The Best Looking F1 Cars Of All Time

- Опубликовано: 7 июн 2024
- It's a debate as old as Formula 1 itself - which F1 car is the best looking? Throughout the last 70 years we've seen some real beauties, as well as some cars we'd rather we hadn't... but this time we're focussing on the top 10 cars we'll never get tired of looking at, ranging from more recent modern icons all the way back to the classics in the 50s.
Thanks to Duke Archives for footage from their documentary "If You're Not Winning... You're Not Trying", following the Lotus team behind the scenes in 1973 as they win the Constructors Championship. To see more of this, check out the full documentary here:

2004 or 2002 Ferrari is literally "the F1 car" for any kid who grew up in the 2000s because of how iconic they look
For everyone I would say
They are like an Icon of formula 1
The MP4-20 for me was way more iconic with the viking wings, west livery and was arguably the fastest F1 car in 2005. Sadly, reliability was a different story.
It has to be for me the Renault R25 from the 2005 season. Growing up as a kid during the 2000s in Spain, that car is an icon by himself here.
The West McLaren's
Adrián Peñate I love the blue and yellow livery of the Renault’s of that era
0:36 you better watch your mouth the brawn from 2009 was a beautiful car
all the cars except the 2014 were beatiful
The 2012 McLaren was gorgeous, the 2009 Toyota looks cool, and unpopular opinion I think the RedBull liveries are nice they're like the modern day equivalent of the FW14B and just as dominant in the 2010-2013 period
2011 red bull is one of my favourite looking cars
@ROB112 the 17 one looks the best but results wise mehhhh
I was just about to say that, also the McLarens were quite good looking
Personally I loved the looks of the 2012 Lotus.
So was the 2013 Lotus.
Same, great color combo
Facts man
2014 lotus?
@@adamdickinson2894 Cool color scheme in weird looking car.
I always loved the Buzzing Hornets of Jordan around the turn of the millenium.
Agreed. Best looking cars of the era without a doubt! Not many can pull Yellow off, it they did it incredibly well
I like the Buzzin' Hornets but the best overlooked Jordan was the 194 which was by far the best performing of the blue Jordans and harked back to the 191 in appearance only with (in my view) a more purposeful stance.
The Ferrari 641 will always be my favourite. Such a simple, sleek and elegant design. It's footprint is also gorgeous.
It also sounds amazing with that V12.
I don't know why but that just looks a bit too round
Elegant? Look at that Sarah Jessica Parker front end at 10:03, compared to the McLaren.
@@Orcawhale1 yeah when you look at the two together it makes the Ferrari look like a bee stung its nose
i agree, lol
Omg bro. Spot on! There's something about that car. Always has been my favorite. The 89 car is sick too
MP4-20 instead of MP4-14 all day long ... And also was expecting Marboro McLaren here. But it's subjective - 10 people have 10 different "TOP 10s"
It's to fuzzy at the back with all of the spoilers and shit, wheres the MP4-14 is alot more cleaner in back, though i find the nose abit to big, which is why i prefer the MP4-13.
List of good looking cars from what autosport refers as the “skinny era”
-Brawn bgp 001
-Mclaren mp4/27
-Lotus e20
-Red Bull rb9
-Williams fw37
-Ferrari sf15t
-Mclaren mp4/30 (black version)
-Mercedes w07
Mr. Charizard The 2016 manor
09 and 13 ferraris as well, ans 2012 mclaren
Thank you.
They really hated the skinny era because seb dominated in it
Basically all 2009 cars and almost all 2010 cars looked beautiful. 2011 had also most cars beautiful, but 2012 were ugly.
I think the Ferrari and McLaren from 2008 should be on the list.
Same with 2017-2019 ones. This video was made by (or for) old nostalgic people
they looks like space ships
or ferrari from 2004
Both teams made a better looking car in *2007* imo.
Yeah, the Vodafone era produced some amazing looking McLarens.
As for Ferrari, i think their hayday were in 02-04.
The 08 Ferrari is to fuzzy with the front spoilers and ect.
