Chigari BRTS of Hubballi in Karnataka has a daily ridership of 1Lakh, which is more than few metros in India, this proves that proper planning and implementation is important.
Metro isn't affordable and flexible they need huge infra to setup, buses just need driver conductor and bus stops to operate, don't forget e-rickshaw congestion near metro stations most near college areas and inter-state areas
A city like Delhi needs a full on metro with 6 car rakes running every other minute. BRTS is for smaller cities like Hubballi. I have used in Hubballi and it's great but definitely does not have a place in a city as dense and big as Delhi.
Well researched video. I was in 10th when the BRTS in Delhi was introduced. During the initial days, there was no lane discipline, Delhi’s car and bike riders were shocked that Buses, cycles and pedestrians were given priority. And their vehicle took 1 hr to cross a 6km stretch. The people who made a fuss about it were mostly the private car owners, who had more agency to protest. People who benefitted were from EWS and LIG groups, who didn’t own cars, and many those who lived in south Delhi. They had access to good bus services, in the early morning and in the evening one could see a sea of bi-cycle riders safely commuting. This made car owners unhappy. For a decade the bicycle lanes photographs near Jahapanha forest were used in transport planning reports as “best practices”. Yes, there were faults, the lane widths were less, there were no adequate separations for lanes, anyone could jaywalk anywhere, and the bus stops were open. And, the stretch was very small to judge a public transit. These could have been rectified. Bus services are not only cost-effective but are flexible. As a city core can shift in 50 years, the bus services seem for feasible in comparison to the metro. But the damage was done, the media made it a hyper issue and gained hiked TRP, and we lost good service.
I've visited multiple countries, and almost all of them had dedicated bus lanes and proper stops. It's disheartening that India lacks a robust bus system. Even in Delhi, there are no proper bus stops, live tracking, or dedicated lanes. Relying solely on metros for public transport will never ensure last-mile connectivity. If buses were more reliable and user-friendly, many people would happily switch from private cars to public transport.
Roads planing and space is big problem in india for already established cities it can be made part of upcoming planned cities like Capital of Telangana,Dharera pf gujrat etc.
DTC bus network in Delhi is even bigger than DMRC. There are multiple places in Delhi in which buses can freely move but metro can't. However, it is highly unreliable and unsafe for passengers.
Ahmedabad BRTS is much better , efficient and well connectivity. Ahmedabad have much better transportation with Metro , BRTS, munipical corporation buses , cycles.

I think Ahmedabad BRTS is most successful & well planned & well maintained..... Ahmedabad BRTS is biggest brts network in the country. Hi Lastly, thanks for the great video. You raised an important point which I don't see often in indian urban planning discussion. About making cities smaller and more compact. Cities should grow vertically and not area wise, this will always lead to congestion and higher travel time. Would appreciate if you can make a video on that and provide this knowledge to indian citizens.
I think if government introduced tram as road median trasport system than its better tram need small space than BRT and they can carry large population rhan bus , and it can more uniform than BRT .
Well, I am from Bhopal, and I can say that it was not very successful here. It has been dismantled in Bhopal and is being dismantled in Indore. It was mostly due to the very low frequency of buses, and the lack of connectivity made citizens use more cars, which caused road congestion.
Fellow Indori here. Elaborate on your thoughts regarding BRTS. And also, I strongly agree that low frequency of buses make it quite unreliable at times. While it makes sure that people are motivated to use cars, it, over a period of time, also cause a type of development which supports the car users. For real, our BRTS just required a desperate revival, but the govt ended up giving it a farewell.
Hi, can you make a video about gati Shakti program. It deals with mukti mode transportation and how it's interlinked. If this system was better integrated with metro then it would have worked better.
Mai bhi delhi se hu or dtc, metro bht acchi h 😅 ... Haa ye baat to h log risk mai road cross krte h or traffic bht hota h logo ki hi wajah se koi kabhi bhi apni gadi beech mai lee aata h 😂
Fact check, Pune has India’s first BRTS system, started in 2006. Though it’s not successful in PMC but quite successful PCMC area. PMC is now clearing for metro and to handle road traffic.
Problem with brt was that roads were not wide enough due to which private traffic congestion increased drastically which lead to hours of jam. Either roads should be wide enough or traffic should be very low . And brt was made in a very densely populated area so it was bound to fail.
Let's have a chat. I'm from Indore. It was on 21 November 2024, when CM Dr. Mohan Yadav announced the Dismantling of the dedicated corridor for Indore BRTS. Since then, the city is kinda divided by an intangible wall of opinions : on one end, stand the ones who are in favour, and on the others, are the ones who are opposed. Initially, the corridor opened in 2013 for Indore brts was a pilot corridor and it was the shortened version of the actual, wider phase. But for the motorists, the normal lanes seemed too narrow that it was promptly challenged in court, and soon, cars were allowed in the lanes. The condition remained grim for 1.5 years, and then BRTS was again dedicated to buses, but by then, the project lost the central govt project and the expansion of BRTS was a topic never opened again. Not expanding had its own consequences, as Public transport never came out as a reliable mode of transport, on a wide scale, thanks to the fact that the condition of buses beyond BRTS is not at its great. People, gradually but surely, started relying on private transportation, and that's how we reach this juncture of the story, where Govt is ready to dismantle it. . . . Now, pls tell your opinions on the concerned matter.
