    Important! For anyone wondering this exercise works exceptionally well! Yesterday i decided to check out this way of strengthening multifidus muscles so i did all moves as described in the video for about 20 - 25 minutes to be sure that i can feel soreness in the right spots next day. I was sceptical at first but here comes "next day" and i feel pain and soreness exactly along the vertebrae column, from top to bottom , the place were multifidi supposed to be. It wasn't trapezius, lower or middle back muscles but multifidi.
    Thank you so much Dr Abbate for showing this exercise and helping me in my struggle against the lower back pain!

      Have you continued doing the exercise? If so, how has it been for you so far?

      @@sentesues9383 After my recovery i didnt do this exercise anymore, switching instead to my usual deadlift that trains multifidus exceptionally well. Lower back pain persists as it was almost whole my life. I cant say for sure what helped more in my recovery after trauma - this exercise, prescribed anti-inflammatory drugs, special gymnastics or all of these combined.

    What a brilliant video Lila and unique in the grand scheme of the many videos available. It makes so much sense and explains why it can be overdone and overcooked leading to other problems. Keep up the great work it is of such a benefit and so easy to follow your superb teaching style.

    This simple exercise is ,by far, the most effective for me when i feel like my back is going to spasm (go out), or I've already thrown it out and am am trying to recover.
    Thank you

    As with many of these videos it would be useful to see them with someone less experienced and toned than the model used.

    • @bsdpowa
      @bsdpowa 2 месяца назад

      reason why fit people are always models is because they are able to show your different positions and how your body moves slowly, if they got a fat slob to demonstrate you wouldn't be able to see anything that goes on

    When I go to PT, when I do this exercise, for example, they just tell me to lift my right leg and left arm, then left leg and right arm. They don't tell me any of the other things you go into here. I don't understand why there is such a lack of focus on what looks like to me would be very important things to do. Am I just feeling picky, or do they not really care, or do they not know a lot? What is going on? Sometimes they may tweak something here or there, but they don't do much of the detail oriented things I see in a lot of these videos. I'm having back issues that are really affecting my life a lot and I'm not getting better.
    Also, my X-ray and MRI showed three types of problems going on. My spine doctor says those are what are causing my pain (lower back, radiating deep in the hips and down the backs of my legs), yet my PT (my main one, another one says I probably have disk issues and nerves being effected) thinks I only have some kind of pain thing that's not based in anything physical. When I told him about my X-ray and MRI he said that every PT there could look at them and see different things. He also says people can have these things and not have any pain at all. I'm trying to keep an open mind and I would really love to just have nerve misfirings or whatever it is he thinks I have, but it doesn't make sense. Why do any PT at all then? If I do have what he thinks is wrong with me then why does he not tell me what to do about it? And why am I getting progressively worse over several years?

    so you are basically activating multifidus via activating abdominal muscles? specifically by ''hollowing abdominals'' you are activating mostly transversus abdominis and obliq intern. abd. muscle and by activating them you are activating multifidus, because those abdominal muscle have their attachments in thoracolumbar fascia. but is that enough for multifidus strengthening for a competitive sportsmen like weightlifters, bodybuilders and alike ppl which had some spine injuries? any other exercises maybe?
    I just got my PT degree and im reading alot of books on rehab, biomechanis and kinesiology, they say all the biomechanics of movements but name only a few exercises, was wondering if there is any more exercises, but one you can cite from literature, i would be gratefull for answer!

    I agree with another comment that educational videos like this too often use super athletic young models. For your information, many older clients do not want to get down on the floor.

      For me, is it possible for a super tight multifidus causing my body to not rotate and eventually my pelvis to not rotate?
