Man I know this comment is old and you probably wont see this but I'm shipping out the 26th of this month so 18 days and I'm excited man I cant wait to shoot guns, get fit, and be yelled out but the only thing is I have a stuttering problem so if you experienced it can you tell me how shitty they treated the dudes that stutter. And hold any information itll make it worse lol
@@babybuddah187 I would say they would pick on you just to gain confidence in speaking, but if you don't want to get noticed then do everything exact and finish before the count down ends.(which is almost impossible sometimes) don't be worried. There are people going in that will easily be noticed because of height, weight, face or just the body type they have. The purpose of being picked on is to instil confidence in someone or stop a bad habit when the drill instructors first see it. Don't worry man, everyone usually get there fill lol.

@@Verble75 So if you go to a recruiter and saying anything about joining then the recruiters will get you physically prepared before shipping. They send you to MEPS to see if you pass the medical side of joining. Don't be too worried about the physical aspect of the whole process. The recruiters will prepare you before hand. It might be tough at first but keep pushing through new heights. Pain is weakness leaving the body...

I’m choosing the Marines because I wanna make a difference and I have watched all the commercials and because I wanted to honor my grandfather as well because he was a Marine and I will push myself and not quit either and so that’s why I wanna be a Marine because of those three things but I wanna be a Marine because I wanna honor my grandfather because he was a Marine and he fought in Vietnam on November 1st 1955 to April 30th 1975 and my grandfather was a Saw gunner in the Marines so I wanted to be a Marine because I wanted to honor my grandfather and thank him for helping me become a United States Marine as well and I will not quit and I wanna put on that Marine uniform because I wanted to honor my grandfather as well and I wanna make a difference as a Marine as well

Fifty nine years ago tomorrow, I left for boot camp at MCRD. I am still filled with pride about my time as a United States Marine. Those 12 weeks started me on an adventure which prepared me for the rest of my life. "If I can get through this, I can do anything." And it did. And I did. Proud to be a United States Marine, even to this day. Semper Fi.

Only 30 years for me but i feel the same as you...I can get through anything and I like a challenge . My twin brother went through OCS and served 8 yrs as an officer. We have a saying....What are they gonna do-shave our head and take away our birthday? I’ve done a lot in my life-business, farming, coaching football, hunting, etc...on many occasions (usually bad situations) some one would look at me and say. “hey, you were in the Marines so you should know what to do”. Funny thing is, they were mostly right. I defiantly learned/cultivated the habit of being able to stay calm when things were going south.

When you lack the personal drive to drive yourself, sometimes you just need a massive heavy dose of Marine Corps size discipline to to get you on a path beyond your limitations and expectations. Go Marines!!!
It’s funny some call the recruits “kids” I knew someone who was older than 2 of our drill instructor, they were harder on him.
The "old recruit" in my plt was Pvt Baylor. He was 26...Definitely had his s*** together.
I was 23 when I went through a few years ago, and I wasnt even the oldest. Our guide was 29 and when I got to SOI one of the guys in my 0341 training was 28. The DIs are harder on the older guys, but they also respect us more because we had more life experience and was able to deal with the younger guys shit and get them to not act like total retards.
I turned 25 at MCRD San Diego. I was the oldest recruit in the platoon and I had a BS degree also. Yes, I was singled out in mostly a good way-more was expected of me. The fit hit the shan when my senior DI (SSgt. Chester) found out that my identical twin brother was a Marine 1st Lt. I remember getting stressed out in the duty hut and he asked why I didn’t tell any one that my identical twin brother is a Marine Corps officer and I said that no one had ever asked me...he told me to get the F@#k out of my duty hut.

My Drill Instructor was in this Video. He was honestly so motivating and he'd always say shit to make us laugh, and then punish us for it.

The first two weeks of Marine Corps boot camp (first phase) can only be described as being dropped in a blender. Just total chaos.
Very confusing, constantly sweating, and constantly out of breath. By the time you fall asleep, it seems like it’s time to wake up again.
Second Phase was when you actually felt like a Marine. The Drill Instructors are still rough, but not the psychos they were in First Phase. The main thing any recruit in Second Phase talks about (if you’re a Hollywood Marine like myself) in the late 80s are the humps. The hump up Mount Motherfucker was the main hump. They don’t use that mountain anymore after people kept dying from heart attacks humping it.
That being said, I absolutely loved being in Third Phase. You’re in the best shape of your life. Going to the quarterdeck is more of an annoyance than anything. The Drill Instructors are not psychos at all anymore. They’re just assholes now.
By Third Phase, my DIs were actually funny and always tried to test your bearing. They will try to make you laugh, but you’re gonna be on the quarterdeck or the pits if you do laugh. You’re basically drilling most of the time because the DIs want to win Final Drill.
But yeah, as someone said, you get out of boot camp totally motivated to run through a wall.
You lose all that motivation once you get to the Fleet and deal with the silly “games” and burn happy NCOs that had absolutely no leadership skills.
The fleet was a total letdown compared to boot camp. Boot camp set the bar pretty high. Boot camp was an EXPERIENCE. The Fleet felt more like a dead end job. It was pretty much forgettable.
And I’m speaking as a someone who was in Operation Sharp Edge (Liberia, Africa), Desert Storm, and then Cold Weather training at the Arctic Circle.
I have four rows of ribbons in only one tour, yet the most exciting time I had was in boot camp. The other three years and nine months was basically doing dumb and soul draining 🐴 💩.
I’m a proud (former) Marine. Good experience, but four years was more than enough. Heck, I would have gotten out after two years if I could have.
There’s a reason why the Marines has the lowest re-enlistment rate. I heard only 25% of Marines reenlist. The rest would rather take their chances in “the real world” than do another second in the Marines. I know most of us were counting down the days until we get out (“the wake up”) as if we were prisoners.
They don’t call it “the suck” or the “green weenie” for nothing.
I got out of the Marines in 1992 and never once regretted that decision.
But yeah, Marine Corps boot camp was a life changing experience. Everything after that? Not so much.

