Dang that Shamal looks good! It's like the Lancia Delta HF Integrale and the R32 Skyline had a baby
“Armani suit covering up a neck tattoo!”🤣😂🤣 best metaphor of the video!!
I was hoping he'd go somewhere like that and wasn't disappointed.
Hagerty's been killing it recently
Some of the best car content I’ve seen.
South Africa has two cars like this that most people do not know about. The BMW E30 "333" it the rarest BMW ever, the second one is the Opel Monza Super Boss. They both have history & a story behind them.
awesome comment... worth looking these two cars up.....
Also the Sierra xr8
Yo, thanks to you i found out something that i really want now...
@@JC-zg4xe XR4i ,8 never heard of it,it fiesta xr2, escort xr3, sierra xr4
@@RUfromthe40s It was a South African homologation special for their local racing series. Basically a Sierra with a 302 Windsor and T5 box. Same as the bmw 333i mentioned in the original comment
Jersey auto enthusiast here to say thanks for the nod to an often dismissed state full of flavor for just about anyone.
Love the Maserati, perfect for the setting.
It was a pleasure making this film, literally around where I live in JC. Glad you enjoyed!
Not everyone who drove an RS Turbo dated a girl called Tracy.
Some of them dated a girl called Sharon.
But never Karen
@@CherylCold 😆lol
@@CherylCold Not true! My next door neighbours had an RS and they were Darren and Karen.
Saw the cossie in traffic this morning on my way to work and put it on my insta story! Guess I had missed this episode because someone pointed out to me that the car i saw was the one in this episode, so I looked it up and sure enough, there it was. Bonus points for the opening shots being right near my apartment
I have a book on Cosworth and their history with Ford and they claimed the Mustang is the reason the US never got the Cosworth.
The Cossie was faster, cheaper and handled better and would have took sales away from the Mustang which Ford didn't want.
that´s real , compared to the escort the mustang it´s a joke of a car
@@RUfromthe40s True. The cossie killed it on the ralle stages while the mustang just runs over pedestrians leaving car meets. 😁
@@MGRracing it´s true ,they release in europe for the first time since the 60´s the ford mustang and lot´s of people pre-ordered one but when they were on sale people just were out of their minds ,the car had a in-line 2.0L engine and the sound of the gas pedal make noise through the speakers of the sound system, off course no one wanted them ,the pre-orders were made for V8 engines not brrrrum in the speakers
Ford USA probably doubted there would be sufficient market interest to make cost of homologating it for US roads worthwhile.
I say this because the forerunner to the Escort Costworth was the Sierra Cosworth, which was hugely popular in Europe. It was massively successful on the track and still has cult status. The Sierra Cosworth, or a variation of it, was sold in the US as the Merkur XR4Ti and it never caught on with the American drivers.
@@ScramTekyes but the merkur xr4ti is nothing like the sierra cosworth!
Fascinating stuff! It must be frustrating having to wait 25 years for some of these beauties! 🤔 🇬🇧
I have always been a little surprised that brits are so enthusiastic about the escort. I remember the escort as a car that was little more than a tool. All the drivers education schools used them and the people that I knew who had them never modified them. People bought them because they were affordable transportation.I have watched alot of videos of ford meetings in the UK and it really has opened my eyes.
Everything in this video reminds me of Need for speed 2015, the setup, the roads, bridges, graffiti, cars everything. And Magnus Walker
The only good Need for Speed in years
Love the JC references. Happy to see the city being shown. JC is wonderful.
Happy you noticed :) Love living here. Pleasure to shoot here too
Also, big thanks to the Jersey City Film Commission for being so supportive of productions in the area!
Man, JC has come a long way. I was born at the Art Deco masterpiece that was the Jersey City Medical Center (specifically the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital) way back in ‘67... Evidently now it’s been redeveloped into high-end condos. JC used to be old-school Irish, Italian & African American working class. Go St Aloysius!
Id have these two cars in my garage over ANY new car honestly. Sierra Cosworth’s are super cool too!
