job with the log footage. I am currently on vacation in Norway and I use the 15Pro every time instead of my Sony. It's so fast and easy to get high quality footage and be able to directly share it with friends. I love it.
Now Blackmagic just has to develop DaVinci Resolve for iPhone or give a direct LUT Output for the camera App.
I'm genuinely doing the same. Encouraged to shoot more photos and videos.
All this content ends up on a 5-6" screen so the difference is which piece of gear inspires you and easily let's you capture THAT particular moment.
No one is dethroning Alexa anytime soon.
Thank for the love, brother. Enjoy your vacation. ♥️
Awesome and most honest comparison I can imagine. You really nail it when each of those cams have their right to exist and play best at their strengths.
how i can get the lut that he said in the video?
This is the reason that in 2018, when I had a chance to buy either a nice mirrorless camera and a few cine lenses or a bunch of lights from Aputure and some pro sound gear, I went with the latter. Not at all saying that the iphone is better or worse, I realized that from the 10S Max, that it was only getting better and that I could get my ideas on video in a clean and filmic way with minimal artifacts that the average person won't even notice anyway. I can't wait to get the 15. I'm currently shooting a short on the 13 and the quality looks pretty good. Like you said, "throw a lot of light at it" and you'll have a good starting point especially if you expose properly. Love these videos. Exciting times to be a budding filmmaker. Thanks for the vid!
Great insights bro and yes you made the right call. Spending time learning how to light and you can make a phone camera look like a million bucks. Exciting times, indeed.
How do you get the grade so smooth and creamy?
Where to download the lut
Could you make some videos on working with acesCG and color grading 3d renders 👀
As usual, great content! you never fail to impress by the amount of work & dedication! i believe it would be amazing if you can make a tutorial on how to color grade an iPhone prores log footage from scratch especially focusing & explaining the part of color management & the different options one has to go around that! i'm sure many will be interested knowing LOG is fresh on iphones
Thanks !
yeah, it’s on the list, and I appreciate the love.
Must be incredibly hard to do color grading in a pink room.

Gotta make the video pretty 😂, I doubt he actually professionally grades in this setup.
@@PopoRamos you must be right.
Pretty sure this is just his RUclips set, not his actual work setup.
funny thing about led lights and lights in general is you can turn them off when needed, crazy i know
How can i get your custom lut , thank you 💐
I just got the pro max 15 and this is a beast of a smartphone! Awesome vid bro, congrats!
Congrats and thanks.
Low budget streaming features shot on iPhone in Blackmagic camera app. Cut remotely with stock or AI music and FX. The pieces of the puzzle exist. Only time before somebody fits them together and makes the pictures.
Caveat, is a script…but that hasn’t stopped Amazon or Netflix at full budget, shooting Arri or Red of producing weak movies.
Great vid as always Qaz and team.
In davinci colour grading intro colour layer inter in video many colourful layers inter in video please give me tutorial 😢😢😢
Dude what a GOLDEN comparison! Loved it brother
Let’s go, homies. I appreciate that you guys loved it. It was so much fun making it.
Hey man, great video. I have done the training but was not redirected to the site for the freebie LUTs, any advise?
Please dm me on IG
I wonder . Is that a special edit glove 🧤 ? Great explanation by the way good effort too making this video for us
👉11:46 - it is noticeable here with the naked eye. But what if you increase the bitrate of the recording on the iPhone by 4:2:2 HQ. Will there be a difference? I think so. I came across this during color correction in DaVinci. And there is also support for 4:4:4 on the iPhone. There will be another game there.
🙏 Thank you great video

It's because of your popup. Dm me on IG and I'll hook you up. Also, thanks for the love, bro.
As a noob with no knowledge of this , I own a 15 pro max and will like to get into this niche . Any suggestions, I just installed davichi resolve on the PC. I do have a T7 SSD , I just need a mag safe battery pack to charge while recording and we are golden. But I know nothing of the post processing stuff and what to do in that arena
A "correctly" lit and exposed image on almost any film/sensor will look good.. But what you can do with that file/negative is a different story.
