      @@FWTE1969I insured 5 cars in my collection and they base the rate off the cars values. They don’t care at all how much the cars make for power. It’s all about replacement value. Now these are limited use policies and not daily driven cars but I recently got a quote on a new Huracan EVO and the rate wasn’t outrageous at all either with no mileage restrictions at all. I think the whole claim about insurance rates and HP was from a bygone era in the 1960’s and possibly 70’s.

    Just to be clear - it doesn't matter what gear your in when you calculate horsepower. If your in a lower gear - you get more torque, but less rpm. The equation is HP = Torque x rpm /5250. What 1:1 gives you is less LOSS in the transmission because the trans is more efficient in 1:1 (and converter locked!)

    • @Concern_Citizen

      I was a bit surprise when I heard the dyno operator said what he said. Also, I find, typically, that dynojets offer higher HP numbers than Mustang dynos.

    • @branchtana315
      @branchtana315 Год назад +3

      @@Concern_Citizen Absolutely. Mustang dynos calculate by far the lowest HP output of all the mass produced dynos available. I've seen many instances where there was a 10%+ difference between a Mustang and a Dynojet.

    • @KZ-se4ik
      @KZ-se4ik Год назад +5

      Actually there is pretty much no difference in transmission losses between gears over the range of ratios most cars use. The myth that 1:1 is better came from older manual transmissions where the 1:1 gear wasn't a gear at all. A sleeve simply connected the input and output shafts in that "gear". Thus there were no gear mesh losses. But when you have teeth meshing, whether its in a 1:1, 1.3:1 or 0.8:1 gear the losses are pretty much the same. The difference in measured output in different gears often comes from the inertial loss changes in the driveline due to differing acceleration rates.

    • @Concern_Citizen
      @Concern_Citizen Год назад +1

      @@KZ-se4ik - You said a lot... it's an age-old argument. These were arguments we had in my mechanical engineering classes back in the mid-to-late 70s.
      I'll attempt to go through your explanation... first, I'm not sure what you mean by "transmission losses between gears over the range of ratios...” It’s a matter of physics that rotational inertia consumes energy that will produce measured differences. As it relates to automobile’s gear ratio impact on horsepower loss, it’s all relative. As horsepower is the measurement of work over time, and gear ratios affect the speed of the output, there obviously would be differences measured.
      However, there are other factors that would affect the results. How impactful are those differences, I guess, depends on the message. But I don’t think it’s safe to say there no difference in measured power loss (I’m assuming your term “transmission losses” equal power loss) between or across gears.
      I’ll agree, relatively speaking, the measured differences may be minimal, but no non-existent. Just my two cents.
      Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

    • @BryantStilwell
      @BryantStilwell 11 месяцев назад +2

      I've tested different gear pulls on a few vehicles on my own MD-250 mustang dyno. Any time I'm not in direct drive, I lose power. This is with inputting the correct parameters and testing ratios. Automatics have more moving parts/drag when you are not in direct drive, just as a manual is. In my big block cuda with a 727, its a hefty difference between a 2nd gear and 3rd gear pull, even with changing all the appropriate ratios so that the software calculates correctly. On a separate example, tires, we had a 60whp difference on a 500" big block cuda going from 10psi in his drag radials to 25psi. Any drag or load whatsoever will effect your results. Having more parts moving in the transmission is no exception.

    Nice numbers. Remember X that there are more folks who are going to talk bad about the 170. They have their reasons. Not good reasons but their reasons. I like the fact that this is the ultimate Muscle Car and it does not pretend to be anything different. This is in a better category than my 70 GTX 440-6. It was just one of the street bruisers that stalked the streets in the 70s. Along with the 426 Hemi, 454 LS6, 427 Ford and a host of 455s . But this Demon 170 stands alone. Will it be beaten on the strip? Sure. But that’s always a drivers race to win or lose. Thanks for the video and before the haters come in and correct me on anything. Read carefully what I said. Emphasis on Muscle Car. Not sports car or sedan or all wheel drive electric machines. Just plain old all American Muscle Car.

    What was your oil pressure on your third pull? When very hot, what is your oil pressure at idle? Did Dodge put like a rev limiter in sixth gear or a governor? Love the channel.

    Incredible! Maybe this is outdated information, but I'd always heard for autos it was ~18% loss (and for manuals ~13% loss), even taking the lowest number measured there (858.2, which is clearly lower than achievable), that puts it at 858.2/(1 - 0.18) = ~1,047 RWHP. For the higher measured number (885.6), we get ~1080 RWHP, and for the extrapolated number (~896), that would be ~1093 RWHP. Fantastic numbers, regardless of which you choose. (BTW, if we assume only 15% loss, then the numbers are 1,010 RWHP, 1,042 RWHP, and 1,054 RWHP, respectively...still incredible!)

    • @sstevocamaro
      @sstevocamaro Год назад +3

    • @PitManenuver

      It’s around 12% for a hellcat. Most stock put down right at 620whp and are rated at 707 crank from the factory.
      Same drivetrain loss in this would equal 903 or within 1% of the 896 you mentioned. So I’d say the 1025 is pretty dead on.

    • @PitManenuver
      @PitManenuver Год назад +2

    • @RacerX9
      @RacerX9  Год назад +8

      I'm not sure.. This one you don't have to swap the PCM so I did think that was strange. 6th gear is a really long pull so there was some sort of fail safe built into the tune and the computer cut it short for some reason

    • @S8ER
      @S8ER Год назад +3

      @@RacerX9 did you have it in drag racing mode or anything? I think you’re right and there is some kind of protection mechanism. Would be interested in hearing from Dodge on that one. I’ve seen vehicles in the past that needed to be in a special mode to Dyno so it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see it on something like this. 🤔

    It's dropping off in 6th, because like the original Demon, they are sold with street legal drag radials, which have l lower top speed rating. It's a liability issue. I knew it had to make more crank power. I increased the boost on my cat to 14psi, the E85 conversion, 850rwhp. Less parasitic loss, I have the tremec. Fun AF to drive

      I have to dyno newer mustangs in 5th gear instead of 7th because of this sort of thing as well. They soft limit at 140MPH, which is in the 6200-6500 range in 7th, rather than getting up to the 8k that they love.

    Can you make a detailed video on the differences between a regular hellcat and the demon 170? Like what exactly is done to make it an 8.9 car because I don’t see 900rwhp hellcats and red eyes running into the 8s. I assume it’s suspension but what exactly is different for those wanting to upgrade their hellcats and red eyes

    • @RacerX9
      @RacerX9  Год назад

      The Demon has a lot more going on than a redeye does. Suspension .. drivetrain .. advanced trans brake .. it’s lighter than a redeye .. wheel setup .. bigger blower which produces less heat .. better chiller .. bigger inter cooler .. torque reserve is higher