Amazing content, just love your work Magnus you have such a great way with people and their cars... Greetings from Ireland 😎
I have been waiting for the 25 year embargo to lift to get an Escort Cosworth RS.
Every time I've heard Magnus he sounded very American but with a British accent, but in this video he really sounded British, it was refreshing
Back in a day when I was a kid in Poland, I’ve seen only one Cosworth. I remember all the kids drooling all over it.
I was always a fan of the Cosworth Sierra, but I REALLY dig the Cosworth Escort! I hoped to find a clean Merkur XR4ti here, but on the rare occasion one turns up...💲💲💲💲 That Shamal though...😍
"Shamal" sounds like a beefy Subaru boxer but better!
Why not the Alfa GTV 6 ?
Ooofff, another amazing car! 👍
Would love to see Magnus do a Lotus Carlton!
The early escorts were tough as nails. I had two 93’s, one silver more door & a red one. 😎👍🇨🇦
Great vid keep up👆
Always think on importing one of these or a Sierra Sapphire RS Cossie.
thanks for the kudos on my hometown. might sound silly, but it was good to see a Cossie and Shamal roaming the streets of my old stomping grounds.
"Armani suit covering up a neck tatoo" Best line in the video, but bang on point.
Wow love this series. Short and sweet. Make them longer more detail.
I still feel sorry you never got the 5-cyl Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo, fastest fwd car in the world then. Still the best car I’ve ever had.. 340hp from 2-litre? Yeah, for 280000km’s too… Comfy for long trips, btg8.36 round Nordschleife on that same trip
Alfa GTV looks better.
@@jareknowak8712 I disagree, especially the interior (seen the Alfa’s..?) Also even just a chipped Fiat Coupe DESTROYS a GTV on a trackday.
Also, you can easily do 400km with 4 people/luggage in the Fiat. Try that in the Alfa… 😊
@@jareknowak8712 the virgin FIAT vs the chad Alfa Romeo
I would love a review of the Fiat Coupé by Hagerty but it's probably non-existent in the US
@@JK061996 Same here 👍
Love these videos!
I love having Magnus present. Dude is a legend.
You can always count on any video with Porsche Gandalf to be well worth watching.
This was a slick video. I'd like to have heard the cars more and a shot under the hood would have been good, but as a cinematic exercise, this was great. Real car enthusiasts...being yourselves. Loved it...and I've always loved both cars.. the Shamal for its excess and the Cossy because it represents an era where Joe blow could have a peice of the rally experience.
Agree 100%!
1:02 I don't think space for AWD was the main issue, as Ford also developed the RS2000 4x4 based on the conventional Escort chassis
Was coming to say just that.
They wanted to use the platform and engine they had developed for years.
RS2000 4x4 had much simpler AWD with only viscous coupler. N ocomoarison with RS cosworth.
@@zepter00 I think you zepter, or let me call you a potman, have no much going on in your life . Wtf you’re talking about?
Executive hooligans? As embodied by Magnus Walker? Featuring that gorgeous Maser? Haggerty, keep it coming!
Lefthand drive. Manual. Awesome
This is beautifully shot.
The ye’ old Cossie (huge emphasis on the Northern British accent when you say Cossie).
Back in the 90's I had an integrale, my mate had a Cossie. 2 very different but fantastic cars. Performance wise, the integrale was slightly better on acceleration way better on the corners. I still have an integrale evo2 slightly breathed on but its not fast anymore. Life isnt about being the quickest, it's about the fun you have getting there. Edit- you could tune the Cossie engine fairly cheaply which would kill the integrale.
NEXT BIG THING !!?....this car was the big thing since day one
Love 'em both but I'd take a Lotus Carlton over either of them.
For sure. The car that government tried to ban due to the police having Nothing that could catch it.
Different beast, does a different job, the LC may have been faster on paper but a stock Cossie will get you from A to B faster unless it's all one long straight road, and lets not forget it was extremely cheap and easy to put back the 100bhp that ford asked Cosworth to remove from the road versions of the engine which made them faster than the LC. Personally I'd have one of each.
