@@gailfriend8164 from the experience that I've had when propping, depending on humidity levels of course, for ex I live in the US in Arizona and our weather is beyond dry. We have less than 15% humidity most of the year so it's challenging to keep props with enough moisture rather than having too much. The way you can tell is, since u have had some rot, u know it's too much moisture. So usually when they are little still, a couple spritzes in the morning every day is enough and as they get bigger you may need to do deeper watering. But to start, spritz then, don't water. That's true for most of the US besides Arizona or Nevada really. The goal is not to keep them wet but rather with the minimum amount of moisture without letting the new roots get too dry and dry off. Feel the soil and if there's dampness on ur finger tips, don't water. And don't water before you see a few roots! That's the biggest thing. Cuz then they will just rot on the soil without being able to root. I don't have as much experience as this amazing guy does but I hope it helps!! Good luck!
Yes!!! I've found so many that only say, lay on the soil, and done. No explanation about roots or babies, or what's a good one and what are the bad ones

My boys are enjoying watching some of my other plants so we are going to give this a try. Your video is so informative and I am so glad I came across this. Happy Planting yall!
SO one question, I cut a stem from one of my plants and it already has a few small roots, do I need to let it callus? or should I lay it on the mud now?

@Jamey Craig the main thing that kills succulants is too much water. Peopel who kill succs tend to water them like normal plants and that kills them. For years, I have been a succulent serial killer. I was determined to have, grow, and love succulents....and.....THEY DIED! All of them. At my hands. Or thumbs...sob! So, so saaad. This year, with all the time I have had on my hands (or thumbs,) (thanks covid,) I tried again. My mom had a few stragglers (Walmart specials) fighting for life in her kitchen so I took a few leaf cuttings and lay them out on soil after they healed (two months ago.) I've been thinking I am doing something wrong, not spraying enough water each morning or giving them enough light (Alberta, Canada yay!) because there has been no sign of life. Am I a baby killer now? Crying! Anyway, I thought I would look for inspiration, found your video, and want to thank you because I feel better. And lo and behold, I just looked at some of my favorite cuttings and I have growth starting! Little roots mostly, but OMG! I won't breathe on them, or look them straight in the eye, just in case they feel threatened and die on the spot. And a stump I saved after taking all of the leaves off (not enough light so very leggy,) has four babies growing!! Just a little more patience, and I'll have so many little baby succulents running around! Um...ok that's weird, eh? Many thanks again for your helpful video

Hi Thang, thank you SO much for this awesome and informative video! After watching three times, I do have a remaining question - when I remove the baby from the leaf cutting, do I need to wait until it heals like with the rosette beheading, or can I put straight in to the soil? You show all the little rooted babies in the pot, but did not specify whether you put them straight there or let them sit first. I accidentally removed it, it also had a very long stem. TBH I found the leaf with roots and a pup amongst the moss in the pot of my HUGE Ghost succulent. It has two babies already and this video inspired me to stem cut one off and take leaves off all my succulents to propagate. Thanks again!!

