@7:36 if only Raul Julia (actor who played M. Bison in the Street Fighter Movie) really came back to life like in the final boss scene in the video game... 😢
I faced Shin Bison many times in alpha 3 to the point i know all of his moves and how the ai works, the best example is this 1:20. Whenever Bison perform head press, he will immediately use Final Psycho Crusher. Another one is that whenever he crouches, he'll perform a Psycho shot (fireball) and if it hits, he will combo to either Final Psycho Crusher or Double Knee Press. The most common thing he do is that classic combo, crouch medium kick + Double Knee Press
What I do is be super defensive until he does head press in final psycho crusher. Only punish when it's absolutely safe. Usually when he's crouching for a psycho ball I jump heavy kick into a combo. I haven't lost to him in an arcade run since then
I don't know about underrated, the first two games were received relatively well, the second one so much so that it saw a re-release and second print run, undervalued now maybe, overlooked for sure.

i am a causal sf player and shin bison in alpha 3 is literally my worst nightmare oh and him reading inputs really makes me angry, he punishes you with his super for _whiffing a light normal_ once he gets his meter, you kinda have to play super defensive until he gets impatient and "wastes" while you are blocking (which still does a good chunk of chip damage lol) edit: my point is that shin bison in alpha 3 feels so much harder than the other arcade bosses on medium difficulties (with the exception of sf2, I absolutely suck at all variations of sf2 and could never beat bison without save states there And I have never gotten to Gill in sf3 because I suck)
It's more infuriating when he uses the imput right after you start up a move or have the advantage only to snatch victory away with his ultimate psycho crusher.
You can bait him to use his super by jump kicking backwards as well. If he lands in a corner after you block the super, you can punish him for it. You can jump over his fireball and punish him as well, it does run the risk of not blocking in time for the super.
Why not full screen psycho crusher lol can it be countered? I did kick bison to win with a dee jay counter to the regular psycho crusher in ultra street fighter 2.
I always wondered what was the criteria in EX2 in order to fight Shin Bison. It just randomly happened to me, and I was like: "holy sh*t, It's White Bison"
Even though he is not the hardest boss I ever faced, he's the hardest Capcom boss for sure. Fun fact: in the console versions (at least the PSP version) of Street Fighter alpha 3 you can continue if you lose against Shin Bison, but the catch that his AI is much harder than the arcade version, so yeah you will feel his Psycho power when he destroys you.
Ah. The music brings back such pleasant memories. Nice to be reminded once again how well the soundtrack of _Street Fighter EX_ still holds up beyond the songs I already have on my phone. Fond memories of the _EX_ series aside, however, the Shin Bison of that series is *such* bullshit that he's basically one of the worst "SNK Boss" boss characters Capcom has ever made. I have literally never managed to beat him compared to the cake walk that is _SFA3_ Shin Bison's who more obviously reads your inputs. Those Psycho Cannon supers coupled with infinite meter usually ended up just chipping me to death even when I did well. Seeing everything he can do with them now makes me feel better about those losses, so thanks, Desk.
Alpha 3 Shin Bison can be a cheap input reading bastard alright, but over the years he's become rather predictable and usually telegraphs when he's about to do his super. He also spends a lot of time crouching to fire off a psycho shot lol
I didn't realize losing against Shin Bison in Alpha 3 meant you couldn't continue. I only ever played in save states, and today on the plane I said "ok, you know what, I'm going to beat the arcade mode as Cammy, no save states" and got to the final boss... only to see all my hard work crumble There exists a "skip to final boss" cheat code for a reason. Light Punch + Medium Kick + Heavy Punch + Start when you select your ISM brings you right there. That's how I got to keep retrying my go at Bison.
I remember doing the world tour challenges on street fighter alpha 3. Fighting Shin Bison was so BS. Getting anti air'd, whiff punished, and "hard read" by that super still scars me to this day 😂
@@thelastheraldofmarvelcomic1981 I didn't say 2, obviously. Alpha and afterwards, that's when bison became the short stocky version. Also Sagat became alot bigger than his skinny sf2 counterpart
Super Bison in SFtM is only fought in the secret tag-team mode. He can use his special moves in the air, his jumping heavy kick is a slide, Psycho Crusher knocks down, and his specials require less charge time than regular Bison (as shown if you use cheats to play as him). Using his light High Knee Press (negative edge Double Knee Press) in the air causes him to slide forward indefinitely, leaving him stuck in that state until hit out of it.

1:45 I've played Alpha 3 enough time to know that Bison ALWAYS does Psycho Crusher immediately after that fake stomp into Palm Attack, try it, play against Bison and just keep on guarding the whole time, notice how after that Palm Strike a Psycho Crusher follows
For you, the day you saw this Shin Bison video by desk was the most important day in your life. But for me… It was Tuesday (and it is in my timezone today actually haha).
