The Crown of Scotland and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth arrive at Scottish Parliament October 2021

- The Royal 6th Opening of The Scottish Parliament took place on Saturday 2nd October 2021.
The Crown of Scotland was escorted from it's home at Edinburgh castle by an Escort to the Crown. This escort was led by 2-SCOTS Pipes and Drums and F Company of the Scots Guards. The crown was carried in Rolls Royce 1 under the watchful eye of it's custodian The Duke of Hamilton.
A short while later our monarch Queen Elizabeth arrived in her Bentley from Holyrood Palace just a few hundred yards down the road. She was accompanied by her son The Duke of Rothsay (Prince Charles) and his wife Camilla. They were met by the Lord Provost of Edinburgh Frank Ross.
This footage was taken by my friend Peter Adams. He is too polite and didn't think to ask folks to move their heads out of the camera! He also used a tripod. I prefer my monopod! I'm just down the road a wee bit from Pedro.

This Beautiful Traditional Ceremony of the Opening of Parliament represents how honorable it is to serve as a law maker. Since the work they do and the laws they make are representative of the voices of the people. Queen Elizabeth I of Scotland presence shows her deep sense of duty and support not only to the Scottish Parliament but also to the Citizen's of Scotland.
In 2021 this type of ceremony is a rarity.
So grateful for the Scottish Guards and the Queen's presence as it is an example of Democracy at work!

I often wonder how they can shout so loud and why they do it. The shouted commands are seldom understandable for me on the one side and I am also concerned for the voice of the commander whom has to shout constantly. Not to talk about the wind which is always present in Edinburgh. It can really effect the voice. And more cheers for the Queen upon arrival than in Wales. Good.

The public was impressed by the shouting orders and during this moment nobody talks but applauding the Scot regiment at the end. That's the result of a good job. You get respect for the British army and UK by this way. It was perfect. Carry on, boys.

@@sebstrong9815 While I have not given this topic much thought in the past, a quick look around the internet suggests that for purely convenience sake, she is Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom even though technically, the United Kingdom has only ever had one Queen Elizabeth (regnant). But, since Charles goes by an entirely different title while in Scotland, I would imagine there is a more formally correct title for the Queen as well though I have not discovered it. I'm sure there have been lots of political discussions on the topic but most likely held privately as I have not discovered those either. I recently discovered, through DNA testing that I am almost one third Scottish by ethnicity. I was completely unaware of any Scottish in my ancestry until I got the test back so it was a bit of a surprise. Not being a citizen of Scotland I don't regard my opinion on the topic as particularly meritorious but I do have one and it is that since James was referred to as VI in Scotland and I in England why not apply the same type of numbering to Elizabeth and call her Elizabeth I of Scotland and II of England? I'm sure the people of Scotland have their own particular and more credible views on the topic.

I've looked into it some more. ITS HIDEOUS! It looks like a hodge podge of quirky modernist buildings thrown together (that's not to say all modernist architecture is bad, or modernist design cannot lend itself to a national state house). It looks like the only people who like it are the architectural community (of course they would!). Why did they pick a Spanish architect to design it? What a slap in the face to Scottish architects.

The real crown is held in the Bank of Scotland the copy is used for the opening of parliament and is also in the castle for people to view.

These soldiers show that the British Army is among the best in the world. Sadly our US Army troops are marginal when marching and look rather sloppy. Often they march without their rifles. I think it may be because they have lowered the standards of enlistment., - ex Sgt. US Army

When you have an all volunteer army you take what you can get and try not to treat your army too harshly lest they choose not to re enlist. When you have a mostly drafted army you get everyone and you don't have to be as nice about it because they are in until the job is done period.
Marching might as well. Be dancing for all the military good it does.

I can't say enough how stupid it is in British public events that a couple of unarmed cops in hi-vis seem to be required to provide "security" for platoons of Britain's extremely well-trained armed forces who clearly can handle themselves in a combat situation let alone a couple of unruly civilians who might make a fuss..........

They are for crowd control. Disciplined crowds only need a handful, others are out of camera shot controlling traffic movement and people, the rest are down the station having a brew just in case. Leave would have probably been cancelled for that day. Just because you can't see them, doesn't mean they are not there. Including armed police. Those soldiers are performing ceremonial duty, not hand to hand combat in a war zone. Different uniform, head wear and ammo in magazine.

She is the Head of State of 16 countries so can open parliament in any of those, as well as in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. 4. My mother was widowed at 37 and never sought a new mate. She was a one man woman. I'm guessing her Majesty is likewise. In any case, there are very few 95 year old widows who go seeking romance, especially recent ones.

An elected President could still have all the pomp and ceremony, not just a bauble. Then we have an unelected Head of State graciously allowing elected representatives to sit and make make laws, which she and her successor (again un-elected) can amend with another medieval quirk of history called "Royal Assent". This archaic rule has been used by the Windsor´s to suit their financial gain.