Glad to see the Ligier finally being recognised. A thing of beauty
Well said! The 1980 ligier was gorgeous 👍
The flying teapot would have been better
The 2008 BMW-Sauber with the front winglets
Yees, almost science fiction F1 Gorgeous !
Have that car on my desk at work. so sexy.
The 2007/2008 era had some awesome design . They should have made the list
Literally anything between 2000 and 2013 (excluding 2012) should have made the list.
All of the 2007-2008 cars looked cool heck even the spyker looks sick
You are joking about not bothering with 09-16 cars. You call those the skinny cars, yet include the MP4-14... what about Brawn, Red Bull RB7, Mclaren MP4-27
Yeah colouring were great at those.
my fav is Ferrari2013 from that era.
But those features kinda ruined still.
Looks like I'm not alone. I too liked that era except for 2014. My favorite was the 2013 Lotus.
Yes the 2012 was soooo sexy best car looking car of 09- 16
Exactly! This isn’t a top 10 best cars.
Also. Have to focus on all eras? Fuck right off. Every car in the 50’s and 60’s are pretty much exactly the same! So it is pointless having any of those cars. Not to mention none of them look that great...
So. Leyton House, McLaren MP4/4 and it’s followers, as well as anything with a high nose, most of which weren’t that bad, missed out. Force India has the best looking “Skinny” cars in the mid 2010’s with the nostril and black, silver and orange livery, and should have a mention.
This video is ridiculous!
TrackMania Racing I was about to comment this. I first got into F1 around that time and the Ferrari F2012 and the 2012 Lotus are some of my favorites. Something about that high step-down nose. Too good
The Ferrari F2004 was just classic F1 for me and has a special place in my heart I had a model one and always had it with my watching it on tv 🏁❤️
I might be by myself here but I think the brabham BT56 and BT52 are absolutely gorgeous
Im so glad the Eagle Weslake was in the list , those cars are stunning
Murica
@@nicklibby3784 the one time they got it right in F1... except they chose an engine supplier who couldnt match F1 rigors
1983 Brabham-BMW BT52 is missing
How can they miss out the BT52
I’d agree. And the Tyrell 019 should be on this list too. Such a pretty car.
Wow, I completely forgot about the BT52! You're absolutely right!
@@frazerguest2864 I like the 020 more than the 019. Must be the Braun livery that gets my eye
pons500 : Each to their own, what with taste being such a subjective issue. The simplicity of the Epson livery is my preference.
I also like the Ferrari 312 t2, legend Niki Lauda's Ferrari from 75-76
Its front wing was a bit weird-looking. No offence, it's still a great car.
The brawn deserved a mention and the 99 Jordan and 2012 McLaren
The McLaren looked decent (for an ugly era) but the Brown was just... Yuck... Acid green with white??? And then the HUGE ugly bulbus nose..... There are at least 50 better looking f1 cars
98 jordan was better
Totally agree on the Mclaren, looked so elegant and nimble
I don’t understand how they skipped 09-16 entirely when McLaren had some pretty good looking (and quick, if not reliable) cars in that period
well it is their takes on the best looking
Brabham BT52. Indubitably sexiest F1 car of all time, missing from this top 10.
Yes absolutely!
Imagine not including the mp4/4
I also find MP4/5 a really beautiful car.
Iconic, not pretty
@@dazleeders That's your opinion, I could say the 99 Mclaren is iconic and not pretty (personally I think the car's aero isn't good looking) but a lot of people would disagree with me. Also, I think the 72 lotus is repulsive but it's iconic
Billy Leeder Pretty means different to different people. I find great beauty in the simplest F1 designs. I personally find the cars from the last 4 years or so THE ugliest cars of all time slightly beating out the 70’s unsymmetric stylistic train wrecks
They really needed to include at least ONE dayglow McLaren... Sacrilege. I think I prefer the /8, but the /4 isn't far off.
