    About the United States Marine Corps:
    The Marine Corps defends the people of the United States at home and abroad. Within every Marine is the willingness to engage and determination to defeat any adversary, and it is this fighting spirit that allows us to fight and win our Nation’s battles.
    The mission of the United States Marine Corps is made up of three promises: We make Marines, we win our Nation’s battles, and we develop quality citizens prepared to fight and win battles.
    You don’t join the Marines-you become one, forged in the crucible of training aboard our recruit depots on Parris Island, South Carolina, and in San Diego, California, or through the dedication required of officer candidates at Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. Beyond the physical requirements, aspiring Marines must prove they have the honor, courage, and commitment to face and defeat any obstacle.
    Today, more than 180,000 enlisted Marines and 23,000 Marine Officers serve in active duty or reserve forces on bases and in communities around the world, proudly carrying with them the core values of the Marine Corps.

      Every anything isn’t always something not matter what your referring to in life. It’s about the individual. Every concealed carrier doesn’t train to the point of knowing how to use his weapon under pressure and to a point that you would call him/her/they an expert. I had about 5 MOS’s in the Marines from 2005-2009. No matter what my MOS on any given year, that didn’t stop me from shooting expert at the range and during becoming a rifle coach on Paris Island. I saw many that could not handle the weapon well but that’s in no way because the training wasn’t there. At least during my time, nothing was given to you. If we were voluntold to eat dirt we ate dirt and said ey sir after. It was always up to the person in the end how dedicated, motivated they wanted to be. So while you aren’t wrong, it’s about the person not the Marines themselves. We were for sure trained and offered options to become elite at what we did.

    Everybody is a rifleman in the Marine Corp. They really stress marksmanship. When I was in boot camp in 1968 I was at the firing range in the prone position with a M-14 firing I think at the 300 yard line. All of a sudden a range instructor raps me hard with the front edge of his binoculars and screamed in my ear that I wasn't concentrating. After that my firing really improved. I thought I was concentrating but I really wasn't. To this day I value that lesson. I wish I could go back thru that training again. Once a Marine always a Marine. Semper Fi

    The M240B itself is not a medium machine gun. The M240 platform was originally designed to be, but by definition, a medium machine gun is a single purpose machine gun that fires a full length rifle cartridge. The versions that mount to the Bradley’s, helicopters, and naval vessels are medium machine guns because they can only be used for that role, since they lack a conventional fire control group. The M240B, M240L, and M240N respectively are General Purpose Machine Guns, since they can be employed in a number of roles, similar to the German MG42/MG3, and the Russian PK series machine guns.

    Its a damn shame that the 240s are no longer capable of being dis-assembled and assembled in competition due to the PEQ16 rails and the RCOs getting in the way. Its not the way it used to be. I joined a Marine Corps that was entirely "iron sighted" and as I was leaving they were putting a goddamn RCO on everything.

    • @JohnDoe-cx9hv
      @JohnDoe-cx9hv 8 лет назад +15

      Yeah but mounting an optic allows for much better sight picture and view throughout the battlefield. Which is an important aspect.

    • @whiskey4930
      @whiskey4930 7 лет назад +11

      that optic aint just for show though, it allows you to become even more accurate out to 1000+ meters because of the sights. hard to do with irons effectively. your good machine gunners get even better with these.

      Fritz Duquesne I've come to a decision old corps marines just want the whole marine corps to die in combat because the enemies are adapting to sights and stuff but they want us to remain behind the enemy so the enemy can kill us from further and we can't see them. thanks... glad to know you care about our lives so much.