Biggest reason of BRT failure is that it is made by claiming existing road which was earlier available to private vehicles. This lead to congestion when dedicated lanes for buses were carved out. Lack of common sense.
BRTS is no 1 choice of politicians because it's cheap. But they never implement it in its actual form. Theoretically, BRTS lanes should be dedicated and uninterrupted which means there should be underpass or flyover at intersections so that no other vehicles can enter the lane or restricted the BRTS buses at intersection. The buses can switch their direction only at BRTS terminal/depot (last stop). Implementing such BRTS system requires more cost and efforts therefore authorities implement it with limited features only.
Bro i need to give you a suggestion to fix it . I think we have to start a free buss and other free travelling options for public and working people's in large cities and you know ( free hai to sub istamal karata hai ) and all the people will start using it because of no cost for free to use people will slowly start shifting to other traveling options instant of cars bicks and masive auto trafics in so many countries there are free travelling options for people and they are using it . We just neet to introduce it we have a great example and it is still there in Market Jio remember how jio introduced there free plans for users and after that everything is changed it also making its monopoly in market thats wrong. But you see jio was a kind of revolution type of thing when they announced free plan's. As jio did we can do it for public transportation and other travelling also and it will reduce a problem of polution in some year peopl will become habitual of it and our air and environment will clean . 0:10
There is no reason why BRT cannot work in Delhi. The principal idea is to make public transport faster and make it appealing for the private vehicle owners to make the switch. Now where the system failed is the cross sections. The signals there became 6 phased from 4 earlier before the BRT. This slowed down the entire traffic appreciably including the BRT buses as red signal wait became much longer. This was a case of a poor design. Grade separators at cross sections were a must looking at volume of traffic. These would have increased the project cost but ensured its success. However, there were alternative designs possible to reduce the cost such as low cost narrower beam type grade separators for buses only with bus rail guide type steering mechanisms. One wonders why designers including the principal advisor, IITD failed to do a much thorough design job. Last thing one could expect was from Delhi’s favourite engineer CM, who ordered its dismantling without much investigation for design improvements. Giving up on sound principles is not the way to build any great infra works and is a defeatist policy by any public body.
I have not watched the video yet (I'm sorry), but maybe if you just ask people to give way to buses (you could enforce this by having a camera on each bus and fine people who don't give way to buses
It failed because of Delhi Government never implemented it in proper way and the huge corruption in MCD and the past structure of corruption imposed by the before governments made Delhi roads worse and can never run something like this successfully, until and unless someone comes who could throw all of them out of system and put others behind bars.
Dreadful experience trying to board DTC in Dwarka , timing schedule bus stop accurate location route nothing is easily explained anywhere , no incentive for general public to utilize this public transport.
BRT is a good intermediate system initially for a city growing and with place to have designated lanes. BRT doesnt work if the volume is high and the system takes place of normal vehicles If u r not able to cater to volume demands, people will simply not use system well.
Exactly! Fellow Indori here, and it was on 21 Nov 2024, when CM sealed the fate of Indori people by announcing the dismantling. Tbh, the BRTS just required the revival (expansion) but what it got, was a farewell.
Galat information de rahe hai aap DTC ko bahut bada loss hua tha actual amount to pata nahi.DTC ki strike 1988 mein Hui thi.Redline jo baad mein Blue line buni wo 1992 mein introduce thi
Useless idea at its best. Delhi needs more Metro and RRTS to connect within and neighboring satellite cities. Within Delhi, Metro coverage is good, but what about neighboring cities? People commute every single day back and forth due to work.
Private vehicle owners should support bus alnes because traffic will reduce if built properly, if you start protessting at 6 km, then of course you will think it's not working, but if you wait a little more like indore, it will certainly reduce traffic, and even without buses, there is evidence that lowering lanes increases traffic congestion for a year but after that, it returns to the same level. Same way, increasing lanes reduces traffic for 1 year, but then returns to the same level because of something called induced demand Here's a video of it for those interested - ruclips.net/video/CHZwOAIect4/видео.htmlsi=zUdx0tyg9fNGWao_

Do not question IIT passout ex IRS CM of Delhi. He is a padha likha CM. He can never make mistakes.

I have not watched the video yet (I'm sorry), but maybe if you just ask people to give way to buses (you could enforce this by having a camera on each bus and fine people who don't give way to buses
Same things happened in AMRITSAR
App or dusari country's ka bhi explain kar karo public transit system jo acha hai na ki india 😅😅😅😊😊😊
BRT would have been successful if it were built in less densely areas of Delhi.