Unpopular opinion: The SF71-H (2018 Ferrari) is really really beautiful in my opinion. (Without the MW logos of course)
not really unpopular, pretty much everyone likes the 2017 Ferrari, 2018 not sure because halo
I like the 2018 Ferrari more cus the Halo actually flows well into the shape for me. The MW didn’t make tooo big a difference to me. The SF90 is also beautiful imo
“Best looking cars of all time”
*proceeds to say that we have to cover all eras, and therefore there isn’t the 10 best looking bars of all time
The 2003 Williams will forever be my favorite.
1993 McLaren MP4/8. Very smooth lines, with perfect visual balance.
641/2 is the best looking machine ever for me.
Especially 1990 Mexican GP was one of the most exciting GP with this machine , Mansell overtook from outside against Berger , It was so fantastic.
McLaren MP4-6 was posh and elegant.
Lotus 49 from 1968 is the one for me, without Wings
Ligier JS 11/15 was my all-time favorite! Thanks for including it
I feel that the Ferrari 156 "sharknose" of 1961 should have been in the top ten, and quite high in the list, and my personal liking for the variety of solutions of the 70's F1 cars suggests also the Ferrari 312T of 1975, the last season when the big overhead air scoops were allowed.
P.S. just in case there is any doubt, I am Italian.
NOOO. The 1975 car is sooo ugly. Best Ferrari is 412 t1 or f1 75.
Let nostalgia kick in and in a few years the 2017 cars would go down as one of the best looking of all time if it weren’t for the halos it would be all the cars from the current era
I think the t wings and shark fins on the 2017 Cars look far worse than the halo, plus the halo stops drivers from dying 🙄
@@jamesrowland2002 preach
I agree, the halo isn't that bad in my opinion but the 2017 cars look amazing.
Personally i feel like the 2020 cars look coolest out of the 2017-20 cars. I just never liked the Txing on the 2017 ones.
@@Azbert-uh5sz i agree they are cool af but wayyyy too long. Which makes me exited for 2022
The Jordan 197 has a special place in my heart!
The Ferrari F2002 is one of the best looking as well in my opinion
I’m a pretty big fan of the Brabham BT46B, aka “the fan car”. Long story short, it uses a giant fan under the car to suck itself down onto the track for extra grip. As a side effect, it looked like it had a jet engine sticking out the back. The fan car won the only race it was entered in before it was banned for being brokenly overpowered.
Other teams (including Colin Chapman) throwing hissy fits because the BT46B was so overpowered in the field... that's what needs to come back. F1 has been sterilized through the years...
One car that will always stand out for me are two Arrows. The A19 & the A23. But also the Williams FW18 & FW19.
The John Player special is one of the best things that came to F1 and the car just made it more special
Brabham BT52, 2017 Toro Rosso, 2004 Ferrari, McLaren MP4/4, there's so many, this is a hard list to make
Lotus 78 has always been my favorite.
This video has been made looking through rose tinted glasses imho
That's the whole point.
I believe the Brabham BT49 and the Ferrari 312T3 are gorgeous cars as well.
I’ve always preferred the Lotus 78 to the 79. Maybe only because I had a 1:12 scale model of it with working suspension and steering. Gorgeous car.
I had one too. A plastic model from Tamiya, put together myself. What was yours?
With u on that. The 'nostrils' really made it gorgeous
A Brabham has to be in this list. Gordon Murray is a genius. But clearly BT52 instead of BT45. The 1983 Brabham had everything : 1) beautiful and original 'arrow' design 2) incredibly fast and a world champion car 3) iconic Parmalat livery, both in white and blue versions.
Senna's Mclaren MP4/8 from 1993 is the single most beautiful F1 car to have ever existed until now. Period.
Hes right, the Leyton House indeed deserves to be on this list. And fkn mad shout out to the couple low budget teams that made it here.
I'd have a hard time trying to make this list.
There's just one car I can draw from the ground up by heart - the Tyrrell P34. For me, that's iconic!
Especially the first years shape, those small wheels behind the front and the cool blue with yellow stripe.
@@desmondtreherne4214 Absolutely! The first year's look was the best.
Ferrari 312T was an iconic, unique and in my view beautiful car. Also fancy both the Williams FW07 and 08. I can understand why the editors went with their list however.
