I'm literally not pregnant, not trying to be pregnant, never been pregnant etc and yet I am GLUED to every video you do about birth/motherhood/etc
That’s exactly how I was for a couple of years! I couldn’t stop myself from watching videos like this even though hubby and I weren’t ready yet for babies. Glad I’m not the only one lol but now we’re expecting our first in a month and hopefully it’ll go as smoothly as hers since I, too, am going the natural/unmedicated route with a midwife. I feel like all of these videos have truly helped me prepare my mind... I mean also books similar to this have too so if you want to be a mama one day you already have a heads start!
@@allisonspadaro8572 omg congratulations!! So exciting
@@allisonspadaro8572 I just know you'll be a great mom! That baby is LOVED. :)
Samee
@@allisonspadaro8572 Congratulations!! Same, I even made a registery and watched anything baby. Hospital bag/birth/birth plan/newborn needs/0-12 needs everything. And 5 years we pop pregnant 🥰 Sorta prepared 🤣 Sorta.
I also chose a midwife versus an OB because the OBs didn’t feel personal. It just felt like they were trying to keep their schedule. My midwife was the best and I still think about how awesome and thankful I was to have her.
Could you do a "10 things you should know about before becoming a mother and/or pregnant" video?
Thats actually on my to film list! I've been putting together a few points each day when they pop up :)
This comment isn’t particularly for the message of this video, but just for your channel as a whole. I just want to say that I think you are such a great role model for young women today. Your body positivity, and the mindful way you take care of yourself and your family is wonderful to see and so inspiring. ♥️👏
This comment just made my day! Thank you so much for the kind words and support🤍
I am pleased to gaining useful experience shared by you. I am a Pakistani Muslim and very conscious about why today, s girl are not getting normal birth. Today Out of hundred only one mom is getting normal birth in my country and I am not feeling well about that. I want to educate to do much about elivating such situation. Thank you for participating.
Just had my baby girl two weeks ago at a birth place unmedicated as well!! Feel so empowered that I did it and it has been the best experience ever in my life!! Reading Mama Natural book was so helpful for me ❤️
Wow, congratulations!
Back in 1981, I had my first daughter. I had a loving husband, a great medical team but absolutely no knowledge of meds or ways to alleviate pain - it was all me and my darling Dana who was birthed unmedicated. Here we are in the 21st century and there are so many more opportunities for you young mama’s to make some decisions that we didn’t have in the olden days. Love your videos Nikole - you put a lot of great information out there for those ladies who need it. ❤️
I literally cried watching this very intimate birth video. You are so strong and your partner is very supportive. I hope mine is as fast as yours! Can’t wait to meet my baby girl too I know I’m going to cry!
Your birth vlog gave me confidence and fears both at the same may every mother in labour gets confidence, strength and patience as you did throughout the labour❤️ I’m in 33rd week and the final delivery date is still a matter of worry and scares me but i hope and pray that things go well for me & for all in labour😍🥰
I love how open and honest you are! Very helpful💙
I love these videos! I’m not pregnant but hopefully in the near future. It’s so refreshing to hear your experience and the alternatives! 😃
Love your videos and the fact that you are a fellow Canadian. It's nice watching this because our healthcare system is so different from America. You made me way more confident in my choice to go with a midwife vs. doctor!
OMG! I had exactly the same experience meeting my OB here in Belgium for the first time. Currently 29weeks along with baby #1 and also decided to go with independent midwives rather. So far it has been a great experience getting to know them and looking forward to having baby with friendly, supportive people around me
Hi Nikole. I am very grateful for your channel. Im not pregnant yet but I have been watching all your videos to prepare myself and I have learnt sooooooo much from you! Thank you so much for all your knowledge. My goal is to have a more holistic / natural pregnancy with very minimal / no intervention. Im sure you are having such a positive amazing impact for mothers and mothers-to-be :) ❤❤❤You are awesome woman and an amazing Mama! :)
Loved the video! You shared with us some good points and useful information, thank you! And yes, I did noticed that since I announced that I am pregnant (18 weeks now), most of the mothers around me tend to project their past fears and crazy stories on me, and honestly I can't understand why do they do this. Like, I would never do such a thing, damn it. Share good vibes, like you do! I always feel so relaxed when I watch your videos, so thank you again for sharing with us so openly!
Yay! I’m due July 4th with my son baby Eros! I love when you talk birth! ❤️🥰
I had the same first experience with an OBGYN. She was awful! I felt so brushed off, and she actually smerked when I told her I wanted an un medicated birth. I immediately sought out midwives, and it was so much better!