Hands down the best tutorial. So basically you can go to Home Depot, break leaves off and make your own plants! 😂🤣😂🤣😂 not that I suggest anyone doing this!
I was at HomeDepot and picked up several that I had dropped onto the floor. Even asked if they minded that I take them and they said go ahead. I have many babies!!
I love how you take your time explaining things and refraze it in different ways If I didn't understand the first time I understand it again later. This is a very thorough video so I appreciate it.
Very helpful! I just propagated some of my succulents before I saw your video, i decide let them dry a few days more. By the way, how often should I water those leaves during the propagating process? Can I mist them every day if I put them outside?
in the summer during the hot heat, every day before afternoon hits, make sure the soil is moist. During the colder periods if you have it inside 2-3 days. Don't just mist it, make sure the soil itself is watered. The babies require a lot more water then the adult plants
@@ATLTRAN I believe so, just let the cutting area callous over by leaving it out for a few days (no soil or water, in a shaded area), then you can put in soil and water, it should form roots
My granddaughter and I liked this video. Can you show a video of how to set up the propagated tray before the leaves. Can you use regular potting soil.
Got to the end of the video and realized you are a fellow Canadian! 🇨🇦 I spend half the year in Portugal Azores and everyone grows succulents here. Now I am growing some of my own and I am obsessed!🤣 Thank you for a great video!
Thank you very much. I've learned do much info. I've just started planting. Just bought mini cactus seeds...I started by propagating cactus firesticks from cuttings and they're really doing good. I have many different types of cactus plants which I've never propagated from, but will now since watching your channel. Again thanks, stay safe and healthy... David
Fantastic walk-through of all the steps for propagation. You see so many contradictory methods out there, and I really appreciate how you cover all options. Very thorough, and I found this video quite helpful and educational.
South Africa ..thank you very straight forward ..I gave beheaded one got 3, babies now and tried the leaves with bottle of water ..roots within a week ..now on soil hopefully will grow
I'm excited to learn leaving the stem should produce leaves. I just did this with a var jade. I'm hoping it will grow leaves on the lower stem I left, cuz it didn't even try to do that when it was in soil with the longer jade leaves on top.

I have wondered for years how to propagate succulents, what was I doing wrong?? Your Video showed me I just needed more patience and time. And to know what to look for, plus why I am supposed to do various steps. It makes sense to me now. Thank you
Hands down the best tutorial. So basically you can go to Home Depot, break leaves off and make your own plants! 😂🤣😂🤣😂 not that I suggest anyone doing this!
Makeup Mobster that’s what I did! Lol
Makeup Mobster 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was at HomeDepot and picked up several that I had dropped onto the floor. Even asked if they minded that I take them and they said go ahead. I have many babies!!
As someone who works for Home Depot, I do this lmao
Omg I thought I was the only one! 😅
EveryThang thank you!
This video is awesome!! Can the baby pups from the beheaded stem be removed to create more succulents??
@@ATLTRAN I believe so, just let the cutting area callous over by leaving it out for a few days (no soil or water, in a shaded area), then you can put in soil and water, it should form roots
Oh boy i feel like a new parent
Thanks ! Great video getting super into succulents after the purchase of my first house !
Please make a video on propagating zebra plant
Just take the lil pups , it's the only way.
My granddaughter and I liked this video. Can you show a video of how to set up the propagated tray before the leaves. Can you use regular potting soil.
Beheaded one of my succulents and the original plant died :(
The beheaded part is thriving though.
That's sad
Super helpful video. I would like specific information regarding the soil with which to propagate, please.
Me, too!

Got to the end of the video and realized you are a fellow Canadian! 🇨🇦 I spend half the year in Portugal Azores and everyone grows succulents here. Now I am growing some of my own and I am obsessed!🤣 Thank you for a great video!
This is so cute thank you
Thanks =)

Great video!
Thanks!
Fantastic walk-through of all the steps for propagation. You see so many contradictory methods out there, and I really appreciate how you cover all options. Very thorough, and I found this video quite helpful and educational.
I had no idea succulents were so forgiving. I have several that have totally overgrown so I will try your tips. Thank you.
Best guide for propagation I have seen. Thank you very much.
Wow what a comprehensive video. You have so much experience. Thank you

South Africa ..thank you very straight forward ..I gave beheaded one got 3, babies now and tried the leaves with bottle of water ..roots within a week ..now on soil hopefully will grow
Very informative. Just started my little succulent garden and I'm enjoying every moment
I'm excited to learn leaving the stem should produce leaves. I just did this with a var jade. I'm hoping it will grow leaves on the lower stem I left, cuz it didn't even try to do that when it was in soil with the longer jade leaves on top.
You are very knowledgeable regarding succulents. Very well explained tutorial. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