Dude, i’d LOOOOVE a Carlton, clean as can be
The cossie competed for a long time in WRC. It’s a legend for that in itself
Two of the coolest cars and cats ever!
Just so ironic I know every road you guys were on and that secret meeting spot is where so many photoshoots take place for IG lol
They actually tested the race spec engine of the Sierra boosted all the way up to 1,000hp!! And it worked!!!
They were built to be boosted and reliable too 💪🏻
@@robocop3961 must've got it right too cause the only other sport to have 1,000hp turbo 4 cylinder motors was friggin f1 in the 80s
The Shamal sure was a cool machine. Looks like a lot of fun to drive
until you have to repair it
I had both the Sierra 4x4 Cosworth and the Escort RS Cosworth, both really nice performance cars of that era. The first Escorts with the large turbo charger felt a bit like the old Saab 99 Turbo, with a lot of turbo lag, so the later models where easier to drive. The big turbo was great for tuning though ;)
Love the plate. Geezer!
Can’t wait to see more Euro imports in America!
Was surprised when Americans started importing euro cars maybe I should sell mine to an American when it becomes legal down there
Kinda suprised how much ppl in the states import euro cars :) I guess we made some good cars here.
@@jaydenvogelsang3207 dude I saw a Golf G60 Rallye at my local meet
It was imported from Italy sick as hell
@@TheNismo777 The first time I saw an Euro import was at the local meet and it was a Golf G60 Rallye
Man it looks cool as hell
@@basithph8958 Oh yeah, those are fairly rare & cool. Country golf is pretty cool one too since its a regular golf with a lift kit & syncro all wheel drive :)
Great video
I’ve ALWAYS loved the cossie. But I e never even heard of the Shamal. Super cool car.
Always loved the cosworth rs since my matchbox days as a tyke😀 I think the ‘91To ‘93 escort gt favors the cosworth which is also one of my favorite cars of all time
I love this series
my dad is big into this scene since I'm from the UK and so is he, he was around when this was the big thing, ive been lucky enough to drive a cosworth and watch my dad work on a couple and explain some of the differences between these cars and newer ones. so happy this car is getting more love what a fucking sick car. if you get the chance to drive one. take it
Man I love the vibe of the night shoot
No Maserati sound recorded.. was always the Escort
Even though we didn’t get the cosworth RS the 1988 Ford escort gt with a turbo is still pretty fun my dad’s friend had one I have a 1988 1/2 Escort GT and when I can afford it ima put a turbo on it save the old late 80’s escort gt’s there dirt cheap pretty relabel & fun as heck☁️
Interesting fact for you, in the mid 80s while for where developing the rs200 for group b they where also developing the RS1700t off the m3 escort (it looks like a weird mix of Mk3 escort and fox body mustang, i beleave it used the stearing rack of a mustang as well as a few other parts. But there where not enough cars manufactured to homologate the RS1700T for group b but it did have some success rallying in South Africa
Escort license plate says it all 👌💯❤
In 25 years you 'll get the GR Yaris.
😂😂😂 I was thinking the same...sucks.
Just in time for the petrol ban lol
Maserati has a great concept from the last years based on the shamal
I've always liked the way Maseratis have looked. Never drove one though.
Nice video! I've always been fascinated with both the Cossie and the Shamall.
What's it run? 16s in the qtr?
Beautiful cars. I can't say I would buy either but I'd like to drive them if my mate owned them. (:
I wonder if they'll do a GT-R on this show?
I adore the Escort and Sierra
Listen . Guys 2:55 Listen the next 10 Sec in Pure Motor Channel Goodies.
The hands,
The Downshift,
The Bang from the Exhaust in 3:02.
Pure perfection of a video and a car.
My uncle had one of those i Remember is was a head turner. Just the noise and the mental attitude that accompanied if you needed to overtake a car or someone would cut you off...
I know Canada got the Merkur XR4Ti and Scorpio, that was as close as we got.
This car is already a big thing in the UK huge money for a good one
I'm ready for a mk1 Focus RS when they become available.
If they are affordable enough to import.