I have chosen OB's with both pregnancies and I love that its a quick appointment! This is my second high risk pregnancy and I have so so many other appointments to attend on the same days with other doctors and specialists
Thank you for mentioning that second and third trimester you were able to work out again ! I've been so worried as I work out daily and right now all I've wanted to do is lay on the couch
Praying that everyone falls asleep quickly and has a peaceful sleep. Hope you all wake up happy and well rested 😘👍😘👍
Thank you so much for sharing all of these tips! I have already completed most of the courses offered at my hospital and a lot of what you have shared overlaps with the information in class.
The only one that is completely brand new and I would like more information about is doing most of your labor at home.
As a first timer, that sounds like something that would require someone knowledgeable by my side. If you have additional tips about this, please let me know.
I will appreciate it greatly! Just as I do your video! ❤️
I was just looking through your old videos to find more info on your birth story! Great timing!
😉🙌🏻
My 2 midwives during labour & delivery were AMAZING!!!!
my husband and i just found out today that we are pregnant! im on my third video from you and i have a lot more peace lol 💖
I’m doing a home birth with a midwife for our first baby! Very informative video ❤️ thank you!
This was so informative! Thank you!! ❤
Feeling so prepared after watching and realizing I’m already doing almost everything in this video
Just entering my 2nd trimester, l do so much research (loved how you phrased “treated my pregnancy like a job” haha) and your video still helped out so much :) cheers mama
Haha legit laughed at the swimming motion in the beginning! I'm due in April so perfect timing for this video! Xo
Same🥰
Congrats mama! Glad to have given your growing belly a little laugh ;)
Due in April!
@@HealthNutNutrition hehe thank you so much! 🥰💕
Hope you and baby are doing well!
I have no business watching this whatsoever😂but I found this video so good and educational! I love your advice and mannerisms.
I can’t even do a bikini wax natural and unmedicated!! Hats off to you, woman! :)
Also, good call following your hunch and not staying with Dr. #1 if you weren’t comfortable. I follow this rule.
Love this! I am due in May and hoping for an unmedicated vaginal birth. Thank you for sharing your story! 💝
Same!! ❤️
You got this mama!!!!! 😍👏🏽
You got this Mama! You're going to rock your birth!
Hey from Australia 👋🇦🇺 This video was so informative! Thanks for sharing your experience, it is so inspiring and now I have some prepping tips. I'm currently 25 weeks 🙂 Keep up the good work ☺️
Congrats, Mama! I'm so happy you've been finding these videos helpful😊
Hi! I'm 8-months pregnant and just found your channel. Wanted to say I love your videos so much!! It's crazy how similar our pregnancy experiences have been; from the OB experience and switching to a midwife, prenatal depression, to pretty much everything else. Hopinggg that my birth experience is also similar haha but that's just wishful thinking. Anyway, really enjoy these vids and appreciate you sharing!
How was your birth experience?
@@meeymee4799 Hey! It wass good all-in-all, but a lot of unexpected things happened. which I guess is normal for birth. I'm very glad I did hypnobirthing and pereneal massage. I was able to stay calm and clear headed the entire time (no matter how crazy contractions got) and I didn't tear at all because of the massage.
Loved my second midwife (my first one I wouldn’t repeat, she was just too new out of university!!) but I was supported at the hospital by doctors and nurses and my midwife. It was a terrible first birth and a great second one. If you have an uncomplicated pregnancy in Canada, I highly suggest midwifery care!
Hi Nicole! Could you please share what mediation app you’ve been using before pregnancy? Because you mentioned you’ve been meditating for years. Could you share the resources you’ve been using for that ?
I’m living for your birth and baby videos ❤️ I found out a couple days ago that I was pregnant and I’m taking notes 📝 😂💗 (I’m serious, I am legit noting stuff in a little notebook, you give so many great advice, I’m feeling inspired) 💯😘
Aww congrats 😊
Congratulations Zoe! Wish you all the best with your pregnancy and motherhood! 😍
Congrats, Mama! I'm so happy you've been finding these videos helpful😊
I wish Medicaid paid for midwives here in Alabama, I really wanted to have a home birth and a midwife. I don’t love my obgyn experience but I’ve come to terms with it and know that I’m gonna have an amazing natural birth regardless. Your videos have been sooo helpful and I love them💙
Solidarity Healthshare covered mine 100% after my deductible was met, it’s not insurance but a healthshare and they are very natural minded
I’m due in a week! (Feb 27th) and this is perfect timing! I plan to have a natural unmediated birth! 🤞🏽
Good luck 🤞❤️
Wahoo! You got this Mama😊🤍 Wishing you a happy and healthy delivery!