It failed because of Delhi Government never implemented it in proper way and the huge corruption in MCD and the past structure of corruption imposed by the before governments made Delhi roads worse and can never run something like this successfully, until and unless someone comes who could throw all of them out of system and put others behind bars.
First Delhi ko state banao apne aap sab badal jayega 😊
But it can't be shutdown, Because it's our capital city and our reputation 😊
Look at the condition of DTC buses
Dreadful experience trying to board DTC in Dwarka , timing schedule bus stop accurate location route nothing is easily explained anywhere , no incentive for general public to utilize this public transport.
Pune m h
Indore or bhopal dono ka BRTS ab end ho rha h nye CM ko maza nhi aarha h isme😂
Even failed in pune too
Kuchh nhi ho sakta Hai itna jaam lagta tha iske wajah se
Bhai delhi mey buses bahut ho gai hai inko koi river idhar la kar usmey boat chalani chahiye 😂😂😂
2:20 Lmao 😂😂
Ahmedabad nai abhi bhi h ye.
BRT is a good intermediate system initially for a city growing and with place to have designated lanes.
BRT doesnt work if the volume is high and the system takes place of normal vehicles
If u r not able to cater to volume demands, people will simply not use system well.
Alag lane sahi h but baki bacha road bhi enough hona chiye baki vehicles k liye 😂😂
Amritsar brt system is also a failure
Rrts develop karo
Koi better alternatives nai dia apne thoda detail me dena chahiye upar upar se video banate ho.
We NEED BRT and TRAMS
Delhi had both. Dismantled. Only metro and rrts expansions now.
No
We need metro rrts and bullet train large airports
Exactly!
Fellow Indori here, and it was on 21 Nov 2024, when CM sealed the fate of Indori people by announcing the dismantling.
Tbh, the BRTS just required the revival (expansion) but what it got, was a farewell.
@dakshhcr2574 brt is worst
@@tukaidas1272 and why is that. Kindly elaborate on your views.
Galat information de rahe hai aap DTC ko bahut bada loss hua tha actual amount to pata nahi.DTC ki strike 1988 mein Hui thi.Redline jo baad mein Blue line buni wo 1992 mein introduce thi
BRT in Bhopal is a failed project and this year it has been removed. Please do your research properly
Bhai dtc ki complain kaise krte hai, uske drivers bidi gutkha se passangers ko pareshan krte hai + un logo ka behaviour bhi bohot kharab hota hai
lastly😑
Bhopal me BRT fail ho gyi hai
Jb tak public place pe gutka thukne waale aur gndi politics krne waale politician delhi me rhenge tb tk kuch b acha ni ho skta NCR me
Bhopal ka Brts band ho chuka hai aur indore ka bhi hone wala hai 😂😂 old information k basis pe video banana aasan hai current information to le lete 😂
Now the high time to build BRT in Delhi because of pollution
Useless idea at its best.
Delhi needs more Metro and RRTS to connect within and neighboring satellite cities. Within Delhi, Metro coverage is good, but what about neighboring cities? People commute every single day back and forth due to work.
Private vehicle owners should support bus alnes because traffic will reduce if built properly, if you start protessting at 6 km, then of course you will think it's not working, but if you wait a little more like indore, it will certainly reduce traffic, and even without buses, there is evidence that lowering lanes increases traffic congestion for a year but after that, it returns to the same level. Same way, increasing lanes reduces traffic for 1 year, but then returns to the same level because of something called induced demand
Here's a video of it for those interested - ruclips.net/video/CHZwOAIect4/видео.htmlsi=zUdx0tyg9fNGWao_
1. India has no driving traffic sense. You cannot have BRTs when people will not follow rules, and you will not issue hefty fines because it is socialism.
2. Don't tag videos of anti car activists living in Law abiding Europe. It makes absolutely no sense.
@@PentangleYT Why do you think India doesn't follow traffic rules -
1. 5 m wide lanes when less than 3 m are needed making lanes essentially useless
2. Traffic signals allow you to go at yellow and still not crash, so people will obviously go in yellow, there's no reason of an extra buffer but it makes the roads dangerous.
3. No proper cameras to fine drivers
@@PentangleYT don't just blame it on Indians (even if you're Indian yourself like me), it's the government

1. You must be one of those Socialist activists blaming the govt for everything.
2. Reduce the width of the lane nothing will change.
3. "Traffic signals allow you to go at yellow and still not crash, so people will obviously go in yellow," -- Shows you don't live in Delhi or live in those posh elite south Delhi suburbs. Nowadays, people don't stop for the signal to go yellow or green, they just go their way. They aren't concerned about your signal rules. Specially E- Rickshaws and Auto waala who are completely aware that IIT pass out CM Kejriwal will back them to get votes.
4. LOL. Cameras to fine won't change anything. --- Fines are too low. It needs to be quadrupled and vehicles should be confiscated along with license cancellations after 3 strikes. Enforcement should happen in the entirety of the city, not just in lutyens (I am looking at you NE Delhi.)
5. Your comments have absolutely no touch of the city.
