      Bro unless you hate yourself, don't enlist in the USMC. They are extremely mismanaged and underfunded. The only things they got going for them is that they have the best looking uniforms and Camp Pendleton.

      @@mybatteryisalmostdeadYes. The last time USMC boot camp was really tough was the early 2000s. The runs were longer and the quarterdeck sessions were longer. There was a recruit that drowned in 2008 and it got a lot easier after that.

    I still remember when the bus arrived at P.I. in 1981. A muscular DI stepped onto the doorway of the bus and yelled, "You've got about 30 seconds to get off my bus and get on the yellow footprints and 10 of them have already past." He was so imposing that few wanted to get close to him so somebody popped the emergency hatch at the back of the bus. One recruit was trying to climb out the side window. It was an array of total fear and confusion.

    Got to watch this years ago, first hand. Was a DoD civilian working at Parris Island. We were helping upgrade some computer systems and other minor things, when one of the sergeants (some kind of clerk I think) tasked with helping us, asked if we wanted to see something fun. His idea of fun was getting us down in our NWU's, watching as new boots arrived. All the while he kept a running commentary up about which of the boots he thought were going to make it, who was going to be trouble, and who got lost on the way to the Air Force. Those boots kept shooting glances at us. Four guys in navy camo, with tennis shoes on. I often wonder what the hell they thought of that.

      Parris Island physically was very easy. I was the series high PT test recipient. Because I was an athlete, I lost some of my fitness and strength by the end of bootcamp. You train together so the pace and intensity is not the same as for an athlete. Mentally it isnt so easy. 24/7 being babysat, watched and the "games" (Rose Garden, Scuzzy 500 squad bay cleaning on your hands and knees, carrying the racks outside for cleaning) grinds on you mentally. I suspect the latest generation of recruits will suffer dearly from lack of internet access. I did not have that probem in the late 1980s.

    • @hoodieso8858
      @hoodieso8858 6 месяцев назад +11

      @johnleclair663 MCRD San Diego, not an athlete. However, the physical part wasn't too bad. The quarterdecking and pit sessions because a recruit fell asleep in class wasn't fun. The worst part was the mental part and the chaos. I did kind of like the craziness at first. Until it got redundant really quick. This was last yr. It's still brutal and tough. Although it'll probably be the easiest or most fun of your usmc career

Shave your head bald before you go in, saves you you from getting an instant headachey haircut. Get plenty of sleep before you go in. They will make you stay awake for a full 24 hours in the booking process. Be cleaned shaved. Bring very very few personal belongings. Get in shape before you go, you still have time. And remember that your DIs are people to. They probably play play station or something when they allowed time off.

    8 plus years a Marine many years ago. Wouldn’t join today for all the money in the world. The new Corps is going thru many changes in mission, equipment and policies which are not focused on a warrior mentality or mission. The new Marines lost a combat comp to British Marines at 29 Palms ..their own playground and it wasn’t even close. They got rid of tanks which are necessary to support troops and are too focused on social justice. Listen to the Marine leaders in front of congress and it makes me sad that the Corps has changed so much.