Its cool that you can use an iphone to actually capture something in a meaningful way, the way you handle an iphone is completely different to an alexa, and Im exited that you might be able to match a "trashy" format like an iphone that can be very playful with a more conservative format such as an Alexa35.
Guys anyone facing this selfie bug on the iPhone 15 pro? Whenever I take selfie with iPhone 15 pro, the photo looks too darker compared what u see on the live camera app. I heard many has this issue. Is there any fix? is it software or hardware related issue? Pls helpppp
Hi Waqas, can you please make a comparison using the new Blackmagic Camera app on the iPhone?
this was shot using the black magic app and I’m not really sure if the nuances are gonna be a big enough thing to do a video on
With motion cam app you can shoot 10bit dng raw on Android.
Man we don’t know how we thank you for real 💜.

Hey Qazi ! I've gone through the LUTs that are provided in the 1hr webinar but none of them seem to have that behavior, would you mind giving the name of the LUT ? I'm a bit confused with that :) thx !
The one that says "iphone..." I'll dm you as well.
I didn’t get the download load page for the fee LUTs. 😢 where can I find it?
My biggest issue with the stock camera app is that i can't lock separatly AE from AF. All those AE jumps are really bad and I would always lock exposure for any video but doing this I am stuck with a locked focus too. This is stupid.
I hear you, and I think those are the things that they’re going to focus on next
Thanks 🙏
I was about to sell my Alexa.
This helped 🤝
Amazing insights Wagas, thanks. Would be great to compare (with all the raves about the 'Creator' film) comparing Sony fx3 camera to Arri Alexa :)
Id be interested to know why you didnt use a CST for apple log 🤔
I did
have you ever tried MotionCam Pro to shoot RAW on android? you should do a comparison on it
Never tried it. Sounds interesting.
@@theqazman the app UI is kinda bad but you can get some great results for color grading
There's some phones that work better than others, they might have a list of supported devices somewhere
@@ImThatDude737 VFR motion stutter is a giveaway that it is footage from a phone. Motioncam on a highend android phone like pixel 7 pro is way better than apple offerings because you have cleaner shadows, usb 3.0 transfer speeds(ext recording on nvme drive) , no internal sharpening, CFR ( I dont know if blackmagic app can do CFR on iphone ) and probably open gate recording. On the other hand Motioncam recording may give you frame drops or it might be unreliable. Either way I would never use a phone as a primary video recording device.
Do you know if the iPhone clips were shot at 1450+ ISO in the Blackmagic app? The dynamic range gets significantly better using that ISO, it seems like they have an artificial clip that gets removed when you hit that ISO range. Gerald Undone did a really neat video about it. Either way though, other than the deeper depth of field, you matched them up well enough I would have had no idea cutting back and forth in an actual video!
what is the "native" iso on the phone?
Looking at the footage while impressive I can clearly see the ALEXA image looks more "relaxed". The iPhone image somehow looks "compressed" kind of like what you do with audio when you're trying to bring more volume into an audio track. That's the only way i can describe it.
Since you know HOW to shoot, you don't need shoot on iphone:) For all others there's iphones, sony alphas and other domestic cameras. It's great we have em to learn.
just FYI, the discord link doesn't work, you need to set it to last indefinitely. Thank You!!
That is pretty insane! Now, I don't think a big company will ever pay a production company to film their commercial or film on an iPhone, but it goes to show the technology is there. The cinema cameras are pretty over priced and pulling a some trickery on the consumer.
Hey qaz:man, I have a request? A lot of the movie look how to videos you make, are made on a clip level. How to make one look a like clip , have the same “look” as the movie….
I am asking if you can show how to do a movie look, on a project bases. As in the whole video will look like that look.
The problems you could run into, and what to look for.
Not many people show you how to do this, and not a whole lot out there in regards to people doing it properly.
