Remember when Heidfeld was a freshman in F1 around 2000? He was racing in Alain Prost's team, and his teammate was Jean Alesi. They crashed into each other a few times, and since only one mistake like that is enough to be fired, Nick did not get a seat for the 2001 season by Prost. He was preceeded by last year's Minardi driver, the argentinian Gaston Mazzacane. Guess how many races did Gaston complete in Prost-Acer...
Fun fact that Mazzacane's former teammate, Marc Gené later became Ferrari's 3rd driver for years, but Gaston never made it back to F1.
Back to Heidfeld, it seems that Prost was proven wrong later about him.

The Enstone team have had a reputation for getting through drivers as well. Take 1994 for example, the team had Michael Schumacher, Jos Verstappen, JJ Lehto and Johnny Herbert driving the cars at some points in the season. For the most part, it was to find someone to drive the second car, whilst Schumacher was winning races and going for the title. When Schumacher was serving his 2 race ban in late 1994, neither Lehto nor Verstappen could get anywhere close to the performances Schumacher was capable of (in Monza they qualified P10 and P20 with Lehto finishing P9 and Verstappen DNFing in the race and Portugal they qualified P10 and P14 with Verstappen finishing P5 in the race and Lehto spinning out of the race). It showed the short comings of having drivers incapable of matching the lead driver of the team and was probably why Benetton lost the Constructors Championship to Williams that year

I'm surprised Heinz-Harald Frentzen being dropped from the Jordan team in 2001 isn't even an honorable mention...
Other than that, this is a solid list and the number one spot is exactly the one I would have picked.
Also, another honorable mention would have been the (as far as I know) only double-dump (or maybe chain-dump would be a better term) within one season: In 1994 the Benetton team dropped J. J. Lehto after the Canadian GP in favor of Jos Verstappen and Verstappen himself got dropped from the team in the same season after the Euopean GP, with Johnny Herbert replacing him for the remaining two races.

Rene Arnoux: Let go by Ferrari after the first race (Brazil) of the 1985 season and replaced by Stefan Johansson, whose career at Ferrari was considerably less successful. Arnoux won 3 times for Ferrari and won 7 races total. In 1984 he finished sixth in the championship, which compares well to his team mate Michele Alboreto, who finished fourth. On paper, there was no reason for his dismissal (called a mutual separation at the time). There was no speculation as to why this happened, just general silence, which always made me wonder if something which had nothing to do with his driving was at the root of it all. I wonder if there is still a story to be told.
