  • Ever looked at Tudor’s Black Bay and thought, ‘It’s great, but it’s just a bit too big’? Turns out you’re not the only one, because while the successful 41mm full-size Black Bay continues to live on, Tudor has actually done something about it.

After living with my Rolex TT Datejust for 40 yrs., I decided to get a Sub for everyday wear. OMG, the prices were (are) stupid! Acquired the Tudor S&G and love it. The size is not a problem and I saved $8000. Exactly, a 'no- brainer' . Great video!

Everything is subjective, but I think the Harrods edition BB is nicer than a Kermit (which is my grail Rolex).. but it's just too big! If they made the Harrods edition BB in the 58 size.. it would never leave my wrist.

I think exactly the same about the tudor bb58.

Well Tudor is a little brother to Rolex, it offers good quality but the clockwork is not as superior as Rolex, they use a cheaper yet still good clockwork for their Tudor watches, and the materials are different Tudor is supposed to be an affordable luxury watch where Rolex is Rolex. Tudor is also born in a Rolex factory but i wouldn't say Rolex is currency if I had a Rolex I would definitely wear it all the time. Tudor is a nice watch though Rolex designs are very classic and it just keeps being like that where with Tudor they actually take chances adding different shapes and etc !

I've been collecting Rolex and Tudor for the best part of two decades, and I would pick the BB58 over any Rolex diver currently in production. Both the proportions and the execution are fantastic (those beveled edges...).
Not holding my breath that they will release a reduced size GMT anytime soon, as it would entail developing a new movement again. Maybe in a few years though. It would be interesting if they came up with watch variations based on the movement used in the BB58. What I am thinking about is a 38-39mm case, smooth bezel with anti-magnetic features and distinctive hands. Very much like a modern Rolex 1019.

Strange for me why so many wants a gmt function. How often do you travel to another time zone? For me it might be one or twice a years. I do however cook at least 5 times a week and here a divers watch comes in nicely. Rice 12 minutes on the boil followed by 12 minutes resting at the hot plate. Potatoes 14 minutes, eggs 8 minutes. For me a divers watch is not for diving it’s for organizing oneself without stress. So unless I end up as a frequent flier, not likely in these co2 conscious times, I will stick with a divers bezel or a plain bezel.

My hopes are up for a smaller Pelagos, I really like the placed indices, clean look, bracelet clasp diver mechanism spring thing, the coin-edge bezel, the fact that the top click is different from the others so that you can return the bezel to the 12’o clock position without looking, the quality of the titanium finishing (rare to find *cough* Steinhart (I know the Steinhart is in a different price bracelet but still, its sad because I love the design of the Steinhart but cannot bear the finishing issues, Steinhart is great value for money tho, even with all the great watches I use my GMT 38 still gets plenty wrist time) ), the way the beginning of the hands is matched to the dial, the bezel finishing and finally the water resistance is also great.
Some watches can pull of the 42mm size, I’m still in love with my Heuer Carrera for instance. (But the Tag has a lovely gentle, small, thin, sturdy and flexible bracelet and a smaller looking bezel, which makes it wear smaller than it’s size would suggest).
The GMT version of the watch featured in the video would be great; when I wear a GMT I use it quite often just to tell military time. Also the great mechanical feeling of setting a GMT watch is just lovely.
Anyway, great video as always, beautiful watch and cinematography.

Putting money to one side, I’d rather have a BB58 over any watch that Rolex currently makes.

I prefer the Black Bay Heritage Black cos it looks pretty close to a ref 6538 (hands, size and logo aside).
It's a shame Rolex don't do reissues, because I'll tell you what: if they did a homage to their own 6538, they wouldn't be able to sell them fast enough. That said, they don't exactly have a problem selling Steel Sports anyway.

The 41mm Black Bay being "too big" is just the thickness, the answer should've been to reduce the thickness rather than the diameter.

40-41mm is the perfect size diver IMO 7 1/2 wrist.I reserve 38mm and under for dress watches. But I realize most watch enthusiasts are the frail skinny wrist type

recently purchased a BB in bronze from yourselves. at 43mm I was a tad worried it would arrive and id hate it but its brilliant. but, I'm now thinking how nice it would be at 39mm. they'll realise one I'm sure.

So if it was 41 but thick as the 58 would be perfect

If the BB58 had a Date, GMT, Bothered with METAS, and had a display case-back, I'd buy it without question.

The 58 to me is positively wonderful! I have small wrists/hands, and anything over 40mm doesn't work for me. I'm happy companies are making smaller watches again. Now if only I had the funds.

Anyone else surprised by all the QA issues on the two tone Tudor? Lume at the bottom of the 12 marker and top right of the 6 marker isn't filled in.

Riveted bracelet is a backward step. The BBB rose had the perfect bracelet, and that rose on the dial.

Could I suggest you cover the Oris brand? It is a brand with plenty of history, heritage and patented technologies. It is also independent, unlike some of the horological giants that you cover. Thank you.

Six weeks ago in the Tudor outlet in Siam Paragon, Bangkok, they would discount any watch in the shop by 15% without asking EXCEPT Black Bay 58. Now they will only sell you a 58 if you buy another watch at the same time. Enough! Time to reconsider watch desirability and pricing.

I'm looking at this watch on your website. Why do you not have all the standard dimensions listed?
It seems to be pretty important when buying a watch online.
I see the case diameter is 39mm, but what about lug-to-lug, thickness, diameter with crown, etc.
    Thanks!

The gold on the bezel is a bit over the top for me, I wish they kept the bezel markings white, I think the original beats it in that respect, everything else is great though.

I hate the “faux vintage” that Tudor is so committed to. The 58 with black/white bezel, white indices, and without the cream “fake age” it would be awesome.

I have had my 58 for some times. I don’t see the gilt as faux vintage. The colour theme is actually not gold, but more goldy gray. It is very subtle and elegance in person IMO.