This is a good request, but please help us Color newbs out! Hopefully others agree.
Btw, this video is crazy good! I love this. Tech has come so far right!
I do. It’s part of my MasterClass because it requires a lot more involved lessons than just a one-off video link in my description, so you should check it out
Thank you for the amazing job. This video makes me think a lot of things. I'm trying to make a music video for some local rock bands and I have only a sony crop body mirroeless camera. (A6400 8bit s-log only ) As a professional artist , would you recommend me buying a new Iphone 15 Pro? Or just keeping sony mirrorless (A6400) camera would be the better choice?
For a pro shoot I'd say go with your Sony. You'll have more control.
@@theqazman I really appreciate your comment. Thank you so much!
Si
The fact that a camera is better in handling, weight to stabilize, quick controls, adaptation, adding accessories, flash, microphones, transmitters, monitors, etc. already makes the camera much better than the cell phone, not to mention the fact that lenses up to 0.95, ultra wide lenses, fisheye, manual focus control and other subjects. The new era has come to separate the wheat from the chaff, amateurs: Iphone
Pros: Camera
Maybe unintentionaly but you just exposed the best way on how to compare cameras😅.
Ps. I love your taste in Music! Where do you get it??
Haha. Thank you. Epidemic Sound
The iPhone 15 is a game changer no doubt! I HONESTLY believe cell phones are the FUTURE of content creation for the average person. (if not ALREADY!)
A few of my favorite RUclipsrs are already using Go Pros and iPhones on their channels! (Rich Rebuilds). Prosumer mirrorless camera makers are going to have a VERY tough road ahead as these phones become more common and robust!
I sense a LARGE increase in iPhone video and photography accessories coming VERY SOON!
Great video! 👍🏾
I 100% agree with you, and that's why we see the decline with Sony as well because of where your content is seen, to the quality you get shooting with modern phones. it’s hard to justify expensive cameras.
Was that ProRes log?
Yep
@@theqazman nice. I was experimenting with the black magic camera app and I was surprising you can shoot 60fps ProRes log without external recorder.
The iphone comparisons works only with wide lenses at high f-values in well-lit environments when you watch on the phone and don't understand noise/detail/sharpening and real bokeh. But unfunnily enough, that is 99% of the people and footage out there. Mediocrity will win I guess. It's like Scorcese vs Marvel.
Here is a random question, I can't remember who uploaded a video where on the thumbnail it showed someone wearing a yellow rain coat and it was about color correction by chance was it you I don't expect you to know what the video is but by chance did you ever upload something like this is and then put on private?
I spent hours trying to find it boi you changed the thumbnail no wonder I couldn't find it and yes I did reply to my own comment because i'm that guy
Haha. All good.
Was it shot with the native camera app or the blackmagic app? I’m wondering if the native app does some kind of computation, even in log, where the blackmagic app doesn’t…
Also according Gerald Undone dynamic range review it looks like the native iso of the iphone is 1250iso…. Still wondering if this is really the truth though 😳
Christoph here: I shot the iPhone for this in the Blackmagic app on about 800 ISO because I felt 1250 is a little too much and I didn’t want to introduce too much noise.
Honestly all iPhones from the past few years look really good in sunlight.
However once you bring them indoors with artificial light even high artificial light they break apart.
Reason I ditched my iPhone for BlackMagic.
Yes thats what I am finding with iPhone while I shoot. No matter what you do, these small sensors are noisy compare to proper cameras. But yes the future seems bright and I guess iPhone 20 will be like a pro camera..!!
True
i wonder what the peak will be for these cameras. if they can figure out how to attach lenses in house natively over the hurdles of sensor size etc that might legit be the end of cinema cameras .
yeah, I feel like the mixture of using AI and sensor size and also the ability to have different lenses will close the gap, and it all will happen at an exponential rate
Waiting for Apple to launch a full frame ILC.
How much is your class in general?
$997 but the link in description contains a one time only yt special discount.
