Everyone always asks "Is that a JoJo reference"?! But no one ever thinks to inquire "Is that a Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Super S: Various Emotion reference"?
This is Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S: Jougai Rantou!? Shuyaku Soudatsusen released for the Super Famicom on December 16, 1994!! Various Emotions is the Saturn game. Don’t play that one.
Thanks Desk. Us Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S: Jougai Rantou!? Shuyaku Soudatsusen released for the Super Famicom on December 16, 1994 fans have been saying this for years.
I quoted the tweet about this with "I've been saying for 10 years that Sailor Moon S is one of the most lowkey influential fighting games of all time" and then clicked the video to see the title. Minds think alike, huh?
I know this is mostly a joke, but if you're gonna do any more like this, obscure game is influential, you should do Asuka 120% Was the first fighter to have clashes and was one of the first with down down inputs It was incredibly influential for anime fighters like melty blood and guilty gear French bread actually wouldn't be as they are without Asuka existing as their first few fighters queen of heart was based on the gameplay of Asuka 120% even making a character have Asuka's moveset and now the creator of Asuka 120%, Masatoshi Imaizumi, is a programmer on Under Night 2, coming full circle Even this game here, Sailor Moon S, shares the aspect of no forward dash but does have a backdash, exactly like asuka 120% which came out 9 months prior
Some of these are stretches. For instance, you could say that the Mars slap really originated from Yuri of AoF fame. I'm fairly certain that she had it when she debuted on AoF2.
1:39 'Love me tender' exists since Final Fight (1989) The reference to this attack is Ken's Axe Kick 'Ryusenkyaku' from CvS (2000) also appearing as his 2nd V-Skill in SFV 1:54 and the direct reference here, is C. Viper's EX 'Thunder Knuckle'
This video is incredible. The amount of search with every move and showing us right away instead of unnecessary information. Amazing video and I'm glad people still loves Sailor Moon games
Is this the Sailor Moon fighter that was developed by Arc System Works? The very first fighter the developers ever made? With nearly 30 years of history, Sailor Moon have shaped many alternate universes with different forms of media. It would be great if Arc System Works were given a chance to make a modern Sailor Moon fighter that celebrates the different takes and stories the girls have been through, just like they did with Dragonball FighterZ. With a roster that spans the manga, the OG anime, the different games (like Another Story with the original antagonists together with new ones), the live action PGSM, the musicals, and more. Yes, even the proto Senshi and an anime take of the Toon Makers Sailor Moon. I'm sure that the team would make a quality game given the chance. PS There better be a fan of VTubers among the development team, because if we don't get Sailor Iron Mouse with an Ironmouse color palette, a riot will be started.
I'd have liked a little mention on SNK series, l mean, that SJ punch was just a burn knuckle from Terry Bogard, and the hip attack is just Yuri Sakasaki's enyoku.
Yeah, I don't think many of those moves actually have origins in SMS. The characters themselves don't fight like that, so inspiration would have to be drawn from elsewhere.
@@Shade84Oh no, they didn't originate in that game (got my doubts in Mercury's tornado though), that's the joke of the video. But not only he didn't use any SNK reference, he intentionaly avoided them, it seems he have a problem with those.
@@Shade84 I think he just thinks ill of KoF players because a couple of them left mean/offensive comments and desk just couldn't handle it. So his way to avoid conflict is just to almost never include KoF content in his channel.
@@BiohazardScott Dude, the title mentions Street Fighter specifically, and while MVC3 isn't a Street Fighter game, it was at least made by Capcom. Putting SNK games in the video wouldn't make much sense.
Sorry, but Sailor Mars move is from Yuri Sakazaki in Art of Fighting 2 released in February 3, 1994 while Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S: Jougai Rantou!? Shuyaku Soudatsusen released December 16, 1994. Most likely somebody of Arc System Works in that time was a AOF2 fan.
That sailor moon game is so underrated that it's actually sad; most "gamer youtubers" just repeat the same 5 games over and over, so kudos to the guy who made this video
Dee Jay's punish counter version of his LVL 1 super art opens doors of many interesting combos and tech, I love to see what you do with it! Anyway, that's just some suggestions of mine.
I’m reminded of how all the ideas for space flight were thought up in the 60’s and 70’s and everything since has been just about making it happen. I really want someone to do one of these for Captain Falcon compared to Jin Saotome.
We need you ON camera. Only thing this channel is missing. Even a quick intro instead of a text explanation on some things would be awesome we got to get your personality out here your quality is too good
There are only so many ways to hit someone, so some of these are probably coincidences. However, I like to believe that some members of the Street Fighter 6 team are secret fans of the old Sailor Moon fighting games.
My favorite thing about this video is people in the comments arguing that many of these are AKSHUALLY Art of Fighting references when in reality they're just normal ass pro-wrestling spots that have been around for decades before fighting games even existed and were especially popular in the 80s & early 90s explosively popular japanese joshi pro wrestling scene, so no surprise that basically every game that had a girl in it had her doing stuff like hip attacks and the triple slap spot.
It's so funny how a lot of Poison's attacks were taken from Sailor Mars/Rei when she and Rei act quite a bit alike. Poison, out of all Street Fighter female characters, embodies the Red Magical Girl archetype best (with Sakura and Mika probably embodying the Pink Magical Girl and White Magical Girl tropes pretty well respectively).
Poison had already jump kick, and slap in FF, and slap inspired by Yuri from AOF and KOF. Sailor Mars kick similar Kim Kaphwan's Cress Moon Kick. Sailor Uranus more emulates Akuma's Ashura Senku but more aggressive as offensive and defensive, without consume energy and no has recovery; and result become deadly tool. Maybe or not SF6 inspired it into the mechanical game, but Drive Rush is more likely to SF IV focus cancel combo; and accidently as to be considred same mechanic of Sailor Uranus. R.Mika's butt attack possible from Yuri form AOF and KOF. And rest of it possible has been inspired to characters of SF6 but it is not a fair if that calling SF6 unoriginal, so many fighters have similarity moves like Kazuya, and Mishima have a dragon punch, Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyakuu, but there's no truly problem. Or KOF so many similar characters from SF. So be fair if there similarity that's no mean as plagiarism.
a lot of street fighter games use recycled old moves, like some of blanka's new moves are from that wolf in Vampire savior. My favorite tho is Abel's Ultra1, which is Captain America's final justice in Marvel.. but I didnt know they are also inspired from other devs, this is cool
I'm pretty sure you've had a video where you've done a lot of links using Makoto's Hayate Cancels in SF4. Please share if you can!! (I couldn't find it)
I think Art of Fighting 2 might have Sailor Moon beaten on that slap move at 1:10. Yuri has a very similar move in that game, and that game came out 10 months before Sailor Moon.
Thanks for the content and really make someone wants to checkout this game, but I would argue that this is not influencing much as other games that made the fighting games different like samurai shodown or fatal fury
Apparently, yesterday was the 32nd anniversary of the original anime series airing in Japan. Did you put out this video as a tribute or was it purely coincidental???