Last night, I had a dream where I was at a wrestling event where Alpha Dictator just came down the catwalk, and I grabbed his cape, punched him in the back, then proceeded to have a fight with him, as my normal ass self. Despite me playing a lot of SFV the last few days, I'm quite certain I only had that dream because of watching this video. Anyway, keep up the great work. Its really inspiring (especially in my dreams, I guess).
Was heart broken the 1st time i lost to shin bison & learned that you had to start from the beginning 😪 that man was op af lol rightfully so thats what made him a unique boss tho.
The trick to Street Fighter Alpha 3 Shin Bison is that if you are about to die to him the 2nd player challenges you and you don't get the bad ending... Kinda hard to pull off reliably but sometimes you know he read one too many early inputs and need that full lifebar and screw going through all of the arcade mode again.
Great documentary for all the iterations of boss Bisons! (and the effort to make them playable!) Can you also explain how Bison2 works for EX3? He is the playable version of EX2 Shin Bison but in EX3? And will you include the "Ghost Bison" in SFV Extra Battle too?
imho sure im hearing the SF EX Shin Bison theme and its great in its own right but his Alpha/Zero 3 Theme is far more Menacing and fitting for a darn good reason
Bison. Shin Akuma can be beaten within reason. Sure he has two Zanku Hadoukens, a full distance Ashura Senkuu and Raging Demon but he's beatable and he never feels cheap Bison on the other hand on the other hand. His normals have extended range, does more damage and of course his Psycho Crusher not only does tons of damage, blocked or not, but it's _unavoidable and uninterruptible_ . You absolutely *will* take damage when he does this and the only way to avoid it is with something that gives you invincibility frames. The fact that he literally has his own unique Super gauge/-ism just piles on to how ridiculous he is. Even Shin Akuma plays by the rules. Not Shin Bison
Gameplay wise, can be argued. Canon wise, it's Bison. He trascended mortality, he can revive himself thanks to the Psycho Power. The alpha 3 one is the strongest, while the SF2 is the weakest. Gouki/Akuma killed him with a Shun Goku Satsu, but even still he didn't die.
@@kaihedgie1747 if anything, its possible to avoid getting damaged by that super psycho crusher, with normal Akuma, by doing one well timed (long) ashura senku (you need to be already moving by the time bison lands) but for that, you need to know when he warns about using it, like when Bison decides to jump back a little and doing his weird punch there before landing, without regards if its aiming at you or not but to frame that moment, you need fight him... a lot, to the point that you start understanding its quirks, like shin akuma in alpha 1, which can be tricked into using hadouken at certain distance when you use tatsumaki zankukyaku, which allows you to defeat him just by timing that move and distance at the right moment, over and over
Ex3 was ahead of its time. There was a mode where you could unlock different moves for characters. I forgot what it was called but you had to do some challenges to unlock them.
Not gonna lie, the aesthetics of SFEX3's twin psycho cannon look really damn cool. I never got to saw Shin Bison in that since I was never good enough at the game.
Also just wanted to point out a few extras: The scissor kick super from the EX series was only ever seen again in CvS series (And I think also CFE as well). Also looking at the evolution of his projectiles the fireball super was also in the Marvel/X-Men Vs series also. Its a shame Bison didn't retain his boss status in more games including SF5 and he probably won't be in SF6, despite being Street Fighter's version of Orochimaru lol
Hi desk, great video! Regarding shin Bison from zero 3, there are some instances where he is more prone to throw the final psycho crusher : after the air stomp / sky dive, after a teleport, or after crouching for some time. About ex2's shin bison, from what I remember by playing ex 2 plus on PS1, there are conditions to meet in order to fight him (if I'm not mistaken, you can't lose a battle, and fighting either Kairi or shadow Geist beforehand also increases the chances of fighting shin bison). And as Guile once said in the SF US cartoon :"BIIISOOOOONNNNN!!!"
"If you are defeated by Shin Bison in Arcade Mode, you are not given a chance to continue." Unless you play the console versions, in which case the only instance this can apply is if you fight him in Final Battle mode. Also, the fact that you had Sakura survive the Ultimate Psycho Crusher is truly based.
A Bison video that's posted on a Tuesday(at least in my timezone).... Desk you clever madman. Also I didn't know Raul Julia had a second form 😲. I hope in the next video it's gonna be about CVS2's Grooves and the games they more or less are akin to.
1:47 This specific instance, Shin Bison isn't reading your moves. If he has full meter, when he does the devil's reverse, he always does super immediately afterwards. I usually play slow to get this situation to happen, preferably with my back to the corner. After he burns his meter, you get a free counter hit when he teleports back on the screen and you can play more aggressively at this point since he doesn't have meter.
SFA3's Shin Bison also has scripted teleports. He will not let you combo him for very long, he'll either react with an instant teleport or the insta-crusher.