I was watching the Black Friday bit when I realized that my Black Friday was exactly 11 years ago today. I don't remember a lot of the details but I remember not having fun.
LOL... Mine was 24 years ago... Back then there was no RUclips to watch videos and know what I was getting into. I thought the receiving barracks was it, one Drill Instructor... I was like "This ain't that bad". Then Friday came... holy hell. Looking back now I have fond memories, but going through it sucks ass, as you know.

Toughest training cycle. October-January. I witnessed the recruits away from home for the first time, during the holidays, in the winter. It really tested them physically and mentally. Bootcamp is tough year round but the winter cycle is different.
I’m generally used to the freezing cold but it would be hell to have boot camp in the hot sun
Lol, I will be leaving to boot camp next month for the winter cycle. But, I already am 1,000 miles away from home since August. So, I am kind of fine with being away from home much longer. Let's say college didn't work for me, and I don't have anything left to do, I got nothing back home, nothing here, and I just want to find my purpose, or at least find where I stand in life.
@@Jay_Pell04i went through the winter cycle back in 2018-2019. It wasn’t too bad but it did rain a lot and actually snowed a couple times. Missing Christmas- new years and even valentines did suck but while your in there you have bigger things to worry about so it’s not to bad. Have fun and keep your head up. It’s honestly a great time and you will enjoy it if you have a good attitude about it. Remember nothing is personal from the Drill Instructors it’s all to get you into the shape and mental form you need to be to sucede in your career!

@@Jay_Pell04 i went to San Diego. It’s beautiful both there and in Camp Pendleton but the hills do suck when hiking. Nothing compared to actual infantry training but it was definitely a shock to me when I first started. I do highly recommend you begin hiking with weight and speed as well as hills.
I did it - 1986 - Parris Island - 3rd Batallion - Platoon 3062. I probably weighed 140 lbs. soaking wet back then so you don't have to be some kind of super athlete to go. You just have to have a good mindset and take it day by day and be motivated to get through and you will make it. The guys that quit along the way - I feel sorry for them because I bet they never live that down. There was no way in hell I was not making it. Then you get to the Fleet (03 MOS here) and you realize Boot Camp was a cake walk. Then the real works starts. Changed my life for the better and once you are in, you are in for life and no one can take that title away from you. Not a lot of people can claim the title so go for it! Semper Fi - Do or Die!
Team week was awesome I went to supply twice for the recruit px and got to talk to my then fellow recruits
Shit I slept like a baby at receiving week, we had Ssgt Micheal B. Jordan (Ssgt Smiley) as our receiving drill instructor. Still miss him to this day.
I had at absolute flippin TYRANT during receiving week...I couldn’t WAIT to get picked up and get the hell outta there. Our days in receiving were about 0400 to 2200- horrible. I got more sleep after I left receiving. I fully admit that we had it easier than other platoons in Alpha Company Follow Series; we were the last platoon for our SDI before he went to Warrant Officer School....he went light on us as long as we didn’t mess up. He would send his green belts away on fridays and stay with us all weekend, it was incredibly nice....you just get through the week so you get senior on the weekends. He didn’t show up one friday because we messed up all goddamn week- we acted right from then on.

How was boot camp overall?
The drill intructor that cam on the bus is in my opinion the nicest. Reason being is that that i was gonna go to mrp which means my grad date was going to pushed back. So this man tells me to "never give up and be proud of yourself, when you become a marine, you be proud of your accomplishments." There was more but you get the point.

Going to boot camp this next week on Monday ( Jan. 11th ). Im very nervous but very excited at the same time. Covid restrictions will make it different but I will push through.

I was Parris Island (I graduated 30 October 2020; 1st BN, Alpha Co, PLT 1077), but damn, was getting on the yellow footprints to the parade deck in dress blues an experience. Where are you going to San Diego or Parris Island. My son left today for Meps then off to San Diego. He's 2nd Marines with Golf Company. Iam one proud Dad to say the least. To be honest iam proud of every young man that's 18 and signs that dotted line. Most young plp don't realize there is a great side to that coin and that's the brotherhood the other side of that coin is your signing that you will give your life to protect your brother and sisters thats in the Corp and every American that lives a simple simplistic life in this Free Country. 3 miles and 2 min for crunches and for pull ups it is till you drop (if you max crunches and pull ups you can take it easy on the run) you can also search up the scores for the pft. You also have to do the cft which is a 880 run, ammo can lifts, and you have to do another run with other implements.
I regret telling my di who handed my ega that the hardest part of bootcamp was receiving week... I felt like what told him was that he didn't do his job correctly when he was my knowledge hat who taught us about about everything we needed to know.

The DI at 14:08, i remember him counting my pull ups for the pft, I counted 20, we said he counted 9, I was pretty upset needless to say.

Advice for you, figure out why your going and/or set a goal for you to have the week you are on leave so you can do that and get to your goal. That helped me a lot in bootcamp
