The scene with the boot camp haircut reminded me of a couple of movie scenes where guys had their long hair get cut down to nubs. Then I also thought that some of the haircut recipients were paying homage to the barbers for their service as well by giving the barbers some long locks to cut. This somehow also reminded of a time when I was walking to my office with a Gunny from the parking lot to the entrance, and I shoved my hands in pockets because it was chilly. The Gunny immediately looked at me, and sternly asked if I was testing her. My hands quickly and promptly came out of my pockets with the reply, no, Gunny, absolutely not. BTW, I was a LtCol at the time.
Stay strong and remember - we here in Europe count on you. You're NEVER alone, you're the bulwark of values, qualities and history which are larger than life and which ONLY the US could defend globally in an effective way. In 2021 they did a couple of test runs. Starting in 2023, females from the west coast began training in San Diego. Around the same time, Paris Island's 4th Recruit Training Battalion was deactivated. Recruit companies are all gender-integrated now, though individual platoons are still single gender. Most companies, in practice are still males-only, simply because there are comparatively fewer female recruits.
Was there May 28th 1982. What was odd is in the contraband room we weren't allowed to say a word. No sounding off whatsoever. We had to have those Skilcraft pens in our mouths the whole time. Anyone caught talking had to get up and sing. I laugh at it now, but it wasn't so funny then. Ah, the memories!
Jesus H Christ on a Harley! GIRLS AT SAN DIEGO??? Hell is freezing over. I spent three months there from June to October in 1976, and the only girls I saw were in photographs.

This crap is dumb. They're busy doing this dumb crap looking like fools while their peers are making hundreds of thousands a year on social media as influencers. Rather be an influencer making $100K/yr at the age of 19 then a tool running around screaming and stroking drill instructor ego's. And these tools will get into the fleet and realize that Marine Corps real life is lame and depressing. At 25 they'll be busy saluting grown men and women, some of whom will be younger than them while their peers are buying homes and making 6-figure salaries. So lame.
Don't wanna sound dumb but the Drill Instructor on the thumb was probably our drill hat for Lima company plt 3243. Drill Instructor Ssgt Pelkola. He's as real as they get and when he ITs u you might as well claim a heat case lol.
Don't think too much about it. Join a gym and do a combination of weight training and cardio. Cardio is going to be more helpful to you in the long run. Most recruits arrive with a history of bad eating habits. Eat healthy now, cardio up like crazy, even on recumbent or treadmills, on the soft grass or sand & lift weights. Just enough to tone. Do overdo it.
From girl to girl. Never joined but damn it’s so late for me. I’m 30 now and have tattoos where I regret placing them. Be a badass chick that you are and stay strong. Keep your head up and earn that pin. Your life will change after this experience. Good luck chicky💘💘💘
You think so. I’m a gen Z ( sadly) but I acknowledge the things that are off here. Do you mind being specific as to what’s changed in the corps that made it softer
Yes sir I said that in regards to uniforms they don't have to spit shine boots anymore and I've watched several videos addressing how they don't treat recruits like they did when I was in I will always love my fellow devil dogs they just have it easier than what we did my mos was 0311 so I was a hard charger anyway but love my corps love to all that served in every branch we all signed the dotted line to protect our beautiful country
I been thinking about joining, just not sure if I’m prepared for it though. I’m pretty short and don’t have much strength for the physical side of the training.
Plenty of people go into the military out of shape and not being able to do ten push ups, or even one pull up, and end up passing basic/boot. I'm currently in the enlistment process for joining the Army as a 19D Cav Scout. Currently 5'11 and 240(mostly muscle though) and tbh the only thing I'm worried about is the 2 mile run. But you'll never know if you'll make it or not unless you try. Send it bro.
Think hard about why you want to join and then if it’s what you want, go for it. It’s funny, I had those same doubts not too long ago. But bootcamp is not that hard, you will get stronger. Of course you should try to get as fit as possible before you leave, there will already be a lot to mentally stress about, making it less physically stressful will help you. I’ve seen short guys make it and a few fat ones too. It’s mostly a mental thing.
I won't lie to you, if you're not in very good shape it can be tough. However, it can be done and your recruiter will help you get into the shape you need to be to qualify for enlistment, but after that it's all up to you. I went into the Marine Corps as someone who wasn't in very good shape, I had never been particularly athletic my whole life, and I'm still not now. Buyt with a bit of practice on my own and with some help from my recruiter I was in good enough shape to pass the Initial Fitness Test which is the minimum fitness level test you need to pass before you can ship off to boot camp. Once I was in boot camp it became a matter of mind over matter for me. I was determined to not spend one extra day at MCRD, I told myself that I was not going to get dropped and I would graduate on time; and I did. It's also worth noting that in Marine Corps boot camp, it's very difficult, to near impossible to fail. EVen if you have a hard time physically, you will still graduate and beomce a Marine, just not 13 weeks after you arrive. If you aren't hacking it physically, you will be dropped from your platoon and sent to the Physical Conditioning Platoon where you will pretty much just work out and exercise all day until they feel that you;'re good enough shape to continue. You'll then join a new platoon that is at roughly the same point, or slightly behind, when you were dropped. So if you got dropped on Day3 of Week 5, you'll be sent to a Platoon that's at Day 1 - 3 of Week 5 and you'll probably end up graduating with that platoon.
Felt the same way, since I entered Basic at 5 foot 5 and 108 pounds. But I made it through Basic Training and have now served 15 years, 3 months and 6 days. You can do it.
You will fail, cry, struggle, sweat, and bleed. But never ever quit. They won’t quit on you. You are the only one who can quit

