Yes. Im a new beginner in crochet world. My first hook is in size 5mm. I feel comfortable to do in any project i started. Then i used different size hook afterthat I felt like its made easy and smooth for me even i used smaller hook..
You are one of very few RUclipsrs who holds their hook the same way I do. Two questions: Do you prefer inline or tapered hooks? What do you think about Furls hooks given how you hold your crochet hook?
Great questions! I actually prefer tapered hooks. I wish i could use Furls crochet hooks because they are so pretty. Unfortunately the bulkiness of the handle makes it hard for ME to hold, though I see how it would be more comfortable for a knife holder. 😊🧶❤️
I use Bates hooks. I have very small hands, so the smaller size is preferable for me. The inline heads help me grab the yarn more easily, which is a plus with my MS. I had a few issues early on with splitting but I adjusted my hold and have little problem now. I even tracked down inline steel hooks second hand for lace crochet. They are not currently produced (Bates steel hooks are tapered and have been for many years).
Hi Tiffany Hansen right now I am working on my cottage core mosaic blanket and granny squares blanket and butterfly mosaic blanket and I love your channel and your videos and if you keep making videos I will keep watching them and what is your favorite crochet project to work on right now and favorite types of yarn to used when crocheting and keep up the great work on your RUclips channel and keep up the great work on your crochet projects
Thanks Tiffany, That was interesting and good information. I will have to try some different hooks out. I can't wait to watch your other informational videos. Thank you. Mary
My preferred hook is an Inline Bates Silvalume. I have been making quite a few shawls with Lion Brand Shawl in a Ball lately. For this yarn I much prefer a Tapered Throat hook. It is my experience that even if I love one or the other types of hooks, the yarn will very often lead you away from what I think I love to the appropriate hook for the yarn.
Gauge, gauge, gauge. For the given yarn, adjust the hook, and pick the correct density for what you're making. Light & Airy, or Dense & Cardboardy. Enjoy!!!
I see this is an older video so maybe boye didnt have ergonomic a couple years ago. But they do now i just bought a set today and so far im enjoying them. I also have the other kind which was my first set of hooks ive ever bought. Definitely prefer the ergonomic though.
I bought mine from the Etsy shop. However, I find I prefer my Clover Amours--have tried Prym and for some yarns they are quite nice with their long shanks and ergonomic shape, also have one Furls Streamline resin and again, for some yarns but I seem to go back to the Clovers.
My mom used Boye. I use Bates. Play around, try them all, and keep on hooking!

You mentioned Susan Bates ergonomic hooks, where can you buy them? I've never seen them and can't find them by googling.
