- Saturday 29th June 2019 saw the 20th anniversary of The Scottish Parliament.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth was in town for Royal Week, staying in Holyrood Palace.
The Crown of Scotland was taken from Edinburgh Castle by luxury limo guarded by The Duke of Hamilton and The Scots Guards.
The Scots Guards P&D played the 20 minutes from Edinburgh Castle down the Royal Mile to The Scottish Parliament Building.
Due to Heilan Laddie being blocked in 240 countries (why?!) I have had to remove that song from the VT .. sorry.

The best part is, if you've ever seen The Queen talking about Her crown, it's totally believable She would refer to it as such.
@LaMortEtLamour That speech she reads out is entirely written for her by the Government of the day. She is reading out their agenda. She might privately disagree with every word of it. But she would never show it.
@LaMortEtLamour I don't need an example. It is a weekly audience and it is a courtesy. The Prime Minister of the day, whoever it is, meets the Queen each week that Parliament is sitting and briefs her on what is happening. Her Majesty is wise and well-versed in diplomacy and she would be able to convey much with a raise of the eyebrows, but she cannot really influence the business of Government. To do so would be unconstitutional.

I feel sorry for the the Royal family because they couldn't settle their difference. Unlike ordinary people it's kept private but the gutter press make living off their problems 🙄 😒 🙃 😑 😴

@El Bearsidente that saying comes from WW2, not The First World War. It is said it's from the North African campaign when large numbers of the Afrika Korps were taken prisoner by one of the Scottish regiments - much to their relief.
Maybe apocryphal, but it's also suggested that members of the LRDG took a piper with them to make the Germans think a while regiment of kilt-wearing psychos were about to attack them. The drone of the pipes carries on the wind far more in the desert than across no man's land on the Somme...

Mainly because Scottish regiments were always sacrificed first
It didn’t matter which branch of the military you served in, whenever the pipes started to play everyone stood that little bit straighter and marched that little bit more proudly.

Many years ago when I was doing my trade training at RAF Halton we used to march from the accommodation area to the workshops, most mornings we could hear the Apprentices brass band playing tunes as they marched down from their accommodation, but once a week they had their pipe band leading them, on those days you could see everyone marching alongside you brace up that little bit more, even the non-Scots admitted that they felt themselves march a bit taller listening to the pipes.

As a Canadian soldier in the first gulf war we served alongside the Scots Guards as guards in a pow camp that held 11,000 Iraqis in a camp built for 8.000, outstanding soldiers!

it's the old town , new town is further north , the earth they dug out after making the new town was what made the mound , the big car park in front of the Castle and runs the royal mile right up ti the front of the castle , after it's moat was drained , many moons ago , aye !

Top marks for the police work as well. I notice that the police were in control but still standing back and letting the people enjoy the occasion, without feeling restricted or intimidated. No egos on display. The British police are also the best in the world.

Discipline, pride, hundreds of years of history. The Brits do it so well, Every street they parade down is testament to the longevity of the Monachy. Look at the buildings. No highrise glass towers. Just marching through their history. Long may it continue.

Well, as I was born in Edinburgh but grew up mostly in England due to RAF parents, am I Scottish or English?!
Nothing greater than seeing soldiers marching to a Scottish band. I am so proud to be part of the Union.

My grandfather was 144th RAC in WW2, supported the 51st Highlanders and loves the Pipes, loves marching to them.... The British Army, best in the world...!! I can never get enough of listening to bagpipes, especially because my maternal grandmother was a Donaldson. Makes my blood boil and wishing I was going off to war again. As I understand the pipes, the BAGPIPE dates back to antiquity, and I can certainly see why. I have written music for the pipes and I love them so much, as well.

As a Proud Englishmen who was raised by a half English/Scottish man who had a Scottish dad belonging to the Henderson Clans - I have nothing but respect and love for the Scottish regiments in the British forces. My Sir name being Henderson gives me pride.
I’m not a Scotsman,but there is something about the squirl of the pipes that somehow runs deep in me,so emotive,strong,resolute,wonderful music.