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰🥰
How did everything go?
You a working mom and we hope you have a good life and we love you
I’m in New Brunswick and other than Fredericton we don’t have access to midwives (although some reps are trying to change that 🤞🏻🙏🏻). I’ve had a doula for my first and one for my second right now at 25 weeks. I wish we had midwives so badly, but I’m glad I have an OB and doula who work well for me for what I can get.
Hi Nicole, random question i wanted to ask but what music did you use in your birthvlog? Love your channel 💕
Could you make a video about what you actually used at the hospital and what Ontario hospitals provide? Thanks!
Due in April, this was so so helpful! Thank you 😘💗
My due date is in 3 weeks. thanks for such a positive birth video.
so exciting! You're going to rock your birth!
Right?! Always nice to hear the positives ❤️
Im due in 2 weeks
Beautiful, thanks for sharing 🧡
Hi!!! I’m due in 10 days with my first baby. I live in the USA in PA. I REALLY wanted a midwife and doula, my insurance doesn’t cover it and i didn’t have the money for it. I also felt like the different OBGYN doctors I saw were so impersonal- 2 doctors i seen for the first time literally saw me for 2-3 min. During my 36 week I was told i was getting checked to see if I was dilated; I said “what? I was never told previously about being checked”. I was checked by a obgyn i just met- i didn’t like her vibe.
I was also told that any obgyn can deliver my baby. I don’t want someone that hasn’t really spent time with me or brush me off to deliver my baby girl.
I tried to talk to one doctor about my birth plan. She didn’t even look at it. She said she knows about natural births, but keep an open mind for a C-section and other things.. i felt not heard. I cried during that appointment
When i saw the obgyn that I started with she was kind enough to look over my birth plan and give me feedback.
I grew up In the suburbs- that hospital is supposed to be one of the best VS the ones in the city by me are TERRIBLE.
I’m hoping my next pregnancy I will be able to have a midwife/doula. Even reaching out to them they were so kind and took the time to hear me and give advice.
(I’m a babyfaced mom. I’m 33 going on 34 in 4 months. If anyone sees or hears me thinks I’m so much younger)
Question for you - and yes, you are a superwoman!!! Did you prepare with any specific childbirth classes?
Love your content. FYI - OHIP is Ontario only, not Canada. The OBGYN/Midwife options are different by province and not all provinces had midwife options publicly.
My appointments with my OB team are a minimum of 45 mins. And my OBs seem open-minded. They do work closely with a midwifery but are not midwives themselves. I am thinking of switching over to the midwifery since (so far) I am a low-risk pregnancy. But I’m going to get my glucose tested next appointment and have that convo with my OB.
I am due April 10th with my second. I've been watching ALOT of videos about natural birth cause I feel like I chickened out with my first and got an epidural. This pregnancy I am preparing myself for a natural unmedicated birth because I want to experience both!
My obgyn experience was way better than my experience with the midwife tbh. I don't know what to do because if I get the obgyn it's a 30 minute drive away from where I live and appointments would be hard
Your midwife experience is similar to an OB experience in the US, but also we pay for for insurance and healthcare
YESS you're so strong, queen, wow!!
How the heck do you make me actual look forward to pregnancy and motherhood 😂 A baby is not in the books for me for awhile though (hopefully)
In one of the videos there was mention of stretches that help speed along labor, anyone catch which one and what link I can go do for those stretches???
I wish I saved the link when watching the video originally, but I was way too early in pregnancy and wasn't focused on tricks to speed up labor.
you are so raw and real....OMG hilarious
I swear after after having a baby you are just like whatever it’s a body and we’re all human haha
Thank you for this video! I'm due in May with my first and plan to try an unmedicated birth, like you open to an epidural if I need it. How did you deal with masks in terms of breathing through pain? My hospital recommends masks for birthing (but they said they don't enforce them).
I think I had a mask on going into the hospital but I didnt through labour as things just got intense fast. Matt and the midwives all had masks on but I honestly think it's insane to try and have a mom pushing a baby out with no mask and no drugs.. I felt like I was doing the hardest workout of my life and I needed as much oxygen as I could get! If you can wear it but I personally was more focused on just getting through labour and getting sage out than the piece of fabric on my face. I think I must have torn it off as soon as I got onto the bed lol
I wanted to go with a midwife with my first pregnancy but there was a wait list here in Canada so unfortunately I couldnt go with one, I had to go with an OB who I wasnt happy with since they missed my glucose test at 28 weeks and I didn't get it until i was 35 weeks pregnant. I gave birth at 39 weeks. Because I had Gestational Diabetes I had to be induced which was not fun at all. This time around so far I was tested at 23 weeks thank god for this OB who was the one who gave birth to my son since he was on call when I was induced. But because of that I thought it was safer for me to go with an OB again since the midwife wait list here in Canada is a long wait. He is truly an amazing guy and I'm happy i decided to go with someone with more knowledge. My first OB was female and I did not like her at all. She seemed very busy and didnt really care. This second one is the best.