The A.I. for that psycho crusher is actually quite stupid and predictable tbh. He will virtually always do it after the dive attack. If you don't jump in and throw out attacks it's quite easy to avoid.
Even though you only have one chance against Shin Bison in AC SFA3, at least you only need to reach him to get a staff roll. But you need to win if you want to get the endings of everyone else who is not him or Ryu!
Thanks for the excellent work as usual Desk. Watching the evil that is Shin Bison in A3 gave me Vietnam flashbacks. If you're looking for a game that's niche, check out Dual Blades/ Slashers which was once for the GBA, it's really unique and has many interesting exploits.
When I faced Shin Bison in Alpha 3 Max, I was struggling really bad a first but I noticed that there are times that he would be crouching for a few seconds and I realized he won’t block your attacks there so I assumed he was like charging for a special attack but it was his most vulnerable part and its the perfect time to attack and also, there’s also a pattern on when he’ll pull off the super psycho crusher, usually he does it after doing a long hop/jump from a long distance.
In SFA3, he'll always do the Psycho Crusher after a whiffed Devil Reverse. That one wasn't input reading, it's a telegraphed move. Now, doing it while walking forward against Guile, that's some SF2 AI bullshit right there.

but to frame that moment, you need fight him... a lot, to the point that you start understanding its quirks, like shin akuma in alpha 1, which can be tricked into using hadouken at certain distance when you use tatsumaki zankukyaku, which allows you to defeat him just by timing that move and distance at the right moment, over and over
Ex3 was ahead of its time. There was a mode where you could unlock different moves for characters. I forgot what it was called but you had to do some challenges to unlock them.
Street Fighter EX3 was far from the first to do this
4:26 Thank god the CPU being generous with their super, at least.
I loved EX2, I think it's sad that it doesn't get much recognition, it was a great game, a lot of fun, interesting characters!
Not gonna lie, the aesthetics of SFEX3's twin psycho cannon look really damn cool. I never got to saw Shin Bison in that since I was never good enough at the game.
The virgin optimal punish, vs the Chad full screen super.
Bison’s laugh during his scissor kick in Ex + always makes me laugh. “Hoohaha…”
@ 2:17 - Dan thought he could block a Shin Psycho Crusher with a self Predator hand shake
Great showcase
Those EX3 combos were SPICY
Also just wanted to point out a few extras:
The scissor kick super from the EX series was only ever seen again in CvS series (And I think also CFE as well).
Also looking at the evolution of his projectiles the fireball super was also in the Marvel/X-Men Vs series also.
Its a shame Bison didn't retain his boss status in more games including SF5 and he probably won't be in SF6, despite being Street Fighter's version of Orochimaru lol
I think Bison constant revival was before Naruto. Also KOF had Orochi as a god before Naruto, he revives and reincarnates too.
Desk I would love to see a vlog video from you one day bro or a video of how you got into fighting games.
Charlie so chad he doesn’t need an oxygen mask to fly a fighter jet lol
Love seeing the treatment my man desk putting on EX series currently.
"If you are defeated by Shin Bison in Arcade Mode, you are not given a chance to continue."
Unless you play the console versions, in which case the only instance this can apply is if you fight him in Final Battle mode.
Also, the fact that you had Sakura survive the Ultimate Psycho Crusher is truly based.
00:40 that transition from A3 with A2's Z. 1 million hours in MS Paint.
Shin Bison aka Bison 2 aka White Bison... is a fucking nightmare! He needs to come back as a secret boss
The A.I. for that psycho crusher is actually quite stupid and predictable tbh. He will virtually always do it after the dive attack. If you don't jump in and throw out attacks it's quite easy to avoid.
Even though you only have one chance against Shin Bison in AC SFA3, at least you only need to reach him to get a staff roll. But you need to win if you want to get the endings of everyone else who is not him or Ryu!
that 50% psycho crusher hurt me as a kid
love these kinds of videos
Love your work desk!
Love the effort you put in every video! I wanted to ask, how familiar are you with Skullgirls 2nd Encore?
4:26 EX2 biso super cancelling into orb to keep the juggle going is so swagged out
When I faced Shin Bison in Alpha 3 Max, I was struggling really bad a first but I noticed that there are times that he would be crouching for a few seconds and I realized he won’t block your attacks there so I assumed he was like charging for a special attack but it was his most vulnerable part and its the perfect time to attack and also, there’s also a pattern on when he’ll pull off the super psycho crusher, usually he does it after doing a long hop/jump from a long distance.
In SFA3, he'll always do the Psycho Crusher after a whiffed Devil Reverse. That one wasn't input reading, it's a telegraphed move. Now, doing it while walking forward against Guile, that's some SF2 AI bullshit right there.
Shin Bison in the movie? I dont believe! Nice!