Where tf is the Brabham BT52
Lancia D50- Best looking F1 car of 50s, much better than alfa
I’ll always love the ground effect cars of the late 70s and early 80s, they are my favourite f1 cars. Especially the Ligier js11/15 and the Lotus 79
Well my List would look a litel bit different
10: Mercedes W196
9. Mercedes F1 W05 Hybrid
8. Ferrari 156
7. Tyrrell 006
6. Lotus 49
5. Benetton B186
4. Mclaren M23
3. Lotus 97t
2. Lotus 78
1. Ferrari 641
Renault R25 and R26 are the most beautiful cars in F1 history.
The R25 i can agree on, but the R26 with it's yellow spoilers in the front are extremely ugly, especially when your driving the car in cockpit view.
i like the 2003 one. more than R25/26.
Reanult R25 2005
My dad worked in the auto emissions industry and was an amateur racer. Got to hang out in the lotus pits with Ronnie Peterson. That lotus 72 was always his favorite. I bought him a canvas print of it for his birthday.
Nothing past the 2000 season✅
Come on, there have definitely been some amazing looking modern cars from 2000-2019.
Not enough people mentioning the Alonso era Renaults. Maybe I am partial to the yellow/blue liveries because the early 90s Williams are also some of my favorites
I don´t really like the Lotus 79 to be honest. But looks are really a taste thing, i mean there are people that say the F2012 looks good.
That Ferrari wouldn't have been as ugly if the nose wasn't as wide as it was.
The 78 looked so much better imo
I prefer the 95 over the 79
The 2007 Honda Earth Livery was absolutely gorgeous, and deserves much more credit than it gets.
Ferrari F2007 or Ferrari F2008 without the shark fin deserves to be in this list, in my opinion. The dark red coupled with the barcode livery and all the winglets and aerodynamic devices where form-and-function go well together made it really look gorgeous. It was also a nice tribute to over the body aerodynamics before it got outlawed for 2009.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I really loved the Williams 2019 chassis. I also think the Halos on modern F1 cars look fantastic.
You forgot the Alpha Tauri AT01
Easily the Ferrari 643 of 1991 for me. Not a very succesful and quick car by any means, but simply and utterly beautiful.
Williams FW07 (1979), Ferrari 312T2 (1976), McLaren MP4/19 (2004), Tyrrell 006/2 (1973), Lotus 78 (1977). I totally agree with the Lotus 79 on #1, though… 👍🏻
What about the 1950's Mercedes cars?
I see a bit of favouritism to the Jordan 191 at auto sport. Always find a way to include it in every video
This channel is underrated.
1967 Lotus 49, 1978 Ferrari 312T3, 1982 Ferrari 126C2, 1988 McLaren MP4/4
I like the ‘65 and ‘78 Lotuses.
1:24 Apparently Ligier started underperforming after those two races because they lost a PIECE OF PAPER that had the ideal car setups written on it! Imagine if they hadn’t lost it 😂
ATS599 Haha no problem! I saw it in a book called The Power and the Glory. It’s about the Senna/Prost rivalry mainly but it also talks about other drivers/teams of the period and it mentioned that story about Ligier 😂 it’s great read
I've always had a soft spot for the Williams FW08, especially when it was running without the front wing. It looked clean and aggressive. I think that the McLaren MP4-13 had a slight edge over the "14," but it's all subjective.
Keke's car from 1982??? Never thought I'd see someone consider THAT thing good-looking. Now, the FW07...
@@JCCyC the early 80s cars were ugly, they looked like boats without the front wing
my favourite f1 car is the lotus 98t, but i also really like the brabham bt52
I've always loved the Ferrari 312T (1977 season) and the Ferrari 126 C2 (1982 season). Another beautiful car that always gets overlooked is the Alfa Romeo 185T (1985 season).
Arrows A2 HANDS DOWN
5:06 I disagree, that Benetton is absolutely gorgeous 🤩
Agree, B192 - B195 are the best imo, with the - although controversial - the B194 on the throne, due to the fresh and beautiful livery.
puke
@@KTLam B194 is my favorite too, for the very same reasons.