At what point in your pregnancy did you start doing the stretching and primrose oil every day?
Unfortunatelly, where I am, we don't have the midwife option....and now, due to COVID, my husband is not allowed in the hospital.....I had my OBGYN but she gave birth last month when I had to switch to another OBGYN, one that was available in the hospital....this is my 1st, at 41yo, after 3 miscarriages....I am so anxious and scared of the labor, the level of pain, being there without any member of my family....39 weeks today. I just pray to God to be with me and guide my labor and my doctor so my baby girl comes here safe and sound...Thank you for the content!❤
I been trying to find the contraction calculator app that you used as I am about to deliver soon and I think it would be very helpful . Thank you
I just asked Matt and he said it was called “contraction counter” and the icon is a little lightening bolt ☺️
Thank you Nikki for this video! I think you mentioned in another video using a perineal balloon (to help stretch that area), could you share where you got it? I live in the GTA and was looking for one and could only find them available in europe (no shipping).
We actually never used the balloon because Matt physically did the stretching on me since it’s hard to do yourself with a big belly in the way. I would check well.ca they might have one!
I was so happy too with my 2 Midwives, they are so Nice. I had 2 and I’m telling you I was so Happy so happy.
They are always for you for the baby it is actually part of your family so special. .
🤍
Do you wash off the oil after the perineal massage?
loved this!!
Same 🙌🏽
Hypnobirthing worked for me.
I love to hear your care experience! It's so very different from mine, Just proves everyone has a unique experience! I had a really bad experience with the midwife, and preferred one of the Male OBs, which I was NOT expecting.
What oil were you smelling during your labor?
great share ............
OHIP is provincial, not federal. It only covers Ontario, not all of Canada.
Are you in ontario? What doula did you use? Im in Ontario! And would love to know your recommendations for doulas
Where did you buy your oil diffuser?
I think it’s all personal preference, as every birthing situation is different. Me on the other hand with my first baby I chickened out and got an epidural and it wore out before even giving birth🤦🏽♀️ my 2nd I did it natural 9 hours!! My 3rd was so INTENSE but quick 3 hours there was NO TIME for epidural, I almost gave birth in the admin room! No way is the wrong way💕💕💕
Yes! Every experience is so different😊
Yay for going the midwife route!!
Can I ask why you didn’t want sage to get eye drops right after been born?
love the video but had to laugh at the reference to "OHIP" being healthcare in Canada.... OHIP is ONTARIO Health Insurance Plan which is not the same (though functions mostly similar) to that of other provinces
Births in UK are usually midwife ones. At maternity wards in hospitals or birth centres, births are usually midwife ones and doctor called if higher risk pregnancy or nicu will be needed from what I understand. I've actually not given birth before, just from what I know from living in UK and watching birth documentaries and birth stories in UK. I find it kinda interesting and culture shock that in us people seem to have doctor births more. I think I'd prefer a midwife birth.
I have always been a person who's last wish on earth is to be pregnant/a mother but bc of you and your pregnancy with sage and your motherhood I honestly want to be a mom so much one day
Thank you for sharing this video. Please let me know where you bought this sweater you are wearing in this video, it’s beautiful
I agree with 99% of everything you said! The only thing I wouldn’t do is the primrose oil. It has been linked in studies to PPh.
Is PPH post partum hemorrhage?
@@tinglesmgee6836 yes
First I'd like to say thank you for this video. Definitely gave me really good information and tips I didn't know and will be using. I'm due November 9th, so only a few more months left. I'm very scared because I went into this thinking I'd request a c section, I looked it up and everything I read said you can but recently people been telling me I can't. I will talk to my OB tomorrow about it. But I haven't been preparing myself for giving birth from my vagina so that worries me. I know women give birth everyday but I'm terrified. I watched your birthing video in the beginning of my pregnancy and I passed out from seeing you in pain, hearing it in your voice, thinking that will be me very soon. I know my body can do it but mentally I cannot. I know mentality going through this or anything is very important and can actually have a very positive or negative impact on things, but that just makes me more scared. I have anxiety in general, but pregnancy has always been at the top of my list of fears. I am excited and cannot wait to have my baby, but I am just very scared. I think about it and panic, I cried now watching this just thinking about contractions. Ugh, bless you and all mother's, very strong women.
