I recently went through a rough spot in singing, and these videos got me out of it! Back to my high baritone (C#2-A4-C#5) range and more blood curdling screams than ever before. This dude is legit and so is his information.
@@chrisliepe Chris allow me to ask this. Basically to do the scream, you know the voice crack one you basically have to think like to sing both in chest and head at the same time but without mixing and doing that basically falls into the fry scream
Why does everyone have to be so negative just because your miserable doesn’t mean you have to put some rude comment and I know this year sucks but not Everything that comes out of everybody’s mouth has to be about 2020 PERIOD!!!
I've gotten better at singing just from watching your free videos. I can't wait to be able to afford your full course. Someday, my friend. Someday I'll be a paying student.
This video from up (head voice) to vocal break is definitely working better with me then the other one based on starting from down and moving to vocal break through chesty belting. Maybe is because from falsetto you leave out by default a lot of tension, as you said Chris. Also, this video is extremely useful to learn to sing like Einar Solberg, who continuously jumps from falsetto to cracked/almost-screamed vocals (and sometimes goes into a very black metal-ish scream).
This totally helped me find it. I've been singing for pretty long, but have never found a good way to add grit or distortion without choking on it until finding Chris here.
Awesome tip, I need to try it out! I discovered that when I sing the high notes calmly and quietly the vocal fry starts to vibrate even more and I get amazing grit without any tension.
I joined a band 2 months ago as a guitarist and it occured that we can't find vocalist soo bandmates chose me to sing... and here you came as my last resort to help me not to sound like a complete garbage, thank you for your videos!
Amazing tip Chris! Than you very much it helped instantly!!! I have being following you for a while and with this one video I manage reduce my "enter to scream time" from half an Hour to less than A MINUTE! wow, simply amazing tip again thak you very much for everything you are THE BEST aggressive vocal coach!!! #1
This guy is so passionate about what he’s doing! It’s extremely useful to have people who teach like that! Let’s say that you’d do vocal lessons, how much would you charge like what 100$ a lesson🤔?
I would love to see you do a video on Maria Brink (In this Moment) or Lzzy Hale (Halestorm)!! We just got a bunch of Halestorm songs on Rock Band and I want to be able to get her voice right 😂 we're a competitive family.
Love your stuff Chris! As usual very unique approach yet effective and actually applicable in my case at least which says a lot trust me! ;) You are the best on RUclips who can physically show hot to get that broken up sound with little chance of damaging one's voice!
It would be amazing if you did like, a vocal analysis on Ronnie Radke, Benjamin Burnley, and my absolute favorite, Chris Motionless! Those are the three singers I'd like to someday be able to sound like/have the ability to make the sounds they do.
Your tutorials have helped a lot! I'd love to see a video about Ronnie Radke, cause he seems a very versatile singer, from screaming, to chest, mix or even falsetto
Today I was experimenting with screaming and I discovered that for me there is a very specific sensation in my nose passage that when it happens I feel it gets kind of easier for me to add grit on my voice. It seems that the grit noises resonates better when I direct it to the top of my nose.
Thank you, Chris! Useful stuff. Trying it out already. I've had a different voice prior to a surgery and a subsequent loss of any singing voice for years. Getting it back together now and benefiting a lot from your channel. Is it possible to have a lesson with you? I do need some guidance. Thank you!
Awesome videos Chris!! I've always looked up to these rock/metal singers and i wanted to understand how they use their voices and what goes into it, but i never could know because no one was there to explain it or talk about it. Then you came along with these analytic videos which is great. M Shadows is my personal favorite and recently in their 2016 album he changed his technique, i believe he said he uses his "head voice" a lot more now and uses his chest only when he needs it. Could we maybe see a part 2 on M Shadows's new technique?
Have you ever considered making a reaction to the song "Demolition" by Slaughter to prevail ? This song is all over the internet, I'd like to hear your take on the vocalist's techniques
Please do Lewis De Jong from Alien Weaponary! You will love to hear his voice he's only 18 years old especially the song Blinded and Whispers Please Please Please Chris!!
Hey Chris Been bugging you about this in the comments. I apologize. But Can you Please Examine Rob Zombie vocals from White Zombie's albums "La Sexorcisto" and "Astro-creep 2000"?......Please.....you cant understand a damn thing he's saying but what he does with his voice is really cool and stands out as unique. I would love it if you could do a video where you sit down and pick out little parts to break down how he is using his voice to get that signature White Zombie deep growly sounding voice. I'm sure there other Rob Zombie fans that would click on the video.
When my voice cracks it actaully hurts rather than it engages false chords. And no, I'm not trying to do the cookie monster lol it's just that the break hurts. Is it me or normal?
funny thing is that cookie monster is miles closer to actual false cords. This video is all about fry screams, not false cords. There's at least 3-4 signs it's a fry scream, not false cords
I don’t really use those terms as all aggressive singing utilized the false cord area. An no screams really utilize vocal fry. But I’ve done tons of videos on screaming and even a whole course on it!
i have a problem, sometimes when i try to found my false folds i feel a little bit of pain but it comes upper my vocal folds, it means that I'm pushing much air, or I'm using my vocal folds?
So I can get to that break, but my volume goes down drastically while the tone of it is distorted. Would I tense up my core? Anytime I try to put more air into a scream it ends up just cracking my voice and I lose it :)
I know exactly what you’re talking about. Make sure you warm up head, chest, then a clean mix, then add distortion. I had and still have that problem sometimes, and i think it’s because I wasn’t warmed up or supported enough, even though it didn’t hurt.
When I attempt this,it feels like a "buzzer" imitation behind my nose( especially in higher notes)which is helped by the root of my tongue placing it there. Is this the correct feeling?Cause its gritty but sounds way less cooler than yours!
I do not get, how I can scream in a low pitch. (Like Corey Taylor often does) I can get to my break at low pitch, but when pressing air out, it kinda disappears. I do everything like a high pitch scream, but it does not work :(
While there are many techniques that are available to healthily scream in low and high pitch, Corey Taylor’s technique (at lest on the first two albums) isn’t as healthy for your vocal chords. A lot of times you’ll see his voice starting to give out live if he pushes too much because instead of a healthy technique sometimes he’s literally just yelling. Corey is pretty hard to mimic.
@@bruhstevens1648 Thanks for the answer! Yeah his screams in for example "Left Behind" sound so amazing, but if you really want a scream like corey, it does not work in a healthy scream. Corey is one of my iconic singers, so good clean vocals and the aggressive singing is full of emotions.
Thanks a lot, I think I’ve found the light distortion between the break, my only issue is if I sustain the light distortion, it starts to hurt, I would really appreciate any help/advice

That might be a neat place to add some resonance, but the primary resonance is coming from our false cord area.