I really like the '76 Ferrari 312t
I disagree with almost everything said here lol
Good list. Some of these cars are in my die cast collection. However, how could you possibly overlook the 1961 "Sharknose" Ferrari? It's number 1, IMO.
pretty awesome that some of the manufacturers from the very beginning are still racing today.
great picks. definitely some good looking machines.
A really pretty one that doesn't seem to get much love is the Arrows A19. Love the black paintjob and curvy lines.
Unpopular opinion: The *McLaren MP-22* driven by *Alonso & Hamilton* is the most beautiful F1 car *ever.*
The Benetton B188 is one of the most underrated cars in regards to aesthetics. A thing of beauty!
puke
it looked chunky and not in a good way
Think Graham Hill’s Shadow DN1 should be on the shortlist
All the JPS Lotus cars amazing but I've always had a soft spot for the 88 😍😍
The 2019 Williams ROKiT car was one of the best looking cars sadly not on the performances
The 641 doesn't look great imo, the Leyton House should've taken that spot
Great list! So many to chose from...The 1961 Ferrari 156 could've easily made the list
I am surprised that you didn't include the Ferrari 156 sharknose, such a distinctive iconic design
I suspected the Brabham BT-52 was going to be left out of this list. And a grounds effect car as the #1 just shows how fundamentally wrong this list is.
The Shadow Dn11 was the worst car of 1980, but one of the best looking in f1 history in my opinion.
1983 Brabham BMW BT52 with the Parmalat livery and last year's 2022 Ferrari F1-75
Great list. All the people complaining or disagreeing, should compile the data and make their own video. I love that someone could put in tons of research, then another person sitting at home watches a short video and immediately thinks they “could” have done better.
bruh, early af
My list:
1. 1990 Ferrari
2. 1986 Williams
3. 2003 Williams
4. 2003 McLaren
5. 2012 McLaren
6. 2004 Ferrari
7. 1994 Benetton
8. 2004 BAR
9. 1981 Williams
10. 2004 Sauber
MP4/8 is my all time favourite
Every F1 cars from the early 90s looked gorgeous
Here are my personal favorites:
Minardi 191&191b
Modena Lambo291(look up a picture of the car and see why)
Scuderia Italia Dallara F191
Larousse LC90
No Lotus 25? The classic Lotus green and yellow with a sleek look.
Great video. But damn the amount of ads in the vid.
As far as eras go the rear engined wingless cars such as the Repco Brabham were my personal favourites but the late 80s / early 90s pre underslung front wing cars (thanks Beneton for stuffing that look up) were pretty for the most part too.
The Shadow DN5 which ran in the 1975 season was so fascinating: it was a good car, it had a beautiful livery and the whole team had an aura of mystery, so I think it should have made your list
Hmmm the BAR Honda from 2004 or the Jordan EJ11 should be on the list...
Btw the FW14 (B) and the MP4-14... My heart is melting 😍
Good choice. Of course there are many other good looking cars. I always was a fan of Brabham. BT45 was cool but I loved BT46 and and the following cars with parmalat livery. Best thing was the dark blue window 👌
As a young guy, the car I always looked for watching F1 races on TV was the Tyrrell P34 6-wheeler. Not only its special feature, but also its dark blue colour of the elf livery was the embodiment of technical progressiveness and its beauty. Looking back, though, I like the older Tyrrell 003 even better, which I couldn't really experience due to lack of F1 media presence in its time and my own age.
By the way, I would never have preferred the F 641, which is just a red lozenge on wheels with wings attached, over the McLaren MP4/5, that wore the livery that had the colours of victory through most of the eighties (and of the cigarettes I used to smoke). But I like the 4/6 and 4/7 even better, anyway.
But aside this little dissent, I like this video very much and give it a big thumbs-up. 👍Thanks! 🙂
Brabham BT-52 and -52B needed to be on this list
MP4-20 my fav so beautiful and MP 4/4 second for its simplicity without doubt and being Irish ☘️ the Jordan 191 was so beautiful with that green livery