@@theqazman my guy thank you so much
Not the first Smartphone isn't iPhone and Alexa 35 vs iPhone Makes me sick of even thinking 😢. But I'm sure some people will mix just to look cool
good quote " the future is incredibly bright" - is this a punch at the 800 base iso on iphone falling apart ? :))
Haha. Nope but take it how you want.
WTF was that first shot with the a/b?? I legit couldn't tell which camera was the iphone ...
I even forgot which one was which. 😄
Will Camera be replaced by smart phones,
What do you think? Curious.
Never! 👀 While Apple works on creating a better iPhone, Arri will focus on developing another advanced master camera. 😂
By the way... Great contents as always!!!
Who would have imagined that iPhone footage could now stand alongside the king himself, the Alexa camera? 😂 I wonder if any film director will opt for the iPhone 15 Pro Max to shoot an entire feature film. In the past, we've had groundbreaking films like "Tangerine," shot on an iPhone 5, "Unsane" on iPhone 7s, and the more recent "High Flying Bird" on iPhone 8. With the advancements in color science and technology, it's quite feasible to achieve a remarkably high-quality image.
I'm sure it's in the works. This image is for sure prime time ready.
finally waiting for qazi to talk about it

Just wow. I may have to upgrade my 14 pro max to the 15 pro max
Worth it
I don't get it why used 1/1000s shutter speed with backlight shot.
1/120s would have been enough at lowest possible ISO on iphone as ISO 800 is much higher to that.
Moreover ISO value is not same for every device as ADC gain is different in every other sensor module.
Would be nice if you try the Blackmagic camera app on iphone 15 pro max to encode in ProRes 4444 internally.
Also I wish apple gives an option to entirely disable noise reduction, mostly the luma noise as right now baked in NR makes footage soft lacking micro texture details.
look at Gerald Undone's video, he found out ISO 600-800 is where the iPhone has the highest/best dynamic range.
The real question is 'Where will we be in 10, 15 years?'
Only over the last three or four years the iPhone camera has improved considerably; how much of an advantage will Arri, RED, Sony, etc. offer compared to tomorrow's iPhone? The $99k premium, while still worth it now for professional production, is looking to be of less and less value as time passes. The same thing has already happened in the world of audio, even professional producers are mixing 'in-the-box' (using software tools that cost $100 instead of outboard gear that costs a 50x that figure). Hell, even a $300 audio interface is of good enough quality to produce a full professional album.
The gap is closing fast and the pro cameras need to come out of status quo and start innovating again.
Osm ✌✌✌
Wait till this guy finds out that s23 ultra has much higher resolution main camera. and that they shot a movie with it.
Congrats to apple and it's users 10 bit log is really amazing! I've been doing it for a years on my $150 android phone and now I can shot 12bit raw internal!
Good films come from good stories, not good technology.
Just saying.
I'll anwser the question from the thumbnail so that you don't have to waste 15 minutes of your life: no.
I personally think that the gap is so tiny for 99% of people now. Most people watch videos without paying attention to such details. They watch it for the content.
Also, a lot of people watch content on their smartphones so in 99% if not more of the scenarios, the minute difference in pixels quality between the two would not be an issue.
This is extremely good for content creators around the world. People can easily get all the hardware and software they need for shooting cinema quality videos.
It’s kind of like how image generation software democratizes art, IPhone 15 Pro when used with advanced software like Davinci Resolve democratizes video creation.
The only thing that stops someone from making a great film is his skill now.
What a time to be alive!
I share your enthusiasm, and I also agree with everything you said here because the limitation is only in our brains now. Otherwise, it's a level playing field.
Cinema quality? For real?
I'll tell you what looks better than Iphone 15 footage: Android RAW MotionCam footage.

@@theqazman Actually its really not that impressive. The BMPCC 4k came out 5 years ago and cost $1300. Its has been used for 5 years to cut seamlessly in with the Arri family. So the Iphone now is getting close to a 5 year old M43 cameras ability. Who didn't think they wouldn't catch up??