Did you take any courses on breast feeding?
you look amazing my first baby they gave me the epidural when I get birth I felt it now my second one I was like we'll see how it goes and it was very hard but I did gave my baby when do medicine it was painful but I gave birth like in 10 minutes not my older sister she gave all her for kids without no medicine but I said I spend them both and I feel both birth but it's a blessing being a mom no matter which way and as a mom only you know what's best congratulations again and for all those moms that's going to be a mom God bless and thank you for sharing your experience
Where are you in Canada and what midwifery did you go with? :)
When you would recommend starting hypnobirthing? What week did you start?
I think we started mid-end of second trimester. If you check out my second trimester blogpost it might say the exact week! I also linked the one I did ☺️
@@HealthNutNutrition awesome thanks so much!
Great video!! Can you do abdominal exercise while pregnant?? I don’t what to do.
There's many, check out body fit by Amy
@@AC-iw5mv I second the BodyFitbyAmy recommendation! Her prenatal workouts are amazing, she's how I got back into exercising at 32 weeks without back pain.
I didnt prepare myself at all and had 2 children completely natural! My first I was only 18 and had a 22 hour labor and still had my daughter naturally.
Wow you really did everything to get a natural birth! I only did pelvic floor exercises as part of prenatal yoga and dam massage with a special oil and I gave birth both times naturally and unmedicated. But I had quite small babies, both of them just under 3 kilos.
I’m having identical twin girls July and I ... don’t know if this is possible 🥴
I don't see the link to the stretching video
I saw on your birth plan that you said no to eye drops. Can you please elaborate?
Only really need it of you or partner has certain STDs [gonorrhea, chlamydia] because it can cause blindness to baby but the antibiotics eye ointment can prevent this. But if you know you and your partner don't have these issues then it is unnecessary but the hospitals give it out as routine [they look at it as an easy thing that can prevent something serious + also sometimes partners have cheated and aren't aware they carry these stds]
I had a midwife for my pregnancy and no one mentioned to me about perineum stretching until like I was in labour/after birth lol I was so annoyed because I did tear and I think it may have helped if I did stretch
Its one of those things thats not proven but I had so many people recommend it I thought why not! I mean it makes total sense.. stretch out the area that is going to HAVE TO stretch for baby's head. Maybe for your next pregnancy you can try it out and compare. I agree though that this information should be known and thats why Im so passionate about talking about these things I did because I know not everyone is told about them.
@@HealthNutNutrition ahhh thanks for replying to me!! I definitely know a lot more now about how to have a more enjoyable pregnancy and birth experience for if I decide to have another baby. I agree that this kind of info should be more well known!
Love your videos! Newly pregnant and learning lots. Just an FYI, OHIP isn't Canada's healthcare, it's just Ontario 🤣😜 each province has their own medical system name
Yes I know I think i just forgot to clarify 😅
@@HealthNutNutrition all good :) I'm in BC so I know what OHIP is 😜
I’m fine with OB but there’s wait time to get doctor and then it feels so fast and they run off. Definitely want midwife next time around!!!
what does she mean when she says "I didnt do the dates"? what are "the dates"?
Which week did you start your perineum stretching?
Week 35 ☺️
@@HealthNutNutrition thank you! I just played the video again and you did mention it! Thank you for taking the time to respond. I literally just put myself on a waitlist to see a pelvic floor specialist, she’s booked until after my due date. Keeping my fingers crossed that she will have a cancellation and I can see her before week 35. Do you remember what week you saw your pelvic floor therapist?
How many ppl allowed in your hosp room?
Are you in British Columbia? 🥰
I hope that not all women have the same OB experience, i would really love to add, that i see two OBs (a "normal" one and a prenatal specialist one) working together and they both are...amazing and kind. I wish all were like that while my midwife experience was... well ok but not so great like the OB team is. we agreed that the prenatal care is for the OBs and after the baby will be born the midwife helps with breastfeeding and care. Its an accessibility problem here also, i can change OBs real quick and have a wiiide variety of them while...i had ONE midwife that had appointment space and that was even lucky. I do not really get to choose. So, dont get me wrong your experience is 100 percent valid and you did the best for you, i just hope not all the OBs are like that but i live in another country too and sometimes its also coincidence who you meet. We saw the baby boy in the ultrasound today real close and it was amazing, she explained where everything was and it was truly...moving.
There was no way I was going through my 24hr labour (with Pitocin) without an epidural. Best decision I’ve ever made
I had an OBGYN in Ontario and my experience was amazing. But the hospital I delivered at specializes in labour and delivery so that could’ve made the difference