My dad wiz a Piper in a mass band. It was awesome seeing and hearing them approach. I'm sure if anyone stood in their way they'd just be trampled and when they had passed we marched behind them... Very powerful.
LOVE LOVE LOVE that echo of the pipes, drums, and foot of the soldiers. So chilling, yet, builds an adrenaline like no other.
When the title said "Escort to the Crown", I was actually surprised to see it was, quite literally, the escort to "the Crown" and not the Queen, as I has surmised. LOL I don't care, any reason they have for playing the pipes is a good one as far as I'm concerned! :-)
The Scottish crown is kept in Edinburgh castle. It is escorted to Parliament on opening day of a session of Parliament, or when her Majesty is addressing Parliament. The senior peer, In this case His Grace the Duke of Hamilton, 'carries' the Crown to and from the Castle and actually places it in Parliament. He is the young man riding in the backseat with the crown in the limo. It's all tradition.

JC S The Dukes of Hamilton, in this case the 16th Duke, Alexander Douglas-Hamilton (age 41) are the hereditary Crown Bearers of Scotland. The title goes back to 1643.
@Talorc MacAllan The English Crown was melted down by Oliver Cromwell in 1649. Fortunately the Scottish Crown was hidden and he didn't get hold of it.

Always dreamt of marrying a Scottish man as a little girl since I saw the Movie braveheart, I fell deeply in love with the landscape of this country I still wish today I saw it in reality, let's see if dreams do really come true. The bagpipe music hits my soul.
Sorry to break this to you but Braveheart was filmed in Ireland and much of it is historically inaccurate. That said rural Scotland (in particular the West highlands) is far more much more spectacular than anything you’ll see in Braveheart.
My mother used to sing this song to me, The Yellow Rose of Texas, which has the same beat and melody of scotland playing now. It's quite similar, the Bonnie Blue is known as the Texas flag! G-D bless 🇺🇸

Overwhelming. The sound of the guards feet on the cobblestone alone is stunning. Very impressive.
I've marched a few parades, but I've only been in one parade route that was lined with buildings like this. It's amazing! Everything you play just bounces and echoes off everything around you. The music surrounds and come from every direction.
I must have bben a Scot in my previous incarnation. I so do love the Scot's pipes and drums.

The Scots Guards are an English regiment. Historically their purpose was to guard Scotland from the Scots.
@@danmaciver They are a Scottish regiment. You're getting confused with the Black Watch, whose historic role was to guard the highlands during times of lawlessness and Jacobite rebellions. The Scots Guards are one of the only Scottish regiments to recruit from across Scotland and not specific areas.
@@truefalse207 I'll stand corrected on the keeping an eye on the Scots part, that was the black watch. The regiment was raised to guard Charles 1 of England and Scotland but was only placed on the English establishment. Every other Scottish regiment wears the TOS apart from the Scots guards who wear the beret, look at the drum major, no other drummie in a Scottish regiment dresses remotely similar. Oldest regiment in the British army though and massive respect to them.
@@danmaciver There are Scots Guards, Welsh Guards, Irish Guards, Coldstream Guards & Grenadier Guards who all wear similar uniforms with subtle differences. Their main ceremonial role is protection of Royal establishments.
I love my country. We are blessed, it's fantastic to see so many people in the crowd from abroad just absorbing the atmosphere and spectacle.

I played in a brass band in the Durban Tattoo in 1986. There was also a Pipe band. What a pleasure to see then in person
My best friend lives 3/4 of a mile from the castle. I envy her. Every time they had an event like this and the Military Tattoo I'd be there filming and having the time of my life.

Tradition is an amazing thing, it links our past, present and bridges us to our future.
British soldiers marching through Scotland certainly is a tradition in a way but not a good one.

4:25 I love how the little Asian women were amazed at the sight of the marching troops. I don't blame them. I'm an American soldier myself, and I gotta hand it to the Scottish, their marching is hypnotic. Although the leading platoon is a bit more squared away than the training platoon. Thanks to the drums keeping cadence, no doubt. Aside from the US Drill Teams, our marching is quite bland compared to some countries. I would love to see this in person.

well I would beg to differ, about the marine drum and bugle core, and the soldiers of the old guard that dates to the time of the revolutionary war that guard the tomb of the unknown soldiers, as far as crispness goes, but I would say the greek changing of the guard is the most entertaining the way they step and change positions during the changing of the guard, and not just the traditional clothing they wear or the long skirts with a pleat for each year they were in captivity. but no one can deny the power of a scotish regement playing pipes and drums
The pipes and drums stirs my blood with sense of pride I love the sound of them there is nothing better than seeing these men marching in full uniform with the pipers and drums playing in front

@@ryanmcculloch3008 I think the problem is that RUclips's anti-copyright-violation algorithm probably matches up the tune with some particular performance of it that's copyrighted and thinks that the video has used a recording of that performance without permission. Probably works well with pop music but not so much with folk music