We'll see.
The tunes!
Aww, I thought he was going to say Cozzeh 😂
Oh wth. Jersey city? Thats awesome
I recall a decade ago there was one ad for Escort Cossy left hand drive metallic blue sold in Texas.
Mike Brewer and Ant Anstead found a Cossy in the US for Wheeler Dealer. Ant changed the rear spoiler to incorporate another wing.
@@andyglastonbury6032 could the one since U.S. has strict import for these cars. Rarer is a left hand drive model.
@@jlacc1 it was defo a left hooker, but it might have been a personal import I suppose. The odd thing was that I think they found it California (who have tighter emissions standards)
@@andyglastonbury6032 I saw the video Wheeler dealer. The one I saw was located in Texas low mileage i think it mentioned German import. I guess the guy in California bought it and had it delivered to him. He mashed it up to have all that issues on the car. But the price was somewhat above 30k.
My friends all wanted 5.0 Mustangs and IROC Camaros, but I wanted a Shamal… yes they all thought I was weird and I thought they were whatever the 80’s version of “basic” was…
My dream car. One day! (The Cossie)
Magnus is the English Rick Rubin of Automobilia. Change my mind.
You mean Rick Diamond from CarBros?
:)
He was trying to buy my Shamal...LOL crazy
im surprised that america never got the vw polo GTI and honda accord type r
I my turbo'ed my 95 accord best thing I've ever done in my life! Very few expect it untill you hear my blow if valve.....
Took my pants off before hitting the play button...turns out, that was the correct decision ;-)
🤣🤣🤣
OMG that was here in Jersey that turns more heads than a Lambo! At least to us car heads
Agree 100%!
My name is Kevin... I dated a girl named Traci. Owning an RS Cossie would have made that time of my life so much better.
Legend car , legend of a bloke....
God I truly wish we got the any cosworth especially rs. Evos and stis etc. they’re all so cool man. The Japanese…. I wish they could do it again. They could. If we weren’t all regulated to keep our minds in a box you know…. For reasons. But it only applies to some countries. Tf. Anyways. Very cool series.
There’s a Cozzy in Houston that gets all the attention when parked beside Lambos and Mclarens and the likes.
that was my first purchase in the 90´s but with original finishings not a mix of all improvements(?) done on escort body ,this being the last rs 2000 escort when releasing the Focus wich made a very good job when it appeared on the rally´s ,the cosworth is a 4X4 it´s a hell of a car, maybe one of the best ever, the shamal is a few levels up not the same category. i have to say that the ford is the last car i drove in a rally and it seemed not fair to other cars, but being a ford they made it all in plastic interiors ,they should had improve a bit the interiors in the road car, in spain i saw a very old man in a very simple ford escort totally undressed of extras not even alloy wheels or a spoiler but noticed the grills on the bonnet ,had to come to the backside to see if it was an RS2000 and for shure it was but if they released the cheapest version with some extras how could a almost 90 year old man be driving a stripped version of the RS2000
SONGGGGS PLEASE
Can we do a segment on Ford cars that were actually successful race cars and are affordable ? Ford ST200/Contour SVT?
Genuinely surprised Americans are interested in these cars maybe that's the reason why prices are so high 😂
No more "Redline Rebuild" videos?
Silver is the rarest colour in RS cossie ^^
Magnus is one cool 😎 dude
I owned a milder version of this, an RS 2000. It was an amazing car.

the perfect get away car...
SSV UTE foolishly left out of the American market may have saved Holden after 100+ years of business. I personally would have got one & i hate the el-camino & the rancharo car. But the ute is a different breed. Would have been a for sure hit in the US market!
In Europe the wing is called -whales tail.
If we are legally allowed to purchase and consume recreational inhalants that have been proven to contain carcinogens or other toxins, there's no way to claim that "safety" is why any vehicle shouldn't be allowed to be legally imported and driven in the US.
Left hand drive but with an English Geezer plate on it lol(rather an English grammar on it)
My good friend Frank designed and created that rear wing!!! 🙌🏼
