I love my clovers. I have the 2mm and all the way to 15 mm. Very comfy and well engineered- would highly recommended clovers

Clovers are worth it in my opinion. I love them. They work for me - they shave minutes off of my rows because they are so smooth - I fly through the stitches.
Tulips are nice- but I compared the same size back to back on a project I am currently working on, and I felt just a tad bit more friction with the tulip etimo red hook that I have.
Not much… but noticed it. Went back to my clover ❤

Just started learning to crochet, got myself a Boye - imitation set of hooks that have 0.5 to 1-9 in the solid metal and 2-5 to 6 in the coloured, anodised metal. Then I picked up the 7, 8, 9, 10 that match, separately. I have learnt to crochet on them but find my hands cramp a bit, so I've splashed out on a Clover set. Great to see another Aussie :)

Great that you got the clovers!! They definitely help with the hand cramping!!

I hate the bates bc of how blunt the tips are. I learned on Boye. Like most of us (older gals), they hurt my hands and I can’t use for long. I tried addi knock-offs, bc reviews said they have a swing that makes them faster…idk I couldn’t figure them out. I got cheap ‘ergonomic’ hooks from Amazon but so many had Burris on them that it would snag the yarn and had a lot of drag. I found eBay seller selling the 10pc set for $30 several yrs ago. I started playing w as soon as came in. I was like…omgosh these things are heaven!! Brushed hooks slide through any yarn like butter!!! They are simply heaven! And if you can find at cheaper price a def steal!! I then got the larger plastics, same! Best of all NO SQUEEK from yarn! Then got the steel hooks which are so nice if you’ve ever used the plain steel hooks - def old ones are hand killers! I’ve bought multiple sets! Absolutely love, love, love the ‘hot knife through butter’ feel and speed with which they go through yarn…doesn’t matter the material or project! Can’t recommend them enough!
I’ve had the Denise Tunisian set but we had a house fire and I’ve not seen them since.
I’d like to try the odyssey or the aluminum set bc of my carpel tunnel, thinking the weight would help, but the price…I know they take a lot to make, are inspected by hand, etc…idk just can’t pull trigger on $26-40/hook! But I’m cheap anyway, lol
Edit: the one thing about clover is that they are color coded, so once you become familiar with them you will know size from memory…5mm=blue, 5.5mm=green, 6mm=brown, etc…and the size is stamped into the handle so you don’t lose the sticker and have to pull out the sizing bell (the sizing tool used during Victorian era to give standardized hook sizes as patters were beginning to be shared), to figure out the size hook needed for your project.

I have bought so many brands and different kinds of hooks but always go back to my Susan Bates hooks. For me they are the smoothest and fastest hooks. The only problem is I think age and arthritis gets many of us. The Susan Bates needs to slightly longer with a larger handle. They made a longer one but the handle is not thick enough. The clover hook is missing the added length that is so much more comfortable.

    • @CrochetTutorials11

Oh!! Great comment. Thanks so much for your insight. A lot of people really like the Furls for the handles. Have you tried those hooks?

I love Tulip hooks, I needed a 6 so I brought a clover one.. unfortunately after a few stitches i have to wipe it on my tee shirt to bring the smooth run, so thats really annoying, so waiting for my Tulip one now..I really dont know why the clover gets catchy after a while, it drives me nuts...

It depends. I got a set of clover steels for 35, and they were genuine, I even got a 1pc standard size and it was genuine. You really just have to take the chance. Go to a box store and buy a 1 pc for comparison and then order the hooks. Then if they're not legit you return them
