    The part where you said to water a few days before taking leaves for propagation (because the mother leaf stores the water to establish roots) was eye-opening for me. I’m sure I’ve heard in other videos when to water but you gave the WHY so now I’ll definitely remember that! Thank you for a great, informative video.

      Thank you so much for watching 😊….yes once the well hydrated leaf is kept to callus after that the leaf is like a capsule of water and nutrients….this will further help the growing pup by providing everything it needs to grow healthy 😊

    Best propagation video I’ve seen, and I’ve seen a lot! Please do more videos on this topic! ❤️☺️ I am always able to grow my succulent to have little pups and roots, but once I lay them on soil, they begin to die for various reasons: not enough water, water on the mama leaf, or they simply just don’t make it off the mama to become their own plant.

I am getting frustrated with my succulents (though I am just getting started 😅) but with all the different methods available online, I am getting confuse who to follow and no one online can explain what affects the rooting. Now, I am more confident to wait for the roots to grow... 😁❤️

      Ha ha yes it’s very confusing with so much of information all around .... I initially fell for all that and ended up with transparent yellow leaves .... then I realised few leaves that fell between the pots in the dry spots were giving me more success rate than the ones I was giving so much care.Everything starts from the leaf ... the leaf is plump with water and nutrients.... it’s a like a bag pack for the new pup.... mum has stored everything in it 😂

      @LushGardener  3 года назад +1

      @@RobloxGamer12941 yes it not necessary it will only make things complicated it always better to let them root in soil directly this way they will be acclimated to soil and they know the soil and are comfortable growing in it …..in some cases after water propagation when they are moved to soil the roots just die and eventually the pups is lost ….maybe cause it couldn’t handle the change as they are very fragile

Ihave some light in the area the plant sits as it's near a filtered, south facing window. I guess I need to find out if it's suppose to be a tall one or a small one or even a rosette. very informative! this is awesome thank you!
    i have a question, so you mentioned the proper watering for the pups- what about while I'm still just waiting for the roots (after callousing)? will i not water until there are roots or do i moisten the soil a bit?

    • @LushGardener
      @LushGardener  3 года назад +8

      No don’t water the soil it has to be dry ....the roots are produced with the water or moisture from inside the leaf that’s why place the leaf away from direct sun otherwise it will dehydrate the mother leaf .....by adding moisture to the soil there is a chance the leaf might turn transparent and yellow

      85F should be good most of them can tolerate 1-2 degrees more or less …..if you can provide them with direct morning sunlight will be great …..but partial shade or bright indirect light would also work 😊…..but if you’re planning to put them out for direct sunlight ensure it’s a gradual introduction to sun to ensure they are acclimated
      P.s For pups I would recommend indirect bright light only

    A good and informative video once again. I wanted to know when is the right time to separate the mother leaf from the pups? Does it happen automatically? I tried to separate one of my pups and it ended in a failure.

    • @LushGardener
      @LushGardener  2 года назад +3

      yes sir if the leaf is drying naturally over time it will automatically detach or if it does a slight touch will detach it never put force then it will damage the pup if u feel the dried mother leaf is very stiff and unable to come off easily just let it stay for some more time ….
      but if the mother leaf is rotting then u will have to separate it asap

    Hello, nice channel. I both liked and am a subscriber. Your videos are most informative. I would like to ask about jade and echeveria. Additionally, I have a Graptopetalum (Ghost plant) that is VERY prolific using the leaf method. I have close to 100% success rate! The echeveria and jade are a bit stubborn, however, and I have used the same method. I guess I just need to be patient and wait a while longer. I also used rooting hormone on all of them. We're only about 2 weeks into this and nothing from either the jade or echeveria. I see what may be the beginning of a root bud from one of the jade leaves. What do you think? Wait a while longer? Again, great video.

      @LushGardener  3 года назад +1

      hello Dale nice to hear about your propagations success with graptopelaum …that they are doing well yea graptopetalum and graptoveria are very quick …. talking about jade yes they are slightly slow as u said you’re two weeks in it’s too early for
      them…. mine took around a month and half for the jade cutting and leaf to show growth so have to wait I can totally understand the excitement haha … regarding Echeveria again depending on the varieties plus as we are entering the winter’s Echeveria tends to go dormant however nothing to worry about propagation it will still work but yes the wait will be much longer compared to propagating them in summer …. now all you have to do is wait 😊
      will eagerly wait to hear from you once you see new signs of growth wishing you all the luck 🍀

      watering - best and effective method is bottom watering I have a video on it.Water when u see the upper layer of soil is starting to dry out don’t let the leaves sit in dry soil for too long.
      Don’t worry it’s absolutely fine some leaves don’t make it mostly either they rot or dry out even before they root (naturally)

      @@LushGardener I originally misted where it calloused and the surrounding soil (I did get a lot of the leaves wet when trying to do this) but today I lifted each leaf and wet the soil under them instead. They don't have roots or anything yet so from now on I'll refrain from watering until roots start to grow. If the temperature in my house is 65°F (probably a little colder near the window where I have the leaves) is that too cold for them? Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! I'm hopeful you can turn my black thumb green!!😂👍🌵

      @@ShannonQueen50 I think the temperature should be fine.....cause the place were I live doesn’t get that cold so not quite sure ....oh yea that could be a possibility why they rotted....it’s ok there is always a next time just wait till they root and also once laid on soil don’t touch them or move them usually roots appear within 1 -2 weeks depending on the varieties....m sure you will do well from now on ...all the best
      Tip - try to propagate succulents that are in growing period during winters like
      Sedeveria,crassula,graptoveria,sedum,graptosedum.
      Also please don’t get disheartened if some leaves might rot even after trying you’re best at times it’s just not in our control they just rot naturally.
      I have had some leaves that didn’t rot even after the pup grew large,whereas some rotted while the pups we’re still very tiny even after taking such good care so at times they just wanna rot 😂 can’t do much.

    If my leaf produced a baby and the mother leaf fell off, but baby has no roots. Do I keep watering? Or not water until it has roots?