@@MercedezOlivarezI just saw your comment im a Marine now!!!! Just graduated my mos school stationed at Okinawa Japan 🇯🇵
@@Miles-xj5wy congratulations marine! I want to join but, I have to loose 30lbs first. How’s Japan? How was boot camp?
Went in '74. I cut my hair before i got there. Wasnt a kiss ass nor a trouble maker. Stayed in the woodwork. Worked for me
The scene with the boot camp haircut reminded me of a couple of movie scenes where guys had their long hair get cut down to nubs.
Man I ship out August 5th. Getting closer each day
PI or san Diego?
Stay strong and remember - we here in Europe count on you. You're NEVER alone, you're the bulwark of values, qualities and history which are larger than life and which ONLY the US could defend globally in an effective way. Good luck and after its all over come to Europe and even check out Ukraine - Ukraine needs everyone's help now, if the US and Europe are to live in peace. Respect and much love!
@@aj.1k922 hey man, I got out in 2012, did 11 years and 4 tours to Iraq, I went to paris Island, just do what your told and do it quick and "sound off" meaning, YELL, you have to scream everything you will loose your voice a bit but just do what you are told, do it quick, go to church service on Sunday, it gets you out of the squad bay for a few hours. you will be fine, keep updated brother!
I leave tomorrow so thats going to be fun
Enjoy yourself and embrace the SUCK!!!... ooRaah!!❤😅
My son graduated September 6 2024 Kilo Company 3rd Battalion Platoon 3223 Semper Fi Marine!!!!!
When did San Diego start getting female recruits? A lot has changed since I was in, graduated mcrdsd 2006, echo company, platoon 2067, SDI Ssgt Ruano.
OH YEA, DON'T CRY AT NIGHT WHEN U HEAR THE PLANES LEAVING THE AIRPORT THATS LITERALLY RIGHT BEHIND THE PT FIELD N CHOW HALL😂😂
Thanks for the update and memories ❤ John Barnett aka A Voice In The Mall ❤ revisted 20 June 2024 God Speed 3000 series 1965 old corp
If you thought that your day was starting off rough, just take a look.
8:06 I could imagine the parents who received this message were either laughing their asses off or deeply concerned... lol
Ah, the memories!
the pit kicks butt.
Jesus H Christ on a Harley! GIRLS AT SAN DIEGO???
Hell is freezing over.
I spent three months there from June to October in 1976, and the only girls I saw were in photographs.
Do think the instructors ever get sore throat or a bad headache from talking loud so much.
Last time I watch a marine boot camp video it was soooooooooooooooooooioooo different than this video. Not going to lie. This seems soooo easy compared to the old boot camp videos I’ve watched
Hell. Absolute hell.
Good luck becoming a unsm once a marine always a marine for the rest of your life don't ever forget that and your fellow brothers! Love is there brothers 😊
Just graduated charlie co good luck yall
Don’t care
@@thedaili4933don’t care so much you respond to multiple comments lmao
I ship out this coming Sunday. Wish me luck.
Good luck bro i just graduated a month ago
DI's see the busses, says "Ahhh, fresh meat!!"
So lame.
You'll be fine, listen, pay attention and move fast! Go to church on Sunday!

im goin coast guard active, but marines were def my 2nd choice. Nothing like a proud title of a marine.
I’ve been out for a year now, I’m glad I did it but I’m definitely happy to be free
I do miss the good memories though
My dad passed away nov3 2022 e8 okinawa japan retired now in heaven

Taking my asvab soon respect to all my future brothers and sisters
Don't wanna sound dumb but the Drill Instructor on the thumb was probably our drill hat for Lima company plt 3243. Drill Instructor Ssgt Pelkola. He's as real as they get and when he ITs u you might as well claim a heat case lol.
thumbnail that was my senior drill instructor for first 3 weeks
Was in from 2013 to 17. The good times lol
this looks like fun! 🎉
I ship out in July!
Good luck, ma'am, mad respect. If you csn, please tell me the experience after.
gonna be busy at the depot in july, but best of luck and dont give up on yourself and take of your body.
@d.rcarrera6599 4 more years and I might join. 🔥
From girl to girl. Never joined but damn it’s so late for me. I’m 30 now and have tattoos where I regret placing them. Be a badass chick that you are and stay strong. Keep your head up and earn that pin. Your life will change after this experience. Good luck chicky💘💘💘
I’m not ready to go but I know I have to go either way
Shipping out tomorrow, ngl I'm hella nervous 😭
August 3, 2015, MCRD SD, Echo.
Damn.
God bless all of the marines 🙏 ❤
god bless only str8t marines
since when are women allowed in RTC San Diego? I thought we were only trained at RTC Parris Island.
I was thinking the same
Times change.
It started in 2021.
I served from 94 to 98 as an 0311 the corps has changed so much I feel like it's gotten soft
You think so. I’m a gen Z ( sadly) but I acknowledge the things that are off here. Do you mind being specific as to what’s changed in the corps that made it softer
I ship out july 22nd, so a little over a month from when im posting this comment. Wish me luck, gentlemen
Idk where u got the drill videos from, but it’s weird seeing my platoon number used for a different platoon lol
You can’t spit shine the new style boots.
I been thinking about joining, just not sure if I’m prepared for it though. I’m pretty short and don’t have much strength for the physical side of the training.
There's a 4f9 guy that did the marine recruit training. You can do it if you put your heart and mind into it.
